The easy way of answering is that it is all about money. Big music production companies, and their unwillingness to take risks. The uneasy way of answering is that they all look for "new" participants in this race, and if you are not new or in some other way not make many "likes" in social media, well, then your time is out. Even if you are a gifted violinist. We have to accept that also music is a marketplace.
There are plenty of amazing musicians who just don’t want the constantly travelling lifestyle involved with being famous. I personally know two Juilliard grads who got in with scholarships (one of them with full scholarship for undergrad and masters) who have settled in Vancouver and only ever perform locally.
I earlier in my life thought that Bruch´s violin consert was too "flattering" - luckily I have now grown up and accepted that I love this consert. I also love Simone Lamsmas playing in this consert. ❤
One of the most popular violin concertos. It was first played 1866 but has always since then been on the repertoire. I love Simone Lamsmas version and has by now at last found out what a wonderful piece of music it is,
Words fail in the face of such exquisite phrasing, delicacy poised with power, profoundly poetic rubato... Simone Lamsma is yet another Dutch musician of the highest order. And Bruch again reminds us that he is one of the most shamefully neglected composers: a sublime concerto worthy of the greatest.
I agree about your words about this music, but "shamefully neglected composer"? As I understand this violin consert is one the most loved violin conserts. Sorry to say I have myself just newly accepted that I love this music. Maybe it was Simone Lamsma that convinced me?
Thanks for posting. Seen Lamsma here in NY a few times, including playing with the NY Philharmonic (playing the Britten concerto). She has virtuosity to burn - deserves to be far better known. Brava!
Brava, Simone! Such a wonderful performance of Bruch!
So incredibly underrated violinist. Most beautiful Bruch I've heard. How does she not have more recognition?
Yes, listening to this I cmpletely agree!
