My first ever gun was a WW2 Mosin that my grandfather bought me for my birthday for $75. I still take the rifle hunting with me every year and I have never had a problem with it
$75? Holy cow
That's about how much they were when I bought my 1st one too, ended up getting my 2nd one for 69.99, can't beat it have, a few wood crates full of ammo too that I got for about 100 dollars a piece 880 rounds each
Got mine for 300 euros, now the price has gone up to almost 500, im glad i got it right before the rising prices in Europe
Same $86.00 for me .
Gorgeous rifle!. I love the old 7.62x54, It's hard to believe not too long ago they used to sell Mosins straight from the crate dripping with cosmoline for around $50 🤑
You inspired me to get into guns also educated me about firearms, thanks great channel with educational advice for those who gun illiterate! Keep’n coming brother!
I’ve got a ton of brass. I’ll get dies and reload one day. I bought my first mosin in 2006 while in service, then I bought two more in 2008ish when I got home. I would highly recommend making your own loads and see how accurate you can get with it. I don’t care what others say, the rifle is a beaut.
Ray did my Garand re-barrel with a Kreiger GI profile. The brass needs no trimming and a .002" bump to reload it. Nice tight match chamber he put in it. 155 Nosler Custom Comps are its favorite and mine for a bit less recoil. A custom bag for the Rest would probably help. Can get the rest further forward on the stock if you wanted. Take it up to River Bend for the Sunday morning 600 yard match. Run it in F class.
Gorgeous rifle Erik!
Glad to see you guys using this ammo. I use it for the same reason. My mosin is having a new barrel put on it as my project. Original barrel is spent. Ppl think I’m crazy for spending that kind of money on a mosin but it can be used like this and still be put back in the old wood stock.
My UK59 barrel Mosin always draws attention at the range. I do have my barrel turned to .925” diameter which helps with the weight. Nice job.
can you give me info on how to get my mosin customize with that barrel
@@Mel-ne3mx you got to find one those barrels first. Then take it all to a confident gunsmith.
I've got one too! Mine is also in a Blue grass gunstock in black, burnt bronze cerakoated metal, Rock Solid scope mount and bolt body. Timney trigger is the best upgrade for the whole rifle. Unfortunately I have a cheapo scope. Thanks so much for putting this video up!!!
Nice rifle. Supressors definitely matches the gun. Don't forget the m24 weapon system holds 3 inch groups at 500 meters. Big group for an 800 meter snipers rifle.
No longer fugly. Natasha looking hot. Like one of those makeover shows where the homely girl gets all gussied up and you’re like “damn”. Good job guys.
It actually looks like a really nice gun. Great job
It's too pretty to be a frankenstein :)
ArtisanTony it's a Lisa from Weird Science
I'll take it anyway!
When gun guys have too much time on their hands. It is an experiment in insanity, and I am fine with that. People looked at me funny when I put a 8-40 x 50 on a Savage MK II, 22lr, but it is crazy fun and I can spot my own shots at 100 yds.
SinsationalMike yeah, their is a lot of haters out their that just don't get it.
Ok I confess. I have a 4-16X scope on a Chiapa .17 Lil Badger. I love it! It`s very accurate too.
I'm seeing a trend.
I think every true gun guy has gone off on some wild pursuit at some point or another. Big scope where its "not needed", some custom one off project like this (usually a Mauser or Mosin action). Yep we've all been there at some point.
Fun place to head off to though.
And I have a 3-9x 40mm scope on my marlin 39a lever action .22 😂
That rifle turned out awesome! Great project gun for sure!
Cheers, ASC!
I still have the Mosin nagant with the UK59 barrel you and Ray built for me a few years back. I say we have a shoot off.
I remember this when it had the quadrail on it at Moss.
Probably the coolest gun you have taken to the range yet!
"She's a little ugly, a little devil may care" What do you meeeean? That beautiful Bluegrass stock and this awesome thicc barrel AND a suppressor! Holy smokes that's an awesome gun
Great video!
DrGraypFroot
That thing is not ugly, it is beautiful!
I really enjoy watching projects like this!
My brother has a mosin Frankenstein very similar to that
UGLY ? Heck No, I Think she's quiet beautiful. Excellent Job. Wished I had one like that.
d graham I was thinking the same thing man
Gotta love the Zeiss Scope! :)
Ray done GOOD!
I really like The M91/30... It is one of my favorite Milsurps... I had a 1943 all numbers matching M91/30... I had to part with it some time back... Looking to pick up a new M91/30....
that thing is a work of art!
This rifle looks awesome!!!!! It shoots great to me! Heck it’s just for fun but it gets the job done as well! Have a great day man. Thank you for what you do!
It's videos like this that remind me why I love your channel..keep up the good work guys
Think I'm in love with this rifle 💘
Hell yeah! Ballistics gel test on this load
Wish i had that gun!
Thomas Di Marco build one. You could be all in with a McGowen Precision barrel, custom stock, scope mount, bolt handle, and a good optic and match rings for less than $2,000.
I built mine for like 1100 with a McGowen, timney, archangel, and rock solid scope mount.
Coolest mosin ever. That and the stubby silenced one he made.
175 - 182 grain 1:9 - 1:9.5 twist 26"- 27" barrel. Mosin will do sub MOA with the right barrel, match trigger, pillar and glass bed. Laminate stock with a thicker pistol grip. Mosin magazine is excellent. Does not need to be changed out.
Love me some crazy Mosins
I just love 7.62x54r
Very nice rifle! Check that 203 grain stuff. I've been told it's a little on the slim side at around .309 instead of .312 or so. Also, the Winchester white box 180 grain ammo was made by S&B, so the ammo is still out there, but the box won't say Winchester.
Yeah when he said 1" to 1.5" I was expecting 0.5", I reckon ammunition choice would help.
Love your long distance shooting videos for some reason. (Maybe I have range envy!) Also, glad to see a gun channel with actually shooting and not just video after video of verbal diarrhea.
I like the close up shots of the targets when you guys switched to 600yds.
Ungly erik bro thats one of the most amazing mosin set ups i have seen 110% epic rifle right there well done to you and chad love it 😎
Y'all should do an M1 Garand @600yrds. Or even take it to the shorter ranges too! Very nice build btw! One of a kind
My mosin will shoot 5 rounds inside of a dime at 100 yards all day long with the modifications I have done plus it makes a HUGE difference with match handloads. These are also with STEEL casings that I reloaded after they have been made to reload them with boxer primers.
That is the best looking modernized mosin i have ever seen. thumbs up for this one
Like that scope mount, better that the scout mount I have now. I remember you said years ago that the S&B 175 gr match was the best commercial load.
*NYET, RIFLE WAS FINE*
n at = нет
Every video I watch, i want a Mosin more and more!!!
I sent my Mosin 91/30action as well, to Coyote Creek Armory in Kentucky to have my stock milled and heavy barrel properly installed. I to have the same Bolt Handle and Scope mount. I am running a Vortex Viper LD 6-24x50mm with a Timney Trigger
You just created a pure breed!
That gun is like bringing a bag of chips to church. Everybody looks at you weird but deep down they want those chips
What a lovely project gun. Nice work guys.
I think that firearm is absolutely gorgeous.
Chad is always throwing shade at Eric lol
boostdog they both do it lmao
I knew you'd be jacked when I read the title. God you love those commy rifles. lol Bluegrass represent also. love it.
As always I learn something nre with every video. Thank you for the effort
First miss at the beginning of the video, looks like the round might have clipped that low hanging tree branch. Just throwin it out there! LOVE these videos guys thanks for keeping em coming. Frankenstein long range rifle for the win!
I love my Timney trigger on my Mosin.
Hey Eric what is the maximum accuracy potential of the 7.62x54R round? Your custom rifle isn't bad at all, but got me wondering how much better the round can perform. Oh and I think it is a great looking rifle personally.
Nothing against the rifle, it's beautiful, but at what point does it stop being a Mosin when you customize it?
It's not what you think . When you change the action.
If you have a car and change every part exept the motor. What car is it then?
J. Smith bad analogy. I can drop a GM 572 crate engine in a Ferrari and it's still a Ferrari. The frame is the part that determines the car, just like here the frame (receiver) determines what kind of gun it is.
Patrick Hoffmann the frame, yes. But it is what you run throug a gun. So lets say you have no frame (on a gun) just barrel and what it needs to fire. What is it then? It depends on the core. Imagine to replace the Ferrari engine with something very weak. Could you still call it a Ferrari when you can't even drive 100km/h?
J. Smith it doesn't matter if I put a sewing machine motor in it, it's still a Ferrari
Would love to see the same test done but without the can on it. I believe that cans greatly amplify the aerodynamic inconsistencies of ammo and those create larger group sizes and more flyers.
What a coincidence. I seen a stock very very similar at a store here in KY today. Matter of fact it’s identical other than the adjustable cheek piece.
Typical sticky Mosin Bolt. I love the gun. PS: Ray did some work on my M1 Carbine...he’s a very good gunsmith. 👍.
Its not sticky lol You just gotta put a mustard on your cycle
Fugly? That rifle is drop dead gorgeous.
It's so cute how much Eric loves Mosins 😂😂😂
I do to😂 Cheap ammo cheap parts... got my first 2 for $50 and $65 lol
Awesome Build. Ten thumbs up 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice weapon (it is not ugly, in fact I like it! Sure the stock could be sturdier IMHO (it is a milsurp after all and sporterizing it isn't my thing, but you really didn't with everything else, hell most WW2 Soldiers would probably have loved that better barrel (and better accuracy!) and that optic! If anything: It is more durable now - with the exception of that stock! Also: Why go with wood? I would love a sythetic stock!)
I would also love detachable box-mags :) (internal mags? Fine, as long as you can use stripper clips, but you can't with an optic on this (unless you wold offset it to the side, which isn't that great either!)
Yeeeeahh! Brown Bear is what my Mosin likes best! I keep the 203g Soft Point on hand always!
I think it looks good, and I like the snug fit in the chamber.
Nice work Ray! She’s a beaut!
That stock is awesome!
like seeing sporters and budget rifles
Eric just seeing this on 2/8/24. That Mosin is a Chunky girl . Remember its your rifle your money . Have fun with it.
You'll find some really hurt rifles that you can bring back to life on gunbroker..sometimes ebay if someone is foolish enough.
Send it Eric:))) Man of many talents. Hugs from Poland.
Hey, call it franken-gun all you want, I think it looks great. Real rugged, sturdy lookin' rifle.
This is a thing of BEAUTY
That rifle is BEAUTIFUL!
J&G Sales still has Winchester 180 gr fmj on their website as well as S&B.
Thought it was a bergara HMR when I looked at the thumbnail. You guys should take a look at that gun I hear it is one of the best in the price range.
How long have you had "Fugly" on the extractor? Made me laugh so hard I almost spewed coffee on my screen. It's not for me, but I love seeing someone have a unique project gun that excites them work out. You have to give credit where credit is due. Good thinking Eric, and solid work from Ray as always. Keep up the good work!!
I actually just bought 3 boxes of Winchester 180 grain soft point went hunting with my Mosin going again tomorrow with that round killed a deer with it last year they were $29 a box so kind of expensive but man it puts them down
Eric needs to open a Made in USA Mosin Nagant manufacturing facility and create modern mosins based on the 91/30.
Cool build. I am beyond interested in the K31 Sporter!
Lmao! I love the jack sparrow hands
That gun is so awesome and is truly beautiful
It's like hotrodding a Pinto... insane, questionable and certainly not economical.... but dang if it ain't got personality!
I bet this rifle would should great with some Sierra SMK handloads. Ive always wanted to try their .311 SMKs.
That gun is awesome Erik! I love it!
I enjoy your mosin videos. Good work guys!
I've got to find a local smith to put my uk59 barrel on my spare mosin...
Bought the barrel back when Classic firearms still had their old site and had a bunch of them pre-cut and threaded for mosin receivers. Still haven't put everything together.
Nice rifle! Nice video
That is not a Frankengun. That is a beautiful baby born of TLC and creativeness!
Reminds me of some of the builds we saw coming out of Syria
Honestly I don't think it's ugly at all. That is a b-e-a-utiful mosin.
Would love to see that after load work up. Really like the Mosin videos Eric. Thanks
Nice rifle....Mah jong Eric, Mah Jong!
That is just a beautiful rifle in my eyes.
ballistic gel tests would be SWEET!
i can really only get PPU in my area.....boat tail soft point 150s (i think i can get 180s, but less often in stock than the 150s....)
stuff still packs a punch..... id say its a little more powerful than my 308.....longer barrel i think
my 308 is kinda short...handy gun however
LOT more handier than a 91/30!
that looks like a really fine hunting rifle.
That sucker is a lot like my heavy barreled Mosin. Seems like everyone hates you when you do it though. That and when your Mosin outshoots their gun.
I remember seeing this thing as just a barreled action a long time ago earlier on the channel
Nice rifle! I like watching your channel. Gives me ideas for upgrading my mosin. Thanks for the info.
Is the most beautifull gun that i ever seen!!
