It actually seems decent. The 3.6l v6 had timing chain and head gasket problems and the 8 speed was a clunky junker. The 10 speed is a good transmission and the 2.7l seems decent although the pumped in noise is overkill. It seems like Cadillac is learning from past mistakes gradually.

I agree. A mid-level A-class doesn't stand out any more than this mid-level CT4, and I actually think this car looks a little nicer. The interior on the other hand is a little boring (a 2-tone color scheme might help some instead of the plain charcoal/black color in this one).
Yea, seems to forget this is going against the FWD mercs and BMW's which are also cheap feeling inside. But because it's Cadillac, it is highlighted constantly.

Agreed. I'm not really impressed with Tesla at all. The exterior design on their vehicles are awkward and unattractive, crappy interior (as you mentioned), and here in Vegas Tesla is getting kind of "douchey".

"Cadillac is supposed to be the world standard" It's been like 60 years since that era. How many more decades of decline do we need for Cadillac before we give up on that line? On top of that, this car screams to do something slightly different, like go hybrid.
Well don't look to Lexua to carry that torch today. Meanwhile Cadillac has one more refresh of the current ICE vehocles before going BEV. Not many ICE manufacturers can say that today.
@@foam27 Cadillac should be making performance a thing for every powertrain combo. The 2.0E doesn't have that. This is basically destined to be a rental car and it shows in every way.
The CT-4 is a good compact RWD sedan with a strong engine. Cadillac could have given it some more luxury features though. Very interested in the Blackwing version.
I have been hearing the exact same comments about Cadillac my entire adult life: "It's a good car and ALMOST as good as the Germans, but not quite." Despite endless $billions GM has spent on Cadillac, they have yet to get it right. This sad CT4 is merely a restyled ATS with a slightly nicer interior. It's not even an all new car. I don't see who the buyer is for this car. The older buyers won't care about the RWD, and won't like the tiny trunk and rough engine. Younger buyers would want either a German car at this price, or a Tesla.
you should go back and check out the C&D 10BEst list in the years when the CTS and CTS-V sport made it. Then see if your assessment is accurate. You should also check out lighting lap and how the CTS V and ATS V performed vs their peers on a track.
So the Tesla Model 3 has a $20,000 advantage as it costs the same $50,000 price tag with all the nice options, but saves you that much in gasoline over its life. I am a big Cadillac fan, and own a CTS, but economically and from a performance perspective, Tesla Model 3 beats all the ICE competition.
Love it... Cadillac has lowered their bar so this car that's 1" longer than a 3 series, same size as a C class and an inch shorter than an A4 is supposed to compete with the much cheaper and less refined variants from the other manufacturers.
At one point they were saying the ct4 was going to be smaller than the ats and that sounded great, like a 2 series rival. When your small car is bigger than a 3 series, that's bullshit.
I disagree with your styling opinion. Mercedes design has become very bulbous and unattractive in the A class and Do you really the the BMW 2 series grand coupe looks better? I really feel that many automotive journalists are stuck with thinking Caddy is trash. They do deserve it to some extent, but I think they get criticized on things that get overlooked if the car had a German badge. I will say I love your channel and enjoy your reviews! Keep up the great work!
I kind of agree... I think this car looks as good as anything else it competes with, but it's still kind of a letdown when you compare certain aspects to the Germans. At least GM seems to have priced it right.
Sounds like someone who owns a Camry and is looking to validate their purchase, am I off the mark? Why else would anyone ever say "I'd rather have a Camry over X?" No one ever says this about any car. Ever. I've seen dishwashers more exciting than a Camry.
I really don’t get the obsession with giant screens on the dashboard. My car has a 6” screen and it works just fine. The only way to please them is to put up a friggin 32” TV on the dash. Gee whiz!
he is obsessed with LED lights and huge screens. Nothing more is accomplished with a 10" or 12" screen, its just bigger for bragging rights. A 10in screen in this car would be nice, but in a small cabin the 8in isnt unreasonable. Whats funny is many of these "large" screens have narrow profiles with more stretched out aspect ratios....lexus and Genesis are doing this. 12 or 14 in screens that are only 5 in high.
Wow, Sofyan, you must have been in a bad mood when you recorded this video! "These hinges that crush onto your cargo" (what? the hinges have their own compartment), rear leg room less than a Honda Civic (what about the CLA @ 27"?). he should have just passed on the car when Cadillac offered it. The cargo crushing comment was interesting. Also interesting was the comment about the "hard" leather.
I would have to agree with you here. I'm no big fan of Cadillac, but I think the exterior styling and interior design look great and are very class competitive. Normally, I think Sofyan does very objective reviews, but in this case it seemed the Caddy was doomed from the start. The engine sounded fine to me in the video. Maybe in person it is a different experience.
Cadillac is not trying to copy the Germans approach with sedans anymore, they are pricing these well below the German competitors and doing their own thing now. It will be successful and the CT4/CT5 will sell well.
This car is a hot 🔥 mass come on Cadillac I've seen KIA cars look more luxurious than the CT4 . I like the out side but interior needs help Cadillac what are you all doing. Just get a whole new team 🤔
“Premium luxury” package yet you get hardly any standard luxury equipment-no LED headlights, no sunroof, smaller wheels, etc. What does the base package have, manual windows and doors?
That new exterior is amazing! But that interior is just so “GM” so bland and sad for a luxury car :( Where is that over the top luxury old school Cadillac? On the bright side, that horrendous dashboard with the blue lighting and font is gone.
I appreciate Cadillac’s simple design language and layout for their dashboard. BMW, Mercedes, Audi all try and compete for touchscreen controls and it drives me nuts. Simplicity is fantastic. However, the turbo 4 is going to burn oil. It’ll need oil changes more often than recommended I guarantee that.
Huh? It's been like that for years, and it sucks. This is why they're failing.. They're putting cars out for people like you. This is a luxury segment, not Volvo
Francis Herrera how would I know that? I wouldn’t of said it otherwise. And which part are you referencing: the turbo 4 or the simplified design of the dashboard? Clearly, our reviewer stated that Cadillac changed the functionality of the dashboard.
The upcoming Genesis G70 is expected to have a base engine 2.5t with around 300hp and it should be a less expensive and better option. Or get the twin turbo V6 option for around the same price and it also comes with a much better warranty, interior and features.
I think it’s ridiculous they are branding the CT4 as a A3/A Class competitor when it’s the size of a 3 Series/C Class/A4. Let’s be real this is a 3 Series competitor just like the ATS was.
@@Stressless2023 Yes, that might be true, but also irrelevant. I could buy a Toyota Avalon for this PRICE, but that doesn't make it a competitor. This is a "compact luxury sport sedan". Not subcompact.

I think Cadillac is targeting the lower end of the market with a value play via the CT4 and CT5 with the intention of getting people interested in the brand again since sales were so dismal the last few years...with the long term goal of moving back up towards the true premium luxury segment...rumor is that for 2021 they will be making certain key upgrades including full digital gauge cluster (optional), premium leather wrapped steering wheel, super cruise, wireless car play/android auto connection, etc. Personally I hope that the Mercedes-inspired gauges/dash setup in the 2021 Escalade will be put into the sedans
I've always thought that Cadillac represented what Chevy should be. It's not that the Americans can't make decent cars it's that they can't do so as inexpensively as the Japanese. So they sell their halfway decent cars as luxury vehicles. In Japan we call this car a Honda Accord.
Too bad this will probably be another bomb by GM... falling apart in a few years - unlike the classic Cadillac brand, making those cars which was like driving your living room couch down the street in true luxury, shitty mileage, but yet last forever.
MN Mikha the question is why not? We always ask why would they do that when it would actually sell. Brands always have an excuse now when talking about a v8. No wonder cars are selling. I don’t want to have to buy a pickup truck I don’t need in order to get a v8 and I don’t want another crappy turbo 4 cylinder

Dual Volute is not twin scroll. It separates the pulses in a different way and thanks to the design is able to get the divider MUCH closer to the blades. That has the benefit of not allowing the pulses to combine and cause turbulence making for much improved boost response especially at the threshold. The reasoning behind the dual volute is in order to get better exhaust scavenging for better flow and therefore more power efficiency. It is similar to twin scroll but not the same thing. If anyone wants a better idea of how it works check out Engineering Explained he does a great job breaking down this turbo technology.
"Why didn't Cadillac just give me a full-on digital display?" Because GM has a parts bin full of old style gauges that the accountants running the place said must be used up regardless of what the competition does or what the public wants. GM = generally mediocre in all things.
Completely delusional especially when Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Lexus, Acura, Genesis, and Infiniti all use analog gauges. Why is it ok for everyone to save money except for GM? Why is General Motors always trolled when they don’t go the extra mile? I’m convinced GM is held to a higher standard than the rest and I kind of like that. But you guys sound like idiots sometimes.
@@mybro727 Lack of delusion is more to the point, as it would take completely forgetting the last 40 years to not be skeptical about GM. Lack of remembering that at least four of those brands you mentioned didn't even exist 40 years ago, but GM has since lost market share to all of them due to quality, performance, and design shortcomings. Did any on your competitor list require a bailout from their government to remain in business? Another low-water mark for GM. I'll offer you the benefit of doubt because perhaps your memory doesn't go back as far, but GM has earned suspicion and skepticism thru many decades of dubious performance and market share losses due to quality, performance, design, workmanship, engineering, and poor business practices. The only idiots are the guys who squandered market leadership and allowed competition to get the better of them. GM stands at or near the head of that class.
CrustyCurmudgeon I am fully aware of the bailout GM accepted over a decade ago and *paid back* EARLY. What exactly does that have to do with how this 2020 Cadillac CT4 stacks up against it’s competitors today in September of 2020? Absolutely NOTHING. It’s completely irrelevant to the topic here and only a delusional and illogical individual like yourself would argue anything otherwise. Although I’m pretty sure every company I just named has been making cars for at least forty years, it doesn’t matter since that’s not a requirement in order to compete in the industry against more established brands. Have you ever heard of a company called Tesla? I’m gonna give _you_ the benefit of the doubt and assume you haven’t because they certainly haven’t been around for 40 years but it seems they’ve figured out how to incorporate fully digital displays into their vehicles pretty fast...therefore neither Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai/Genesis, Acura, Lexus, Infiniti, Audi, nor any other Cadillac competitor gets to use that excuse if Cadillac doesn’t. You’re delusional, simply put. Are we talking about GM losing market share or are we still talking about why Cadillac didn’t include a fully digital gauge cluster as standard equipment in the new CT4? It’s the same reason Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Audi, Genesis, etc. doesn’t. Furthermore your rant about it being from a GM parts bin is incorrect and void. These are actually brand new gauges that debuted on the 2019 XT4. Are you able to remain on one topic or are you just like every other irrational General Motors troll kicking, screaming, and crying about how they took a bailout that Mercedes-Benz didn’t need from the U.S. government that they’ve since paid back?? Smh get a life
@@mybro727 Ahh yes, personal attacks. When one runs out of debate responses, to the gutter we go! Were you not the one who stated the belief that GM is held to a higher standard than the others? In 2000, they had about 28% of the US market. Now its about 17%. The simple fact is they're following so many other American companies who were once leaders and are now also-rans (Kodak anyone?). And that has everything to do with how this vehicle stacks up vs competitors in the eyes of buyers.
CrustyCurmudgeon Wrong. I was saying I’m convinced GM is held to a higher standard based on the way _you_ people criticize everything they do and don’t do. All the selective criticism with GM compared to many of their rivals. Cadillac’s criticized for not offering a fully digital gauge cluster and accused of playing a parts bin game when these gauges are brand new and aren’t found in any other GM makes outside the Cadillac brand. People like you are just ignorant, don’t know the industry, don’t know the segment nor are you familiar with all the contenders that occupy this space. @@shethjones4494 i think the complaints on cadillacs naming system is that Mercedes n bmw's are based on heritage but Cadillac (and audi too) simply did it to have 'big numbers' which makes no sense. as for the gearbox I've seen other reviewers who despise it and the premise of a gearbox like that just doesn't appeal to me nor will it other buyers.
yoink the new 10 speed is most certainly NOT an “iffy” gearbox.
I like it but the interior needs to be better. After the Escalade and Lyriq, I REFUSE to believe that GM can’t make a luxurious beautiful interior!!!! But in their defense, the CT5 and 4 are probably the last 2 new cadillacs to come with non regular names like the Escalade or Lyriq. But I love the design!
And you would be correct. Cadillac always does dumb shit like this. They'll have a nice exterior, then dumb ass the intetior. It's like they refuse to copy how the Germans do the exterior and interiors well AT THE SAME DAMN TIMEON THE SAME DAMN CAR.

Camaro makes a 4 cyl already
A turbo'd-4 Camero in Cadillac clothes on the alpha trim and a bigger backseat. I see no nothing wrong with this minus the lack of a manual trans.
I leased a Jaguar XE supercharged 6 banger and it was an absolute joy to drive. I feel it's probably the most slept on car; unfortunately they got rid of the 6 cylinder in 2020. 50k MSRP but i knocked off 8k off the price.

I agree. A mid-level A-class doesn't stand out any more than this mid-level CT4, and I actually think this car looks a little nicer. The interior on the other hand is a little boring (a 2-tone color scheme might help some instead of the plain charcoal/black color in this one).

When your small car is bigger than a 3 series, that's bullshit.
it does have smaller cabin space and trunk space tho. lol
Hahahaha so it went backwards 🤣 ATS was a 3 series rival now the CT4 is a 2 series rival ? Only GM 🤣

The Cadillac has more low end torque due to it having a 2.7l engine and it's a rwd instead an awd.
At least GM seems to have priced it right.

he is obsessed with LED lights and huge screens.

All I did was raise valid examples of why anyone might be critical of them, and how they've run their business vs competitors that have and keep taking their market share.
This has absolutely nothing to do with a bailout that took place back in 2008. People like you are just ignorant, don’t know the industry, don’t know the segment nor are you familiar with all the contenders that occupy this space. You’re trolling Cadillac because you’re upset with GM? You got a “2008 bailout” chocolate chip on your shoulder, it’s null & void, and I’m bored with it so Good day.
I think the car is great for what role it's supposed to fill, which is an entry to the caddy family at a lower price range. It missing a few bells and whistles here and there should be expected for what it is overall the great looking car, fast and clean interior.
I enjoy watching your videos but as i have watched more it just seems clear that you seem to have a bias to against American cars. You never completely hate them, but you have a very negative tone towards them. For instance to say that this is not a handsome car but the A class is, is just funny. The A class exterior is not attractive at all. I do agree the interior is plain in the Cadillac, however the actual materials are not any worse. You have the same issue Doug Demuro has when he is reviewing a sedan that is not a hundred thousand dollar car, he just goes through the motions and continually discusses that it is not an SUV. He has made it clear he does not like reviewing regular sedans through his tones and actions when he has to do one. You have the same issue when you review American cars. Your tone and interest level in the review is very different, almost dismissive as compared to German cars. I drive a 3 series so I get they are good cars, it was just an observation.
