@@CoralineJonesPinkPalace probably referring to the plaque build up. Calcium and cholesterol go to sites of inflammation to try and heal the area. Usually the root cause is chronic hyperinsulinemia. Unfortunately many don’t know what the root cause is so they never stop the progression of damage. Note: calcium is sometimes pulled from the bones and teeth for other areas of inflammation. So osteopenia and osteoporosis are also a result of the inflammation.
My cholesterol level at the time of my annual exam was 220, my doctor immediately put me on 10mg if lipitor should I stop taking it or find out the size of my LDL first.
My doctor asked what I did to reverse my Type 2 diabetes and why my blood work came back almost perfect. I told her I found Dr. Sten Ekburg and Dr Ken D Berry on the internet and stopped listening to her.
Thank you Engineer for sharing your great results and helping inspire others. That is so awesome. I am thrilled that you have seen such great results. Keep it up! 😄
I recently had labs/bloodwork done, because I was curious as to how two and a half years of IF/Keto/LC had affected my health. Back in 2018, I had lab results that showed high triglycerides, high LDL, all kinds of bad markers. I had stage 3 hypertension, was taking all kinds of drugs for HBP (none of which really worked), I was clearly suffering with metabolic syndrome (likely pre-diabetic), had developed numbness in my fingertips, and was 80 pounds heavier, etc. My health was declining rapidly, and all my doctor could do is offer more drugs. Fast-forward to a few months ago ... After two and half years of IF/Keto/LC, I had labs drawn. Needless to say, it was pretty shocking. My HDL was significantly higher, HDL/LDL ratios were perfect. BP went from 195/97 to 115/70. Triglycerides were low/normal. The funny thing: My doctor said something like, "You must be staying away from fat and eggs." To which I replied: "Actually, no. I eat more fat and eggs now than I've ever eaten in my entire life." Which prompted a whole discussion on low carb diets, weight loss, etc., and the fact that I hadn't been sick since late 2018. She still nodded and pretended like she knew everything I was telling her already (because they're trained to always "be right"), but I could clearly see that she had never seen a patient turn their health around so dramatically before, with nothing but diet. She tried to attribute it to the nebulous reason of "when you lose weight, you feel better"--which all medical doctors seem to do, as they fail to understand that obesity is just another symptom of the actual underlying problems, not the cause. In any event, I had a good chuckle.
Doctors are NOT interested in your good health....Where's the money in that? My ex-doctor had the same "I'm smarter than you) attitude and wanted to give me a paper bag full of prescription drugs. Started Keto in 2018, lost 50 lbs, everything has improved.....Last year, I had to explain everything in this video to my new doctor (Intern?.. I don't think Multi-Care has accredited -real doctors). Anyway, He took it all in, this year he did not say one word about my "High" Cholesterol or my "High" LDL....just looked at all the rest of the results and said...Wow! You're doing great for 72. BP 118/69, blah, blah, blah.....see you next year....
I have what my doctor considers high LDL at 195 and kept insisting I be put on statins. I did take statins for 3 months but took myself off as I don't believe 195 is that high. After watching this video where Dr. Ekberg talks about the calcium score test I requested my doctor order one for me. It was $350 deductible. It was worth every penny. I had ZERO calcium so my doctor said I don't need to be on statins. That CAC test relieved all my anxiety that I was going to croak of a heart attack or stroke and save years of being on statins for no good reason.
Thanks so much from a 70yo lady from Australia. I've been on the carnivore diet for 5 months and feeling great. Lost weight, more energy, skin less dry, very few aches or pains, very little arthritic pain, and yet my family worries that I'll die off a heart attic. I don't! My blood test is good. They bombard me with old studies about the usual high cholesterol myths. They simply don't congratulate me but instead want to bring me down and not because they care! Others, even strangers, comment on my appearance and health. You arm with the science to defend myself against their nonsense. This means a lot to me in defending my choices to live my healthiest life ❤
You've spent more time for people watching this on RUclips explaining this in detail than all of the combined doctor visits I've been to over the years. Thank you.
It’s fantastic when people just choose to do their own research and make their own choices to better their diet by inspiring videos like Dr. Sten Ekberg. Unfortunately doctors don’t adress diet at all and they work side-by-side with big pharma ti prescribe you pills to “fix” the problem. It’s so corrupt. All we really need to do is make the best choices for ourselves. Diet can cure most problems, and it’s free! And they know this. 🤣
Statins stole my 50's from me. Now in my 60's, I can do so much more, I can think straighter, hike longer, do more, and several "mystery illnesses" that were "because you're getting older" (doctor's and specialist's "diagnosis") seem to have gone away. Thank you Dr. Ekberg for spreading the word.
I had recent aneurysm right kidney discovered after dealing with alot of other issues from something I won't get into on here. I'm looking better into things like this only, 30 right now. My cholestrol has spiked,BP spoked, heart rate etc
I tried to explain to someone in 40's that they should come of statins.. sent them videos like this... But all I got was "I'm going to listen to my own doctor" 🙄🥺
I remember over 25 years ago, when a Doctor said my Cholesterol was high, and he wanted to put me on medication, I said no way, I just supplemented with raw garlic. Twenty five years later still no issues whatsoever. Amazing how they love getting everyone on Meds.
@@buckmurdock2500 That's the 1980s diet advice - "cholesterol is bad so stop eating cholesterol - limit eggs etc" Nobody thought to check if eating cholesterol made it appear in the blood, it was just assumed. And now we know it doesn't. Eating saturated fats (animal fats) is what causes cholesterol in the blood.
In February I was urinating like crazy. I was spilling glucose to the point my a1C was 11.2. Full bore Type II diabetes was the diagnosis. Was given Jardiance and Rybelsus freebie samples but after 6 weeks of that regimen I punted and agreed to go on Metformin, the classic go to drug for diabetes. I realized that food got me in this mess and food would get me out. Completely modified my eating, fasted at least 12 hrs but most days it was as much as 14 hrs. My weight was 255 in February too, and that marked me as obese. By May I was down 25 lbs, and my a1C dropped to 6.5. My medical providers were blown away. Last week new bloodwork was better yet. Fasting glucose was 95, a1C now 5.5, weight 195lbs. My BP stays around 120-125 over 62 -72 on average. I turn 73 on Friday. I kicked diabetes to the curb.
@@vickitomica9884 I can only assume it did. Recent studies of Metformin suggest it has a big role in longevity as well so even if my numbers pretty much say I don’t have diabetes any long I am going to continue to use it.

Most physicians don't have the time to explain in detail what needs to be done. In most cases, the patient gets 15 minutes to get in the questions during a visit. Its all about the bottom line. Thanks to all the RUclips physicians such as Dr. Sten Eckberb, Dr Eric Berg and Dr. Jason Fung. You guys are a blessing.
I believe healthcare is beginning to change. I'm 32 and rarely went to the doctor. I found a new doctor after getting new insurance and she was in a "by the book" facility. I was on antidepressants and overweight. Cholesterol was high. She explained to me her goal is to get me off the antidepressants and to lose weight with diet and exercise. She told me to start a Mediterranean diet (focus on high omega 3 foods) and walk every day. She really hammered it into me and why it was important, so I decided I was really going to try this time. I did my best to stay on the diet and at the 6 months mark my bloodwork was the best it's been. I've been off the antidepressants for 2 months now and feel amazing. I think doctors are starting to wake up and realize we need a more holistic approach first, then medication as a last resort. They also have a sign on the door yelling at pharma reps to not bother which I thought was funny. Again, this is a very typical western medicine doctor that much of the population in my city uses.
As a person who gets depression I would just say stay strong and keep it going in the hard times because we tend to get knocked down easier. That's where I've had problems staying on track
Stick to that diet like glue. DO NOT go on a Ketogenic diet. I have been on one for 18 months and just stopped it a few days ago. I am extremely fit by my LDL is extremely high due to high saturated fat. Saturated fat is good for helping you absorb vitamins. So when you buy yogurts for example always buy full fat and never low fat. BUT take it easy on it and only have about 10% maximum of your calories as saturated fat. Read my other comment on this page.
Dr. Ekherg, all your videos are eye opening… Thanks am an eye surgeon from India… I reversed my hypertension diabetes completely, in 45 days, just by understanding bio chemistry from your videos… I m now medications free… and I have become a coach in my area in my local language 🙏🙏🙏
Hi Doctor! Hope you’re fantastic! Just letting you know I discovered your education about 2 months ago and I was 330 my heaviest ever. Today I scaled myself and I’m 288. Intermittent fasting everyday 18-24 hours minimum, and keto with a cheat meal once every 5 pounds (to remember I’m still human) 🤣 Thanks to your knowledge you have shared with the world I am healthier and happier!!!! Thank you 🙏
Thank you Dan Vigilant for sharing your great results and helping inspire others. That is so awesome. I am thrilled that you have seen such great results. Keep it up! 😄
Good stuff Dan, I'm also doing something similar, down from 299 to 272 since Christmas. I have considered the cheat meal but I know I will feel guilty after. What do you like to have for your cheat meal? For me it would be a bowl of ramen noodles which I used to eat several times a week!!
Hi Doctor!!!! Checking in with you and the rest of the world! Just wanted to update my progress!!! Today I’m at 264!!! Started at 330 January 14 2022, KETO IF OMAD light walking now and yeah my cholesterol is lower my liver pain is gone I feel light and just happier…today is a cheat(meal) day!!! Time to throw it all off (just for today) for some pizza!!!! Thanks for everything you’re the best! You really are!
My cholesterol is elevated. My doctor suggested to put me on statin. I watched your videos and talked to friends who eat very healthy and their cholesterol was also elevated. I asked my doctor to not put me on statin and she didn’t. I’m healthy, I feel well and I’m 65. Thanks to your videos, I forwarded them to people who were interested in health.
ONE way to confirm or refute if a “bad” lipid profile is having a negative effect is to check a cardiac calcium score - a relatively inexpensive low dose radiation CT scan of the corornary arteries looking for calcium deposits. It is NOT the whole story but a good start ...
I live in Germany and after listening to this amazing video I am so astonished that inssurance company won’t accept my wife because she had a 216 total cholesterol and the accepted one is 200. 95% of health systems lives in coma. I enjoy my Keto and I’m much healthier and consider myself lucky to listen to dr Ekberg Thanks doctor
I cut out the processed carbs, increased my intake of healthy fats and protein 4-5 fold and my triglycerides decreased from typical 150's to 62! In six months. I'm hardly ever hungry and have to remind myself to eat my breakfast at noon. 50 years of eating cardboard. Thanks to Ancel Keyes🤥 Great lecture, thank you.
This explains why I was suffering from terrible Myalgia and short-term Memory problems, but my Doctor never told me it was due to Statins, but kept on prescribing them! 😡
Hi Sten, how is it going ? My LDL has dropped, since Covid flu, Tryglicerides went up, I eat very little Omega 6 intentionally >anyone know why TG went up? Advised to follow Trygliceride - HDL ratio figure. HDL is lower 0.8 I am Diabetic T2. on insulin.Humalin 3 twice a day. Great Video, helpful.
This is one of the best health videos I've ever seen. It's concise, educational, and accurate! A perfect lesson on one of the biggest misconceptions in medicine! Thank you!
I'm in my mid-30s and my blood pressure was uncontrollably on the rise. My doctor suggested statins but after researching many unfortunate side effects🍆🚫... I said screw that. Started exercising, eating better, and sleeping more! My body did a total turn around and she never mentioned it again! Love yourselves people!
You have really opened my eyes to the correlation between fat, carbs and statins. I compare it to grease, flour and milk. On its own, grease (fat) will flow, but when you add flour (carbs) to it, it thickens it and turns it to a pasty substance . You then have to add milk (statins) to turn it into gravy (unhealthy blood). I no longer want "gravy" in my bloodstream!
Dr. Ekberg, you have changed my life! I'm 51 and my weight went up to 152 before Christmas. That's way too heavy for my five foot frame. My doctor also put me on BP and statin drugs 2 years ago. I found your channel and immediately started following your eating plan. I'm doing low carb and OMAD and am down 19 pounds in 9 weeks. Amazing!! I just took myself off the statin drug last week. I've cut the BP med in half (I monitor my BP regularly). My goal weight is 10 pounds away and for once I have the tools to maintain it. Thank you so much!!!
@@trishredding8009 I think I would worry about getting all my nutrients in with just one meal. Two I could see and the intermittent fasting I could see.
Dr. Ekberg, it's great to see you and great that you continue to educate us. I discovered your videos in November 2018 after my doctor diagnosed me with boarder-line high A1c. He gave me the lecture that since my mother had type 2 diabetes I was doomed. I refused to accept his prediction and started to research about diabetes and found your videos about low cab diet. I went back to my doctor only six months later after being on a low carb diet and my A1C has since been normal. My doctor refuses to accept that the low carb diet has helped me prevent diabetes. To be clear I have never been overweight in my life, but my diet was low fat foods and lots of whole grains, and fruits, but I was still in a route to develop diabetes. that's no longer my case. Thank you!!!
The thing is, if you’re Doctor trained twenty years ago they were studying from textbooks that were already twenty years old. Many Doctors are working with information that is 40-50 years out of date and don’t have the time etc to keep their knowledge up to date.
How do we know he right? For decades the FDA told us Cholesterol was bad and people, Just sad ok I remember them telling us eggs where bad??? FYI he is very right!!!! I think you DO but Research Research !!!

Hi, I am a man from Norway, and do like your videos. But i need to write this..-I have had problems with high colestrol for years and also had a heart attack 3 years ago. I use cholestrol medicine, and work out a lot in the gym. But for some reason i never could get my cholestrol leves (LDL)far enough down to the levels it should be. I dont want to increase my cholestrol medicine with higher doses, because i get a lot of pain in muscles. So in desember 2022, my bad cholestrol was as usual a little to high (3.1), so i decieded to only eat clean food, chicken breast and fish and vegetables and so on. No sugar or alcohol. In february after 6-7 weeks i did go to my doctor to measure my cholestrol leves again, and was sure they would improve a lot. But i was shocked..The LDL cholestrol had increased even more to levels of (3.9)..I could not understand why, but i began to investigate why. I did understand of course that it had to do with the increased chicken and fish intake, because everything else in my meals was healthy, and i worked out in the gym 4-6 times each week. I then read that 1 of 3 persons are sensitive to cholestrol in food, and that especially chicken has high amount of cholestrol. -So i then i imidetly cut out all fish and chicken, and started to use protein shakes again to get my proteins every day. I also ate not as healthy as i did before last measure of cholestrol. I ate chocolate and potatochips every weekend...-When i then i measured my cholestrol again with my doctor again some days ago, my LDL cholestrol had dropped very much. It dropped from 3,9 to 2.1, and has never in my life been better. So now i have decreased my cholestrol medicine intake with 75% and also increased my levels of vegetables in, and have no chocolate og potatochips and no meat. I have now lived like this for about 10 days, and will keep doing this to my next cholestrol measurement in may. It will be exiting to see my LDL cholestrol then. But regardless, i will more or less go vegan rest of my life. I only use egg white that are animal product, as i also used the weeks before my last measurement, because egg white has no cholestrol and i want to ensure that i get enough proteins. So my message is..If you have high LDL cholestrol-try to cut out meat for some weeks, and then go to your doctor to measure your levels of cholestrol to see about your levels is better, just because you dont eat meat. I have talked with a lot of heart spesialist doctors the last three years, but no one of them informed me of that i maybe just should try to eat less chicken to get my cholestrol levels down. Chicken is sopose tobe healhty because of it contains little fat..But NO ONE informed me about that chicken has a lot of cholestrol and that 1 of 3 persons is sensitive with cholestrol food.
@trond7778, to try and help you, I suggest you need to watch and understand many of Dr Ekberg's other videos, particularly those on fasting. Search for OMAD (One meal a day). You appear to be concerned about the fat in foods, which is common. Your body needs to become 'Fat Adapted', by fasting for more than a month. I've been fasting for a couple of years and become much healthier. My LDL-C is now very low. I have heart disease and have been pressured into taking Statins and Ezetimibe but I know OMAD, low carb, pasture raised animals with lots of fat gives me the best health, thanks to Dr Ekberg!
Because of you, for the first time in 10 years, I have all of my liver levels under control!!! I could not believe my test results! You are such a blessing.
I have a high fat, low carb diet and my triglycerides were actually the best I ever got at 71. This is down from last year when it was nearly double that.
Same thing happened to me. I THINK triglycerides are effected by carbs. I basically eat almost no carbs and was surprised at how fast my numbers dropped
@markiangooley I remember trying to do carnivore a few years ago, and feeling like I was starving to death after a day. I didn't know why at the time, but I realized that body was only used to using carbs as a fuel source, so only taking in fat from meats felt like starvation. I wish I would have continued then. Still, it's good to be on the right track now.
I have been doing keto since Nov. 2021. I was concerned about cholesterol b/c high numbers run in my family. My doctor sent me for a calcium scoring CT scan which evaluates the state of arteries. Mine came back perfect (no build up). I eat at least 4 eggs and cheese every day.
I had a CAC of 0 and 1.85 the following year, yet this April. I Found plenty of unstable plaque blocking my arteries. My onkh sign was mild angina pain at the sternum on rising from bed, no other indication and dizziness the day I rushed to ER. I needed 2 stents.
@@mayaabraham5743 Sorry to hear that. However, I believe Dr. Eckberg's suggestion that eating cholesterol does not necessarily equate to cholesterol build up. There are other factors within the body that promote abnormal conditions. However, I will definitely continue to monitor my own on a yearly basis. If diet turns out to be a factor, I will change it.
After resisting statins for 10 years, I agreed to try one last week, after my doctor flipped out about my cholesterol numbers (which were very similar to the patient in Dr. Ekberg’s example). Although the dose was low, I had immediate side effects: fatigue of the kind that you have when you haven’t slept well (I was sleeping 9 hours, seemingly soundly), along with a low-level headache and slight muscle aches (again, of the kind that I get when In have been working out but not sleeping well. After three days, I started to feel depressed. I discontinued the statins and immediately felt better.
I had the same issue on Statins. Was on them for over 8 years. Went off and now my numbers are climbing. My cardiologist is putting me on a new drug that is supposed to not have side effects. I don't have it yet and don't remember the name. I'll update this post when I find out.
ONE way to confirm or refute if a “bad” lipid profile is having a negative effect is to check a cardiac calcium score - a relatively inexpensive low dose radiation CT scan of the corornary arteries looking for calcium deposits. It is NOT the whole story but a good start ...
Thank you Dr. Ekberg. I was recommended your channel in October 2021. Since then I do LCHF, and IF (OMAD) since 1 month and lost 30 pounds until today. My BMI is now at 23.5 and Body fat % at 17.5% (male). Still want to lose about 5 Pounds and get my Body Fat down to about 15%. Getting there! You changed my life. THANK YOU!
Thank you R H for sharing your great results and helping inspire others. That is so awesome. I am thrilled that you have seen such great results. Keep it up! 😄
Hey! Me too! Same! I started at 255lbs in October 2021. Now I’m down to 221 the last few days. OMAD for the most part. I’ve found that it gets easier with time to just eat once a day. I think Some of it is addiction too that has to be broken. Stopping my late night eating was really difficult at first. So glad I found your videos Dr. Ekberg! Thank you for providing the graphs and information. I believe the one showing insulin spiking after people consumed white bread, whole wheat, and then hummus, really changed my understanding. Insulin resistance can only be stopped by cutting off carbohydrates as much as possible.
@@drekberg I use to do OMAD and keto, but just recently learned through that intermittent fasting is not good due to too much stress on the body and too many PUFA'S being released. Pufas cause a lot of oxidative stress so They say you should take it slow. What are your thoughts on this?
@@Alchemist523 are you trying to get your two meals within a 6 hour window? Then your insulin will be reduced so you'll be healthier and can lost weight if needed. 😊
Doc Sten, I just finished my first longer fast of 9 days. Never heard you mention this in your videos before so I wanted to let you know that 90% of my eye floaters disappeared!!! I know from you that autophagy and celluar repair are the most likely cause of this so want to let you know! (Start weight 287lbs Nov 2021- Current Weight Feb 2022- 212lbs)
That's fascinating. I don't think I have ever heard about eye floaters disappearing because of autophagy I have never been able to fast that many days but this certainly gives me a new motivation.
I remember reading a couple of comments and Dr. Berg has a video about it, unfortunately when I did a 7 day fast it didn't seem to work for my floaters, will see the next time I do a longer fast.
My paternal grandfather had severe heart disease, and died at age 50 in 1963. I was 5 but I remember my grandmother telling my mother that the cardiologists told her to cut out the 2 eggs for breakfast and feed him Wheaties! I think that precipitated his final cardiac event.
I was diagnosed nearly 20 years ago with borderline high cholesterol when the doctor gave me two options. He suggested either a statin drug or change in diet (one egg per week). I declined both of his recommendations, as he raised his eyebrows at me, and stand here today with no physical health issues whatsoever. We all have a choice to make. We can choose to believe everything the doctor tells us, and do what he says, or we can believe we know ourselves better than he does, and do what we already know is right for our own bodies. I choose to trust myself over anyone else' opinion and it's served me quite well (no prescriptions, no special diet, ...etc.)...
You are amazing! I have learned so much from your videos and many times watch them over again. Because of your videos, I am no longer insulin resistant and feel great! My cholesterol is higher than ever at 248, with LDL at 147, BUT I did the expanded lipid panel and it's the large particle LDL. HDL level at 94, Triglycerides at 44 and VLDL at 7. I eats lots of butter and saturated fats, with mod protein and veggies....low carbs (37) and no sugar or grains. You taught me the importance of intermittent fasting and I now fast daily atleast 18 hours with no problem. I will be donating to your website and keep looking forward to your videos!
Without a doubt this presentation puts everything in the perspective on what your doctor tells you as opposed to what is really going on. Thank you for taking the time to make such a video for people to truly understand what is actually going on in their body.
One of your most brilliant videos Dr Ekberg!! Cholesterol being bad is the BIGGEST myth out there. Cholesterol is actually protective (in most cases) except in the case that you mentioned Familial hypercholesterolemia! I eat beef, butter, bacon and eggs every day and I'm in my best health at 40.
My mother is 100 years old. She ate 2 eggs and two slices of bacon for breakfast every morning. She ate too many sweets and was diabetic in her 50's so her doctor sent her to a nutritionist. Since then she faithfully monitored her carbohydrates. She lost weight and remained very slim since. She never had to take medications for diabetes or much of anything else.
@@vaclavkijonka1895 She lived by herself until recently and did her own cooking, so I do not know how many carbohydrates she consumed, but she did count carbs according to a chart given to her by the dietician. And every morning she ate a poached egg and two slices of bacon. She maintained a low body weight. For the past two years she has been at assisted living where they prepare her meals, but they have her on a low carb diet. She has a very hearty appetite.
More than 20 years ago my doctor at the time put me on cholesterol medication, I had a migraine headache for the 4 days that I was on it. I stopped taking it. I have never taken any cholesterol medication since then. I am 61 now, my triglycerides are 83, my HDL is 60, my F VLDL is 19. I had this test taken last year after starting keto for a couple of months. My new doctor wanted me to go on cholesterol medication, I said no, because my triglycerides and HDL are good.. He had nothing to say to that...other than it's protective.
I was on Statins as instructed when I total was 254, then I started read about Statins. Later on I stopped it and my overall cholesterol came down 235. This video is extremely useful.
This is the absolute best explanation of how cholesterol works in the body that I have seen to date. I will, without question, watch this again. I have several family members who I wish would also watch this, but who I know won't.
I know this struggle too well...my girlfriend's dad is one more heart attack from his grave sadly and humors me, but doesn't actually apply anything. Basically he thinks he's happier being an unhealthy trainwreck eating what he wants than eating keto/carnivore and taking back his health...
The problem with humans is that they have real trouble to admit when they are totaly wrong, specially about colesterol, whom people has been told for 50 years are bad and will give you heart attacks. Talk about having people by the balls, for a billion dollar industri! Is absolutly sickning to the point that this people should be sued from earth to the moon. The problem is that it won't stop because it's so much money involved.
One of the most comprehensive explanations I've seen on the subject. Easy for the layman to understand and a great help to the medical group whose job it is to educate.
Thank you, thank you, thank you ! My initial high school cholesterol test was 300. They told me that was way too high. I was lean, healthy, and in four sports a school year. Since that initial test of 300 I have done everything I could for 40 years to lower it. I ate what I was told was a healthy diet and soon ballooned up to 300 lbs. I literally thought I was dying for years. A keto diet helped, but it wasn't until I added back high fats that I felt better !
What fats did you add, saturated or healthy fats? Also what were you eating and you were exercising too? How did you balloon up, could you have just eaten less?
Ive been doing high fat keto. I lost 80 pounds. My cholesterol dropped from 220 to 166 eating lots of fat. As Dr. E says eating fats doesnt raise cholesterol. We make most of our cholesterol.
As a physician for more than 30 years, Both I and my colleagues have been hypnotized by the guidelines of top medical authorities which have been manipulated by Big Pharma power, then we terribly damaged our patients☺️! Thank you so much for your opening our minds!❤️👍
This video is the best explanation about cholesterol role in our body and how statins interact with our cholesterol metabolism. Great! Thank you! In last 9 months I eat Keto and I do IF. Lost 78 lb., lost high blood pressure, lost high triglycerides, lost borderline high glucose, lost being always tired feeling, etc.
I asked my cardiologist if he ever seen a person with normal cholesterol and heart disease. He said YES. That was a big red flag for me. Smoking, Sugar, high fat, simple carbs and lack of exercise is looking more and more like the cause.
Perfect video for me to watch at this moment. Started a KETO diet three months ago after getting an A1c glucose of 5.8. Today I just got results from new blood tests. A1c now at 5.7 (KETO starting to reverse insulin resistance) but Cholesterol jumped to 284. Thank you, Dr. Ekberg for running through a sample blood test in the video so we could all follow along. My ratio of HDL to LDL is excellent (2.9) . . . and great Triglycerides (58). You provided the reassurance for me to NOT abandon KETO because of the spike in Cholesterol. And you provided the info on getting the Coronary Artery Calcium test to determine whether to be concerned (my Doctor focuses on the total Cholesterol, not the ratio).
I am glad the doc mentioned the Calcium score and the fact it doesn’t pick up the soft, more dangerous plaque that has not calcified. I had a calcium score of 27 which put me at a mild risk. When I went further and had a CT non- invasive Angiogram I found that I had a number of plaque areas that were blocking 50-70% of two arteries which put me at high risk. So if you have a low calcium score and a personal history of smoking, high alcohol intake, chronic stress etc like I did, go to next step. You might save yourself from a future heart attack.

I just got blood testing which I hadn’t done in 3 years, with the last year doing IF and mostly keto diet and substantial reduction of carbs intake. Hello doctor! I have been watching your cholesterol videos for some time, but there is something I didn"t understand, maybe you could make a video on it: If we already have plaque from the small cholesterol, will changing our diet help us reduce it? Or the damage has already been made, and nothing can be done to repair, and by changing the life style, we're only just stopping adding more and more plaque... Thank you so much!
These videos are so well done and make it so easy to understand. I’m a 68 year old female with a cholesterol level of 220 on a non fasting blood work. My GP and my cardiologist both want me on a statin and I told them no thank you. All my other blood work was excellent. It really concerns me that most physicians want to automatically put their patients on statins. My GP told me that every cardiologist in my town puts their patients on a statin at my age. It’s ridiculous!
Modern Doctors are legal drug pushers. The more drugs they dish out the fatter their wallets get. The medical "Schools" were sabotaged long ago by the Rockefeller Foundation, to move away from plant based, natural medicine, to highly profitable patented chemical based drugs that only mask symptoms or create more symptoms due to their toxicity. The Doctors are brain washed or Indoctrinated to push drugs for big pharma, the biggest cash cow on earth!
I against taking statin because side effects is dementia. I took red yeast rice, Moringa, and garlic pills helped my cholesterol reduce fast and also gain many other benefits in Moringa.

2 years ago i cut out carbs, walked every day, did 16 hour fasting, stopped eating sweets and only drink water. I lost 35 pounds BUT my cholesterol jumped 50 points and my bp stayed the same, borderline high. I'm thinking mine is hereditary, as both my parents have high bp, mom has high cholesterol and shes pre diabetic and my dad is full blown diabetic. My mom is the healthiest person i know, she walks every day, very active and is slim, and she eats very healthy.
Thank you is in order. I wish I could convince my family to follow your advice. I'm trying to lead by example. Since I have been following your videos for the last year I have lost 60 pounds and my fasting blood sugar is down from 230 to 107. Hopefully they can see that I look and feel 20 years younger and will begin to listen to me the saturated fat is not bad in and of itself and that the fake foods and sugar we eat is what is putting us in an early grave. Thank you again Dr. Sten, you are much appreciated and I cherish your advice.
Brilliant! So thankful for the break down of this. So tired of medical doctors trying to push statins. We are both nurses, intermittent fast, exercise and eat right (one of us eats clean/natural/whole foods and the other is keto/low carb). Our cholesterol levels are high but the ratios are good. We will not go on statins. Thank you for the info that we can now use with our doc. We will for sure be asking for those extra tests. Blessings!
Dr. Ekberg, you are a Godsend. Thank you for this video. A few months ago I had commented about wanting a video related to cholesterol tests, and here it is! My biggest challenge is convincing my wife, who is a Physician Assistant with over 20 years of experience, that I should come off the statin I have been on for years, despite my LDL having risen since beginning keto and intermittent fasting nearly a year ago.
Thank you for making the informative videos that you make. It’s helping me better understand the physiology behind why things are the way they are in the body. I’m a pharmacist and I learned a lot in school, but I’m learning things here in a different way and I truly appreciate it!
Ok, my sister in law had a cholesterol level of 280 at her checkup. Her doctor told she is in danger of an imminent heart attack. He gave her an injectable drug she uses every 2 weeks. Her cholesterol came down to 170 very quickly. Is this level too low?
I have had a 260 + cholesterol with a 90 to 120 HDL since I was a child I'm now 57. Cardiologist stated he had never seen a HDL this high. No meds he said though, thank goodness. Thank you for sharing this video!
Honestly I never remembered what the ldl was just that the hdl was always 90 to 120. My total was always above 200. So I'm assuming my ldl has always been over 100. My daughters total has always been above 200 also, but unfortunately her hdl is not high.

My numbers are nearly exactly the same as yours. I was on carnivore a few months before these numbers went this high so I am gradually adding a small amount of a few mostly cruciferous vegetables to my second of two meals a day. I am 74, small boned, and 5’ tall. My weight is now where I want it but I worry about my total cholesterol and the very rare high LDL. Dr. wants me on statins but even with my high numbers my HDL/Triglyceride ratio is below 1 so I don’t know if to worry or not. What are your own thoughts about your numbers?

Here in Boulder, CO, my wife and I were able to get the CAC test without doctor's orders. They sent us pictures of the scan. I'm 74 and started keto 2.5 years ago after very high blood sugar readings at the local testing facility. My most recent tests have been mostly in the "normal" range except for cholesterol. The CAC score was 23. Quite a shock.
Checkout high vitamin k2 doses (1-2 mg daily) with vitamin d3. It's effective i removing plaque. There are some hard plaque / soft plaque concerns some people have. Vitamin k is an established therapy for atherosclerosis in Japan since the 90s. But they used vitamin k2-mk4 which is about 20 times less effective than k2-mk7.
@@mreese8764 → You might want to research that more. Ivor Cumins, who seems to know a lot about this, claims that you can not lower your CAC score, only slow the progression.
Dr Sten Ekberg not only puts all other Dr's in the shade, he also restores my faith in the title Doctor as most nowadays seem to be particularly dense after nine years training, arrogant & thinking everyone should touch the forelock and be on awe of them. They think they know everything, surprisingly they only study blood and the blood group's for one afternoon in the whole eight years exc the time spent as junior docs or registrar. I love the fact that this Dr goes into depth he doesn't just skate along the surface --- it's so good like going to a lecture - without talking down to anyone it's uplifting. Takes us onwards & upwards, especially those of is who wanted to study but had no chance & weren't the children of doctors, dentists or surgeons who seem to be shoe'd into position of what they consider an easy number well paid, part time work, two days a week free to do private work. No vocational aspect. I have to add if you are over 60 you have no chance with the medical fraternity. The Surgeons I don't know much about but out would appear they do a good job. But in America the biggest cause of death is from medical malpractice probably in the UK too. Hasn't it dawned on them they will get to that age soon enough! Perhaps we may get the medical fraternity going back to the vocational aspect (not just the financial and the kudos of their position). SW England 🇬🇧 England Peace ☮️ out.
Thank you so much For for your free and open honest and deeply informative documentary on the big picture about cholesterol in our body. Am sure going to benefit from this. I'll try come back after 3months to share my testimony following your advice. God bless you. My key takeaways: damaged LDLs, insulin resistance, oxidation, and stress.
Mt lipid profile 11th Jan 2023 was as follows: HDL 0.85; LDL 6.03; Total 7.99; Triglycerides 2.45. measurements are in mmol/L. I had been put on Statins 10mg to last three months (Jan to end of March), but only did January and stopped. Then I started working on diet and exercise following your advice. On 27th March I repeated the test and these were the results HDL 0.92 (improved); LDL 3.97 (improved); Total 7.99 5.3 (improved); Triglycerides 2.39 (improved). All the indicators had improved especially reduction in LDL, though they were still slightly above the acceptable range. I’ll continue to work on the diet and exercise and will take another test end of June and share. Again, thank you so much for your continued useful advice.

My doctor told me I had familiar hyperchol and a chol level of over 330. He said there is only a 50% chance to reach 50 yr of age, that was as I was 45. Took high statin of different kind and after 2 yrs severe cognitive issues happened. I thought I get alzheimer and luckily found out it is from the statins. The dr did not believe that but I had to stop. Better die than dumb. And all the studies I found online indicated to me as a medical uneducated person that whatever I do to lower cholesterol I would not live longer. And you confirmed that. Thank you so much.
Hi Dr, the difference in my overall health is amazing with a notable increase in strength and energy just from changing my eating habits, mainly cutting out bread, sugar and processed foods.
Jesus!!!!! I was so worried about a 234 number on my cholesterol test. My doctor right away wanted to put me on statin garbage, I said no but I was worried.
Dr Ekberg, I would like to ask you a question. I have found many varying answers, so my question is - what should be the total daily carb intake for someone??? Have type 2 and have severely curtailed my sugar intake, no potatoes, fries, soda, fast food, pizza, bread, etc. Still working on my exercise regimen, but I am uncertain how many daily carbs I should strive for. Is there an exact amount? A range? If you have the time, could you possibly let me know? If not, perfectly understandable. Thank you.
A friend of mine suffered for a couple of years with severe pains in his arms and hands and a loss of grip. He was so bad that he needed painkillers to sleep. He tried several specialists to ascertain the problem and no one seem to know what it was. After a while it occurred to him that it may be the statins that he was taking and he decided to just drop them. Within a month he was completely improved and now simply lives with elevated cholesterol. Some time ago I was with my doctor discussing my blood results and of course I had high cholesterol. She suggested statins and I said, no way, that stuff's poison! She didn't even put up a defence!
This is so good and totally matches my personal experience. It's not exaggerated that, by applying the knowledge I learned from your videos, my health trajectory and quality of life improved in a very significant way. Here's my highest esteem to you, Dr. Ekberg.
Thank you, Dr. Ekberg, for your invaluable info and education! My LDL is 118 mg/dL, higher than the 99 "Normal" range, but all my other LIPID PANEL markers are lower than even the average of the normal range. Over the past two years my family doctor keeps telling me to take statin, and it's very sad that the knowledge you shared has not reached the mainstream family doctors' knowledge base or changed their standard practice procedure!
O don't know why everyone is talking about 100 LDL as high. All my life my LDL was around 200. No doctors ever mentioned being too high. My BP is around 100/60.

This subject gets quite deep, but Dr. Eckberg does a great job at explaining what we need to pay attention to in blood work. I wish every doctor had this approach.
My bet is that most doctors won't explain it because they don't know it. Other than the fact they don't aren't allowed that much time with the patient even if they did know it.
@@RiverCrockett-in7bg I disagree. I think that doctors are constrained by fear of law suits and therefore never break out of the box the insurance companies have them hamstrung with. And frankly, they get lazy. It's far easier to prescribe a pill than dig into your lifestyle. And when that pill hurts your liver, prescribe another pill for that. This is why we have some patients taking a dozen pills!

One question ❓ why is it said that cholesterol in the brain causes dementia?? Is it too much?
@@CoralineJonesPinkPalace probably referring to the plaque build up. Calcium and cholesterol go to sites of inflammation to try and heal the area. Usually the root cause is chronic hyperinsulinemia. Unfortunately many don’t know what the root cause is so they never stop the progression of damage. Note: calcium is sometimes pulled from the bones and teeth for other areas of inflammation. So osteopenia and osteoporosis are also a result of the inflammation.

Wow this is encouraging.
I have had the same results. Keto 2 1/2 years. Down 80 lbs and similar blood test comparison.

After watching this video where Dr. Ekberg talks about the calcium score test I requested my doctor order one for me. It was $350 deductible. It was worth every penny. I had ZERO calcium so my doctor said I don't need to be on statins.
I asked my doctor to not put me on statin and she didn’t. I’m healthy, I feel well and I’m 65. Thanks to your videos, I forwarded them to people who were interested in health.
Great result. You have saved your life and others’ lives in the process

I like your analogy of fat, carbs and statins!

That is an amazing result. Just incredible. I wish more people would do the same and be open minded.

Благодарю, доктор, ❤ интерес слушать и видеть Вас, больше, чем смотреть фильмы. ❤Низкий поклон. 👌💯🙏😇🌷🍏храни вас бог, ха смелость.

Not surprising for triglycerides. Same experience here, roughly: 150 to 80 in just under a year on near-carnivore.
@@markiangooley Why it took that long to lower triglycerides?

How you manage cholesterol now?
I had the same issue on Statins. Was on them for over 8 years. Went off and now my numbers are climbing. My cardiologist is putting me on a new drug that is supposed to not have side effects. I don't have it yet and don't remember the name. I'll update this post when I find out.

What was your ldl level??
@@Dame704 154 ldl and 99 hdl 267 total I've gotten older so hdl is no longer 120 like it had most of my life. I'm 57 now.
@@kymlandia but your ldl has been higher than 150 since you've been 20? Really?
Honestly I never remembered what the ldl was just that the hdl was always 90 to 120. My total was always above 200. So I'm assuming my ldl has always been over 100. My daughters total has always been above 200 also, but unfortunately her hdl is not high.
@@kymlandia your daughter is how old? Sorry for the questions it helps me cause I have high ldl and can't find any info on any one who has had high ldl like above 150 from 20s till 60s kinda thing
I love dr. Ekberg. Listen to Your videos alot. I think I am a lean mass hyper responder. My total cholesterol is 530, LDL 425 but my trig is only 53 and hdl 93. The problem is there are no doctors here who understand
A lot is two words
Are you taking a medication....i have my chlostrol level 279
Hdl 53 and LDL 214
@@bereketberhe167 I don't take medicine. I don't think I will. I try to raise intake of healthy carbs. I will see if that will make a differencen
@@cathyweaver1449 I would not worry about cholesterol. If you live low carb and avoid sugar and seed oils. Eat whole foods and enjoy sunlight and family. Do exercise everyday ex. Plank
Another stellar, bio-chemical presentation on nutritional health. Love his ability to educate so many of us on those things we’ve been entirely mis-informed. Mark Twain; “It’s not what we don’t know that hurts us. It what we know that’s just ain’t so!”
Notice there's no comments from Doctors on here saying "I was wrong before. Thank you for helping me better take care of my patients."
They don't care anymore.
Thank you Dr. Ekberg for your emaculate Educational Pieces.
I am a retired BsN and allopathic doc who always wished I could have been naturopathically trained. I knew my patients were killing themselves with their forks but didn't have such fabulous information! Rita

What was his HDL?
Dr. God bless you and your family
Excellent lesson for me. total cholesterol: 238 Calcium score: zero. My Doc still wants me to go see a heart doc but Didn't tell me why! Maybe To get himself referral cred?
I haven't taken prescribed drugs for years and i'm 65. I'll change the way eat first. My main concern is salt. I haven't used table salt for a long time, stopped drinking coffee and switched to Hibiscus tea. I try to keep my sat. fat lower ... 0 to 5g. However, i love peanut butter. But i have gone from that to Almond Butter.
Good thing that you didn't take statin, many Dr.s don't tell you that it comes with a warning black box that's it's deadly!
Ekberg.
Natural teacher, you make everyone understand health easily. Great video, Sten! Thank you sir!
Dr. Sten is a gem. I was facing hbp and diabetes. His channel came up in my feed one year ago. I've learned so much, kept myself off meds and lost 70 pounds.
This information needs to be 100% absorbed by my brain. This may be the most repeated video I'll ever listen too on RUclips. Very much appreciated!!!🙌
This is such an amazing video. My PhD research is on NAFLD and how it can be treated with exercise, and this is such an important aspect involved in the pathophysiology of NAFLD and the metabolic syndrome. Thank you very much, Dr Ekberg! You're a legend!
This lecture is pure gold!
Thanks for sharing Dr. Ekberg.

I follow the advises of dr Ekberg for one year. My results are 25 kg less and all blood tests are OK. Best. Only the cholesteroll is high. I asked an appoitment to discouse that. But this video make me happy and optimistic.
Can you please give me some direction on how to increase my cholesterol? My total cholesterol is low, 119…but my doctor doesn’t seem to be concerned. I am very concerned due to all the things I have been learning can be linked to low cholesterol. I have been searching for answers and have come up empty. Please help.
Dr. Ekberg, you are so amazing. No one explains things better than you...thank you so much. I wish you were my Dr.
@@monkeyfinger7949 That, too.
Never mind what I dais. I just wached the entire video and it tells us what this patient did. Thank you Dr.Sten for the good work!
