I am a train engineer guys. We don't make noise to annoy you. Every sound a train makes has meaning. We are required under severe penalty to make certain noises at crossings and more. It is not our intention to annoy you. Just doing what we can to warn you that we have a machine that takes up to a mile to stop. See an attractive soccer Mom with a mini van full of kids go under the nose of a train at 60 mph and you will know what we deal with. You never get over it. Love your channel Eric and I'm a big fan. That said don't hate on that guy doing his job. Trains and guns are similar. Once set in motion you can't take it back.
Aaron Dinsmore same thing driving a semi. People think were slow, annoying, and just in the way. Tailgating, flipping us off, brake checking. I've seen bad wrecks. It's a job.
Turkish capture? I think you mean Ottoman Empire. And also, the Germans and the Ottoman Empire where allied during WW1. Im sure most gew 98s where sold to them by the Germans.
Those rear sights should be calibrated for the 154 grain load. That was the rifle load during WW1. The 198 grain load was introduced very late in the war for machine guns and was standardized for both in 1935 with the adoption of the K98k.
This is because people don't realize that guns are just the top of the iceberg. Are guns dangerous? Yes. But if the US government would do more for gun education instead of gun regulation their would be much less victims. Because Americans might be not the most intelligent but they aren't evil maniacs. Most deaths are due to accidents and not due to homicides. Noone wants to forbid cars through they cause more deaths. But there are things like car driving licenses to prevent a 14 year old from driving.

I had to re-barrel my 1912 and 1914 Gewehr 98's with 1918 barrels that had been brought home by my great uncle from Germany after he was finished with occupation duty. i NEVER GOT A STRAIGHT ANSWER HOW HE MANAGED TO BRING OVER TWO DOZEN BARREL ASSEMBLIES AND 12 GEWEHR 98's BACK HOME.
I have no idea what happened to my great uncle's guns and stuff after I left for Vietnam in 1967. He died in 1970 while I was still in Vietnam. No one in the family knew any thing about his guns and stuff. When I was reported as KIA my mother sold off about half of my guns before she found out that I wasn't dead, after all.
REED POND oh wow. Shame about the guns but I’m not surprised she sold them, the reaction would be to die for when she was told you were dead but then just came back.
I called home from Vietnam to tell her that reports of my death were greatly in error!!! As soon as Mom heard my voice; I heard her tell someone that none of the guns were for sale, any longer...
The receivers and bolts on those weren't blued when they would have entered service in WW1. Chads rifle is what they would look like when they were new.
I love Chads callback to Erics early "Goo 98" reference. Funny. I'd love to go down and hang out with these fellas, so much gun knowledge, respectful and cool.
You also need to do a Gew 98M with the tangent rear sight instead of the Lange Vizier rear. Also a Gew 88 would be fairly neat, maybe an 88/05. There are so many surplus rifles that would be cool to see shot at 600 yards. Awesome videos, please keep them coming.
The standard Garand qualification course went out to 500 yards. (And probably the '03 course that went before it.) But a big target - from memory, the bull may have been about the size of your gong or slightly bigger. (Been a few years since Coast Guard boot camp in 1970. The Coast Guard used the Garand until late 1970 or early 1971.)
Really enjoyed this video, I used to shoot one that my uncle bought surplus back in the 80s. I never tried anything longer than 150 yards, but I was 13-14 years old and loved shooting that gun. I was amazed when he told me when it was made. It was every bit as accurate with iron sights as the modern rifles I had shot.
I love these 600 yard videos, keep them coming! I would love to see a revisit to the 1860 Henry with full powered 44-40 black powder loads (or equivalent) instead of the anemic cowboy loads. Edit to add: Maybe it would be good to swap that target out with a man-sized silhouette target. At 600 yards, I don't think anyone would judge.
*This weapon we call in Iraq Brno and is considered the eighth highest weapon in the history of mankind and is present frequently in the Iraqi tribes, we consider it an ancient heritage*

Hagen exactly sometimes it is just the necessary evil. You should be proud of defending your country but not of the amount of bodies you dropped while doing it. Old men start wars and young men fight and die. The guys you kill in war would most likely be back home with their families if they could.
Favorite line .... Eric on Chad after an adjustment and following shot: "you might as well go ahead and split the difference cause now your about .... 30 feet low"
At 9:10, he shoots and it looks like there's 2 rounds that hit almost the same spot, you can see paint dissappear and then there's the main round that hits, I've never seen that before
Personally I enjoyed when these longer range shots weren't filmed too close to the target so you can actually the projectile fly down range. Anyone else agree? Great video as always though!
"Let's go out to the lobby, let's go out to the lobby, let's go out to the lobby and get ourselves a treat!" That's how the intermission song goes at the theater.

Wish i could buy one here in germany. My great grandfather shoot one of these in ww1 in the 79 infantry regiment. He survived from 1915 to 1918 all operations his regiment was involved in.
There's a weird effect for the shot at 9:10 . A couple thousandths of a second before the bullet hits, a smaller hit appears ahead of the round on the gong. What is that?
Hey, Eric. Big fan of the Channel and your vids. Would love to see some black powder muzzle loading hunting or even just shooting vids if you would be interested in that kind of thing. Thanks for the great content as always. Cheers! :)
I have a Mauser in the worst condition ever rust everywhere, almost no rifling, somehow still shoots (can’t hit anything due to nonexistent rifling)extremely historically interesting.
These are some of my favorite videos that you guy produce along with the "How Far" videos. I would love to see you guy take rifle cambered in a 17hmr and really take it to its limitations. I would do so my self, but I live in West Virginia and it is quite difficult to find a area that allow you to shoot over 300 yards. I really enjoy your guys channels it fun to watch and often helpful, thanks for all the hard work.
I love trains so much and that train in this video was funny when you guys started to talk about it man by the way love the video's keep up the good work

Lol we know that don’t need to defend
Country CANNOT operate without ya! Love the RR!
I wouldn't mourn anyone stupid enough to stop on the tracks. Darwin Award, mailed UPS Ground to the Cemetery.
nothing like running over a hot soccer mom with a train
that's a mighty long way with irons on a target that small. Good shooting
Turkish capture? I think you mean Ottoman Empire. And also, the Germans and the Ottoman Empire where allied during WW1. Im sure most gew 98s where sold to them by the Germans.
@Noah Graham Right, Turkish yes, but not a capture by any means. War aid from Germany.
Wheel lock musket line at 600 yards please
Smoothbore I assume? not gonna hit the side of a barn at 600
@@fakenews6133 do you know what a joke is?
Alright, we totally need a Lee-Enfield at 600 Yards now.
Heck yes! Great suggestion!
I have one, but i'm not that good of a shot.
I agree they should do one with the lee enfield no1 mk3 and no4 rifles
303 Very bad cardrige for reloading but Nice précision
The .303 is underwhelming, compared to 8mm mauser and 30-06
that supersonic crack is so beautiful
Yes i love it. Its my favorite sound

Can one source or otherwise make these?
Last time I was this early Republicans actually wanted to preserve the very few gun rights we have left
This is because people don't realize that guns are just the top of the iceberg.

Did you know magazines are rate increasing devices?
everyone knows the 30 round pmags upgrade your rifle to 1250 rounds per minute
This is why H.R. 3999 is such a threat. They could and would try to so a 30 round mag is. lol
Pretty much all firearms technology has been to put more rounds down range in a shorter time period. Isn't open ended legislation wonderful?
Oh it's just fabulous! (sarcasm)
Same with stripper clips
Probably my favorite series of videos you guys produce. Love the old mill surps. 100 year old guns getting it done.
The receivers and bolts on those weren't blued when they would have entered service in WW1. Chads rifle is what they would look like when they were new.
Coreect

"Nonsense we can cast for it" Eric your dedication is literally my guide for navigating the world of guns.
I still remember the old video where they called it a Goo98... It's a great rifle and really still performs.
Short for Gewehr is Gew....Try to read it.
600 yards, iron sights, one hundred year old rifle.......sweet shooting.
wow that is a WOBBLY bench!

Hell yeah! I wanted to see the Goo 98 in action again for a long time...
"Ride that roller coaster right on home to victory." Is one of the most poetically odd phrases I've ever heard on a RUclips video.
G98... HELL YES! I loved your 1st one from a few years ago.

I love the 600 yards surplus videos.
Also I would love to see a SMLE or a 1903
Guns are like women, the best looking isn't always the best...
But it sure as hell don't hurt ;P
ytown4 you’re a wise man
Except that in this case it is...
This one is neither good looking or the best.
@@baobo67 in my opinion only the Swiss rifles from that Era were better guns...
Ahhhh...great to see your videos like this. Relaxing, informative, and fun. Wishing you continued success!

probably the Persian Mausers.

It is great to see You guys having that much fun. Great. Please keep doing that and please keep making these videos. Thanks.
The Gewehr 98 is one of my top 5 favorite rifles.
Your 600 yard surplus series is one of my favorite series on You Tube. Keep it up, and please do both the Enfield No.1 Mk3, and the No.4
That looks like fun to shoot.
I just learned yesterday that my friend has a good quality mosin
Personally I enjoyed when these longer range shots weren't filmed too close to the target so you can actually the projectile fly down range. Anyone else agree? Great video as always though!
That bullet velocity is incredible !
Eric, you're a great shooter and an exceptional spotter.

Love the Mauser stuff keep it up
One of my favorite military surplus rifles out

What about the 03a3 at 600 which would be pretty cool, as well as reloading a nice gallary load for the 03a3.
This is the best segment on distance shooting milsurps
Great video guys, love the banter looks like you had a good day at the range 👍👍
Great shooting with a great rifle ! Bravo 👏
Pancy Nelosi disapproves of this!!
you guys should place some wind flags out there
Wish i could buy one here in germany. My great grandfather shoot one of these in ww1 in the 79 infantry regiment. He survived from 1915 to 1918 all operations his regiment was involved in.
Those SBs on the target cam are awesome
How about a good ole standard M1A / M14 out to 600?
What is going on with the shot @ 9:10? 2 objects strike the gong. 1 before the other, slightly high and left, but touching each other close
Always loved this rifle, damn good fun
Get the Garand out there.
Great Idea!
Dont expect it to do better ;)
MrChristoffer5700 True. The G98 will slay a Garand in the accuracy department. I do think the Garand has superior sights, however.
Erm the garand will lose if the barrel is trash.
Andrew If
Thanks guys. I love your mil surp videos!
Almost 100 year old rifle, consistent as heck.
There's a weird effect for the shot at 9:10 . A couple thousandths of a second before the bullet hits, a smaller hit appears ahead of the round on the gong. What is that?
Magnifico vídeo de este arma saludos desde España.
I love this... 600 yard videos are great. Can you show the whole tower next time? How high it is, and how it´s built?
Hey, Eric. Big fan of the Channel and your vids. Would love to see some black powder muzzle loading hunting or even just shooting vids if you would be interested in that kind of thing.
Thanks for the great content as always.
Cheers! :)
They said they were going to try to do a video on hunting with the SilencerCo Maxim 50
My favorite bolt action rifle of all time.
Lotta respect for old mil-surp rifles.
Hell, with this spotter you ain't gonna hit nothing...he called 80% of them wrong...better to not have a spotter...he's fired!
Thats awesome boys.. You can see E's heart beat moving the end of the berrel about the 6th shot.. cool. :)
I have a Mauser in the worst condition ever rust everywhere, almost no rifling, somehow still shoots (can’t hit anything due to nonexistent rifling)extremely historically interesting.

wow, thats some great shooting skills.
i probably couldnt even see the target at 600 yds without a scope.
I have never read al comments in 30sec!
greetings from Sweden!
So early that 360p is the only option :(
Great vid. Wish I could find one of these in canada, rare for some reason. I'll have to stick with the K98k til then.
If you guys like the old Mauser guns you would LOVE there new ones. I got a Mauser m12 .300 win mag its a SWEET shooter 😎
nathancombs11 Do the new ones still take stripper clips?
Eric, you need to make up some hand loads for your 98's...
great shots, wish I was steady enough
You can practically see the outline of the gong in the dirt, lol
As I'm watching, all I can see is those trees blowing in the wind in the background. Good shooting in tough conditions.
Now we need a M1 Garand and some Lee Enfields from the old MLEs to the No.4 at 600 yards
Dude, how can you just yank that 2 stage trigger like that and still shoot accurately!? That's crazy!!
SMLE 600 yards!!!! You know we want it!
I want a g98 so bad they just look so good
I hunt with a K 98 that has been reworked and scoped, barrel seems to be a bit heavier than one I picked up a few years ago.
Stop using those evil stripper clips. Don't you know that a stripper clip is a rate increasing assault device?
Cameron Norton those evil assault clips are an assault weapon that shoot 100 rounds a second and are raycisss reeee
Most 1918 Mauser Oberndorf produced Gew. 98s were sent directly to the (faltering) Ottoman Empire as military aid.
Y'alls table needs some stabilizing, don't it? It's wobbling around an awful lot when you lean on it.
Time to grab a hammer, and some nails. Cross brace that damn thing!
You can see the heat distorting the background around the barrel. This thing just got hot.
little help.. is the background camera stand set up on the left side of the line of trajectory or on the right side of the line of trajectory?
That was great about the train 🚂 horn lmao 😂 just a good video lots of laughs
I love trains so much and that train in this video was funny when you guys started to talk about it man by the way love the video's keep up the good work
pretty gun, thanks for the video!
I have access to buying a k98 with heavily pitted barrel band and missing capture screws but for half price I have access to multiple m48 and m48a in better condition. Which would you choose?
G Lewis my M48a is a tack driver. Best bolt gun I own.
kalishnakova86 thanks for the reply. That's the way I was leaning. M48 48a or a vz24 if I can find it
Good day at the range. Way better than I could do, I'm sure.

That's a sweet Rifle Eric!
Where I live I hear the train, the airport and the highway. Sometimes a mile long train goes by at 11pm or later tooting his horn.
That horizontal fence post even with the gun in the background! Come on guys!
See that is what I call fun.
