Always look forward to your videos! Very educational and informative!! Had my T checked via bloodwork 6 years ago, when I was 54 years old, it was kinda low (375). My urologist warned me against taking any T raising supplements since My uncle (dad’s brother) had prostate cancer many years ago. Over the past 5 years I’ve had both of my hips replaced and a rotator cuff surgery so my exercise has been limited to walking and I’ve been working out 1-3 x a week with my BowFlex machine since after I recovered from last hip replacement surgery in Nov 2023.
29, had very low free test and high estrogen. Have had hypothyroidism all my life but that's been medicated for 18 years. Was put of HCG (precursor to TRT) and it completely messed me up. Was amazing for the first 3 months before the hypertension started. Long story short I ended up having a complex auto immune disease that I have now remediated. My testosterone is now naturally high. If you are under 50 and have low test. It's your bodies check engine light. It is a symptom not a cause!
Very concise and informative, I achieve about 80% of those ways to increase T, they definitely make for a healthy lifestyle. Starting or changing to do these activities is the hardest part, once you have got a routine and established as habits, you feel so much better.
I recently completed 28 radiation sessions and 7 months of androgen blocking therapy for prostate cancer. Even three months after completing the ABT I still have hot flashes, fatigue, brain fog, weight gain and some cognitive issues. I also use a CPAP but continue to have poor sleep. During the workup for the cancer treatment, it was discovered I had a 65mm tumor on my left kidney. By this last November the renal tumor had grown to 70mm and was removed. I will be doing a blood test every three months for the next two years to check my PSA level ordered by a medical oncologist not my urologist (Monday it was 1!). Should I be doing a testosterone blood test as well to establish a baseline and monitor my recover? Full disclosure here, my urologist is very resistant to me having a blood test for testosterone but was short on an substantive reason why.
Your comment on plastics is interesting. In Tobermory, they have little water sampling station set up out in the mouth of Georgian bay that is measuring the micro plastics in the water. The you stop and look at the food we eat every that is covered in plastic. Bread, cucumbers, berries, meats,(chicken wings) cerials, dairy, the pills we take. No wonder people are less healthy than 50 yrs ago. Your discussion is an eye opener. Thank you.
My doctor ignored my issue. I scored 210 and 11 on my blood work. I have low energy low bone density as well as being very moody and taking Tadadafill. I changed my diet and lost 25lb all while lifting weights. One year later, i scored 240 and 12 on blood work. I went to Science and Humans who took my issue seriously . Im on 2 packs of Andogel a day and feel great. I will get my blood work done next week, which Im not interested in as the score doesn't matter when im feeling good!!!
Great informative talks by you two wonderful Doctors- thanks for all you do. I have found regular weight training, staying lean, but the one key for me was intermittent fasting 16/8 which I started years ago, measured my T levels and today at 65 my T is at higher end of the reference range. My fasting has evolved to 19/5 6 days week, and 60 hrs once a month -FASTING actually raises your T while fasting - it works for me and I feel better. And yes sleep is paramount!!
Thanks for the tips gentlemen. Following SBRT and Lupron treatments for prostate cancer my level has been about zero. After about 2 years since my last Lupron shot my level has finally reached the bottom of the normal range ( per LifeLabs testing). Exercise is difficult as my cancer treatments were followed up in 2024 by post surgical peripheral neuropathy following vascular surgery on one leg. I'm trying the other solutions you're recommending and will try to ramp up my exercise program as my recovery permits. It's been a long road......
Back to the first statement in this video and how cholesterol is important to hormone production. With all the demonisation of cholesteral and the widespread use of statins, surely this is having an impact on T production. Another interesting natural protocal that I've come across and is working for lots of people is the doing cold plunge followed by a light workout for 20mins or so. Seen some people posting their blood work pre and post doing this for a few weeks with amazing results. Anyone else out there come across this?
At 64+ my T level is very low despite being a big strong guy. I deal with obesity, hypothyroidism, sleep apnea (greatly helped with a CPAP machine). I get up around 6 times a night to pee. I don't like the PMS-type mood swings. Stressed out about things that didn't bother me before. The chemicals and antibiotics in everything is killing our good bacteria which is needed for mental well being. Depleated soils. In an attempt to compensate, the T gel rub-on does help, yet it does swell my prostate and reduces my pee stream. Foods like red meat, clams help me. Could be the zinc or iron content of those. Weight lifting helps, but with low-T you have a loss in energy and motivation to lift especially with H.I.I.T
I have sleep apnea as well. Luckily, mine is well controlled via an oral appliance which relocates my lower jaw a few centimeters and eliminates it. You should look into it.
Both knees and one shoulder, were tagged for complete replacement. 5 years ago so HIIT not happening. Had PE 12 years ago. So doctors say no TRT. Blood test showed below low levels. What are my options?
I think my level is okay. On the other topic of plastics in the body, plain old tea bags are dumping micro plastics into you with every sip. I'm not sure if that's bad, but it stays with you. Thanks Docs, I enjoy all of your videos.
I'm 57 and have a few of the symptoms shown in this video. The doctor who fixed my meniscus tear said I'm to only do low-intensity exercises. I refuse to go into a swimming pool. I also have a tear near my rotator cuff on my right shoulder that I'm supposed to do exercises to strengthen the muscles in that area. What other exercises can I do to hopefully help resolve a possible low T issue? I can't lift weights to build muscles but would like to know what else I can do to build muscles to not have a low T issue.
My testosterone has been zero for 8 years due to Androgen Deprivation Therapy as a result of prostate cancer. 🙁 Testosterone is like fertiliser on a garden if you have PCa. I think I would recommend a PCa blood test before taking testosterone supplements.
Recently had my testosterone checked, turned out normal. If I stop drinking coffee, I stop doing the standing & walking & the words-putting-into-sentence doing. 😵💫☕ I had an Italian friend that called coffee, 'coff'. Of course whenever he asked anyone; " you wanna go fa coff? " it would raise some eyebrows!
Whats normal, the government keeps lowering the max for testosterone .at one time 1200 was normal for the high what levels did men have 100 years ago.dont go to a gp doctor they have no idea because they are not trained to worry about your levels,my foc said you have plenty of testosterone ,he did not want to be bothered and test is a controlled drug so they don't want to get involved in prescribing it.
I worked with a doctor who was self educated in Bio Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy. We had many younger law enforcement patients as well as guys within the fire department agencies. They all were in fabulous shape and yet were complaining of feeling tired, with low libido. Their labs showed testosterone levels of 70 year-olds. We got them on testosterone and they reported feeling a ton better, increased energy, better able to work out and their wives were happy, except one who wanted to fill the syringe with water as she was tired of being chased around the bed every night.
Absolutely! I started HRT four months ago (subdermal pellets) and WOW...what a difference! I've gained muscle mass, am seeing improved agility and stamina on the racquetball court, sleeping better and spontaneous boners...well....I'm liking that and so is Momma!
My problem is definitely sleep. I am 65 and I suffer from BPH. Falling asleep is no problem but I'm usually up to urinate 3 to 8 times a night. I never drink anything passed 8 pm but still urinate a lot overnight. Doc gave me a prescription but it gave me blurry vision so I had to stop.
I have suffered from an enlarged prostate for years. Used saw palmetto during that time pretty successfully to treat it until I could not void one night/morning. At 63 yo, just had aquablation done. I am glad I did it. It has been about 5 weeks since the procedure so everything in that department is adjusting. Sexual function works well. Plenty of RUclips info on aquablation.
yes it is good. Started to use compounding cream(prescription) at age 61 because my testoterone was only 4. Look at all the frail elderly women. Very low or no testosterone in these women.
I had to stop TRT because my blood values quickly increased off scale. Having read somewhere that supplementation with some minerals and the like , I gave it a try. Boron magnesium tareate zinc and selenium. I assumed it would do zilch but to my surprise it feels exactly like I’m back on trt. That particular fifteen years younger feeling. Obviously I should have my blood tested again but for now I won’t :)
Thanks again. I’m sure there is lots of preparation involved in your vignettes, and this consumes even more of your limited personal time. So, thank you for helping us to better understand our bodies and our health. I wonder how important laughter is to our health?😊
Laughter is actually quite beneficial for health. A study published in the journal Psychological Science found that laughter can reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance immune function by increasing endorphins. (Martin, R.A. "The psychology of humor: An integrative approach." Psychological Science, 2003).
I checked my testosterone periodically and i can say that to increase testosterone you should lift weight with a high intensity. This is a key. The weight should be about 80% of your max. And volume is also very very important. I mean 5x5 (2 for warming up and 3 working) plan works perfect 👌. I got 31 nanomol/l. When I did lower - 3x5 (2 warm-up and 1 working) my testosterone reduced to 18 nanomol/l. The ideal - when after training in the evening about 21:00 you should feel very very tired and crawl to your bed.
This is good advice that will raise your testosterone level a little bit. But not more than 100 points. If you’re low start with this, but if you need to come up a lot, this isn’t gonna take you there.
I'm 59. My Dr. said he never saw anyone with a T level as low as mine. I have the 6 factors you mentioned. Poor sleep, obesity, drinking, stress, poor diet. In short, I'm a salesman. I'll retire at 62. Will it be too late for me after that?
I am 72 diad panhypopituitarism since 25 years . I use to supplement Testosterone but I have developed very severe allergy . I live with Zero testosterone . Any suggestion ?; Have tried all formats of testosterone , got reaction almost like anaphylaxis
If you are over 40, simply ask at your next blood test for them to also check testosterone levels if you have any symptoms. COV i D effected many people, and there are studies showing testosterone was effected.
At 71 I have had thoughts about testosterone supplementation even though m testosterone levels are "normal" for my age. This gets back to what is normal, a number based upon a median of others in my age group or the levels that we had as teenagers or in our 20's? Yes, my levels are normal for my age, but compared to a 20 year old, my testosterone is quite low. If want to keep muscle mass (not bulk but reduced age related sarcopenia) then maybe supplementation is the route to go, as the factors you talk about may increase testosterone levels somewhat, but nowhere near enough as compared to the levels of being younger. What do you think?
We think your levels go down for a reason. If you’re in the normal range and don’t suffer from any of the symptoms mentioned we would tend to not think about supplementation which is not without risk. We are planning a video about it
No only excessive distance I’ve heard. Like marathons but after years. Of over distance like training or running. Over 2 or 3 hours. And not enough rest days. I’ve seen non professional distance runners. Who look pretty healthy at age 40 s and. 50 s.
I would love to you guys as doctors do a deep dive into alcohol. Even if one person watches it and is saved. I say this because my husband had a heart attack in June of this year and Every Single Doctor repeatedly told him he should never drink again. I heard the word wernacke-korsakoff...he was treated for it but didn't have it...just all to say my husband has been a functional alcoholic his entire life and has not had a drink since his heart attack because the doctors finally got through to him how absolutely dangerous it is. I personally would be interested in listening to you two talk about it because you have facts about what it does to your organs.
I'm trying to cut down on plastics, but it's so good. It's addictive I think. I need to get my X checked. Where X is the molecule that allows you to comprehend as fast as a fast talker talks. Like Dr on the right.
The 10 set of 10 deadlift definitely raises T levels, IF the recovery process goes well. To recover properly sleep and eating has to happen, then you can lift more the next time. The workout itself is like 10% of the total stuff you have to do, the other 90% is recovery. Before starting the 10x10 deadlift program, you should condition yourself using a 5x5 program that includes squats for about 6 months so you dont get injured doing higher volume. You will feel the T levels go up big time when your pulling 70% of your body wieght.
Supplementation is key for me! 49 yrs old and working out is essential(weight training) over treadmilling. a good whey/protein is important, amino acids and vitamins are critical. Also additional l-arginine, omegas and fenugreek are in my dailies!
Be sure your supplements are 3rd party or USP tested. Consumer Reports tests through an independent lab many popular supplements. The results are all over the place.
I agree and doing very similar to you , been back in the gym for a few months now & loving it at 64...A good healthy diet high in protein & amino acids is showing good results...
Alcohol seems to be the root of all evil as it does nothing positive to our bodies. Sure I used to drink when I was in my 20's as a lot of people do. Then people at work would occasionally go out for drinks after work. But I haven't had a drink in a very long time because it just doesn't appeal to me anymore. Plus I'm on medication that can't be mixed with alcohol. It's very difficult when you discover that a family member is an alcoholic. I realize a lot of people who are stressed turn to alcohol to relax and unwind from their job. But drinking until they pass out is just masking the problem. I never begrudged anyone drinking until I saw it kill someone close. I think someone should be able to enjoy an occasional drink but unfortunately there's nothing healthy in alcohol. There are a lot of closet alcoholics, ones that will tell you that they're no longer drinking or who have cut it down to once a week. But in reality, it's just part of their daily routine. If you confront someone who constantly drinks, they will deny it or make excuses. You've mentioned not drinking in several of your videos. This is wise advice but it often falls on deaf ears. So when you make a video about alcohol, please remember to include the amount of people who have died from it. Especially the ones who drank themselves to death but also including the accidents caused from driving drunk. I'm writing this now because I'll probably have a problem responding to the actual video. Alcohol has made a hard impact on my family. Plus I don't have anything to say about testosterone. I love how you inform us about so many good things and even give us some laughs! You're a credit to your profession! Thanks for sharing another great video!
I’m in my mid 50s and had T levels checked a few years ago. Was just below 600, around 588. I was lifting a lot the weeks leading up to the test. I also find that intense exercise the day before can lead to great mood, mental clarity, good energy, etc… it may be sleep, may be testosterone, not sure. But intense exercise seems to do wonders for those things. Never considered trt. Would only consider as a last resort. The problem with low energy is it can be caused by many things. It’s not necessarily T levels. Sex drive as well.
What about doing a video on creatine supplement Good for muscle development, bones and brain health according to neuroscience dr interviewed on diary of a CEO
I do weight training twice per week with Olympic free weights switching between a light, medium, and heavy weeks on weights as well as walking mostly daily. I also do bicycling weather permitting, eating correctly, but do eat a lot of protein. At 61 I feel good but not great compared to when I was 20 or 30 so I am chalking that up to age. Remember kids this is life none of us are getting out of it alive so remember to live a little!
Healthy weight… If bulking up with muscle is good, but weight is bad… BMI can really be deceiving, muscle to fat ratio, can y’all talk more about this.
You’ll only lose your hair if you are genetically predisposed to. If you haven’t started losing your hair by 30 you’ll probably never lose it. I’ve used high dose steroid cycles and never lost hair so trt for me is fine. For you at 55 if you still have a full head of hair trt won’t affect it.
I'm 58 and had about a Norwood 4 until I got a hair transplant. I hated the widows peak and that little spot of balding in the very back. Having said that.... testosterone injections and finasteride had zero impact on hair loss for me. At 56 you are pretty much in the safe zone as your hormones have stabilized. Google "when does male hair loss stabilize"
1. Exercise (HIIT and resistance training) 3:37
2. Sleep (7-9 hours) 5:40
3. Reduce stress (cortisol reduces testosterone) 7:44
4. Nutritions (Vitamin D, Zinc, Magnesium) 9:30
5. Healthy weight (more adipose tissue = converts testosterone into estrogen) 10:00
6. Reduce inhibitors (alcohol, plastics) 10:50
Nice summary!
This summary made this very actionable.
Thank YOU!!!💯

29, had very low free test and high estrogen. Have had hypothyroidism all my life but that's been medicated for 18 years. Was put of HCG (precursor to TRT) and it completely messed me up. Was amazing for the first 3 months before the hypertension started. Long story short I ended up having a complex auto immune disease that I have now remediated. My testosterone is now naturally high. If you are under 50 and have low test. It's your bodies check engine light. It is a symptom not a cause!
Are you still doing replacement therapy?
Very concise and informative, I achieve about 80% of those ways to increase T, they definitely make for a healthy lifestyle. Starting or changing to do these activities is the hardest part, once you have got a routine and established as habits, you feel so much better.
We totally agree Dr Steve!
Thank you.
Just love your synchronous swimming, pardon, talking. It's so enjoyable and stress-free...
@@davidanderson8469 Thanks !
Both knees and one shoulder, were tagged for complete replacement. 5 years ago so HIIT not happening. Had PE 12 years ago. So doctors say no TRT. Blood test showed below low levels. What are my options?
Thanks Doc’s! I learn a lot from your videos. I am healthier because of you.
You are very welcome!
I think my level is okay. On the other topic of plastics in the body, plain old tea bags are dumping micro plastics into you with every sip. I'm not sure if that's bad, but it stays with you. Thanks Docs, I enjoy all of your videos.
Well another great and informative health video - with the needed humor. Thanks again, from TX...
Welcome to Texas from Canada!
Thanks for all the great information; and pop culture references
I'm 57 and have a few of the symptoms shown in this video. The doctor who fixed my meniscus tear said I'm to only do low-intensity exercises. I refuse to go into a swimming pool. I also have a tear near my rotator cuff on my right shoulder that I'm supposed to do exercises to strengthen the muscles in that area. What other exercises can I do to hopefully help resolve a possible low T issue? I can't lift weights to build muscles but would like to know what else I can do to build muscles to not have a low T issue.
Body weight exercise burpees push-ups. Dips. Chin ups pull-ups.
My testosterone has been zero for 8 years due to Androgen Deprivation Therapy as a result of prostate cancer. 🙁 Testosterone is like fertiliser on a garden if you have PCa. I think I would recommend a PCa blood test before taking testosterone supplements.
Great episode!!!! Have a great weekend!
Any tips for military members that are in high stress roles, that a lot of times don't get the required sleep or nutrition.
Thank you for making these videos!
Glad you like them! Very welcome
My issue is that my estrogen destroys my testosterone, I got 200mg to 400mg shots and it helps but is there a solution to fight my estrogen ?
Great video, thanks boys!! Still wondering about HRT, what it really does, does it help, etc. Thanks for this.
Thank you for the information. You guys are amazing.
Great tips!
I need yall to write me a scrip on the downlow for some cypionate. Much appreciated.
Ha! You two guys are just the best ^^
Great stuff docs.
Thanks!
Check glucose levels and cut sugar.
Get a vitamin deficiency blood test. You’re likely Magnesium deficient
A friend is recovering from prostate cancer. He said he sleeps much better after having successful treatment
Is testosterone replacement therapy also good for post-menopausal women? If so, what are the potential pros and cons?
No, testosterone is for men.
yes it is good.
I can't sprint, Spinal Stenosis. I use giant set, moderate weight, weight training for HIIT. 20-28 SETS, 40-50 minutes, gets me to where I need to be.
Another excellent video. Thank you gents.
Thank you Carmen!!
I look at my wife of 32 years and my testosterone skyrockets!
That is really awesome. She is a lucky gal.
@@TalkingWithDocs I’m the lucky one
Thanks again. I’m sure there is lots of preparation involved in your vignettes, and this consumes even more of your limited personal time. So, thank you for helping us to better understand our bodies and our health. I wonder how important laughter is to our health?😊
Laughter is actually quite beneficial for health. A study published in the journal Psychological Science found that laughter can reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance immune function by increasing endorphins. (Martin, R.A. "The psychology of humor: An integrative approach." Psychological Science, 2003).
What about DHT and Prostate health?
So there is some risk with testosterone supplementation
I checked my testosterone periodically and i can say that to increase testosterone you should lift weight with a high intensity. This is a key. The weight should be about 80% of your max. And volume is also very very important. I mean 5x5 (2 for warming up and 3 working) plan works perfect 👌. I got 31 nanomol/l. When I did lower - 3x5 (2 warm-up and 1 working) my testosterone reduced to 18 nanomol/l. The ideal - when after training in the evening about 21:00 you should feel very very tired and crawl to your bed.
Getting out of toxic relationships- while all the toxic people from my life moved in just the floor above on purpose.
Oh no
Are they professional upstairs neighbors?😂
This is good advice that will raise your testosterone level a little bit. But not more than 100 points. If you’re low start with this, but if you need to come up a lot, this isn’t gonna take you there.
I'm 59. My Dr. said he never saw anyone with a T level as low as mine. I have the 6 factors you mentioned. Poor sleep, obesity, drinking, stress, poor diet. In short, I'm a salesman. I'll retire at 62. Will it be too late for me after that?
Cheers Docs ! :) At 82 I sleep for about 5 to 6 hours a night . It may not be enough ...
Not quite. Need another hour or two
Does one get the same benefits of Green Tea if it's decaffeinated? (Even the best type of processing removal technique).
I am 72 diad panhypopituitarism since 25 years . I use to supplement Testosterone but I have developed very severe allergy . I live with Zero testosterone . Any suggestion ?; Have tried all formats of testosterone , got reaction almost like anaphylaxis
Thank you for the good information.
Glad it was helpful!
Please do a video on TRT. THANK YOU.
If you are over 40, simply ask at your next blood test for them to also check testosterone levels if you have any symptoms. COV i D effected many people, and there are studies showing testosterone was effected.
So testosterone is at its highest in the morning.
That explains a few things
Good information, thanks for sharing
We are planning a video about it
Does long endurance training reduce it. And what if you both long and short distance
No only excessive distance I’ve heard. Like marathons but after years. Of over distance like training or running. Over 2 or 3 hours. And not enough rest days. I’ve seen non professional distance runners. Who look pretty healthy at age 40 s and. 50 s.
I have been doing somewhat what they talk about and my T went from 200 something to 400. I'm 67.
Thank you
I would love to you guys as doctors do a deep dive into alcohol.
It is high on our list to do
I'm trying to cut down on plastics, but it's so good. It's addictive I think. I need to get my X checked. Where X is the molecule that allows you to comprehend as fast as a fast talker talks. Like Dr on the right.
Do SSRI’s (antidepressants) lower testosterone? If you get off SSRI’s does testosterone return to normal?
The 10 set of 10 deadlift definitely raises T levels, IF the recovery process goes well. To recover properly sleep and eating has to happen, then you can lift more the next time. The workout itself is like 10% of the total stuff you have to do, the other 90% is recovery. Before starting the 10x10 deadlift program, you should condition yourself using a 5x5 program that includes squats for about 6 months so you dont get injured doing higher volume. You will feel the T levels go up big time when your pulling 70% of your body wieght.
save time, start at 3:15
Always appreciate your knowledge and fun presentation❤. You make it fun even if we can’t have 🍷, 😂
Supplementation is key for me! 49 yrs old and working out is essential(weight training) over treadmilling. a good whey/protein is important, amino acids and vitamins are critical. Also additional
l-arginine, omegas and fenugreek are in my dailies!
You guys are fantastic. When are you going on tour ??
What about vitamin S? I have heard that can help.
A nice negligee helps production :)
🤣
As a man I don’t think it would suit me 😅
Yes, you do need to make a video on alcohol...please.
We will. It will be short. Safe amount is zero 😀
Any supplement that can help indirectly?
So why no numbers for test levels?
It varies but 300-1000ng/dl
@TalkingWithDocs how about numbers for free floating testosterone and would that be more important?
.I am 31 years old and smoke 4-5 cigarettes per day. How damaging could this be for my testosterone levels?
Significant to be honest. And for other aspects of your health. There is u fortunately no safe amount
@@TalkingWithDocs Thanks Doc.
But in the past you mentioned that both soy and flax seed dent testosterone?
Alcohol is a definite NO! And that might be my entire problem.
Clomid is a relatively inexpensive way to increase T levels, without the nasty side effects of TRT.
What about testosterone replacement therapy?
I’m in my mid 50s and had T levels checked a few years ago. Was just below 600, around 588. I was lifting a lot the weeks leading up to the test.
I also find that intense exercise the day before can lead to great mood, mental clarity, good energy, etc… it may be sleep, may be testosterone, not sure. But intense exercise seems to do wonders for those things.
Never considered trt. Would only consider as a last resort.
The problem with low energy is it can be caused by many things. It’s not necessarily T levels. Sex drive as well.
Does that mean that if women want more estrogen, that they should carry some weight?
What about doing a video on creatine supplement Good for muscle development, bones and brain health according to neuroscience dr interviewed on diary of a CEO
I do weight training twice per week with Olympic free weights switching between a light, medium, and heavy weeks on weights as well as walking mostly daily. I also do bicycling weather permitting, eating correctly, but do eat a lot of protein. At 61 I feel good but not great compared to when I was 20 or 30 so I am chalking that up to age. Remember kids this is life none of us are getting out of it alive so remember to live a little!
Ha
I pity the fool who doesn’t watch Talking With Docs! 😱
Healthy weight… If bulking up with muscle is good, but weight is bad… BMI can really be deceiving, muscle to fat ratio, can y’all talk more about this.
At 56 I like my hair still, so still trying Naturally first.... Weights, supplements, Diet, etc🏋♂️🏃♂️.
Very informative regarding this subject of low T. Thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
