I went to Kyung Wha Chung's concert of Bruch concerto with San Francisco Symphony some 30 years ago in Davies Symphony Hall, and that was one of the most passionate violin performance I've ever seen, and best of all, I got her autograph after the concert!
In the mid-'80's my wife and I saw her do the Brahms VC with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra...one of the most intense, passionate, risk-taking musicians I've ever seen. It was thrilling. Thanks very much for posting this.
Can't watch it.. When my Mom died in 2005, this was what my Dad asked me to listen to in the kitchen with him. I was never close to him and found it hard to show my feelings. The first time he played it to me shortly after her death, I just broke down. This piece of music WAS my Mom's life.. hard to explain, but I heard the happiness, the sadness, and the illness that eventually took her away from me, It was all here in this piece of music. I was never 'into' classical music, although my Dad was, and he insisted this was the best artist to perform this piece. When he died in 2019, I had to listen to it again at his funeral. I can't explain how I felt when I heard the first part of it starting.. I absolutely love it, but thinking about it makes me want to cry.. I am intending to have it at my own funeral one day. It is a magical
@@kaymanuel7256 thank you for sharing your story. Coincidentally Kyung-wha Chung herself has a similar story. She played Bach 'Air on G' for her dying father, and the memory kept her from playing it again for decades. She finally took it up and played for public only in 1997 again. If you are interested, I have it on my channel too... and you can see how she let the music transcend beyond her personal memory.
There might be a one of the many clues as to why so many S. Korean, as well as Jews are gifted musicians. Both people are reared on hard work at learning-and-remembering. Korean script demands remembering many more characters, and randomly complicated at that than the latin alphabet thus training, developing one's brain from early childhood, one generation after another. There must be some rewards of leading a life full of challenges, as opposed to wanting/having an 'easy life'. As for Kyung Wha Chung, no superlative will do justice neither for her, and her playing alike. Thank you Kyung Wha Chung.
Korean writing is extremely simple and easy to learn. It’s easier than English. You’re probably thinking of Japanese/Chinese. With that said, Korean culture has a deep appreciation of the creative arts. The great King Sejong who also invented their alphabet was also keenly interested in music and the arts in general. The largest arts centre in Seoul bears his name.
Just watched the same work.but with Previn in 1974. I prefer the earlier one .cause she looked far more free than with her brother. ^^. I love her charisma
Does age matter...🤔 for me she is forever young....but her soul is at least 400 years old 😉😁 what a great performance and also the wonderful sound and colours of the orchestra...chills....in a good way 💪👍Thank you guys for posting and keep up the good work!
Big lack of clarity in some passages, but overall very romantic. I prefer her younger versions, much more virtuoso. Here the orchestra is half asleep as well
It is my humble opinion that no one performs Bruch better than Kyung Wha Chung.
Cap
Here we have one of this world’s most accomplished virtuosos. Thank you!

Two of the Chung Trio on stage, just wonderful. Their performance of Beethoven's Triple was awesome, just as this performance of this work is awesome.

expression to the point, " risk-taking musicians " I think that's why her play is thrilling and breath-taking
her artistic spirit is burnning forever
1 of my all time favorite CDs ever is one of hers.
such a wounderous performance.

Absolute Legend! Stunning performance...
You have to have lived through a lot of pain to know the depth of this beauty. Beyond words!
Just magnificent!!! So intense and emotionally powerful performance!
she started violin at age 4, performed Mendelsson VC at age 9, entered Julliard School as scholarship student at age 13,

Her performance was superb. Also, her brother conducted my favorite version of Scheherazade.

I think I know why she chose that dress. It goes with the passion she played this piece with.

Super!
