      I think one of, if not the best, 3 seasons of TV ever. It's an absolute gem, and it came out in a time when all of us were missing regular human contact outside our "bubbles." Women with power and agency. Men on the opposite side of the spectrum for the toxic masculinity we're normally shown. A show that would have you laugh out loud just after it made you cry b/c it dealt with real things in an honest and direct way with fully developed characters played by an ensemble who clearly loved and supported one another during production. It's so so good, and you're reactions have been great!

    Dear Frank, fellow Frank-adjacent here (my name is Francisca, the female Portuguese version!)
    I found you today, as a big big fan of Ted Lasso and, as someone whose favorite character is also Rebecca, I’m looooving your reactions and binged all 3 videos.
    I have so much to say about this series. Firstly, thank you for the kindness you’ve shown for my girl Rebecca since the beginning. She was never the villain!! She was a woman scorned, a woman that just realized she wasted a chunk of her life on someone awful. Yes, she’d always wanted children and put it aside because her husband didn’t want it and then he goes and has a baby with someone he met on Ep4 (barely half a year). Her character is supposed to be around the same age as the actress (45/46 in this season. 48 by the end of the 3rd/last season. Hannah is now about to turn 50). She has said that she had envisioned Rebecca having an ache about not having children, way before knowing that would be a subject by the end of the season. Hannah herself discovered in her late 30s with a physical for a job that she was probably not able to have children and suffered a lot with it but managed to have a baby girl at almost 40 (she’s a single mother and they’re now turning 50 and 10 years old next month) and she lent that experience to her character. She’s also mentioned being so grateful for this role cause, besides catapulting her career worldwide in her mid 40s, it allowed her to play so many emotions and show so much of what she can do. She’d been typecast a lot as a villain because of her presence or just rejected for jobs because she was from the musical theater and because she’s so tall (6’2”) and wouldn’t be considered for main roles because the male actor was shorter!!!!
    I love also your reflection on platonic relationships. They’re very close friends and it doesn’t have to turn romantic. They enrich each other’s lives anyway! I have only a few close friends but they’re my lifeline. I think between friends, we save each other’s lives constantly… I don’t know where I’d be without mine!
    Also this show was maybe not as known cause it is on Apple TV+ and even so, they broke the record for the most Emmy nominations of a comedy 1st season ever (20). Hannah (Rebecca), Jason (Ted) and Brett (Roy) all won Emmys for their performances in this. And about Hannah Waddingham’s singing, check out her opening performance of the Oliviers 2024 (“anything goes” with a full orchestra, piano and gospel choir), the British Theatre Awards that she hosted brilliantly this year for the second time. She sings amazing here, but she made a point to make it sound a bit more difficult than it would be for a professional like her, that it was football team owner who likes to sing and not her as Hannah singing.
    Thank you again. I love your humaneness in this, I’ve just subscribed and I’m for sure coming back. I hope you keep posting and watch all 3 seasons!!! You’ll love it. Greetings from Vienna, Austria

    When you’re done with Ted Lasso, another really intelligent comedy that makes you think while also giving you the feels is “The Good Place”. I agree, the guys' advice re: Keeley sleeping with Jamie was very refreshing. That convo would have gone completely different IRL. Also, the portrayal of Ted's panic attack was SO accurate, it was scary. I had to learn to talk myself down so as to not keep giving the ER my money unnecessarily.

    • @FrankFreezy_
      @FrankFreezy_  2 месяца назад +8

      For sure. It was a great example of how those kinds of conversations should go. we don’t have to demonize or slut shame someone to be critical of their actions.

    Part of why the female characters are written so well in this show is BECAUSE of the platonic friendships between men and women. A lot of them time in Hollywood, writers can’t stop themselves from making every female character a love interest. That’s why I always feel so icky whenever a reactor bring up how “Ted and Rebecca would be good together”. First, they really wouldn’t be, second, their relationship is too pure to be ruined by a cliché love story. That’s why I love this show so much. Because they specifically avoid that.

    Have you seen The Expanse? Watching you react so passionately to Rebecca makes me think of that show and how much you might appreciate character writing there. Like you say, many authors choose the easy way and pick the tropes that would help the viewing figures. It is hard to find people who actually care about breathing authentic life into their characters, something that grows on you as you get to know them closer and appreciate their complexity and the difficulty of their choices. It’s a terrific show. Don’t even mind if you don’t react to it, I just feel like you and your wife would make a perfect audience for it. No I have not watched it but I will give it a look. Yes anytime a show gets you invested in characters like this, it's a no-brainer that I get so invested in them. That's why anytime I see big shows or movies fumble the writing, I guess so confused, like they could have put a lot of that money into searching and hiring competent writers. Thanks for watching the videos and following along, you're my kind of viewer. We see the show very similarly

    Late on this but catching up on your Ted Lasso reactions and loving them! Your reactions are so emotionally intelligent and I love your perspective. I've watched quite a few reactions to this show, but I have to say, no one has ever been so insightful or really got the true depth and message of this show as well as you have. I absolutely love seeing you speak with your full chest about how horribly Rupert has treated Rebecca, or how wonderful Rebecca's growth is, or how incredible the female friendships and support this show has. I think a lot of reactors can get caught up in Ted's journey, which is meaningful and important in its own right, but may miss some of the other essential storylines within the show. How strongly the show stands up against misogyny, or how they took the stance against the traditional Hollywood trope of pitting women against each other and instead just showed how loving and supportive female friendships can actually be. Those 'side' storylines are to me the reason why this show is so brilliant in addition to the main narrative of Ted and the football team. There's SO much to gain from this show if you can really just notice all of those things, and I think you've done that beautifully with your reactions!

    I’ve said this before, but I started this show thinking it would be very gimmicky and superficial. I did not expect it to be so mature and be so relatable. 10/10
    I love what you said about giving advice to your friends in a group huddle at the bar. I worry that I was too immature for too long and have pushed my friends away from bringing up personal things like that. I’m a different person now, but I worry that know me as the person I was 10 years ago and don’t see who I’ve become.

    I am really enjoying your thoughtful reactions! And all your comments.
    One thing that I see a lot of reactors doing is thinking Rebecca and Ted should have something at this point and that is so weird for me haha So far there's never been ONE moment that gave any romantic vibes at all. There's no love triangle at all. It is just some great friendship blooming with supporting moments. Completely platonic. This show is so smart, it breaks so many TV shows's "rules" that people get confused that the Lead male and Lead female are not together somehow.

      You are so right. The show goes against what people are usually used to. Hence that feeling of it being quite refreshing. I don't think any Brits were consulted on the writing of this show - they get to the first time a Brit says "locker room" or "tie" or something and are like "Why the fuck did you tell me to watch an American show about football?" 😅 - but it's so frustrating because end up missing out in such a well written story.
