This is my top game from last year, the card system is so simple but so clever. I love how the cards that you play tempt you away from your plan sometimes, because each action gets more powerful. "I really need to get started on development, but now I can travel three spaces instead!" Love it.
Yeah, the "already filled in" space on the bookshelf, and the confusing over use of "x1" are the only things I'd change on the graphic design.
Like the background apple :)
Great review as always. I'd have to say that it's become one of my favourite games from last year also. The micro-turns really helps keep the momentum going and after teaching it to people in a number of different groups I'm now hoping to get it played without teaching and move in to drafting of the master cards.
Once again thanks Paul! Your videos are top notch. Keep up the great work!
Thanks. Playthrough video of this with the expansion coming this week!
dang it, would have loved if u did a how to play video, you are so godo at explaining rules. friend bought this for me yesterday and im getting it in a couple days, cant wait to play
Sounds like a winner to me. Thanks for the review Paul!
This is really helpful thanks - I am hoping someone at my gaming group will bring the game and now I am ready for them
This game has always been such a temptation, but I've yet to pluck it from the tree. Those that like it, really like it, but I've heard a couple of mixed reviews as well. Perhaps I need to find a café in which to play it first. Thanks for the great rundown.
Wow, I’ve had this one on my wish list for a while but having watched this review now I really want to get it. Sounds exactly like my kind of game.
Great review Paul, I bought this game for my birthday and although I am yet to play it.. I feel like I have a winner!!
Well done, Paul, as always. Really enjoy your review style.
When I first saw Newton, I thought how much it looked liked Clans of Caledonia from a graphics perspective. The rulebook is an exact match of the Clans rulebook, or so it seem. All the illustrations have the same feel. However, only now I realize they were both illustrated by Klemens Franz - so of course they look the same. :)
Great video. If you make a video explaining how to play a game. The odds of my buying it go up 50%. 🙂
I concur with this review! 😉
One of my top 3 from 2018... try it if you can
Great review, thanks. Tempted to buy it given current discount, but I don't like player solitaire games. Seems like the card purchase from market is the only competition.
Love the t-shirt
From BGT&CUK :)
I was put off by the blandness but I may have to try it sometime!
Joseph Flemming it’s funny, Euro blandness is a thing of beauty to me
I've got to say that it's mechanically so elegant that the blandness doesn't affect me either.
Paul is right. This game is really good.
What did you think of the solo mode?
My favourite game from last year easily - and I had a great year of games. Think your review didn’t mention how little interaction between players there is. If you like player interaction this is not the game for you, though that can be said for lots of euro’s. The other thing I’d query is when you said the book strategy is best. I think it’s the easiest, and most consistent way to win. In every game going books is almost always a good strategy. However, some of the other paths can be way better, as long as the bonus tiles line up correctly. Having played this game about 20 times now I’ve won all 5 ways, and it all depends on the opening set up of tiles. Love it!
For me it lacks a little too much in the player interaction department. I mean it's a good game, but your actions really have no consequences for the other players.
