    Thank you so much Big Sam! I bought a PU sniper rifle about 8 years ago. It was made at the izhevsk factory in 1943. The seller was very trust worthy, I’ve dealt with him before, but I wasn’t able to verify if it was a true sniper rifle. The price was too good to pass up so I took a gamble on it. After watching this video, I was finally able to confirm that it is in fact a true PU sniper rifle. Your knowledge on Mosin Nagant rifles is incredible. Again, I want to say thank you and keep the content coming!

      I had a similar issue in 2013. The gun store owner told me outright that he wasn't sure if it was authentic and didn't want to take a magnifying glass to it. He sold me the rifle for 400 and later I was able to confirm its proof marks as a PU sniper from the same factory and year as yours.

      hello I am A veteran Iraqi army I was invited by a friend how has a farm and both a Mosin Nagant and Mauser 8mm I was a curios which is more powerful and did a single shot from each to a cement wall which made of fully cement of blocks .. the surprise was Mosin went throw the block while the 8 mm did not

      @user-hg8ey7gb2z the mosin is just one of those rifles. Once you get one, you never want to have none. The first gun I bought in the marines was a pu sniper. Not the fanciest gun in the safe but I'll never get rid of it.

    What I learned, I was under impression that they didn't produce sniper grade rifles and then less accurate barrels for shits and giggles, what they did was through shooting the rifles when they came across one that was inherently more accurate they would mark it and some would be equipped with optic and become the PU sniper Mosin Nagant.

    Mines a Tula rifle with the C H that was never drilled for a scope. She shoots well. I always figured they never drilled it because they moved the Tula factory that year.
    I put in a smooth Finnish trigger sear and a fine blade target front sight. Oiled rags wrapped around barrel under front barrel band.

    Mine was drilled for scope and then holes were filled at arsenal. Its a 43 iz. It was in cosmoline and I cleaned it up. Shell case neck stuck in the chamber carefully removed that then took hoppes 9 and cleaned out a lot of green copper fouling. It’s got ruff machining but lemme tell you it’s a tack driver. Extremely accurate.

    I seem to have the 1943 accuracy rifle, Izhevsk. It's in quite nice condition with a beautiful stock, all matching parts, got it for a $500 trade. The price for these rifles have been going up quite a bit lately. Seen some worse condition mosins go for over $700 at another shop.

    I have a 1928 Izhesvk with the C in O, OO markings and K marks. It was not complete when I got it. It was pretty much barrel, receiver only, barrel cut down to 20" with what appears to be a US M1903 front sight spot welded on.

    1942 Tula with sniper markings? except it's drilled for a PE scope base?
    My wife got it from some old guy she met at the gun shop for $300 when picking up her SKS. He bought it ages ago and basically left it in his safe. No import markings. Hadn't been bubba'd or even fired since import as the bore and chamber and bolt assembly was coated shut with cosmeline. Has a bent bolt, all numbers matching. Trying to figure out more about it.

    Hey there. Great information you provide in your videos. Thank you. I picked up an Tula Ex-dragoon model before the pandemic madness in the firearm market. It has the screwed in escutcheons, but it also has the forward “thumb” scoop by the barrel band that is associated with post war stocks. Did they re-use the escutcheons or is this strange?

    • @BigSamMosinMuseum
      @BigSamMosinMuseum  2 года назад +1

      Hi Craig, it sounds like you may have a Tula stock made from 1939-1942. In that time they were producing stocks that featured both screwed in escutcheons, as well as the forward thumb scoop

    How would a Finnish VKT manufactured M91 barrel labelled "Poulustuslatos" with a "D" stamped in the middle, making the middle "u" look like an "o" ... other markings include "VKT" of course, "1941" and "SA" on the side. The barrel has a beautiful target crown, and is a 30 some inch long M91 barrel, bedded into a very nice Finnish wooden stock, made of two tightly fitted pieces of wood. Would this barrel be considered as accurate as a "C N" Russian barrel?

    Do the Arc Angel stocks increase accuracy or does it just help prevent wandering zero?

    • @lordserpentine8246
      @lordserpentine8246 2 года назад +3

      Id say on average they lower the accuracy of a normal mosin. The normal stock might pinch the barrel in some places but it supports almost the whole barrel. The ArchAngel stocks dont support said barrel at all and alot of mosins dont do with them group and accuracy wise.

    So I have two “garbage rods”. One is a 1933 Ishevsk and the other is a 1943 Tula. The Tula has seen some action, and I bought it when I was 18 from a store in Virginia Beach for $40. The other was purchased for $130 closer to home. Both were imported by Century Arms. The ‘43 Tula is the epitome of “garbage rod”. Depending on the ammo used you may need a rubber mallet to beat the bolt open after firing. Accuracy is non-existent and the finish is something resembling parkerizing, but it’s shiny. The 1933 Ishevsk is coated (painted?) black and I did some modifications. I replaced the front sight assembly with an after market elevation adjustable unit, pillar bedded the action and cork bedded the barrel channel. It shoots great, and the only reason I messed with it so much was that when I bought it I knew it had potential. I guess my question is this: how much better are pre-war vs. intra-war Mosin 91/30 rifles? Also, why do all Mosins shoot so blasted high at 100 yards with the 148 grain copper washed steel case stuff?

    I’m a month late, but I’m curious.
    Turns out I have one of these rifles. Ishevsk made, 1942, markings as you describe in all the right places.
    As I understand it, these rifles were probably supposed to be sniper rifles, but producing scopes and optics isn’t easily done during war time when the enemy is at the gates…
    Ahem. Sorry.
    So, serious question. How much of a crime would it be to take one of these rifles and convert them to a sniper rifle? Accumounts makes some very good reproduction scopes and mounts, faithful to the original designs but made better. Would one be ruining a historic piece?
    I’ve been tempted to mount a scope on my Mosin for years but drilling and tapping is a permanent change to a rifle I’m really fond of, and it’s the only Mosin I own. (It was also the first firearm I ever owned.)
    What are your thoughts?

      Howdy JR! Thanks for sharing some info on your really neat rifle! I would keep the rifle the way it is, and instead buy an ex-sniper and covert that one. Then, you will be able to keep your rifle original, while having both the infantry and sniper variants!

    I'll figure it out when I can get enough silver shekels to have my 91/30 rebarreled with a replacement Mosin barrel. For some reason, the company that imported the barrels cut the receiver in half and left the barrel in place. The Mosin to be rebarreled has a very smooth and light trigger pull and cycles quite smoothly. It's just that the barrel is terribly rusted and pitted.
