    the m14 is a hell of a rilfe. I carried one in the marine corp. for 5 years. they are a little heavy caring them threw the jungle of Viet Nam, but it never failed me in the 5 years I carried it. you don't need a scope on them as the iron sights are accurate as all hell. welcome home Eric, and thank you for serving!

    the M1a is hands down my favorite rifle. I can live without an AK and ARs but M1A is king of them all in my eyes.

      It's basically just an upgraded M1 Garand, which was and still is an incredibly good rifle. Brilliant design. I love the M14/M1A. Only problem with it is weight, of course. It would not be my first choice in a SHTF situation if I needed to be mobile.

    • @SkintSNIPER262
      @SkintSNIPER262 6 лет назад

      fakecubed What would your first choice be? Because I'm trying to sort out what rifle(s) and caliber(s) to have and train with for SHTF.

    • @JarrodES13
      @JarrodES13 4 года назад

      @@fakecubed It depends - my Century Arms VSKA is only a touch of a pound lighter than my M1A with the synthetic stock. Granted, the AR's are usually king in this department, but get weighed down with all the extra gear. A Scout Squad, SOCOM, or 18" variant with synthetic stock would be the best of all worlds.

    • @GeorgiaBoy1961
      @GeorgiaBoy1961 3 года назад

      @@fakecubed - A certain amount of weight in a (battle) rifle is your friend, in terms of soaking up recoil and helping you make a good shot without beating your shoulder into hamburger. If you've ever used a CETME or G3, which shoots the same cartridge, you know what is meant by that! The M1A/M14 is in some respects an updated Garand, but it has some new features which really improve the design. In its military guise as the M14, some versions were select-fire. It fed from 20-round magazines instead of using en-bloc clips, and since it wasn't top-eject like an M-1, any optic mounted could be over the bore and not offset as on an M-1. The gas system is patented, and self-adjusting, requiring no manual dialing or adjustment as on an FN FAL, for example. It uses a gas-expansion cutoff system which works wonderfully. And of course, the newer rifle shoots 7.62x52 NATO, which is a short-action cartridge somewhat smaller and lighter than the 30-06, yet plenty powerful for military or other use.
      However, if the weight is an issue, why not consider one of the newer shorter-barreled designs now being offered by various manufacturers? Bula Defense offers a 20-inch paratrooper version (two inches shorter than the stock 22" tube), and there are also 18 and 16-inch models from Springfield Armory and other makers. The Scout-Squad model which is eighteen inches, seems very light and handy, and still has an eighteen inch tube, which is ample for most uses.

    When I was a kid, my dad bought a brand new M1A. The first round he shot out of the barrel was at the Winchester Gun Range (different name now) in Dallas, TX, on their 500 yard range on the far west side of the property (they no longer have a 500 yard range). He put a 1" florescent yellow sticker center chest of his silhouette target. First round was on the yellow sticker, just slightly off center at 500 yards. He only used open sights. It was an M1A Standard (not even sure they called it the Standard back then), and the only option he had was a leather sling, and if you know the gun and its history, you know the leather sling he had. That was the best shot I've ever seen anyone make in my whole life.

    The m-14 is my favorite rifle. In basic back in 1966 we had to shoot out to 400 yards with the iron sites. My 68 year old eyes are no longer that good. In Korea we qualified at a range the Japanese built during WW II a neat experience. In Vietnam I had an M-2 Carbine, then an M-16A2 and an M-60. I want to get a M1A1 to complete my collection of rifles I carried in the service. Of course the M-60 is out of the question. Love your channel and look forward to the next video. Keep up the good work.

  • @goodgoat6019
    @goodgoat6019 8 лет назад +1

    The M14 was the infantry standard in 1968 and the qualification targets were silhouette type with the longest at 400 meters. Our open sights were set at 275 meters and the front blade covered the entire 400 m target as you had to aim above it to hit it. I loved that rifle but not in full auto. The last week in infantry we familiarized with the M16 which felt like a toy in comparison. Ended up going to Germany and changed from a 11C20 to a 11E20, no more rifles but a 1911 and M3. Still love the M14 / M1A platform.

      I personal shoot an M14 EBR is it roughly the same. The EBR new about 1.2 MOA but with match ammo and good optic can be sub MOA. I can hold about .93in groups at 100yds with it and can stay within MOA out to 700yds.

    Nice video! FYI: the Blackfeather RS enhances accuracy like the Sage, but without the added bulk & weight... tension bedding and a proprietary adjustable op rod guide that is secured to the chassis. The RS can be configured with a pistol grip and high butt stock adapter, or more traditionally with a Mossberg 500 series shotgun butt stock. I shot my first suppressed M14 back in 2006, and continue to use a Smith Enterprise Wind Talker can today. 'MK14 Mod 0 type SEI - Suppressed - M14EBR.US'

Eventually I’ll trade out my older Redfield 3-9 X 40 (an earlier traditional Vietnam TYPE set-up) for the same I imagine...after all, it’s worth it. As for the scope MOUNT, I went with the Sadlak ‘Airborne’, STEEL mount.. absolutely fantastic quality & tolerances. Incidentally, mine is ‘just’ the Standard model and UNBELIEVABLY accurate...so I’m happy.

    I wish someone would make a direct thread suppressor for the unique threads on the M1A. I want one for my super match.

    • @dougallen7890
      @dougallen7890 9 лет назад

      +762x35mm The M21 is just a version of the M1A that Springfield makes, mainly the stock.

      +762x35mm Have never found one yet. Never saw them used when I was in service. Some companies have made adapters for their suppressors to fit the M1A but not a direct thread.

      Smith Enterprise makes a thread adapter.

    I just picked up a M1a Loaded with the Walnut stock, I also bought the Sadlak NM Spring Guide and I am also going to add the Sadlak Ti Nitride Piston. I won't be adding a scope, it will be a iron sights only rifle, and I will complete in some local matches at 600 and 1,00p yard matches once I find the right load and get shim the gas system

    Ahhh. The M14. I owned a 1963 TRW M14. Glassbedded and with NM sights. It was a darn accurate rifle. Just don't take it apart. I disabled it once a match season. It's zero was way of when the rifle was put together. I used Army range pick IMI 7,62 cases from the FN MAG with 41 grains Vitha N135 with a Sierra MK 168 grain HPBT. And I won a 600 yards Bisley style match with it. Still love this rifle.

    I have had mine for 20 years.
    It is an excellent piece. It's different than a plug and play AR, with these you have to actually tune them, real gunsmithing. If I bought another I'd probably buy a Fulton Armory dual lug receiver and go from there.

    I love my M1A loaded I purchased around 15 + years ago. I would take it to the range and shoot every week ,back when you could get a case of 1000 Portuguese military ammo from Sportsmen Guide for around 150.00. I got pretty good with it loved it so much I bought a Scout & Socom . But my M1A is my favorite.

    Have a recommended resource on the care and feeding of an M1A? I’ve been told they can be a bit finicky and maintenance intensive.

    Love me a DMR rifle. M1A/14 will always hold a special place in my heart. Such a beautiful rifle.
    12" 762N Galil ACE with a Primary Arms Plat 1-8x Griffin MIL has however taken over as my all rounder, and im falling in love with it. .8moa with FGMM / 1.3 with WPA. Been very impressed so far. Just need a suppressor now.
    Thanks for the vid. Think your rifle looks excellent.
