    Ah it's very pleasant when the solo violin sings so and is so unhurried at the start of the piece.

    This concert with Chad Hoopes is so incredibly intoxicating, that I have been listening to it every night before I retire. Such rich texture in his notes, the changes in tempo so pronounced in his rendition of this magnificent concerto that I’m speechless. Simply beautiful!

    An overly-familiar work such as this which can fall on jaded ears needs a performance such as this that brings a fresh interpretation and perspective, with an almost excessive expressivity that suits the Concerto perfectly. Hoopes has an elegant tone and style that reminds me of Isaac Stern or Aaron Rosand.

    • @ethanbailey2541

      I got this from Mr. Hoopes website: Hoopes plays the 1991 Samuel Zygmuntowicz, ex Isaac Stern violin.
      This may explain his tone! So nostalgic!

    not being a "classical" regular, I have to plead ignorance,, BUT,, the way he handles the instrument is as if it is part of him, and without sheet music?? What??? Fantastic.

    • @Bevsworld04
      @Bevsworld04 2 года назад +3

      That instrument has probably been with him for a while, so it pretty much as a part of him
      Also when you get to a certain stage as a soloist, sheet music isn't necessary in performance as you can remember it much easier than if you were part of an orchestra as the orchestral sections dont have as many distinct parts which helps you to remember what comes next

    • @Freakschwimmer
      @Freakschwimmer 2 года назад +6

      Ever since Liszt (1811-1886) kinda started it is normal and more or less expected that the soloist plays by heart :) And due to practising many, many hours each and every day - around 4-6h - (though some argue up to 40) one's instrument basically feels like part of one's body.

    The Violin Concerto No. 2 in E minor, Op. 64, for violin composed by Felix Mendelssohn, figures in the violin repertoire of German Romantic music of the 19th century as a work of the first importance. Behind Mendelssohn's radiant and happy-looking personality
    is a creator who is deeply demanding of himself. « A man of remarkable talent and a very cultured mind. He draws marvelously, plays the violin and the viola, reads Homer fluently in Greek and speaks four or five languages with ease » wrote Liszt about Mendelssohn, whose ease and multiple gifts were readily praised. Listening to this concerto overflowing with freshness and passion, it is difficult to imagine that so much effort went into its writing. From the first bars, it is a breath that carries us away as the soloist states his theme, doing abstraction of the traditional orchestral introduction. Mendelssohn thus takes his liberties with tradition, also going so far as to introduce the cadenza of the soloist from the middle of the first movement, whereas it was customary to put it at the end. A cadence written and not freely improvised by the performer, as if the composer wanted to avoid exuberance. And she does not interrupt the speech, the soloist continuing to play when the orchestra joins him in playing the initial theme of the concerto. To this first movement, which so well deserves its title of « Allegro molto appassionato », responds a dreamy « Andante » tinged with melancholy and with
    the allure of wordless romance leading to an frantic « Allegro molto vivace », in which the violin intoxicates us with its virtuosity. But
    a virtuosity all in lightness whose sparkling and almost fairy accents thus constitute one of the peaks of Mendelssohn's art, a « true jewel of the heart » as Joseph Joachim affectionately called him. *Lucien*
