As a kid, we stayed at a B&B in Cornwall and found this and Hero Quest in the cupboard on a rainy day. We ended up playing both of these games every night of the holiday and on the drive home stopped at several toy shops and games workshops to pick them up. Still got them at my dad's.
now THIS is the contet i've been waiting for!!! This is fantastic, there are so many 40k battle reports, but a live stream of a 1990 precursor to the grimdark on youtube is so very rare. Well done all
Think you'd love it if you just introduced the rule of no more than 50% of your alien blips on board 1. it is supposed to be a hoard-game, but I take your point about scalability. We sometimes state that you have to split your blips into four unequal piles before the game begins, with a minimum of five blips per board! thanks for posting!
Heroquest and Space Crusade launched at the same time as "Advanced Heroquest" and "Advanced Space Crusade", which were both GW games (no MB branding), the aim was the non "advanced" versions were easier to learn, so aimed at younger gamers and the advanced versions had more modular boards and more complex rules, aimed at then getting people into the main GW games as well.
WOW - give those classics some love. Picked up a copy in mid 2000s and played it a few times when we had a four player count, a bit dated (obviously) rules wise but good fund. Sold it about 5 years ago, when lots of the new kickstarters started arriving, so others could get some nostalgic fun.
Holy nostalgia ^^ and Happy Birthday Paul! :D ... Good old StarQuest (German version of 1990) never really caught on with us. Bought it during my first University year when we had a lot of time or so we thought :P I played it a few times and proudly painted the minis with smelly Revell modeling enamel that took a day to dry (acrylics were still a couple of years in the future :P) ^^ Really liked the Eldar but hated the chunky Space Marines ^^ HeroQuest was more ours and got a lot of selfmade scenarios and extras ... it is still in the collection :D Also we used the minis in many DSA (Das Schwarze Auge) RPG sessions throughout my student years ^^
Played it all the time as a young'un when it came out. Has a huge place in my gaming heart! Bought both of the expansions about 10 years ago but haven't broken them out. I'm afraid I'll be hugely disappointed! Thanks for this video
I got this for Christmas… it was my first “complex” board game (before this is was Monopoly, Cluedo etc). I remember trying to explain it to my Dad, whilst trying to understand it myself…. Took a while
I was looking forward to that stream... this reminds me a lot of my youth. I spent so much time one this one (only could get my hands on the Eldars expansion) and Battle Masters.. Also "painted" them but I would be horrified now... it's somewhere at my parents' I guess or sent to trash in one of the movings.. But this kind of make me want to find a copy and pimp it a lot (replace by the proper SM chapters miniatures, xenos and chaos miniature, make neoprene mats, acrylic tokens...).. This would be a really nice hobby but I already ave a lot to paint with the different boardgames and GW things xD

It won't be happening again, but I will be playing Blackstone Fortress at some point.
@@GamingRulesVideos Maybe i do need to start a retro games channel!

What a blast from the past, will have to check this stream out
Never played it but picked a copy up from a charity shop for £4 a few years back . Looks complete
Excellent and fun to watch by the way!

That's awesome

What's up with all of those old, cool games? Gaming Rules really is on fire these days. What's next, Space Hulk? ❤️
Space Hulk was really good.
@@GamingRulesVideos Yeah, it is. So, you gotta play it, too? 😍
@@sebastiang.5032 Maybe at some point. I think Rick has a copy of it.
I have played it once or twice I think. Or was there an advanced version of it? Funny seeing such an old game being played

I have this, plus the two expansions. Unfortunately my dreadnought minis are a little melted.
I always wanted this game, but it is long OOP and way too expensive on second-hand markets!!! Please do Space Hulk next!
Don't do this dirty series man. All these games are out of print and costs a bomb cry😢😂
I doubt this video would influence anyone to go and buy it. :)
I owned this game, unfortunately along with hero quest they disappeared a long time ago
