I like how Scott laughed at the entire idea of tabletop mode, but then suggested people play multiplayer on a Lite while player 1 is holding the console. WTF?

Funny thing is that you'd need two controllers because when you connect an external one to the switch lite it detects both the console and the controller as player one. So, you would need two controllers, and a way to put down the switch lite... You'd be in a very rough tabletop mode.
Switch lite main here, its just worse tabletop mode because you need 2 controllers still and a kickstand because it recognizes the first paired controller alongside the built in controls as player 1 for some reason (you can turn off the lite controls but its only until the next sleep mode and is weirdly deep in settings)

Scott’s opinion on table top mode is one of the rare times I disagree with Scott. Just going to School and being able to quickly play multiplayer with friends is really useful, especially when they don’t have a Switch
I brought my Switch to school and had a round of Mario Kart with my friends and the science teacher. We were all huddled around the tiny screen looking trying to look at the four way split screen. Good times.
I think Scott in general underestimates how much people play local multiplayer together in shared spaces like a school or wherever else. He rarely seems to play online multiplayer let alone local multiplayer.
we had a switch at my old rec job and we'd all play smash bros on itin tabletopmode during our lunch breaks and when the kids went to eat lunch. just a bunch of 18+ year old fresh outta high school kids playing smash and mario kart at work lol

4:00 This is a dumb argument. I'm playing in table-top mode because I'm playing multi-player in places where it otherwise wouldn't have been possible. This accessory was such a joy to have back in high school.
It's one thing to rough it and do what u gotta do or play when your literally out of the house but no one is gonna be like man I wanna play on a small screen instead of a big one and use a real controller

I'm a social worker and I regularly being my switch to work as sometimes kids find it easier to talk about problems while doing something fun, and them thrashing me at Mario kart while telling what's wrong with their life at that moment really helps. Because I work at a school I can't have a whole dock and TV set up so table top mode works really well.
Also the sideways USB-C port. Like… for me I got a stand that works for my switch so I can charge the thing in table top, but then the thick ass cable that I use for my external battery is in the way… I’m too lazy with buying a better cable, so I just use the cables that are included in with each switch pro controller

I don't like useing my switch in hand held as I have carple tunnle and the oled is quite heavy, being able to switch it to table top mode and then hold my joycons in the controller adapter works really well as it's more comfortable for me.

Actually, the Adjustable Charging Stand functions really well as a way to charge the Switch while you are playing in handheld mode because you can rest the switch on your belly and the charging cord goes out of the side so you don't damage the charging port.
I actually used the Adjustable Charging stand, but I used it to connect a usb-c to usb adapter, then plugged in my Gamecube adapter, so I can play Smash portably with a Gamecube controller.

Funnily enough, 8bitdo has an a nice solution for that called the Gbros adapter. Though I guess it doesn't have the convenience of the more adjustable stand, or the 3 extra GC ports.

I still use mine, makes it easier to bring my switch around without using the garbage kickstand
I use the Charging Grip and I really like it. You don’t need to loosen all your Joy-Cons and can pretty much turn a pair into a standalone controller. If you’re playing single player it probably doesn’t make sense unless you never play handheld, but for someone like me that plays a lot of local multiplayer games it’s great
I have two sets of joy-cons and it makes keeping them both charged much easier. And now I have one set for handheld mode, one set for TV mode.There's a lot less juggling involved this way.
Makes sense but personally if I have enough pairs I’d just get a Joy-Con charging dock to be neater
I got the charging grip in case there happened to be some way to play Nintendo Switch games with Joy-Con, but without a Switch. There is no way for that to happen, though. I'm just a strange but completely upright citizen.

I'm the rare big fan of the Joycon Grip. I absolutely hate the feeling of two separated joycons, and I find sticking to the Joycon button layout more comfortable than using a pro because I use a lite for almost all of my Switch gameplay and have way more past experience on the WiiU Gamepad and (3)DS button layouts than I have on any kind of traditional home console controller. My preferred way to play anytime I'm doing multiplayer, which works out because other people usually want to have the pro controller.
The ergonomics feel quite nice, but for some reason the little analogue sticks put my arm in severe pain playing stardew valley. It made me run out and drop the money on the pro controller lol

i feel the exact same way, i'm also kind of annoyed by the "just buy a more expensive controller" angle because like. i'm broke. my hands are pretty damn small. why should i go out of my way to buy something that expensive when i have a perfectly good way to play that came with the system? not to mention that the wired ones that are significantly cheaper work just fine if you can manage without gyro and vibration 😭

But I think it's like a few of the functions of the Joy-Con, where the pitch got made without Nintendo really believing it, and the second-order hype crashed hard when naive people finally realized truths such as, their Joy-Con don't combine into a DualSense
Same, I used the Joycon Grip for about a year before getting a Pro Controller. Helped me get used to the Pro easily too
in my experience tabletop mode is for
1. Using a controller when you dont have access to a dock/tv (most often when you're in public/not at home)
2. Multiplayer in public/not at home. When I was in high/middle school we would prop it up and pass controllers and play smash, rocket league etc. all the time

Hey, being intentionally homeless for about 5 years, I lived and died with table top mode. I got alot of use out of the charging stand. Also lunch breaks at the chicken slaughter plant playing fifa with the boys. Good times.
The charging stand, although expensive, is a great product I used many times both at home and during travel. Even on the OLED, the side charger is nice
It was great while I only had the switch lite and wanted to play something with the pro controller
They need to produce more stock and get it back in circulation
The OLED model can "stand" on top of the stand in the official switch bag, and that both gives some useful height and free up the charger port for a power bank
It’s interesting how the Switch’s accessories are mostly utility extras whereas the accessories for previous generations were mostly gameplay-related peripherals
I think the 8 directional "snapping" in Link's Awakening always struck me as an artistic choice, and to be honest, I think it looks good for that particular title.
I have to say, these stash videos are coming out like crazy and I am here for it, especially if it helps Scott not get too burnt out
From what I know, over here (Italy) table top mode is used by people while travelling by train, because in handheld mode the console is quite uncomfortable (too big, heavy, and the hands position is awful). So that accessory could even make sense for those people.
i feel that with the steam deck a lot of the time. fantastic handheld, but also really really needs a solution like the switch at times. playing a modern handheld isn't nearly as comfortable as it was
@@genderender yes. The commercial success of the switch has pushed other manufacturers to release the same kind of uncomfortable handhelds. Which is actually not a novelty, we had the Atari Lynx in the past which had the same problem and was a flop. Gaming history hasn’t taught console manufacturers a lot.
@@starpier i am yearning for something ds sized that can run modern games (either emulated or native) and there still isn’t. the best you get is switch sized. i’m hoping valve reuses the current deck chip for a smaller handheld in the future
@@genderender I went on a long train journey with my friend and I just propped my steam deck up on the table and had a controller in my lap. It was really comfortable, and it made it really easy for my friend to see the screen too. Fortunately the steam deck's charging port is on top, so I just used a regular tablet stand.
@@genderender tablet stands are cheap and the deck is overall as good or better at every switch "mode", but I agree that the deck could use a kickstand

I recall when they debuted the switch and showcased the different ways to play with the joy cons and how you can free hand each one like the Wii remotes and I scoffed at it. Little did I know its the most comfortable way for me to play
A lot of people realised that it's a lot better for your shoulders, you can hold one joycon in each hand and have your arms by your side. It's definitely a really interesting niche, there's a lot of accessibility stuff people have done with joycons.
I actually have the 8-bit-do game pad, I usually use it when emulating ds games.
8 bit do makes great stuff. I love my SN30 Pro; hands down it has the best dpad I’ve ever uesed

Does 8-bit do have a controller with a D-pad that feels clicky (think new 3ds d-pad clickyness) and isn't too elevated?
Not necessarily a switch controller as long as it's usable on pc.
@@emperormegaman3856 I would not consider 8bitdo controller dpads to be clicky. They are more tactile, like a more refined and responsive SNES dpad. I’d you want a soft click, I would look into the Nyxi Hyperion Pro.
The charging stand is my mvp Switch accessory. I use it as somewhere to charge the system in my bedroom, while the dock stays hooked up to the TV in the living room, and it's way better than the flimsy inbuilt stand when I want to watch RUclips in my bedroom. It's simple and sturdy, I highly recommend.
Not Switch related, but my wife and I still use my Wii U gamepad stand on a daily basis as a stans for our phones. I've gotten more use out of it than my Wii U itself. One of the best gaming accessories ever.
This video taught me that the adjustable charging stand existed. As someone who uses the switch in tabletop mode a lot, this has changed my life. Thank you.
I bought that 8-Bitdo controller specifically for Link's Awakening. It's still useful on lots of other games, but it was most useful there.
I think the table top switch charger is probably great for a lot of disabled players - I have a mate who plays switch on a bed tray and the fact it’s adjustable might make their day lmao
The Joy Con grip is actually useful for multiplayer games, I still use it for Mario Kart and other four player mode games! The charging stand is useful for frequent traveling, since you can put the Switch on a table and play with friends!
My totally baseless theory is, Nintendo had SO many unsold stock for the charging grips, they took half of them, ripped off the handles, added a little stand instead, reboxed it, and are selling it as a charging stand this August.
I'd been looking to buy them for at or below MSRP for the last 4 years and they sold out before I could buy them so either they didn't make many or distributed them pretty poorly
The joycon grip is great. Especially because it's a lot easier to fit it in a switch carrying case than a pro controller. Also im not trying to own two pro controllers so when I play two player games one of us uses the pro and the other uses the grip. The fact that it was free with the system when they didn't need to include it I believe makes it perfect.
i totally agree! not having to buy two pro controllers or extra joycons for local co-op in a single switch household is really useful.
The Charging Stand is actually pretty nice if you think about being in hospital as exmaple and laying in bed all the time or so, this way you can play in tabletop while charging it. As one example.

When the Switch came out, I didn't have access to a TV at the moment so I couldn't play while docked. So when my friend and I wanted to play Super Bomberman R, I set the Switch up on a milk crate so I could weave the charging cable through the holes and have the Switch charged while we were playing.
Pretty proud of my ingenuity, but playing on a screen that small with someone else gave me a headache so I never did it again... 😅
I remember seeing people use the BOTW guardian amiibo as a stand, it had articulated "arms" so it could hold the switch and you could still run the charging cable in. That amiibo became even harder to get hold of than the rest...
Seeing the Sonar pen mentioned brought me joy because Colors Live was the first time i got to do digital art. I’m very thankful for it lol

Tabletop mode is good that's it's recognised as a seperate mode. Tabel top mode is all about 2 player mode with split joy cons. This is a huge deal for people travelling or people who aren't allowed to use the TV where they are or even don't have a TV.
The charging stand makes sense if you have a Switch Lite, lives on my desk charged and ready without taking up loads of space
I use the adjustable charging stand a lot. Since I have multiple Switches in my life, I use the stand to place a switch on my desk when doing trades between Pokemon games. The other best use is for sitting on the couch and being able to plug in the charging cable on the side instead of the bottom. Love that stand.

I’m glad you talked about colors live!! I hella love that program. I’m in the same boat of having alternative options to draw but I still like using my switch for art whenever I wanna draw full color art without being tethered to my PC.
I will say, I was a little confused at first about how to wrap the pen but I learned how to wrap the sonar pen from a video from their official discord but I’m sure by now they have a guide somewhere publicly. I wish they provided a guide for it at launch though.
I really dig the app! I can see kids getting it and using the switch as their first drawing tablet. Just like how I used my 3ds as my first drawing tablet. :]

I genuinely have used the adjustable charging stand every day I've been at work for the last 5 years. Even if you're not charging at the moment it's still a decent stand you can just tuck into your Switch case. Never regretted that purchase for a second
I play in tabletop mode by far the most since I mostly play my Switch at work on the clock
The tabletop mode was actually really useful for group settings where you don’t have access to the tv. I remember back in high school my friends and I would sometimes set it up tabletop mode and play smash or Mario kart together and it worked great.

I almost exclusively use my switch in tabletop mode but never use the kickstand because it can just be propped up better on literally anything else and have no need for the charging stand because a regular charging cord works perfectly fine with minimal changes to the setup needed. Ultimately that is the biggest problem with these switch accessories, it is easier and better to just take the two seconds to think about how to set it up within your environment by using your environment to help you instead of paying stupid amounts of money for inconvenient accessories to solve your non-issues.

I bought two of those USB C docks since they're some of the best docks out there, period. SUPER small and compact, low strain on the device's connector, good for phones, and decent amount of viewing angles.
I know 8bitdo makes a portable controller with joysticks. But I think it would be perfect if they used 3DS style circle pads
I use the joy-con grip when I have someone come over to play, while I let the guest use the joystick. It's still great that it exists.
The joycon grip also acts as a pretty good stand for extra joycons

As a preorder bonus for Mario Maker 2, it came with a themed version based on the game.

I want to defend the kickstand if you were in school when the switch released and probably still now putting it tabletop mode in a school cafeteria and during study hall made it an essential feature I think it gets taken for granted by its adult audience because there's no where you'd stop and play games as a group where there isn't TV you could plug it into but as I kid wed have smash tournaments literally anywhere.
8-bitdo it's pretty good quality stuff, I bought one of their Nintendo 64 controller gut replacements, to turn a broken 25 year old Nintendo 64 controller, into a functioning Bluetooth Nintendo 64 controller.

I remember that when the Switch was first announced, there were a lot of youtube experts making videos of why it was going to fail. And one of their biggest grievances was "not being able to charge the controller without the console"

I love this controller so much, the portability of this controller is unrivalled.
I never played the original but honestly didn’t notice it as a big thing when playing. If my brain ever registered it, I just saw it as a stylistic choice.
Use my adjustable stand for when I travel. This was before portable screens became affordable. I still use it when I don't feel like hauling my screen around which is quite often.

SOOOO many people I’ve talked to have never heard of the charging grip and I own like 4. SHOCKED!! I think these should’ve been packaged with the switches.
My mom bought me the charging dock for Christmas one year, I never used it until I found it one day and just sat my switch lite on it. Does pretty good at keeping my switch lite charged whenever I’m not using it for months at a time.
I lost my charging stand in my own bedroom. I still cannot find it, even after i lifted up my bed mattress and everything. I’m incredibly bugged by this

He featured the Wii-like wheel which is similar, but the accessory that I was always the most interested in and I know would be useless to me is the grip that you can fit a single Joycon into to make it shaped like a regular controller. It have no doubt that it would feel better than just the Joycon on its side, but I also never ever use a Joycon on its side.
I loved the adjustable charging stand, I used it on flights all the time when I was traveling for work. I mainly used it for the angle adjustability

I bought the joycon charging grip because at the time I only had a switch lite and bought joycons and had no way of charging them. I bought the grey "plus" version and it works pretty well making it a larger controller

I like that Nintendo controllers have such good battery life that it didn't matter that they didn't include the charger with the system.

I got a third party botw licensed case when I got my switch. It's rock solid and has several switch card slots. Doesn't have a handle, but I have no fear of anything breaking if I drop it. Plus it looks cool. Recently, I got a matching sheika slate inspired switch card carrying case because I had more cards than my case slots could hold, but it fits in the case if I need to pack it up.

I’ve always loved using the Joy-Con grip cause I prefer having the four individual buttons instead of a d-pad and I love the cockiness of the buttons of the Joy-Con
