It sounds super cheesy on the first sight... but having experienced heavy crazieness through a unexpected breakup after close to 9 years of relationship, I can just say thanks for sharing good thoughts. It may not seem like it, but time might heal, what feels like a wound that’s never gonna ;)
Unless you want 64GB, if you only making beats, you can stick to the M1 Pro, because the Pro and Max share the same 10 core CPU. The Max has more video codec, more GPU, which are good for video, 3D, animation, but not necessarily for audio stuff where CPU and memory count.
Furthermore, the Max consumes more battery even at idle and thus fan speeds can be higher and make it harder to keep cool, even though it’s going to be fine if you don’t push both CPU and GPU simultaneously anyway.
@@notsure1135 As Anandtech’s testing showed, the CPU cores are plenty saturated with 200GB/s. Only if you push a full memory bound workload on all of the CPU cores at once will they be able to benefit from more than 200GB/s and even then only something along the lines of 254GB/s. the additional bandwidth is meant for when several parts of the SoC access memory at once, like CPU, GPU and encode/decode blocks
@Sash Campbell Yes i've seen a test like that but not with Omnisphere or Kontakt. I'm trying to decide if it's worth the £400 upgrade for 16gb extra. Maybe it isn't.

Man I cannot wait to get mine in. The main reason I upgraded was for the buffer size to avoid latency as much as possible and smooth video editing. For anyone considering this macbook m1 design- if you don't plan on editing many layers of 8k footage, intense 3d rendering / design or gaming(this isn't a gaming laptop anyhow) then the Max version is unnecessary. The Pro version unbinned is enough for video editing, streaming, multitasking and of course audio production. I have two ordered but am sending back the maxed out version. Only upgrade i made was for 2TB SSD and 32 RAM. Cheers.
I do video for a living and the 14 inch base model is MUCH faster than my 2019 16 inch 8 core i9 and I have no problem editing 6K footage blackmagic footage now. So the base is good for most. Maybe upgrade the SSD tho
This is outrageous my friend. I'M PUMPED. For me using my 2017 well specced iMac I'm running into pops and clicks everyday and needing to adjust things. Not only that my storage solutions are really annoying me. So I'm totally excited for this M1 Max joint. Great video, thank you for this...just what I want to see!
64 samples and 1 millisecond of latency 🤤 amazing. You reassured me that getting one of these is a good decision. I was concerned Ableton wasn’t gonna run well. Still gonna keep my 2015 MacBook til all the plugins are compatible.... but this is great 👍
I’m glad you did this stress test. I don’t care how much ram and memory you get, that CPU will struggle under the right conditions. That’s the main thing you have to be mindful of and Logic has the same issue. Very informative video, straight to the point.
M1 MacBook Air $999 works perfect for me with multiple plugins on tons of tracks in Ableton. I would consider RAM/Unified memory one of the more important things to take into consideration for making beats as plugins are 'held' in the unified memory when they are being used on a track so in theory more RAM/unified memory = more plugins. CPU power and number of cores also are very important
hey bro im thinkin of buying a macbook but people are saying plugins like soundtoys and izoptope don’t work. do you have any info on this please ?? thank you
I use a gaming laptop to produce my music lmao I bought it with the intention of streaming games, then I started playing w music and fell in love. What's funny is I've been taking the processor and ram for granted 😂😂 great video, man. I have about the same experience with my Asus. Ive never put a project together that my laptop couldn't handle.
THANK you for this amazing video - we needed this! So ableton is now 100% compatible with M1 chips? You didn’t use synergy to make it work - just plug and play?
Just a pleasure listening to you. And most of all watching you. And one of the reasons is you smile lots, which makes me feel good in the mess we’re in. So you’ve earned a new subscriber.
Im so happy with the performance in these things. the last week of work has felt like an absolute breeze. and also...no computer fans anymore on my recordings lol
Mine will be here Thursday! M1 Max was a bit steep so i got the M1 Pro 10 Core but still super excited, I think it should be enough for my music workflow and simple video workflow.
Just got mine today. It is indeed insane. The audio and screen resolution are extremely impressive. I've owned two Macs prior to this and this is so far the best one. Let's see how it holds up in 2 years though. My 2014 Mac lasted for 6 years but my 2019 Mac quit after a year.

I’m still rocking my 2011 MacBook Pro. Lol I upgraded to an internal ssd a few years back which helped. But I’m gonna have to upgrade to either a M1 pro or Max
I just got basically the same computer except got it used and only has 32GB RAM it is a great computer EXCEPT for me being old that 14" screen doing Ableton is too small. So I'm trying to decide on if to get a 16 Macbook Pro or just get a external monitor. Other than that its all you say fast, never hear the fans, but it will get a little warm, sound for a laptop is excellent. I was going to get one of the new M3 Macbook Pros but the prices for those I would of had get a smaller configuration, buying a refurbished MBP M1 Max I got the full config I wanted for less. Really diggin your videos learning a lot thanks!
This is arguably the best MacBook Pro released by apple since its inception. Apple listened and the understood the assignment. I wasn't even going to upgrade because I had the 16" 2019 Intel i9 MacBook Pro, but seeing how my M1 Mac Mini and M1 iPad was running, I just felt like I had too, and I am glad I did.
The ram answer is actually an easy answer for music production. Your software libraries load into ram. Depending on the type of plugins you use, they can be insanely heavy on ram. For the type of music production I do, I have to run as much ram an ssd/hdd as possible. My Mac Pro has 128gbs of ram and could actually use more.
Mailed XNL for RC-20 few days ago... no reply. I'm sure they are working on it. Try Cassette from Waves Factory, cpu monster on my 2015 MacBook Pro, now I can use it on every track, I love it!!!!! (I got same Macbook as you except 16")
RC20 works in the new version. I have beta access and the problem was not related to the M1 Process, it was an issue with Monterey… was fixed a long time ago ( in the Monterey Beta ). Unfortunately a lot of companies still didn’t release a native Apple silicon version. As soon as you can use native only versions of the plug-ins the performance will be even better on it.
Hey, cool video! I just got my M1 Max MacBook Pro and I absolutely love it! I wanted to ask if you or anyone has experienced Ableton projects loading up quite slowly? After it opens up it runs perfectly so nothing that should be a concern, I was just wondering if the slow boot up is a thing with others too. I'm talking about projects running several VSTs (Keyscape, Addictive Drums, Serum, etc...) and stuff, so I guess it could be normal that it could sometimes take almost a minute to load up?
RC20 didn't work probably because you weren't logged in to the XLN Account? That happens to me if I'm not logged. I have RC20 and a Macbook Pro M1 from 2021 and it works :)
Laughing so hard at the 64ms buffer. My god. I barely got below 512 with my 2018 i9 MacBook Pro. Can't wait until the new one arrives....as for the fans - my i9 actually had a thermal shut down while I was *copying files* getting ready to backup everything. Jet engine sounds. I can't wait to get my hands on it. Also, your beats are great and it really helped watching the video to be able to enjoy the music you were making too.

Not sure if Ableton runs natively on M1.
