The music of a gentler time in humanity. Surreal... It's like a friggin' dream sequence listening to this song. There are so many beautiful pieces out there, but some just have something special flitting about in them. THIS is one of those songs.
Wow, im 65 and considered myself very knowledgeable on music. Tonight March 27 2024 is the first time I've ever heard this. Mind-blowing. Ive literally collected thousands of albums, been to hundreds of concerts, played un a dozen bands. How is it possible i missed this beautiful song? I heard it on Mindhunter show. I thought it was the Climax Blues Band so i looked it up. The music from the 60s 70s 80s will never be repeated. I think that's why the world is so messed up today. 75% of today's music has no soul or love involved in it. Peter Green was a genius.
It's also the vibration / frequency of the music produced in the 60s, 70s, 80s - I grew up listening to this type of music - before the frequency of music was hijacked and corrupted - by greed and nefarious intentions.
Close my eyes and TRY to forget my daily grind, my overwhelming responsibilities, my inner demons and my lifes choices........Im sailing in the South Pacific on a majestic catamaran with a calm sea and beautiful sunset. Thats where this masterpiece takes me, if only for a moment.
@No Brakes, Very well said, I can totally relate!! I never tire of listening to this, I sometimes play it to relax and fall asleep, as I have sleep issues. I play it on a one hour loop vidio. It takes me away, at least for awhile, and I love the ocean. Take Care, Blessings🙏🌟💞🌏🎶🎶💯
Music genius known as Peter Green! I first heard this beautiful instrumental when I was 13 years old in 1969, still listen to it now in 2023. His music will live on forever. ♥ RIP
Hello there is nothing wrong with showing those emotions, and I believe it further enhances the love you have for your husband .families are eternal you will see him again. i suffered the loss of my beautiful wife Helen, 18 months ago miss her everyday but I know one we will be. Reunited one day, wishing you well always as you go through this mortal. Journey sending love to you❤❤.
I feel so ashamed, I have loved this song ever since I first heard it in 1968, when I was 8 years old. Later when I started earning money, I tried to buy it. Probably because I thought it was the Moody Blues, I couldn't find it. I have been a Mac fan since the late 70's but my brain never connected the dots. My apologies to Fleetwood Mac and especially to Peter Green RIP.
This wonderful melody brings back memories of growing up in the Cornish fishing village of St Agnes in the early 1970s, then leaving school to join the Merchant Navy and sailing the oceans with nothing but the ocean surrounding us, not another ship in sight with only the seagulls following in our wake. A young full of life's expectancies 16yr old lad. Now as a 66yr old living in Thailand Albatross still transports me back in time to those wonderful carefree times.
I used to be a bus driver and when I got stressed out by customers, idiot drivers and awful traffic I'd play this song in my head and it would get me through my shift. RIP Peter. Youre sadly missed. ❤
I was so lucky to see them play this ethereal masterpiece. It opened a door to a new place in music. Then they would follow with Rattlesnake Shake! What a great band! RIP.
Saw them play live at The Warehouse in New Orleans on a double bill with The Grateful Dead the night the Dead got "busted down on Bourbon Street," tripping my ass off. Magical night.
Such a magical melody. It makes me so mystically moody just like the first time I ever heard it. After travelling all night on foot I crossed an unmarked border into Holland and fell asleep in the woods. In the morning I woke up in a strange new country with a feeling so untethered and strange - yet so fully transcendent...like careening across an ocean on a wind drift. Then I walked into a nearby cafe and I heard this song on the juke box.
Not sure if you know this but this masterpiece was influenced by a Chuck Berry classic called "Deep Feelings," released in 1957. Take a listen sometime.
When my sister was terminally ill she requested this song at her funeral. Made most of us weep. When I listen to it now it takes me right back to those surreal days but also remember the happy times we shared
THIS HEADY DELIRIUM TAKES ME BACK IN A TREASURED TIME CAPSULE .. PETER GREENE .. GUITARIST EXTRAORDINAIRE .. A TIME OF THE SWEET INNOCENCE OF BEING HUNGARY AND OH SO NAIVE AT HEART .. ALWAYS MUSIC IS THE FOOD OF LOVE .. B .. XOXO ❤
It's been one of my all time favorite songs ever since someone gave me the LP in the 60s. And Fleetwood Mac then became one of my all time favorite groups, to this day...before, during, and after Nicks and Buckingham, including everyone's solo and regrouping performances.
My Big Brother was doing the same thing you were in Germany while in the Army in 1972 according to him telling me many years ago. I will be 60 years old next year. He saw many good Concerts over in Europe too !
Still here, winging the airwaves, her name is wisdom, just come back from doing nothing but soaring the thermals over the southern oceans , then flew north and laid an egg on an island here as in the past, extraordinary , this song reminded why you have to remember where you are going even if at times doesn't always make sense
I remember in 1976 I was 6-7 sat on the floor playing with mums records oops 😬 anyway I put this on an i was mesmerized..even today when I need to be somewhere else I put this on, aaaah pure bliss. I’m remembering me on floor an mum doing the ironing, good times.. b safe everyone 😊
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams
1st time (68 or 69)I heard this & Oh Well made me stop & listen..... back in the late 60's this was good stuff & now here in 2020 it's still good stuff......
Oh... So beautiful. I heard it a lot during childhood, and I found it very soothing. And now the piece has new meaning to me. A couple of days ago, I was sitting next to someone who's very special to me. We are in the process of getting to know one another, having a good time, laugh and cry together, having wonderful conversations, flirting, warning each other about our own flaws... And then the band started to play Albatross. Just as I thought, oh I would like to hold him, he lay his head on my shoulder, then we held each other tight in a most tender way, just... BEING. The world stood still for a couple of minutes as if our artist souls were being carried by the wind that carried the Albatross...😍
Heard this in the late 60's, it is my favourite piece of music - my mother's and my late partner's too; he played it at my mother's funeral, and it was played at his. It resonates somewhere deep in my soul, I love playing it on a continuous loop. Magical.
Music to guide their beloved spirits onward. A beautiful selection you all had made. This was played at my brother's funeral, along with Eva Cassidy's version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", and "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" by the Hollies.
Once, long ago, 40-50 years ago, in the American US Southwest, hundreds or maybe thousands of miles from the oceans (Gulf of Mexico, Gulf of California/Sea of Cortez), I witnessed an albatross fly over from east to west.
When i heard this song I was in London Walthamstow East London iam 81years old Love this Song i was about 30years Old when I first heard this Absolutely fantastic ❤❤❤
Turn down the lights , light a few candles , glass of wine and let your mind and the music take away your stress . Chill out in the best way. Instrumental music best way to relax.
David: Love your Analogy. Sort of “slow down the world i want to get off”…….... I love this piece of classic stillness. In my humble opinion, Peter did this kind of “Reflection / Stillness” as i like to call it, in Oh Well Part 2. Albatross included, Both mesmerizing, very still, and they are both able to transport the listener to their very own and “special place”. Very rare to feel that in music, no matter what genre you like….A true test of the musicians skill in communicating their inner soul……to us. A special gift indeed 🌅…Not often found.
my father asked me about who was this song waback in late 1968 = i remember that first every time i hear this song ! and i told who = fleetwood mac - albatross .
RIP Peter !
A genius. I saw him at the Long Beach Blues Festival late last century. He was eating dinner alone at the Hyatt. I approached his table and told him he was the most amazing guitarist I had ever heard. He didn’t say anything, just stared at me.
I can recalling hearing this tune for the first time back in 1968 when I was a young, impressionable guitarist who thought Peter Greene was one of the best guitarists of the current era. Albatross got scant airplay on the US charts however. Why, I haven't a clue, because it is a beautiful piece of music. Mastery in simplicity -- a very difficult goal to achieve.
Michael McBroom it was no different in Australia. Hardly ever heard it back in the 60’s & 70’s. Shame as I agree with you. It’s a beautiful piece of music.
@@shedmanx3640 Nah, don't agree Sheddy. Albatross got heaps of air play on the radio in '69 and the early 70s here. They even use to play the clip on tv of the Albatross flying over the ocean in glorious Black and White. I was a kid living near the beach in the swinging 60s.....I wish my parents never moved in the 70s!! This was the real Fleetwood Mac, sadly after Oh Well, they disappeared from our airwaves until the horrible Rumours era.😮💨
It is beautiful but 16 minutes was too long for airplay back then. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was 17 minutes, but they had to release a single that was 2:52 for airplay.

I walked onto a beach in cairns and was awash with shade but a few feet away the water was immersed in full sunlight i had thisbplaying through my headphones! It was a surreal experience as i never had been to a beach with those conditions! ❤❤❤❤
Although I lived through the 1960s both here in America (East Coast) and England I had never heard this song until recently (2023). I think I've listened to it around 50 times or so. It takes me back to my high school days and my 2 friends, both dead now. I don't know why given that I'd not heard it back then. It brings great peace to me when listening to it. Only good memories surface. Thank you Fleetwood Mac wherever you are.
very clever how the cymbal sounds like the waves of the ocean lapping against the shore. I will never tire of this instrumental by Fleetwood Mac I see me in my 90's blasting this out on a Summers day thanks for posting it on repeat
First heard this as a lad aged 14. Still my all time favourite piece of music. Totally agree with with previous comments. I t takes you places and calms the soul. It will take me to my final testing place as I am laid to rest. The last thing I want to hear in this life anyway. Peace to all.

Beautiful song. Inspired by the king of rock and roll, Chuck Berry's - Deep Feelings.
I was 11, myself and my 2 brothers got it for Christmas with a dansette record player.
I first heard this in 1970 when I was 18. It has stood the test of time better than many pieces from that time.
Played this at my husband's funeral showing photos of our life together still cry lisning to it
I hope this makes you cry tears of joy remembering good times! I think this is a great song for happy remembrance ❤

Heaven arrays beautiful sound whoever came up with this tune should be knighted forever..takes me back to my childhood days in slow motion with tearful moments. Majestic ❤
Got played a lot in Beijing on EZ FM in the 90s. Beautiful piece!
I realize the Peter Green wrote this song, but it took the group to bring it to life.
One of the best peices of music
Yeah best instrumental piece of my childhood Peace to you Ruud
Glad I lived through the best era for music, awesome
very clever how the cymbal sounds like the waves of the ocean lapping against the shore.
I will never tire of this instrumental by Fleetwood Mac
I see me in my 90's blasting this out on a Summers day
thanks for posting it on repeat

The beat is haunting ❤❤❤❤❤🎵🎶
Love this. My favorite song to play on my E guitar. Close your eyes and sail through the air over the sea
.
This music will do...❤❤
First heard this as a lad aged 14. Still my all time favourite piece of music. Totally agree with with previous comments. I t takes you places and calms the soul. It will take me to my final testing place as I am laid to rest. The last thing I want to hear in this life anyway. Peace to all.
