This movie makes me cry because Forrest faces life and Jenny runs from it, but people hate on her SO MUCH as if her life isn't full of trauma and violence since she was a kid. A life full of trauma can make you forget you deserve love.
I love this comment so much. So important. I had no idea some viewers hated Jenny till a good friend of mine told me yesterday. I was shocked! Her reasons for running away from life are very legit and understandable. Like you said its trauma-based. Makes you feel like you don't deserve good things and to be loved. The scene where she almost unalive herself was so heartbreaking.
Something I caught on my 2nd or 3rd time through; Jenny still ran to Forrest AFTER she goes to live with her grandmother. No one seems to question that.
Jenny was "taught" thinking love was what her father did to her - so any feelings of real love was something she didn't understand. All the men she was with were abusive because that's what she knew as love. The only thing she really felt was that running made her safe - hence whenever she tells Forrest to run, it's her purest form of love. She always runs away from Forest because she loves him. It's not till she has a Son and understands real love that she stays.
Gary Sinise, the actor that played Lt. Dan, was so affected by this role he became deeply involved in Veteran organizations. He started his own foundation for vets, The Gary Sinise Foundation. He also tours with the USO to active duty shows around the world with his band, The Lt. Dan Band.
I just seen that Gary Sinise thru his organization flew 3 Delta planes down to Disney World full of kids & spouses who have lost their dad in war. He does amazing work!!
Yeah. It's the confirmation that he completely understands the challenges he's faced in his life, in his own way. He faces everything so head-on it almost seems like he's ignorant of how others think of him and treat him, but that moment shows that he knows. And he doesn't want his son to go through it.
Forrest's speech about the war was "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing." according to Tom Hanks.
I'll never forget when I finally realized the significance of Forrest seeing the birds fly away after he visits Jenny's grave. God answered the prayer she made when she was a little girl to make her a bird so she could fly away
And those birds were a complete coincidence as well! They were just filming some footage of Tom walking away from the gravesite and the birds just happened, everyone was kinda awestruck and nobody messed up the take/footage so they put that into the final film since it was so perfect. At least that’s what I heard from “behind the scenes” shows that were on back in the day.
Oh my God yes. And I love that they didn’t have to spoonfeed us the fact that he was worried his kids weren’t going to be smart. through that scene and also the seen when forest at Jenny‘s grave - when he said “he’s so smart” and started crying. It perfectly conveys how anxious he was about that. And how relieved he is that his kid is very smart. Beautiful storytelling.
the truly sad part is society told Forrest he wasn't smart but he is, Hes a University Graduate , Ping pong World Champ, Highly decorated Vet, Co-Owner of Apple Computers , Owns Bubba Gump Shrimp and owns a 200 year old Plantation.
As a person who has autsism when i had my daughter it was a fact that kept me up at night till she was born shes perfectly healthy and it makes me so relieved
Nixon resigned because of the Watergate scandal. Which, in the scene here, it was from Forest calling the security/front desk that the flashlights were keeping him up. Something I never noticed until now (probably seen the movie 20 times) is that Lt. Dan tells him that the day Forest becomes a shrimp boat captain is the day he becomes an astronaut, and then Lt. Dan ends up having prosthetic leg made from the same material Nasa uses. Not sure if that was intentional but thought it was kinda cool.
I think Jenny is one of the most accurate depictions of what childhood absue does to an adult. I hate that so many people hate her as a character. She's not evil, just broken.
I felt this comment as a survivor of child abuse. The way Jenny behaved made sense to me as a kid, because my default is "nobody is safe". When your own mother beats you from your earliest memories, who can you trust?
Fun fact: the Alabama accent of the young actor playing young Forrest, is real. So real, that Tom Hanks decided to study that boys accent for a long time to get his older Forrest's accent to match the boy. I think I've seen this movie (and Sahwshank Redemption) over 100 times, and it never gets old. Beautiful story..glad you enjoyed it.
That’s a fun fact indeed. So wholesome. Yeah this movie is evergreen and will surely be revisited. And I know you’re not exaggerating when you say over 100 times haha thanks for watching
Haley Joel Osment is coincidentally in two of my top three movies of all times. His performance in The Sixth Sense (and Forrest Gump of course) is absolutely top tier and he should've won the Oscar he was nominated for imo.
@@imajinallthepurple So I think the original poster is actually referring to the actor from the beginning of the movie when he played Forrest as a young boy (Michael Connor Humphreys) rather than Forrest Jr. (played by HJO). Sorry, definitely don't mean to correct because you might already know what he meant. Just wanted to make sure just in case!
I had a girlfriend also named Jenny and I loved very much and I asked her to marry me she said no and moved out a few days later. She had a rough childhood, her brother who was two years older than her and was her shoulder to lean on died tragically at twenty. Her dad was not a very good guy. I talked to her mother after she left and her mom said that Jenny won't let anyone really love her and pushes them away in fear of them leaving. It took me awhile to come to terms with that.
So many veterans wrote to Gary Sinise saying that his portrayal of what it’s like to be a Vietnam veteran spoke to their souls, that it permanently changed the trajectory of his life. He now works closely with veterans as one of the most effective advocates for their needs. So not only is this a heartwarming fictional story, but it’s one that positively changed the lives of many people
A "million dollar wound" actually means something that is serious enough to get you taken out of combat service but at the same time NOT serious enough to leave any permanent noticeable damage.
Forrest getting hit in the butt doesn't seem too serious. He could keep running for quite some time afterwards, meaning his pelvis isn't broken, and at the hospital he's back on his feet playing ping-pong. I wonder if it's implied that the doctors gave him a pass because they did't think he would survive if they sent him back out. A high velocity bullet to the ass would probably have gone straight through him, shattered his pelvis and hip joint, and ripped up a huge exit wound. If it was a bullet ricochet or a small piece of shrapnel seems more likely.
Just a little detail I wanted to point out I never see mentioned. At Forest's wedding Lt Dan shows up with his fiancé, who is clearly of Asian descent, further showing his growth as a person through his interactions with Forest given that they met in Vietnam during wartime which typically fostered a lot of hatred and racism from many returning vets. It's like his wholesomeness is contagious.
I always like to think he returned to Vietnam after the war and made peace that his destiny wasn't to die there, and could see some of that beauty Forrest was talking about.
Not true, I'm a Vietnam veteran and I had Vietnamese friends that took care of me, fed me, let me sleep in their homes, Vietnamese worked on US bases and got along very well, you need to read some good books.
The Medal of Honor does mean a lot. It's the highest honor granted by the U.S. Government. For him to give the medal to Jenny just showed how selfless he was.
@@FrankFreezy_ not only is it the highest honor it isn’t given out just willy nilly very few people have it in real life. For the most part people usually don’t get to accept it, because what they did to deserve it takes their life, not all the time but sometimes.
The only way to get this medal is to to something hero like Well but you only can reach that hero act if youre already in war so in the end this medal is still an hypocrite medal Cause war is never good and non of medals of honor were given out of defending. It were always an attack why people got it. For me its like a : " Yeah you killed a lot of our enemys youl did well "
@@sonicartzldesignerclan5763 The medal was awarded to Desmond Doss, who served as a combat medic and refused to carry a weapon based on religious grounds. He got the medal for his bravery in saving lives rather than for taking them.
Where Forrest quit running was on Hwy 163 in Utah, and there's a sign put up in the exact spot that says this is where he stopped. That spots been nicknamed Forrest Gump Point.
I had a little sister born with special needs. She had a brace on one leg for years. I taught my son to NEVER make fun of anyone in a mean spirited way! I told him if he ever did…he would see another side of his momma. Fast forward to high school for my son…and boys we’re picking on a new girl in school. My son warned the main bully once. The next day…the bully shoved the girls’ lunch tray into the floor. My son decked him! My son got a one day suspension. I accepted that but told the principal that I was proud of my son!
Im autistic and chronically ill myself and rewatching this movie as my medical condition gets worse reminds me that even if im not like everyone else, I can still be there for people and still be me
I am disabled by a combination of autoimmune and neurological conditions, and have been since 2014. This movie hits different now, having gone through a similar situation as Lt Dan in becoming disabled. The grief and anger is REAL, but so is the peace and acceptance he achieves toward the end of the story. Very relatable for people like us. I hope you have more light symptom days than symptom-heavy ones! Take care
I am autistic as well. Remember, we're not stupid or broken, no matter what the world tells us. We just function differently. There's nothing wrong with being different!
@SnidgetAsphodel same and I am getting out of the mindset of wishing I could be "normal" we are who we are and if we are not harming anyone, we have every right to embrace ourselves
@@elevenpoisons2484 Good! I have for the past many years. In fact, I believe being on the spectrum is a bit of a gift. We are creative, deeply empathetic people, which unfortunately the world doesn't understand. Embrace yourself and your skills because you have them!
Forrest saying "that's all I have to say about that" is really strong. He can talk about everything in his life, but when it comes to his really painful memories, he stops the story. Great reaction!
Finally! Someone who pauses the film, makes their point, and resumes it. So many reactors miss important moments because they're talking. Not that talking is bad, it enhances the reaction, but not at the cost of the feature. Thanks for keeping me engaged and showing your viewpoint while also respecting the film 😭😭
Thanks for mentioning that. I am one of those people who lose my mind when people are talking while everyone is trying to watch a movie. I get so mad because so many people miss so many important things in the movie. So I get it. And I want to give you guys the best experience well enjoying the movie myself. Thank you for watching
There’s so many emotional parts in this movie, but one of my favorite little details is that the bus driver is chewing gum at the end, not smoking. Shows the time that passed in terms of society becoming more health conscious, and also she was making steps forward and seems happier.
I'd just like to say that I admire your spirit. Your compassion for others, and your understanding of the challenges people face in life shines through. I enjoyed your reaction, and wish you well.
Wooooow I love this a lot. I noticed how poetic it was that the birds flew by right in that moment. but the way you just tied that together hits way more💛
Absolutely loved your reaction. You totally understood why Jenny was the way she was. The abusive childhood damaged her, I’m so glad she had Forrest. New sub ☺️
Jenny is a powerful woman. She eventually got back on her feet regardless of all the bad cards life dealt her. Thank you so much. I appreciate you for watching.
I am only halfway through your watch and had to say how much I adore your commentary. You are a kind soul. I also really like the painting of the couple behind you. Joyous.
Woooow! Thank you so much for this comment. It's so important. I never even thought about that. you're right. Based on the abuse she grew up with, that was the norm. Wow. That's awesome. Thanks again
@@FrankFreezy_ Yes, Jenny really needs to be understood in the context of the abuse she grew up with. She is a strong and kind woman, just with a lot of trauma that sends her the wrong way a lot of the time. But in the end, she does manage to overcome her past.
This was filmed in Savannah, Ga when I lived there and the bench is now in a museum. The Vietnam scenes were filmed in Beaufort, SC. The actual bench was filmed in one of the 20 something squares in downtown
I always think Forrest got amazing lucky breaks while Jenny got all the bad breaks. Still they were intertiwed with each other and ended up together. I like to think the entire story is about their kid getting the best parts of both of them. What a movie. And excellent reaction. Earned a sub today. Thanks, friend.
I love how you view all of it. I never thought of that. Absolutely the kid gets the best of them. So precious. Thank you so much. Happy to have you here💜
The secret to Forrest, is he always sees the silver lining. That is why he was able to endure all that he did, always look for the silver lining. Beautiful and sometimes funny movie.
It means so much to me to hear that you immediately grasped how forward Jenny was and the concept of consent. Because I read a theory that that particular scene was Jenny's turning point. Where she realized, maybe not intellectually but subconsciously, that what she'd done was mirroring her own abuse, and what pushed her over the edge into the downward spiral that she fought so hard to climb out of. I know that the time we get to see her with her stuff together is short, but I'm grateful we all still got to see that, because so many folks who've experienced a hard life don't get to have those kinds of experiences. I also just love your reactions, and it really speaks volumes about how empathetic and understanding you are. I wish there were more folks like you around. You seem very sweet. And bruh, so talented!! I hope you keep creating and loving and being you, and thank you so much for sharing your time with all of us. You're such a delightful person, and I'm glad I found you, and I'm glad to be here. 💜 Take care, okay?
Thanks for sharing that. I really love that theory about Jenny and I can definitely get behind that. There was definitely a realization that happened there. I heard someone in the comments say they would love a movie from Jenny's point of view and I absolutely would love to watch that. Obviously it would be a sadder movie but such an important one. That might be what helps some people understand her trauma and stop hating her. You are far too kind. I appreciate you saying that. thats the energy I strive to give out and the energy I want in return from the world. I'm so glad you found my channel and you're here❤❤. Thank you thank you
Following you because you understood Jenny, and as a woman I applaud you for that. A lot of men have no empathy for sexual abuse because they can’t grasp the emotional/mental damage it inflicts on people. They also take it personally that Jenny can’t imagine deserving a white picket fence life with Forrest. As someone who has been abused myself, and struggle with depression & PTSD, Jenny’s story resonates with me- I ran for a long time too and was blinded from seeing any of the good in people or life and just wanted to numb myself. Some call it selfish- while I call sexual abuse selfish and don’t victim blame. RIP Jenny, stepping up and facing your trauma in order to care for your child and finally accept the love from Forrest you deserved all along 👏🏻
Absolutely beautifully said. Thank you for sharing your experience. Sometimes I really wish I can just sit some people down and just hammer into their heads how horrendous trauma is and trauma from sexual abuse. And Jenny is the bravest character in his whole movie and I'm happy her story resonates with you. Its good to see yourself and your struggles and other people, makes you realize that you're not alone and you can also thrive. Thanks so much for watching and this comment
12:19 I love how you put that! My son is non communicative autistic and has ODD. He’s incredibly smart but has trouble navigating daily social interactions prefers animals and his toys to people and will speak to something if it can’t speak back. But I wa told by doctors that he would never speak at all or attend a mainstream school. But he’s now communicating with single words and guiding you to what he wants, and is about to start his second year at school. My way of looking at things will always be the same as Forrest’s mother, never tell your kids they can’t do something
This movie gets me every time. It holds so much meaning to me. One of my dear friends and I saw this together in the theater. We also were like peas and carrots. Sadly, she died in a tragic accident not long after. She was only 29. In my mind I can still see her beautiful smile and hear her laughter almost thirty years later.
I gound your channel yesterday and must have watched at least six videos of yours. I have watched most of the movies, vut I love your reactions. You are an emotio aly intelligent and furthermost, very caring and loving person. Even the nitification that I got now, when I wanted to leave this comment just speaks to that. It is incredibly refreshing.
Watching Forrest’s mum die hits different for me as an adult now that I’ve seen my own mother die of front of my eyes. Life’s like a box of chocolates. RIP Mum, 1969-2015
Sorry for your loss, I know the experience. My mom was a heavy smoker and lung cancer took her. Hardest thing I’ve had to endure was her fighting to breathe. I miss her everyday. RIP Mom 1963-2023.
Lt Dan got legs made of the stuff they use for astronauts. So he in a way kept his word when he told Gump, "the day you become a shrimp boat captain, I'll be an astronaut!" Love that detail. 😊
I always love the story Tom Hanks said about the voice. The director told Tom to decide on an accent so they could teach the young actor how he was going to sound. Hanks said, "Wouldn't it be easier if I just learned to talk like him?" He said he still has a bunch of recordings he would listen to of him talking with the child actor (who eventually served as a Marine, I believe).
I think people also overlook the fact thay Jenny goes to Forest when she's truly scared, but when she got clean and came back she saw her childhood home and reminded her that she didn't deserve love, and least of all Forest. So even though she changed for the better, she couldn't make herself stay because she thinks she's bad for Forest. It wasn’t until she had her child and experienced unconditional love that she realized that wasn't true. Jenny probably would have gotten in touch with him sooner if he hadn't been away for so long.and people talk so much crap about Jenny, but she knew he was loaded and if she really didnt care about him she would have took his money and run off.
Thank you, I keep finding new things about this movie that I previously missed. Seeing her childhood home must've been a total trigger for Jenny and all her trauma.
exactly. forest was already a national hero, rich, and nice yet jenny still didnt think she deserved his love at the time and chooses to be away from him and live a horrible life.
True. Even with him having a boat load of money she left… she didn’t come back until she knew she was dying. She loved Forest she was just incapable of being the woman that he needed.
absolutely loved your reaction. i’m so glad you understood jenny’s story and the trauma she went through that made her scared of true genuine love. you had such great analysis and insight on each character. i grew up watching this movie and each time it gets me, such a special film!
Thank you so much!!❤️ Jenny's great. I see how people can misunderstand her. Sometimes people just have to look deeper and find the reasons why some characters are the way they are. And that will help them have more compassion. I'm so happy to have you here. Thanks for watching
my dads whole side of the family is from alabama. tom hanks accent is spot on. also, the part when he tells jenny their son is so smart and starts crying always makes me tear up. such a great film this is 👌
I feel like Jenny's story gets lost on people. Yes she can be perceived as a bad person, but her unresolved trauma follows her till she decides to face it and heal. Jenny is a strong force and a testament to anyone who has had to overcome such things❤

18:36 When Jenny says: "Forrest, you don`t know what love is!" she actually means that if he knew what love was, he could never love someone like her. She isn`t belittling Forrest but herself.
That my friend, was one of the most heartfelt reactions to any movie that I have ever seen. Thank you for bringing insight and passion to such a wonderful movie.
This reaction video of yours appeared in my feed and I must say, I absolutely loved your commentary, perception, and analysis of the different themes. I really enjoyed everything you said.

I love someone very similar to jenny, a deeply hurt person that can't give me love until she learns to forgive and love herself. Sometimes I question if I'm being stupid holding space for her but then I realize I'll never love anyone the way I love her and whether we find our way back to eachother or not in this lifetime, she's always with me.
Wow. Thank you so much for sharing this. Sometimes you holding space for them, might be what teaches them they deserve to be loved. You are not stupid my friend❤️
I volunteer at my local VFW (Veterans of Foreign War), and I have spent a lot of time listening to their stories. It helps them to just be able to talk about their experiences to people who appreciate them for what they have been through. One of them told me that the most realistic depiction of the Vietnam War he has ever seen in a movie is this one.
When Forrest tells little Forrest that he loves him at the end, is making sure he doesn’t turn out like Jenny. And when he runs, its after Jenny leaves him and Jenny always told him to run away if he ever gets into trouble
Something funny/wholesome I thought of when you mentioned what a good actor Tom Hanks is. I remember WAY back a year or so after this movie came out... His wife, Rita Wilson (a very good actress!) was on a talk show promoting one of her projects. The subject of Tom came up, and she commented on how much she liked it when Tom was filming Forrest Gump. Like a lot of actors, he "gets into" his characters while he's performing. At the time of Rita's interview, Tom was filming Apollo 13, playing one of the astronauts (an intense movie about a military man in an intense situation), so he was "intense and edgy" at home. She contrasted this with the year before when he had been filming Forrest Gump and he had been in a constant, agreeable, wholesome mindset, super helpful around the house, would pretty much do anything she asked without any argument (100% "Forrest-style"), she was laughing about how much she missed that, it was a pretty cute story.
Oh my goodness that is so wholesome. Thank you so much for sharing that story of his wife and the interview. I always thought it was interest and how some actors bring some of their characters back home with them. Just the same way anybody can have a bad day at work and it's still affects them in real life. I always wondered how people who play traumatic characters deal with that in their real life.
And this is such a beautiful movie and an inspirational movie. Forest Gump has done a lot in his life and he is such a thoughtful person, loyal person, humble person, kind person, selfless person, and an all around round nice guy and a kind hearted person.
My favourite part of this film is when he first meets Forrest Jr., he describes the encounter as seeing "the most beautiful thing [he'd] seen in [his] whole life." But he had just said that exact same thing about his first encounter with Jenny not a few hours before at the bus stop - he just fell in love with his son the exact same way he initially fell in love with Jenny. His next feeling is dreadful fear - for the first time, Forrest admits that he has always known he's not as bright as others. But he didn't admit it for himself - he admitted it out of fear for his son.
10:40 that's the spirit of the movie. Forrest was not portrayed as his disability, but as his candor. The final scenes are a testament to that. He's the lucky one in the story, after all. I'm not even american, putting aside the historical references, this movie is a perfect commentary on life. 33:00 that was the Watergate Hotel, google the scandal that transpired from that night
I absolutely agree. I love that decision not to make his disability to focal point. Cause people with disabilities are people first. Absolutely, great commentary. We could all learn a thing or two from Forrest Gump❤️ ah I have heard of the Watergate scandal/conspiracy. But I'll definitely look into it more. Thanks for watching mate
I think it’s so important to see that Forrest while he accomplishes so much in his life and does all these big things, doesn’t care about them at all. It’s just stuff happening around him, but he knows what his priorities are. He just cares about his friends, his mama, and his Jenny.
There is an enlistment contract to army. Standard 4 years active and 4 year inactive duty(reserves). But depending on the job you sign up for, it can range from 2 to 6 years.
"Everyone needs a friend like Forrest." Dunno, man. Your comments are so positive and compassionate and wholesome, I bet my life that you are friends think that they are very lucky. :)
I had to subscribe the first few minutes!!! Your whole persona is amazing ❤ Genuine and sweet. Also, super perceptive and insightful. Great reaction, I've enjoyed every minute of it! 😊
I first saw this movie back when I was in my early teens, bu I've re-watched it a few times since. In my early 30s, it makes me think that while Forest was cursed with some developmental disability, he wasn't cursed, like most people, with the complicated mental struggle. There are so many good people I know whose lives are ruined or complicated by mental struggles that mostly seem to come out of nowhere.
I know right… I watch movies as an adult that I watched as a kid and they hit so different. Now I understand Jenny and I’ve so much compassion for her.
Jenny apologised and married Forrest only after she found out she was dying had nothing to do with her getting her life together she just knew her son would be financially free for life and used him once again, she went through a lot of trauma as a kid but so did Forrest, he had no dad, his principal banged his mum in front of him, he was physically bullied everywhere he went, watched his best friend die in his arms cmon now. Forest did not deserve what she put him through that past trauma is not an excuse for the mental fuckery Jenny constantly put him through her whole life, I’ve watched this movie countless times over my life and she will never be forgiven in my eyes
I will never understand how so many people can completely miss the fact that Jenny was really messed up because of her father, and that caused a chain reaction for the rest of her life until she finally had little Forrest. Trauma only in childhood is enough to affect someone for life, but the fact that it led her into having trauma after trauma after trauma... Jenny's story isn't that difficult of a story to understand, yet it seems to bounce right off the skulls of most of the reactors on YT.
My sister went through similar things as Jenny, both as a child and an adult. She passed away 2 years ago. People always judge women more harshly than men without knowing what they've been through. I saw it. My sister felt it. It's real.
@@garycollins7750 She didn't ignore him. She didn't feel like she deserved him, because people who go through that kind of trauma often think they're damaged goods. She likely thought that she wasn't good enough for him. But thanks for being an example of people not understanding Jenny, just as I said.
I understand Jenny had a difficult childhood and there is some sympathy there for her, but it doesnt change the fact that she used Forrest and treated him like shit. Forrest was just too dumb to realize that.
Probably the Best movie I've ever seen. I've watched it many times and cry my eye's out every single time he's standing at Jennie's grave crying and telling her how much he misses her. It rip's my heart out
Never forget, Jenny loved Forrest deeply. She just didn't think she deserved him. Out of the mamy small things she does under the surface that shows it that many others will mention, very few people talk about this, What did she do when she found out he went to Vietnam? Protested the war. She didn't protest the war because she was against it. She was scared to lose him.
22:25 this hit home for me in it's own way, remembering the father of my very first serious boyfriend. His dad was in Vietnam and they didn't have him till 1989, even with being together for so long. That is what it is, but I met his father a handful of times. I felt for him so much because the trauma of what he went through was very evidently exhausting. Eventually I asked if he suffered from PTSD and my bf said "yes". He then proceeded to tell me what really triggered it for him. His dad was one of the front men and sometimes the first person leading the company into the red zone. One morning, his friend and buddy on the front volunteered to be the main front man. Within moments of their entrance into the zone, he watched his friend completely disappear from in front of him. He was completely hit and disintegrated in front his eyes, within seconds. That could have been him. Not to mention they had to keep pushing foward over the line. Even at 33, that still sticks in my head and reverberates when I watch the jungle scenes from the time Forrest spent in Vietnam.
Oh my goodness. Thanks for sharing this experience. It really affects a lot of people for the rest of their lives. I can't even imagine watching that happen to a friend or anybody I know. And on top of that having to continue the mission. christ. makes me wonder why War even exists
In Canada years ago we had a guy named Terry Fox who ran across Canada with one good leg and the other was a prospectic leg from getting cancer, so he ran 🏃♂️ across Canada 🇨🇦 for cancer research and they made statues everywhere of him and a track and field called Terry Fox and children in school do a run on their tracks doing the Terry Fox run every year.
I really liked your reaction and your observations. And you seem to have a good understanding of Jenny and how the terrible, devastating trauma she went through as a child effected her and the choices she made ... her journey is remarkable as well. Forest Gump is one of the best movies and Tom Hanks was stellar in it.
This is exactly why it's critical for dads to teach their daughters what proper and healthy love looks like. In Jenny's case, she was deeply broken by her father, and in her mind, that's the only love she deserved. It wasn't until Forrest came into her life that she saw what true love is. He gave without ever expecting anything in return. Jenny's story is a tragic one, but I'm always glad that she got to experience that love from Forrest, however briefly.
Absolutely! It also doesn't help that during the time period of her whole life, Jenny had absolutely no resources she could turn to for help to deal with her childhood trauma like a therapist, medications, or support groups like we have today
49:04 - I don’t think a lot of people get this, but a big step in Alcoholics Anonymous is apologizing to everyone you’ve ever wronged (well, as many as you possibly can). I really enjoyed your reaction. It was nice seeing this epic movie from the perspective of a kind human being that’s not from the states. We loved it along with you!
I wanna tell you that just by seeing your reaction to this legendary movie I can tell you are a rare, one in a million, beautiful, intelligent, emphatic and Forrest Gumpy kinda guy who sees the world through your heart. Thank You! ❤
This story means a heck of a lot to me and so many others. I’m glad you enjoyed it and cherish it the way I do! Great job on the reaction man, I think we could all be a little more like Forrest
Some people don't stop talking through their films reactions, as a result they miss a lot of important details. Your reaction to the movie was great. Keep going with this channel.
Tom Hanks said that his accent came from the little boy that played forest. He actually talked like that and they found it fascinating. How he spoke so Tom Hanks modeled his speech in the way he spoke after the little boy and it's Southern Louisiana.
This hit hard, I lost my mom to brain cancer recently but thank God for my daughters. ❤️ My dad lost his leg during Vietnam and he never let it change him, beat dad ever. This movie is amazing . New sub and love the channel becasue you aren’t afraid of showing your emotions. I’m a single dad of the most amazing daughters ever , they’re my world and I’m not afraid to show emotion I think being around my angels so I appreciate those who aren’t afraid to show emotion during sad movies happy movies etc
I’ve seen this movie so many times that I can quote at least half of it ❤️ loved watching you react to this masterpiece!! I’ll never forget watching it for the first time with my Dad when I was younger. He and I both laughed, cried, and shook our heads in anger in so many parts of the movie, God rest my Daddy’s soul. I miss him every day. And you’ve just gained a new subscriber my dude 😉 I appreciate your willingness to lay yourself bare emotionally, it’s the way it should be and I wish more creators did this!!
Thank you so much for watching man. Shout out to your dad. Those memories are forever. Rip to our dads. Thanks for subbing. And yes I'm always going to be authentically myself in these videos and let every single emotion flow
Such a classic movie! Love to see a first time reaction to it. You may not have grown up in the USA or know a lot about its history… but this movie is a perfect jumping off point. Forrest experienced ALL of the major events in modern US history (and then some!)
I watch this movie in a theater when it first came out, it's the first and only time I've ever seen and been apart of a standing ovation for a theater movie.
I understand and empathize with why Jenny did the things she did. I also believe her treatment of Forrest and a lot of the decisions she made were wrong. It doesn't have to be either/or. She was a well-written, complex character in what is a pretty much perfect film. Also, on another note: "You still, Lt Dan" will always get me.
people always call it hate but it's just dudes calling out her BS they ain't thinking like a woman in what they can get away with, no pass or excuse to do wrong they coming from their point of view where no matter what abuse endured everything is still on them ya know better as a man no matter any mental trauma, same reason if a man and woman get black out drunk everything is on the man
27:00 "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to thier Mamas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That is a bad thing. Thats all I have to say about that."
I say it on every video, whether I’m watching again or watching a reaction, this is one of the few movies that makes me cry every time. I watched it at a young age and it has shaped who I am and how I am in many ways. Definitely a masterpiece imo💯
Hey Sully2001! Forrest Gump is 1 one of those movies that MOST people can connect with on an Emotional level (not just you)! And I love how Forrest showed the upmost loyalty to those closest to him! I think that is a character quality we can all admire, and try to apply in our own lives! For me Personally, I often connect with this movie because my brother actually has Autism (So Forrest and my brother can relate a bit since they are both disabled). I also just wanted to mention that I actually posted a video on my RUclips channel that is almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). You see, there's a band named Family Of The Year, and they used their hit song "Hero" for Richard Linklater's 2014 movie called Boyhood. For my video, I used "Hero" as background music while showing various scenes from Forrest Gump. If you have a few minutes sometime and happen to be Interested, here is a link to the video: ruclips.net/video/Or-sIiNANYg/видео.html If you don't check it out, then No worries at all! I certainly will Not be offended! But Thank You So Much in advance if you do see it! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to you and yours, Sully2001! Have A Great Day, and Stay Awesome! :)
Same people love Will Hunting. Hypocrites.
She wasn't running from life she was running from abuse life is not about abuse
Gary Sinise, the actor that played Lt. Dan, was so affected by this role he became deeply involved in Veteran organizations. He started his own foundation for vets, The Gary Sinise Foundation. He also tours with the USO to active duty shows around the world with his band, The Lt. Dan Band.
Wow I love that so much. The way that will impacted him and what he chose to do after. I love hearing things like this. Thanks for sharing
There's also a thank you video for Gary Sinise on RUclips for all the hard work he does for the vets. Pretty cool.
He is also the voice in the museum telling the story for Captain America :D
I just seen that Gary Sinise thru his organization flew 3 Delta planes down to Disney World full of kids & spouses who have lost their dad in war. He does amazing work!!
Gary is a good man. We should all strive to like him. I mean that to all men and women.
Forrest asking if his son is smart or not breaks me every single time. Best movie.
Absolutely. It was so wholesome in the heartbreaking at the same time
Yeah. It's the confirmation that he completely understands the challenges he's faced in his life, in his own way. He faces everything so head-on it almost seems like he's ignorant of how others think of him and treat him, but that moment shows that he knows. And he doesn't want his son to go through it.
As someone with severe ADHD (I honestly think I'm on the spectrum a little) and a wonderful child it makes me cry every time lol
Yes! That part always gets me hard.
Hanks played that scene perfectly
Forrest's speech about the war was "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing." according to Tom Hanks.
So damn sad but true
That extra meaning hits hard. Soldiers died over there but a lot of our vets never came back mentally.
I'll never forget when I finally realized the significance of Forrest seeing the birds fly away after he visits Jenny's grave. God answered the prayer she made when she was a little girl to make her a bird so she could fly away
There's also the scene where Jenny is on the balcony railing about to jump and "Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd is playing in the background.
that comment made me cry wow.. i've watched this movie multiple times and never realized that
thank you for that
And those birds were a complete coincidence as well! They were just filming some footage of Tom walking away from the gravesite and the birds just happened, everyone was kinda awestruck and nobody messed up the take/footage so they put that into the final film since it was so perfect. At least that’s what I heard from “behind the scenes” shows that were on back in the day.
I never noticed this!
"god" lol
I found the murrican.:P
I always cry when Forrest finds out he’s a father and his immediate thought is “is he smart or is he like me?”
For me, that scene alone made him won an Oscar. What an actor he is. One of the greatest ever hands down.
That’s real💜
the truly sad part is society told Forrest he wasn't smart but he is, Hes a University Graduate , Ping pong World Champ, Highly decorated Vet, Co-Owner of Apple Computers , Owns Bubba Gump Shrimp and owns a 200 year old Plantation.
As a person who has autsism when i had my daughter it was a fact that kept me up at night till she was born shes perfectly healthy and it makes me so relieved
"Bubba was my best good friend, and even I know that ain't something you can find just around the corner."
So true
People who do not love themselves are capable of loving others, but are not capable of accepting the love of others. Jenny is the embodiment of this.
100%❤❤
Nixon resigned because of the Watergate scandal. Which, in the scene here, it was from Forest calling the security/front desk that the flashlights were keeping him up. Something I never noticed until now (probably seen the movie 20 times) is that Lt. Dan tells him that the day Forest becomes a shrimp boat captain is the day he becomes an astronaut, and then Lt. Dan ends up having prosthetic leg made from the same material Nasa uses. Not sure if that was intentional but thought it was kinda cool.
Gary Sinise, the actor who plays Lieutenant Dan, and Tom Hanks both go on to play astronauts in the movie Apollo 13 the following year as well.
In the book, Forrest became an astronaut.
I think Jenny is one of the most accurate depictions of what childhood absue does to an adult. I hate that so many people hate her as a character. She's not evil, just broken.
100% agreed. It's quite heartbreaking to see the amount of hate she receives
I felt this comment as a survivor of child abuse. The way Jenny behaved made sense to me as a kid, because my default is "nobody is safe". When your own mother beats you from your earliest memories, who can you trust?
@@maureenseel118 I'm so sorry.
I think her abuse is why she left Forrest after they had sex. She felt she had taken advantage of him like her father had taken advantage of her..
@@smylerthedamned9549 On point!
@@imajinallthepurple check out "Second Hand Lions" for another fine performance. And its a really nice movie.
And the story is true! Tom Hanks talks about it on the Graham Norton Show and it's a wonderful interview/retelling!
You're sympathy for Jenny was a relief. Too many people cant understand her trauma. Much appreciated.
Of course. I wish more people paid more attention. All the answers are right here in the movie.
@@FrankFreezy_ agreed
I had a girlfriend also named Jenny and I loved very much and I asked her to marry me she said no and moved out a few days later. She had a rough childhood, her brother who was two years older than her and was her shoulder to lean on died tragically at twenty. Her dad was not a very good guy. I talked to her mother after she left and her mom said that Jenny won't let anyone really love her and pushes them away in fear of them leaving. It took me awhile to come to terms with that.
Jenny was the worst Poor forrest
@@richardanonimo90 have fun trolling...
I almost cried when you said "I hope no one treats him bad." I hope no one treats you bad Frank. you're too nice
🥺aww you’re awesome. Wishing you nothing but blessings. Merry Christmas.
So many veterans wrote to Gary Sinise saying that his portrayal of what it’s like to be a Vietnam veteran spoke to their souls, that it permanently changed the trajectory of his life. He now works closely with veterans as one of the most effective advocates for their needs. So not only is this a heartwarming fictional story, but it’s one that positively changed the lives of many people
That is absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing that info. I'm happy he's doing that
And he started a band- Lt. Dan Band
They do USO shows for the troops & raises money for vets.
A "million dollar wound" actually means something that is serious enough to get you taken out of combat service but at the same time NOT serious enough to leave any permanent noticeable damage.
ahhhh lol for real thanks for explaining that. I thought it was just put in there for comedic effect. I had no idea was an actual term
@@FrankFreezy_oh man same here ngl. (Not gonna lie)
Right in the but -tocks
Think like in the arm or leg but doesn’t hit the bone or as in the movie in the ass lol
That’s a really good point I never even considered!
I thought of that too 😊
I always like to think he returned to Vietnam after the war and made peace that his destiny wasn't to die there, and could see some of that beauty Forrest was talking about.
And he is standing because he was in a chair for a long time.
Wow. Exactly. And I love that he mentioned that he only got that because he did what Jenny asked him to do💛
@@FrankFreezy_ not only is it the highest honor it isn’t given out just willy nilly very few people have it in real life. For the most part people usually don’t get to accept it, because what they did to deserve it takes their life, not all the time but sometimes.
The only way to get this medal is to to something hero like
Well but you only can reach that hero act if youre already in war
so in the end this medal is still an hypocrite medal
Cause war is never good and non of medals of honor were given out of defending.
You see Jenny leaves the medal for him before she runs out on him after they slept together.

Forrest saying "that's all I have to say about that" is really strong. He can talk about everything in his life, but when it comes to his really painful memories, he stops the story. Great reaction!
That is a very good point. Shows how much that hurts. Thanks for watching
Finally! Someone who pauses the film, makes their point, and resumes it. So many reactors miss important moments because they're talking. There’s so many emotional parts in this movie, but one of my favorite little details is that the bus driver is chewing gum at the end, not smoking. Shows the time that passed in terms of society becoming more health conscious, and also she was making steps forward and seems happier.
I love this small detail too

55:26 Jenny at the start of the movie said she wanted to fly away. At her grave. You see birds flying past symbolising she was finally at peace

When it comes to Jenny and consent, the way she was raised really comes to the forefront. In her mind unprovoked physical contact is a part of “love.”

No matter how many times I watch this I'll always tear up a little bit when Jenny passes, such an amazing film
That’s real. They deserved to be together longer💛🥲
Beautiful and sometimes funny movie.
a very good point. That's why he was positive the whole time
It means so much to me to hear that you immediately grasped how forward Jenny was and the concept of consent.
Lt Dan got legs made of the stuff they use for astronauts. So he in a way kept his word when he told Gump, "the day you become a shrimp boat captain, I'll be an astronaut!"
Love that detail.
Thank you for saying this ❤
Thank you, I keep finding new things about this movie that I previously missed.

18:36 When Jenny says: "Forrest, you don`t know what love is!" she actually means that if he knew what love was, he could never love someone like her.
She isn`t belittling Forrest but herself.
Sweet reaction. Forrest has the same pure hearted honesty as some of our animal friends but in human form. It's so touching and inspirational.
Haha for real though! I totally agree. Thanks for watching.
He’s like a golden retriever!
That my friend, was one of the most heartfelt reactions to any movie that I have ever seen. Thank you for bringing insight and passion to such a wonderful movie.
Wow Many thanks. I highly appreciate it🧡 many more to come
This reaction video of yours appeared in my feed and I must say, I absolutely loved your commentary, perception, and analysis of the different themes. I really enjoyed everything you said.
Much respect. I’m very happy you found my video. Thank you so much. So so many more videos to come. I think I’m starting to find my people on RUclips, or rather, they’re starting to find me 🙌🏾
I love someone very similar to jenny, a deeply hurt person that can't give me love until she learns to forgive and love herself.
I live in Scotland and working in therapeutic horticulture with military veterans. It's always interesting the stories they tell.
There's not many movies out there that can make me shed tears multiple times but this one certainly can.
This is a must see
This is my first time watching your reaction, and I loved your thoughtful, kind commentary and presence. Subscribed!
First of many. Thanks. Happy to have you here 😊💛
And this is such a beautiful movie and an inspirational movie. Forest Gump has done a lot in his life and he is such a thoughtful person, loyal person, humble person, kind person, selfless person, and an all around round nice guy and a kind hearted person.
This is, by far, the most insightful reaction I've seen. Thank you. ❤
You are so welcome💛 thank you for watching
We could all learn a thing or two from Forrest Gump❤️
ah I have heard of the Watergate scandal/conspiracy. But I'll definitely look into it more.
Thanks for watching mate
Robert Downey Jnr said it best in Tropic Thunder.
I think it’s so important to see that Forrest while he accomplishes so much in his life and does all these big things, doesn’t care about them at all. It’s just stuff happening around him, but he knows what his priorities are. He just cares about his friends, his mama, and his Jenny.
I love this so much. Yes I agree. He focuses on what's important
There is an enlistment contract to army. Standard 4 years active and 4 year inactive duty(reserves). But depending on the job you sign up for, it can range from 2 to 6 years.
Interesting. Thanks for the info 🙏🏾
After so many years this movie still makes me tear up. It's as close to perfect as a movie can be. Truly timeless.
I agree
"Everyone needs a friend like Forrest."
Dunno, man. Your comments are so positive and compassionate and wholesome, I bet my life that you are friends think that they are very lucky. :)
Love your intake on this. Watched this movie a million times. Really liked your commentary.
I appreciate that. Glad you enjoyed it.❤❤
I had to subscribe the first few minutes!!! Your whole persona is amazing ❤ Genuine and sweet. Also, super perceptive and insightful. Great reaction, I've enjoyed every minute of it! 😊
Let’s gooo. Much love. I’m glad it was a great watch for you. I’m glad I’m finding people that appreciate how I love to connect. Thanks for watching 💜
I have seen this movie many times, but I enjoyed seeing it again through your wholesome eyes. Stay pure.
Much love🧡🧡
legit i cant help but cut onions when he talks at her grave ....such a genuinely pure person who has experienced so much joy and and SO much pain
Very well said🥺❤️
Very good reaction.
I will subscribe.
Awesome thank you!
Tears coming down everytime.
It deserves it

I first saw this movie back when I was in my early teens, bu I've re-watched it a few times since. In my early 30s, it makes me think that while Forest was cursed with some developmental disability, he wasn't cursed, like most people, with the complicated mental struggle. There are so many good people I know whose lives are ruined or complicated by mental struggles that mostly seem to come out of nowhere.
As a kid I've always hated Jenny but being an adult I never felt so sorry for her😔
Thanks for saying this❤️ You now understand.
People think Jenny chose that life over Forrest. But she just always thought she didn't deserve Forrest..
What do you mean ? she came back to him only when she had aids then died
Where is the compassion exactly
It's real.
Well she also had Big Forrest in front of her her entire life who actually cared for her but she ignored him until it was too late.
@@garycollins7750 She didn't ignore him. She didn't feel like she deserved him, because people who go through that kind of trauma often think they're damaged goods. She likely thought that she wasn't good enough for him.
But thanks for being an example of people not understanding Jenny, just as I said.
@@garycollins7750
It's hard to understand until you are in that situation.
Out of the mamy small things she does under the surface that shows it that many others will mention, very few people talk about this,
What did she do when she found out he went to Vietnam?
Protested the war.
She didn't protest the war because she was against it.
She was scared to lose him.
I'm always happy that's majority of people out there actually understand Jenny and don't just hate her. So thank you for this comment
@@FrankFreezy_ i agree with the latter statement for sure. couldn't have said it better myself.
That is freaking amazing. Thanks for sharing that story. Shout out to Terry Fox
@@FrankFreezy_ your very welcome 😁
I always thought that this was why he was there. She was in AA, holding down a job, a mom, etc, AND in Recovery.
I love this little detail.
Very nice my friend, I Brazilian and I was looking for something funny to watch and train my English I found you, thanks
I’m glad you found me. You English sound great😁🙌🏾
This movie brought me genuine Joy. Thanks for watching❤❤Let me hear your thoughts down below and also any recommendations you have
With Tom Hanks "Cast Away"
A Sci-Fi with a twist "The Lawnmower Man"
Action-Comedy "Beverly Hills Cop 1, 2, 3"
Supernatural thriller "Dragonfly" (2002 film)
You had one of the most kind, thoughtful, and empathetic things to say on this film. I love this movie- probably in my top 5. Most reactions have minimal empathy for Jenny and what she’s been through and you had so much understanding and lack of criticism. First of yours I’ve seen but I’m immediately a subscriber. Can’t wait to see more of your videos!
I really enjoyed your reaction. It was nice seeing this epic movie from the perspective of a kind human being that’s not from the states. We loved it along with you!
Loved your reaction thanks!! .. sorry to be a fool now but, your mic isnt mixed well ,, you are a bit to loud looking forward to your next reactions
I wanna tell you that just by seeing your reaction to this legendary movie I can tell you are a rare, one in a million, beautiful, intelligent, emphatic and Forrest Gumpy kinda guy who sees the world through your heart. Thank You! ❤
When Jenny says “I wish I coulda been there with you” and he says “you were” damn. That kills me every. Single. Time
This story means a heck of a lot to me and so many others. I’m glad you enjoyed it and cherish it the way I do! Great job on the reaction man, I think we could all be a little more like Forrest
Well said my friend. Well said. We could all learn anything or two from him. Thank you for watching

Some people don't stop talking through their films reactions, as a result they miss a lot of important details. Your reaction to the movie was great. Keep going with this channel.
Little Forrest (aka Cole from The Sixth Sense) had to be the finest child actor of his era.
7:55 when you said THAT was emotional, I was like wrap it up ladies and gentlemen. He's going to need a Goretex jacket.
lol 😂🥲
Tom Hanks said that his accent came from the little boy that played forest. He actually talked like that and they found it fascinating. How he spoke so Tom Hanks modeled his speech in the way he spoke after the little boy and it's Southern Louisiana.
This hit hard, I lost my mom to brain cancer recently but thank God for my daughters. ❤️
My dad lost his leg during Vietnam and he never let it change him, beat dad ever.
Lost my brother to brain cancer, terrible disease.
Classic movie indeed. It is one of those movies I wish I found earlier. And yes, thanks for watching
Also, on another note: "You still, Lt Dan" will always get me.
people always call it hate but it's just dudes calling out her BS
they ain't thinking like a woman in what they can get away with, no pass or excuse to do wrong
they coming from their point of view where no matter what abuse endured everything is still on them
ya know better as a man no matter any mental trauma, same reason if a man and woman get black out drunk everything is on the man
27:00 "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to thier Mamas without any legs.
If you have a few minutes sometime and happen to be Interested, here is a link to the video: ruclips.net/video/Or-sIiNANYg/видео.html
If you don't check it out, then No worries at all! I certainly will Not be offended! But Thank You So Much in advance if you do see it! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to you and yours, Sully2001! Have A Great Day, and Stay Awesome! :)
Seeing your reactions to this movie really shows you are i kind soul sir. God bless you!
So nice of you. Bless you too 🙏🏾❤️
Fantastic commentary and thank you for being so understanding about Jenny, most aren’t
My pleasure! Jenny is one of the best characters in this movie, she was just dealt the bad hand from life.
The accent comes from the kid actor who played young forest, he was from Mississippi.
