    Thanks for these wonderful videos Dana! I"ve decided that I can't keep paying $2500 a month on Rent on a 2/2.5 house in Los Angeles County. It's a newer type of Townhouse that has no joining walls. High ceilings and hardwood floors downstairs and carpeting upstairs. Both bedrooms are Master Suite, double size garage, the third bathroom is downstairs, that's my cat Ruger's bathroom. I practically gave all my furniture away so I would move to Texas or the south, starting my life after an abusive relationship. The name of the city I'm heading to is bordering Mexico, a famous cowboy town that you haven't mentioned.

    Hi Dana, let me contribute a few more pros: 1. everything is bigger in TX, TX BBQ is one of the best in the nation 2. we have the best public schools in university park/southlake/plano west,some top private schools such as hockaday school, st mark's school 3. goverment subsidies on tax is attracting tons of califorinian companies to TX, Uber/amazon/google/facebook are all coming, more are on the way 4. homeless people, it sucks in california, we do not have many here 5. we have some tornados, but we do not have earth quakes. 6. so many shopping options, for grocery, we have walmart/tomthumb/kroger/central market/aldi, tons of mexian markets and asian markets 7. we have some top 500 companies with headquarters, such as American airlines/AT&T/kohls/JC penney....8. we have dallas stars/ranges/mavricks/cowboys, lots of fun 9. we have DART train, another option for commute 10. lots of museums, kids playground, libraries 10. airline hub of AA and southwest, it is maximum 3 hours flight to everywhere within US. 11. Texas beef is the best, we have more cows than people 12. gun friendly 13. so many choices for homes, some million home like preston hollow(close to Bush), tons of choices in suburbs as well. 14. suburbs are expanding to north, Frisco is fast developing, celina is the next....

    Even with the higher real estate taxes, the cost of living in the DFW area is dwarfed by the costs of living in the coastal major cities. DFW also has that awesome infrastructure with the new highways, new train lines, and large airport. DFW is a fantastic place to commute around the country from!

Your video will help me to understand how much I can realistically afford in buying a house in Texas, not right now but possibly in the distance future. The cost of living in Texas is much-much better than here in expensive cost of living California. Please take care and God's blessings to you & your dear family in the DFW area. 😊👋👋🙏

    For a two bedroom, 1114 sqft apartment in San Diego, we pay an average of 140-160 a month for gas & electric, in the summer we average over 300 a month. Gas price here 4.10 a gallon. 😩. Water bill, sewer and trash ~ 55. It is very pricey. Home prices are insane here. In a 92113 area which is a very bad area, you get a 3 bed 2 bath 1089 sqft for $500,000. 🤯 insane.

PG&E will shut off your power every time the wind blows and they raise rates to cover their litigation costs form being sued for burning down entire towns and killing people in those fires. I pay $360/mo, my house rarely gets below 80 degrees. PG&E owns a monopoly in many parts of California. Also my house is a $220K 1200sf fixer upper.

    I think one big reason is Texas's supply of land is almost unlimited, the city can expand crazy, want more houses? just keep building more, that's why housing prices can grow but not like in California's skyrocketing. I know many people do not like high property tax, but the good thing is you pay for what you live, you pay more for living in a larger/safer community, and every dollar is spent to make the community/school better place. high property tax also restrict those wants to make a big fortune by stocking lots of houses: the cost of owning is high. there is a reason for people relocating to DFW: everything is bigger and cheaper, money talks :-)

    Everyone thinks San Diego has great weather but let’s be honest. It gets mid 90s consistently along with some humidity in summer. They problem is with the older homes is that insulation is terrible. Our home is 50 years old and 1,647 sq feet.
    I would say average is 300 atleast. 3 yrs ago we had a $650 dollar bill followed by a 450 dollar bill. We decided on solar and now pay 10 bucks and will pay off solar in 4.5 years...that is if we stay 🤪

    I'm in Westminster Calif. , with gas appliances ; Electricity costs me 70.00 to 110.00 a month , No A/C ; natural gas costs me about 25.00 a month , sometimes less ; water costs me approx. 70.00 every two months , cable internet without television channels costs 60.00 a month , Oct.2020 gasoline is hovering around 3.00 a gallon , Since Calif. went bankrupt several years ago they increased auto registration , and froze the rule of smog exemption to 1975 or older . Calif. also made new ammunition purchasing ,and bullet capacity laws , limiting to Ten rounds , So all of my Ruger 1022 banana clips are now unlawful to use and must stay locked up in the safe , until I move to Texas . The property I'm eyeing in Texas , has property tax of $ 4000 a year , my current property tax in Calif. is at $ 2700 .

    Are there pros/cons of having a pool vs buying in a development that has a community pool? Assuming higher HOAs with a community pool?

    • @movingtotexas
      @movingtotexas  4 года назад +1

      I love having a community pool even though my HOA is higher because I dont want to maintain it and my kids like making friends there. However, many people like having their own for the privacy. It is definitely more costly to build a pool. $60-$80K+ and you only gain back around $30k when time to sell. So if you can find a home with a pool already then you score! Those homes do sell fast in Texas.
