OKC remains the only CD I’ve ever returned. My gf knew I loved ParanoidAndroid, which was in the UK charts, and bought me the CD. I just couldn’t get into it and returned it. Four or five years later it was one of my favourite albums. I guess they were so progressive they needed to wait for me!
A good friend of mine went to go see Radiohead in Washington DC, and I refuse to go with her because I didn’t feel like seeing Alanis Morissette. My friend came back from the concert and said that I wouldn’t even believe the music Radiohead was playing. She says it was undescribable and different than anything she had ever heard before. Basically, they were still working out the songs live and playing most of OK computer songs that no one had heard. Of course, a year later, the album comes out and became the soundtrack of my 20s But I’ve seen Radiohead live so that’s cool
I would love to see something like this for the other great record of 1997, Spiritualized's "Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating in Space." These two records were played neck and neck at the record store I worked in. Both are sonic and exploratory masterpieces.
Best show ever for me and my friend Jess was front row center Running From Demons tour in Houston with Spiritualized opening for Radiohead with both bands touring off said masterpiece records 🙌🏼
Lovely record. I thought Nigel did a great job on McCartney’s Chaos and Creation. Nigel’s bass-forward mixes worked well with the master musician’s talents. Wish they had carried on… sure glad he and Radiohead carried on.
Quite surprised to see such off the shelf gear was used to record it. The album itself sounds very good and is quite hi-fi actually, That is likely due to it being mixed on the Air Neve which is world renowned for its sound quality.
7:10 That is so funny that JG used a Fender Red Knob for his distortion tones. This is probably the least coveted amp in the 2020s. Josh Scott (JHS) would love this.
Too bad most of their later albums feel more assembled than actually played. They released In Rainbows (great album), but then at the time of the release went and played it live "in the basement"... which got me thinking, why the hell did these crazy talented musicians not just PLAY their album and release that... because they were good enough to really pull it off! The sound just breathed in that space. They did the same with King Of Limbs... they're most "assembled" album to date.
The majority of this video seems to be lifted straight from the Audio Media International article “Deep Cuts: The Making of OK Computer”, some parts almost verbatim.
I did read this article and got a lot of quotes and information. I've credited it in the description. I didn't realise it was so close in parts. Thank you for pointing it out, I'll make sure to double check back to my sources in future before publishing.
I keep hearing from fans that Thom did most of his vocals in one take on Ok Computer, but I've read him say otherwise in interviews. Who knows? Really, who cares? It's all mythology at this point. I do think this video could've included other, more interesting details. Such as the story behind how Nigel completely tricked out the drums on airbag, or the doubled vocal used on climbing up the walls which was recorded through Thom's acoustic-electric guitar pickups, or the various stranger things they did like using a very, very strangely distorted vocal of Thom singing through a broken analog telephone, then heavily filtered and drenched in reverb as background vocals on karma police etc
A video like this for every Radiohead album would be amazing. I could die a happy man.
I second this
I second this

I could listen to Paranoid Android on repeat for a year straight and never tire of it.
I'm sorry. ❤
"It's not about getting the most hi-fi sounding thing" - Nigel Godrich
I love how Johnny still swears by that Eighty-Five amp. Proves you don't need "pro gear" to be the best.
This album was/is so important to me and my musical tastes.
This album and Axis Bold As Love are perfect albums imo.
A band recording together it's just the glory, great producer too ❤
Such an epic band...

Great video about a great album
Many thanks!

Great detailed video. Nice work!
Thank you!
For me personally this could be the most important album of the nineties. Perfect from the first note to the last. 🧡🧡🧡
I think it’s the best, but Nevermind is more important. My take anyway.

would love to see a Kid A or in rainbows video!!! great video, absolutely amazing!

I was surprised at that one!
He uses it as a pedal platform. He would use a Marshall shred master or other pedals for the distortion.

Tips from nigel godrich: begin by recording the best band in the world. But yeh im joking mostly i think hes also right
nah it was the rode classic mk1 not the nt1 lol
You gotta be kidding with the commercials
please do necrophagist
I'm hoping he's a Zappa fan. I'd LOVE a Apostrophe or Over Nite Sensation video.. you think he takes requests?
Way too many commercials
Adblock.

Another crappy band that lives on bad taste
You think Radiohead is bad? Why?
You don't know shit.
