I'm 61. Almost four years ago I was almost 300lbs. with many health issues; high BP, asthma, severe osteoarthritis with bone spurs. I couldn't walk. After watching videos like these, I went low carb, high fat keto and learned how to fast, I lost 160lbs. It reversed ALL my health issues. I'm now active, able to be on my feet all day. I'm off all my medications and my asthma is gone.I did it all on my own. I'm maintaining well and loving my fasting, ketovore lifestyle. I'll trust "my" doctors I follow every time!

My doctor told me to exercise more and cut out sugar. I changed my diet by moving to a "no sugar added" cereal, I substituted dried blueberries for sugar on my cereal and I stopped adding sugar to my coffee and tea. Things didn't get better. Then I learned how to read labels. Total Carbs-Dietary Fiber=Sugar. I discovered my no-sugar-added cereal was essentially a bowl of sugar, the dried blueberries were sugar pills and the various starches I was eating (pasta and bread) were sugar. Salad dressings were also sugar bombs. My wife substituted olive oil and butter for seed oils, and we make our own salad dressings. She changed other ingredients to reduce starches and increased avocados and cruciferous vegetables. Knowing how to identify sugar, we cut our sugar consumption. We also started IF by reducing our eating window to 7 hours. In a month I lost 15 pounds - 10% of my body weight. My wife is happy because she lost weight, too. We are in our 70's and neither of us are on medications.
The moral of the story is in order to reduce sugar, you need to know how to identify it.
Thank you for your very informative videos!

You got wiser - and you convinced your spouse to follow. Great first steps.
People around you won't approve at first.
it is hard to spot the hidden sugar - it's basically in all things, even non sugar products. I make my own yogurt now while fasting 18/6. 42 C (3,5 % milk) with natural yogurt added. One month now - the cravings are gone and I'm starting to feel the benefits. Next step is to fill my time restricted eating with more healthy "whole foods" and cut down on alcohol.

The Breakdown is understandable without a bunch of overwhelming terminology. The examples given are true to life and therefore very applicable. This clearly shows the false data alongside the true data, with case histories of patients that prove each. Four months ago, I was diagnosed with diabetes, with an HbA1c of 10.6, and I had no idea about it. Then, I came across your videos and began to believe in reversing it once I understood the mechanism of insulin resistance. Now, my HbA1c is down to 5.6-simply cutting carbs and practicing intermittent fasting worked wonders for me. Additionally, my lipid profile was concerning, with high VLDL and low HDL levels. After following your advice and incorporating cheese and butter into my meals, my HDL has risen from 37 to 61, and my VLDL has dropped to 16. Thank you so much, Doctor, for showing us a path to a healthier, better life.

I just started watching your videos about two months ago. Even though the subject of body chemistry, etc. may seem boring, I find your videos fascinating and watch them all beginning to end. It’s refreshing to see this information discussed in a non-gimmicky, non-fanatical way without trying to push a bunch of products. You are so right about how doctors are these days. My tests came back with high A1C and liver enzymes and there was only canned remarks. NO discussion or follow-up with doctors. They either don’t care, don’t know or don’t think it will do any good to discuss lifestyle changes even though I specifically said I don’t want meds, but want advice on what I could do to lower my numbers. I thought I was healthy and didn’t even understand the importance of the test results. Now, with your help I do, and have taken action (-20 lbs and counting). I talk about you to my family and friends all of the time and they all are sick of hearing about Dr. Sten. Once they see how successful I am with my new healthier lifestyle I hope they will join us. Thank you!

    I can offer another testimony.
02 July 24, newly diagnosed T2D, 100 lbs overweight, morbid obesity with fatty liver, BP= 179/89, difficult to dress, difficult to exercise, difficult to get up and down, difficult to breath…
03 July 24, began strict Keto and OMAD…..
06 September 24, I’ve decreased my weight, 51 lbs, my BP = 101/60, easier to dress, exercise has increased X 100%, dressing much easier, getting up and down easier, breathing easier, eye sight better, cognition better (reading much faster/comprehending quicker).
I still have a long way to go; but, with this honest attempt at OMAD and strict Keto working well, I will continue and add some 1-3 day fasting. My appetite has decreased significantly. My taste for sweets has decreased. I still look at bread with hard cravings sometimes. I just turn away most of the time. One day I had some tortilla chips with salsa. One day I shared an Apple fritter with my wife. SHEESH, the guilt ruined the pleasure.
Thanks, Dr. Ekberg, from east Tennessee.

Well done! You are very disciplined, and I'm confident you will succeed. Of course, if you want to maintain that you can never go back to the old ways.
I am taking a slightly different approach. In January I began a "low-carb" diet (not keto) combined with physical activity (hiking 10-15 miles daily). The time to do that (2-4h) is the time I used to waste eating chips, cakes and cookies in front of the computer. I still crave those things to be sure, but haven't touched any or eaten fast food since January. I slammed the door firmly shut on those mouthwatering delights.
With this approach I went from 290lb to 190lb in 8 months. The diabetes is "gone". People cannot believe I am the same person. I fit into normal clothing, not giant sweatpants and 4XL T-shirts. I'm wearing clothes that have literally gathered dust in the closet for 15 years. Getting out of bed no longer involves contortions. It feels incredible.
But I have hit a wall. I knew this would happen. Being 100 pounds lighter, I am doing far less work. Continued reduction will require a new strategy such as proper fasting, keto and strength training. You are on track to avoid this issue, so well done indeed!

I'm 35 years old. I've had Lyme Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever for 30 years. Undiagnosed and mistreated for 27 years. I had to tell doctors what to test me for to figure it out. Took the antibiotics and it almost killed me and I was completely bed ridden. I tried countless natural remedies all of them made me worse. I had massive inflammation in my entire body. Literally measurable disease in every organ of my body. After I took the antibiotics I never saw another doctor again and I won't for the rest of my life! Through diet and eventually exercise and being outdoors as much as possible I've managed to reverse everything and now am far healthier than 80% of Americans. Now my idea of a good time is hiking 20 miles while fasting the whole time. Please listen to what this man says. It might just save your life!

I finally cut the ties with his practice as he got upset with my diet and my changes. Unfortunately he is the Director of the Hospital as well and you know his thinking and thought process is governing the entire medical field at that hospital. Your channel has helped me in so many ways. The road is slow, but i am making progress and losing weight and my blood work is getting better each time. Thank you so much for your help Dr. Ekberg. Hi Sten, I've been following you for a few years now and your advice has TOTALLY transformed my life.
I was struck down by Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in 2011 which involved a high element of pain. I was on large amounts of medication and decided this was simply not sustainable. As a result of your advice I started taking a daily smoothy made of Flax seed, Chia seed, raw Cocao powder, Ginger, Ceylon Cinnomon, Macca (and now Ashwagandha). I eat a high protein, high fat but low carb diet. I lost weight, the pain vanished and I'm exercising daily and doing multi day hikes in the mountains etc. Best of all I'm on absolutely no medications. I've noticed I no longer seem to get ill with coughs or colds. I simply cannot thank you enough for changing my understanding of nutrition and anti inflammatory foods. You succeeded where FOUR consultants totally failed. THANK YOU!!!!

Thank you - great point about the doctor who said "You could eat less sugar ... but you won't". I think this problem is amplified by our health care system that rewards very short patient-doctor interactions and leaves the doctor little room or motivation for follow ups and actually helping patients manage their issues without drugs (or without a reimbursable diagnosis)

stop eating crap and you will get better. 100%
with tough love I tell you, stop the pity party. YOU can turn this around. One day at A TIME.
Eat meat, veg and nuts only (don't even worry about which veg is low carb or what for now), drink only water and tea and coffee with a little milk if needed.
Thats it. Don't cheat. Don't go hungry. Just eat from these choices.
You will slowly not eat as often and then you can start intermittent fasting at 12 hours. Like 8pm till 8am.
Get out in the sunshine for a little stroll. even to your mail box, is a start.
Stop ingesting unnecessary toxic load. NO pain killers for mild stuff. start buying beauty and cleaning products that are chemical free.
BOOM. your doing it. Thats it. THATS ALL YOU GOTTA DO.
the weight will fall off you and you WILL reverse your diabetes.

I work for a company that produces food packaging. The and/or ingredients doesn't mean they don't know what's in the product. The ingredients vary when commodity prices shift or some become unavailable. (For instance, the war in Ukraine lead to sunflower oil shortages.) Packaging/labeling is expensive, so they list potential ingredients. Otherwise they would have to keep swapping labels for different production runs of their product. Very annoying for the consumer, but it makes financial sense. Money rules.

I'm convinced it was her diet - she rarely ate a normal or balanced meal, but would nibble on buttered toast and eat several bananas a day, believing that 'fruit' was good for her. She rarely ate protein and cooked with bad oils. She was also inactive. The death certificate stated that she died of non-alcohol related cirrhosis of the liver. I went for a CT scan for a chronic pain in my side. No doctor has found the reason for my pain but I did find out I have mild fatty liver…no one has discussed it. Doctors were upset I stopped taking my blood pressure and cholesterol meds. Glad I found keto on RUclips. Hopefully I’ll reverse my fatty liver and plug on trying to figure out why my side hurts.
