I like taking my Macbook and producing in weird places. But sometimes i wanna throw a vocal for vocal chops, or throw it in a granular synth. But i never have a mic. This thing could legit be used to record vocals. And I'm totally gonna use it a lot haha whatever you feel about apple in general, the speakers and the mic on this thing are legit witchcraft
Everybody else is doing render times and stuff. I needed to see a sustained, infinite load test (ie. Logic), and you delivered. Loved your comments about the headphone jack as well - nobody else has used stuff like the DT990s on it yet.
I told you it’s a beast bro and everything isn’t native yet some plugins are still using Rosetta once everything becomes native the m1 gone be crazy powerful

This is insane. Even aside from the craziness going on with the 30 tracks + effects, I'm noticing the sheer snappiness when you're moving around in Logic. Windows pop into view instantly, meters update instantaneously, etc.

I am not a music creator/ don't use Logic. I was just looking for a review of audio quality. I really appreciate your in depth audio review. I was buying an external amp for my Sennheiser HD 6xx, not having to buy it has made the price of this laptop that much cheaper. So yay!
That was great, just what I'm interested in (I'm using the Arturia soft synths a lot too), I'd love to see you try this again when Arturia goes M1 native, which they're promising to do. Great to see a music oriented stress test rather than just running Geekbench! If I was really going to stretch the friendship, I'd like to see a really processor intensive plug in (like Buchla Easel or the Piano, which uses a lot of CPU on my intel machine at least), with a feel for how much polyphony in each channel as well.
THIS is the test I needed to see. I too feel the 14” is perfect in order to make things portable and just hook up a larger monitor for studio work. Thank you for sharing.

If you go with the M1 Max chip & 32gig of RAM & 1TB SSD, there is only a 200USD difference in price between the 14" and 16". With that extra $200, you get a laarger screen, longer battery life, much more powerful recharging brick, much better thermal management (just from a larger body & perhaps from a heat pipe, etc), and you get a 'high power mode' that will help a bit with CPU/GPU intensive tasks. So, if you prefer the bigger screen, you will be getting more than your money's worth with that extra $200.

Quick note: I saw you was using only 8 processing threads (I'm guessing you must be able to use alot more) I have the 2017 32 gig Ram iMac Pro and I'm able to use 16 threads) I replicated the same plugins strips you was using and managed to get it down to 50% usage with everything turned on. Without it tunred on I was on about 75% exact same as you. Turn those threads up and use that power!!! Nice video btw
It has 2 efficiency cores and 8 performance cores so it will likely just run the 8 threads for apps like this. I think the efficiency cores handles user interface and stuff like that.

As far as compatibility, pretty much everything has been updated for m1. However, the new macs come with the newest os. And that's always an issue. We all always wait to update the os cause that takes time to update for all the audio companies. There's only a small handful of things that don't work on m1, the issues I've ran into are more of an os thing. They ran fine on big sur
Great video and fantastic product. I have a 2016 MBP and I’m really tempted, but I’m really concerned about compatibility with the plug-ins I use. That’s really a bummer considering that this laptop is far better than the one I own.
You can run logic in Rosetta 2, or alternatively run native and plugins that do not run native will be automatically given a Rosetta wrapper so that they run
@@kedbear79 it's not that simple. They will run on Rosetta, but the concern is HOW they will. I had problems in the past with plug-ins glitching and not working properly or crashing because a MacOS update occurred. So I don't know how an emulation will make them work.

I'm going for the 16 inch because if I like to pack my bag up with this laptop and an MPC LIVE 2 (and I know I will), that MPC is 16 inches anyway so why cut myself short on M1 MAX screen size if I'm carrying another item in my bag and it's that size anyway?

Will 16GB of RAM still suffice as a starting out music producer or minimum 32GB? I use a lot of omnisphere and kontakt plugins. 64GB of RAM is just overkill for me personally but also wondering cause RAM management is so different on the M1 Apple Silicon Macs compared to the old Intel models.
32gb is honestly fine, with the united system it’s honestly nearly comparable to being 64gb. 64gb would be more useful to those who need to disk stream large res video files.

See how many tracks it can handle before it crashes logic. Do you have Serum for or diva? Did you turn on all cores in logic?
Can you show whether it allows zero latency when voice monitoring with Autotune (pitch correction) enabled?

Did exactly the same test with my 2019 i9… 110 Channels with the same plugins.

Totally agree here with the 14", big benefit when smaller to travel. 16" way too big and insanelly expensive aswell.

all Arturia software runs natively on Apple silicon. it says so on their website
