      Most Apple devices use soldered storage and memory, which is very difficult to upgrade. I do think that a lot of Apple laptops and desktops actually do allow you to upgrade storage pretty easily, but upgrading memory is still a pain.

    All of these are overpriced. "Gaming" doesnt mean jack sht anymore. Every machine worth having has been 8gb and 16gb standard since like 2007. You can get an old 16gb computer for $300. Or buy any computer and spend $70 on extra ram sticks. Or laptops since its the video topic can also commonly have 8gb to 16gb. Theres nothing special about any of these besides maybe a better graphics card and theyre pretty and going to lose %50 of their value in the first year. Dont get me wrong i love alienware and even apple in certain ways. But after spending thousands on music gear and audio interfaces most people cant drop $2300, to $1700 on a computer that isnt making them money yet and wont for a while. Youre still going to have to install the same annoying softwares and drivers for you devices on any machine.

    The M1 Max seems like overkill for music production considering it has the same 10 CPU cores as the the higher end M1 Pro. Sure, it offers a 64GB RAM option, but you'd be pretty hard pressed to bring 32GB to it's knees in the first place. M1 Pro with 10 Core CPU and 32BG RAM is more than enough for most experienced producers IMO.

    • @edwardx.winston5744
      @edwardx.winston5744 2 года назад +5

      I’m thinking the base 8-core M1 Pro CPU 14” MBP with just the 32GB RAM upgrade might be the best value. Ram for sampling libraries is the main reason a MBA (either one) won’t cut it.
      Also, no internal fan means after a long mixing session problems could arise with MBAs. Even if the MBP starts making fan noise, at least it’ll still run in a stable manner-at which point the user can choose to take a break or press on, fan noise be damned.
      The base 14” MBP with the extra 32GB RAM comes in at $2,209 with an educational discount, $2,389 if you bump storage to 1TB.
      I think that is the maximum flexibility/utility for the price that Apple offers to music producers that isn’t overkill. A base Mac Studio could be cheaper and more powerful, but then one gives up field recording portability.
      The extra GPU cores and video codec encoders/decoders are irrelevant to music producers, so the Max chip would seem to be overkill. If Apple offered a Studio with just a Pro chip, that might be very appealing for home studio applications.

    • @Siri_Duffa
      @Siri_Duffa 2 года назад +3

      @@edwardx.winston5744 Agreed. I hope they come out with an updated Mac Mini with the Pro chip. That would be a Godsend for a lot of producers who don't need the portability. Or, you could probably buy a Mac Mini M1 Pro (if it ever comes out) and a MBA (for field recording and maximum portability) for the same price as one of the higher end options. A desktop workstation/portable combo.That'd be pretty sweet too.

    • @edwardx.winston5744
      @edwardx.winston5744 2 года назад +1

      @@Siri_Duffa that was exactly another scenario I was contemplating: MBA for field work, and a M1 Pro-based desktop of some kind for the studio.

    I bought a MSI GSI Laptop for music production, but I doesn’t work. It’s internal controller software such as Dragon Center Crush with most DAW such as Cubase. Did you really try any DAW on the MSI Laptop by setting the buffer size under 512. Even just play one audio track without any plug-in, it keeps clipping. Its BIOS and mother board maybe not so compatible with real time audio. function🥲
    Secondly, this ASUS Model you recommended doesn’t got thunderbolt port. That’s means it can’t connect with those thunderbolt UAD devices…😪
    End up I bought a Mac book M1 pro with factory default setting (16G ram 1Tb SSD)
    It works perfectly and I can play some really CPU hunting VSTi with buffer 128 even lower😍

      They have always been at the forefront of what matters most to some people, and that’s stability due to a solid relationship between the hardware and software. My duo core MacBook Air from 2015 with no dedicated graphics card never stutters, freezes or crashes. That’s more than I can say for any of the windows PCs I’ve owned for gaming that had actual power. Using Windows is like flipping a coin every time you install a piece of software. For instance, the 11th Generation intel CPUs, were actually a step BACKWARDS compared to the 10th generation, in many regards. To simply say a cpu is I7, and therefore high end, without knowing the details of that component, really shouldn't be a recommended practice.

    Thank you for posting the purchase links, for every lat top model. Thinking about having a music studio for me as a hobby. I just have an empty room at home that i am using with a Karaoke app. I purchased an usb condenser that can can be plugged to my phone. I am willing to have good Quality equipment without spending thousands. As i mentioned this would be just for me as a hobby. I am not familiar when it comes to set ups for music. I am curious if you have a video in detail for those who want to start for their first time. I have the room. Not built specifically for singing but serves the purpose. I dont have noisy neighbors.. I would love to get info from your knowledge to have my studio. And learn about music programs. That helps with the singing part. I will be buying a book for vocal training and more. I have always loved to sing but havent practice enough to put an use to my hidden tallent. Would you help me?

    Is the M1 air worth it for music production, I have been looking at the 8gb ram model, even though I know that's the lowest ram you can get and still be able to use your daws

    • @lampexxl8599
      @lampexxl8599 2 года назад +1

      I don't know how complex your music production projects usually are but as a non Apple user and long term Windows user with more than 8 GB of RAM, I recommend you, get at least 16 GB of RAM everywhere no matter music production or something else. 8 GB are "ok" for office work but it's gonna get filled up dramatically as soon as you use many samples and instruments. Besides, it is unified memory meaning you'll have less available due to the GPU utilizing this memory too and it is not future proof at all. If you go with the 8 GB you're saving money in the wrong place. You also have to keep in mind, it is a non cooled laptop meaning long lasting excessive work loads will likely reduce its lifespan due to heat.

      Hey! I actually have the m1 air with Logic Pro X. I really enjoy the laptop and logic. Everything runs fast and responsive. No power or ram issues whatsoever. In fact the only difference between the air and the pro for specs is an extra gpu core with the first released m1 MacBooks.
      The problem I am having with my m1 MacBook and logic is a ton of compatibility issues. I can’t get any of my plug ins, midi controllers, drum machines, or synthesizers to work with it all of the time. A lot of these company’s haven’t made their products compatible with the new M1 architecture yet. So I can’t really use my equipment with this. So I am in the process of selling my MacBook to go over to a windows setup with either Ableton or pro tools because of compatibility.
      I just thought my experience with this could help you with your decision. Hope this helps!

    • @lampexxl8599
      @lampexxl8599 2 года назад +1

      @@Martin-vj7zx That's not a big deal whether it is unified memory or not. What's important to know though, is that your screens and what you're doing on them is taking up memory space at the same time. Meaning, if you have a lot of samples loaded up in your projects, samples instruments and separate screens running, you'll fill up those 8 GB quickly. However, I think the M1 uses shared memory, meaning it will utilize SSD space as well. But that is significantly slower. So if you want a seamless experience, go with 16 GB at least and personal recommendation, at least an M1 Pro CPU. Always remember you want to have a certain margin of performance to be future proof as software is getting more demanding.

      @@HOLLASOUNDS yes it handles the audio better but like i said before its still just latency. Latency on whatever is plugged into it and when it hits your ears. Thats it. Edit:
      I suggest finding a buffer size/sample rate that doesn’t kill you with latency that remedies your issue (if your recording set it the lowest you can) but sounds very much like a cpu or ram issue. You could also try opening up task manager and making sure your not maxing either out when it does have that issue.
