Synopsis
Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) walked the mile with a variety of cons. He had never encountered someone like John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a massive black man convicted of brutally killing a pair of young sisters. Coffey had the size and strength to kill anyone, but not the demeanor. Beyond his simple, naive nature and a deathly fear of the dark, Coffey seemed to possess a prodigious, supernatural gift. Paul began to question whether Coffey was truly guilty of murdering the two girls.

Here's a virtual hug for anyone who needs it during this movie🫂💚
This movie is obviously a tough watch, but it is by far one of the best movies I've ever seen in my life, so far. THANKS FOR WATCHING❤🫡
(This is a REUPLOAD because youtube took down the video for copyrights)
Shawshank Redemption With Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, is up there aswell ❤
You should still read the book so you know everything has you're meant to
You truly have a great heart sir may you be blessed
You got it wrong she doesn't curse it's not in her nature the tumor is causing it
Lets all acknowledge that the actor that played Percy was great in his role. Every movie an actor/actress plays the bad guy, and that is what makes us FEEL!
He married a 16 year old kid when he was 51. Might just not have been acting...
@albertaguy4817 I think wild bills actor needs more love, he somehow made the character truly vile but also made us laugh. I can't think of many villains with such a humorous undercurrent
51:21 Melinda was swearing because she had a brain tumor and would have episodes where she wasnt "herself", it's not so much the swearing but that he knows Melinda wouldnt choose to use those words- its the tumor pressing on her brain
Good to know. Thanks for explaining this
If you read the original story, she was actually possessed by a demon that John Coffey releases from her. This demon is what caused her sickness
Michael Clarke Duncan deserved an Oscar,Bafta and Emmy for his portrayal of John Coffee.
John Coffey. Like the drink, just not spelled the same.
he didn't. The Emmys are awarded for TV not movies
You have the best moral reactions. Thank you and good job.
Wow, thank you. I won’t you down😄🙏🏾
1. It wasn't sadists from the public who witnessed the executions. It was mainly journalists, victims' families and I'd assume certain government officials as well. There was no video evidence or anything after all, so they were there to ensure and be witnesses, that the execution had in fact taken place and the criminal wasn't secretly still out there.
2. When Hal is telling Paul about Melinda swearing, it's not him being some unempathetic prude, clutching his pearls cause a dainty woman with cancer dared to express discomfort/pain. It's him telling Paul about the effect the tumor is already having on her brain. Impeding normal brain functions. Depending on where a tumor is, it can cause people to have entire shifts in personality and behaviour. It's not like the rest of us swearing because we hit our toe against a table leg or are giving birth or whatever else. It's not "ow, I'm hurting"-swearing.
When I saw this film, for the first time, I felt so many emotions from anger to sadness and everything in between, I didn't know how to explain how I was feeling. As I see you and others react to THIS film, I feel more emotional than I did from the first time I saw it. I cried WITH YOU and as YOU ALL EXPERIENCE this film. For myself, your reactions HUMANIZES ME EVERY TIME. I thank you, as well as the OTHERS, for your BEAUTIFUL REACTIONS. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much for saying that. I'm glad we can all watch something together and feel these emotions together
“I mean let’s call a spade a spade, it’s slavery” exactly right, and it’s still happening to this day.
Kind of random, but I love the chemistry between Tom Hanks and Gary Sinise. Whether it’s the green mile, or Forrest Gump. They mesh so well together on camera.
I agree 100%
This is an amazing film! An honorable man, corrupt men and a miracle yet tortured, innocent and sweet man! Stephen King wrote this as well as Shawshank Redemption. Amazing films! Makes me cry every time
I'm going to check that out soon
Sad to see your original video was taken down. 😢
Yeah. Sad indeed. But it’s all good. This video has the same essence✨ and thank you for checking out this one again🫶🏾
Sad to see that's not in the Title
@@MoMoMyPup10 I don't understand why that would make you sad, though. Did you see the first one and feel personally offended that you were not informed of it being taken down and needed that validation to help you heal?
@MellowMaromi I think it's a case of people watching these reactions and looking for an authentic reaction so they can feel like they're watching the content all over again themselves. It's not the same when you know the person already watched said content. I personally don't watch reactions to things I know the creator has seen before.
@@katkat7828 It's the same reaction, just reuploaded in two parts.
U got a heart of pure gold my friend you wear all your emotions on your sleeve and im glad u show it.. this movie made me cry aswell im gonna say it loud and proud i love you my brother and hope u get what a great human being like your self deserves. unfortunately this is missing in people today ( compassion on a real level) so from this middle aged white man from England i say i love you brother.. stay strong and be safe ❤
Best in peace, Michael Clarke Duncan, you will be missed. John coffee will live forever in all of our hearts
💜💜
His wife cursing was a symptom of her personality being changed due to the tumor. That used to be mistaken for possession.
When I first saw this, in middle school, it made me go and read the book. Gotta say, while you can't cover the book entirely, what they did was beautifully done. Stephen King truly created an amazing story
This Is my favourite depiction of a book, they nailed it
Convinced that if you don’t cry while watching the green mile you don’t have a soul 💚🥺
I've watched many reactions to this movie. Your's is definitely one of the best. I'm definitely going to hit the subscription button
I appreciate you
For other GREAT Tom Hanks movies you definitely need to see, add The Terminal to the list. It's an underrated classic and Hanks is, as always, AMAZING.
I'll check it out!
Yes!!!! Second that!!! Also Catch Me If You Can!!!!
Saving private Ryan was also a great one!
You cannot go wrong with Tom Hanks. A very good, and criminally underrated, movie of his is Road To Perdition.
I've heard that movies great. Thanks for bringing it up
This is a phenomenal movie, and a complete tear jerker, I have seen this over 20 times, and still cry at it every time I watch it. Tom Hanks character in this movie does a great job of suffering from a urine infection, I am disabled and had many of them in my 34 years being disabled, and it really does feel like you are pi$$ing razor blades.
I'm really growing to appreciate your vibe and your view on these great works more and more. This 2 dimensional medium is all that's needed to connect us all together. You're such a great human and I appreciate getting to know you this way. Grace and peace to you.
I lost my heart. Thank you so much. I'm glad that I have this medium to connect with you all and appreciate what we all love. Thanks for watching and for the support❤❤
You get it mate! The nuances and tone... you can catch and feel mate!Morality in this one... asks so much on whether you would speak up and try and do the right thing! Or keep the man's tragic wishes and end the pain!
Absolutely. The morality part is so real. Thanks for watching man
My favorite character is Eduard Delacroix just because he’s played by the late Michael Jeter. He was such an underrated actor and it’s unfortunate he passed at the age of 50. We missed out on more work from a great talent
Too right. MCD's death was too soon but so was Michael Jeter's. Both great talents
I know it was a "silly" role but I adored him in Sister Act 2!
One of my all time favorites! No one writes a nefarious character quite like the master of story-telling, Stephen King. As far as the death penalty goes I am with Einstein on this one, "No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it".
Albert Einstein
BTW, a UTI definitely feels as if you are pissing razor blades! lol
Other Tom Hanks movies you may wish to watch: "Big" (very early one in his career), "When Harry Met Sally," "Sleepless in Seattle," and "The Road to Perdition." Just when you think Percy couldn't stoop any lower, be any meaner, lose the totality of his humanity, he earns the deepest plunge into the depths of Hell because of his disdain for Del.
Thanks for these recommendations
I think you meant “You’ve Got Mail,” not “When Harry Met Sally.” Both are great recommendations!
One of the many fine movies made based on Stephen King novels. Others include:
-The Shining
-Shawshank Redemption
-Stand By Me
... and many others
Have you had the chance to watch "Dreamcatcher" or "Under the Dome" yet?
@@kylienagy8381Havent seen those... but the list of Stephen King books that have been made into movies is endless... Pet Semetary.. Carrie.. It... Thinner... Apt Pupil...Children of the Corn... Misery... and the list goes on and on.
@nychris2258 I've been a King fan since the early 90's, and it makes me happy when I see another who appreciates his work. The Gunslinger/Dark Tower series is incredible.
@@kylienagy8381 Ive read a number of the books, but I appreciate King more for all the movies personally. When you really stop and consider how many of his stories have become classic movies its truly incredible.
@@nychris2258I agree. His work is almost visceral at times, and truly mindfully entertaining.
Michael Clark Duncan said that when they filmed the scene with all the guys running towards him with guns and pitchforks, he actually felt real fear. And yeah, Percy is one of the most hated men in film, right along with the warden in Shawshank Redemption. Much love 💜💜💜
Shawshank redemption is the other part of this anthology. I think you will like it. Morgan Freeman
I am definitely going to like it. Can’t wait. Morgan Freeman is a legendary.
Apt Pupil is the third movie based on the anthology.
no lie that intro had me cracking up
but I never would've thought it was for the scene it was
lol I appreciate you for saying that. Till today that intro still makes me laugh😂
Great reaction video. I think The Green Miles is, by far, one of the best films ever made.
I loved all the thoughts you shared here. You really dropped some genuine wisdom and it made this reaction extra meaningful. Subbed for sure!
Thank you so much!! i’m glad you value all those things❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for having the thoughtfulness and honesty to create this wonderful reaction of such an amazing film.
that "im in heaven" song always makes me wanna cry
There's a newer one with Tom Hanks called "A Man Called Otto".
It made me cry like a baby.
Haven’t heard of that. I’ll check it out🙏🏾
@@FrankFreezy_ It will hit you in the feels
Came to watch again. You deserve the views after that awesome reaction
You're the best!
I can really recommend the book. The film is very similar to it, doesn’t skip many situations, but it goes more in depth with Percy and people in power, as well as the story about John Coffey, his abilities, hopelessness and the situation and people surrounding that.
Just discovered your videos. Loving your thoughtful, compassionate, intelligent commentary.
Its the best movie ever..So much emotions. Back in the day i was crying for 30 min after the movie was over..No movie had ever done that. So good..John Coffey..JC=Jesus Christ..I am not a religious person but i get it.
i just realize how many good movies tom hanks did. forrest gump, the green mile, castaway, saving private ryan.
For real. So many bangers.
I loved your reaction to Forrest Gump. I loved this even more. Subbed.
Thanks for watching. Appreciate it
I am pre-commenting on this one. This is my all time favorite movie. I cry 3 times each and every single time I watch it. Judging by your Forrest Gump and Interstellar reactions, this is going to be amazing.
It’s so fascinating how a movie can have such a big impact on you. Definitely one of the best movies I’ve seen in my lifetime. I appreciate the confidence going into this one, based on the previous videos of mine that you’ve seen.
I love your reactions so much!
You have a beautiful soul keep em’ coming 🥲❤️
Aww! Thanks for being here 💛
I know this is your reaction to watching this the first time, but it it makes me both sad and proud of the movie that you thought he was guilty the entire time. 💔
"This movie's breaking us down scene by scene". Yup.
Such a beautiful masterpiece film. Percy and Wild Bill may be on opposite sides of the bars but equally evil to the core. I feel our justice system is to flawed for the death penalty. Highly against it. Thanx for the reupload, such a great film. Happy Holidays, rake care, Peace
You’re absolutely right about those two. Every day I pray me and my loved ones don’t run into people like that.
Oh, just the system is absolutely flawed to the core. The death penalty is brutal.
Thanks for watching again. Happy happy holidays 💛❤️
Simple was the kind way to say developmentally delayed or neurodivergent/autistic at the time.
This was set before antibiotics were commonly prescribed for UTIs /kidney stone infections. So even if he'd gone to the doctor, he would not have had the relief or healing John C gave him.
As a mom of a non speaking, autistic son who will probably be well over 6 feet when he's full grown, I have to be in the right space to watch this. I really enjoy your insights and voice.
Thanks for all that information. Is interesting how things have changed over time. I appreciate you for watching
The death penalty is more expensive to taxpayers than life in prison because of all the mandatory appeals and lawyer fees and the time of appellate justices with staff re-hearing the case. A case of capital punishment often goes to the State's Supreme Court. Additionally, lots of folks are later found to have been wrongly convicted. You can let a man out of prison for being wrongly convicted. You can't resurrect a wrongly convicted person who has been executed.
Took the words out of my mouth.
I just found your channel yesterday when I stumbled across Forrest Gump. So excited to see you're doing The Green Mile. Yes, the best movie I've ever seen!!
Thank you so much. I'm happy you found my channel. So much more films to come
I read this book when it first came out in a series of chapters over a year - painful to wait for each to come out (I love you Stephen King but that was painful). This is one of my favorite stories of his and one of my very favorite movies of all time. Thank you for taking a look and sharing with us- I will subscribe in hopes you do more like this 😊✌🏻
I absolutely understand the feeling of anxiously waiting for your favorite chapter to come out. Especially for a story this great. Thank you so much for watching and I would definitely do a lot more movies like this. Feel free to recommend some
If you haven’t seen The Shawshank Redemption, another Stephen King story directed by Frank Darabont, you should check that one out !!
The other guards watched the execution burdened with the weight of work at hand. Percy watches like a child watching candy be made.
Great reactions. This is one of Tom Hanks best films next to forest Gump. You should react to the first film where Tom wone his first Oscar the film is Philadelphia and also stars Denzel Washington
Thank you so much for watching. I agree. And I will check out Philadelphia very soon. Denzel is one of my favorites as well
We both be sobbin by the end. Trust me.
Oh I believe you
To see more of Tom Hanks' comedic movies, you should see some of his 80s movies. "Big", "Turner & Hooch", and "Splash" are really good ones. He also did some romantic films like "You've Got Mail", "Sleepless In Seattle", and "The Money Pit". If you can find his TV series from the earlier 80s "Bosom Buddies", I'd recommend that too.
Her being a woman had nothing to do with her cursing, you have to think about what part of the body would control that
I couldn’t help but say “pause” every time you said “Oh John…”😂😂😂
Great reaction!
I appreciate it
I dont even shed a tear for saf movies usually but this movie made me cry so much its so sad how misunderstood he was 😢😢😢
Percy has to be one of the most hated antagonists on film
You have to realize this was in the 30s. And in the deep south. That's the way they talked and believed.
Loved this reaction
💜
Hey man if you’ve never seen The Shawshank Redemption, that’s a great watch as well.
I hear you. I'm planning to watch you with another RUclipsr very soon
For real!? Dude that made my night! Keep on being awesome my guy 🤟
Ahhhh. Stephen King's best in my opinion. I really enjoy watching Tom in this, he's just awesome. Michael Clarke Duncan was SPECTACULAR! Beautifully shot and the acting was sooo good. Favourite movie of all time.
32:11 yeah, back then they actually did accurate portrayals of the times, in this case, the 1920's
I love the painting behind you. Absolutely fantastic ❤
Thank you so much 😀
I remember reading that Michael Clarke Duncan (John Coffey) was actually a bit of a gentle giant and was a pretty cool guy. He died back in 2012.
That is so sweet. I didn't know much about him when he was alive but anytime I saw a picture with him in it he was always so cheerful. Rip
You should watch Cast away. Love your commentary, you have a lot of understanding and empathy and I hope you get more views.
Your art is, well no other word for it, Brilliant!
I appreciate that a lot.
@@FrankFreezy_You are most welcome!
32:10 -- RE: The "Dog being like a Negro" scene; I have an idea which I've shared countless times in comments on other places, but I've never thought about where I might have picked up some of the pieces for its metaphorical mosaic. Perhaps this film was one such place.
Here's the idea: once upon a time, humans encountered wolves out in the world, and after much suspicion and competition, the humans noticed that there were some wolves who were friendlier than others, and they thought about how nice it would be if they could work together with them instead of against. They eventually hit upon a scheme to make Dogs out of the wolves, but before they could do it, the wolves sent them an ultimatum: they would only be allowed to make Dogs out of the wolves if some humans would also be considered as no better than Dogs. *That* is why Dogs think they are humans. That is also why we're very sensitive to the treatment of Dogs and care about how they're put down.
Yes, I mean to tell all that like it is a Fable, because... it's better to see it that way, maybe. o7
Brilliantly brutal/ brutally Brilliant
Such a beautifully told story.
Yap, one of the best I’ve ever see
Thank you Frank ,not many reactors point out the ridiculous racist analogy when John is compared to a dog ,well written scene that makes the point so well.
You’re very welcome. I try to call it as I see it.
I have to say something when you got upset with all the people watching. They are not there for enjoyment, they are there as witnesses that the sentence was carried out, ordered by the court. Yes, some of them are there as family of the victim(s) but the others as witnesses. It still happens in some States in the USA where there is still a death penalty, except that today, it's by injection. Still there are people there as witnesses (and family(ies)) too, to ensure that the sentence was carried out.
As for Percy, yes, we all hate him (which shows what a great actor he is) and of course Billy as well.
If you look at two things 1) John Coffey's initials are JC. Think about it. 2) When Melinda sees John's scars and asks him where he got them and John replies, don't rightly know, leads one to believe that he existed during slavery times. Also, when Gary Sinise (the attorney) mentions that there were no signs of John Coffey and it's as if he fell from the sky ... kinda make you think that he's more than a healer, no?
John was an innocent and an Angel
men like you give me hope
❤❤
Harry Dean Stanton plays Toot, a trusty. Stephen King named two characters after him, HARRY Terwiliger and DEAN STANTON.
Omg I loved FoxTaco I was really loving his Band of Brothers reactions, I knew he was having some issues and was taking time off but I really hope he is doing much better even if he doesn't go back to reactions.
I know right. He's amazing. He's definitely looking forward to coming back. I'll let him know
Your art is really interesting. I particularly like the one called "Heaven." The colors, the highlights, the shine on the lips. Very nicely done! What's the medium you most often use? I had to stop doing art when I developed a compressed nerve in my arm, which was heartbreaking of course. But at least I can still admire other people's work :)
Oh thank you so so much. That has to be one of the most difficult paintings I’ve ever done because of how much it required and took out of me. But is the one that I am very proud of
I use oil paint. Any other medium makes me feel like a baby learning to walk😄
I’m so so sorry to hear about your arm situation😭 I hope it gets better
I really really appreciate you 💛
@@FrankFreezy_ Thank you! My arm requires surgery, unfortunately, but I can't afford it (ahhh, good ol' American healthcare!). But maybe someday I'll save up the money.
I've never tried oil paint, but I always wanted to. I love the final look, plus it seems like fun. I just never had the money to sink into the supplies, nor a room that was big enough or ventilated enough to use paint thinner and such. I was primarily a colored pencil and oil pastel artist, though I dabbled in watercolor and other mediums. Art is such an amazing thing, so good for the soul to have that expressive outlet, and I wish you the best with your art. Cheers! :)
@@FrankFreezy_ Oh, and in case you're curious to see my art, I had an art channel called Jessie Nebulous Art where I did timelapses and such. It's on hiatus now of course, but I'm pretty proud of the videos I made before my injury sidelined me.
@@JessieNebulousGaming that makes me so angry. American healthcare is a joke. I hope you’re able to get the surgery sooner rather than later🧡
I hope you try oil paint someday. Just like every medium, there are ways to go around the expensive price tags. And also materials that are not toxic that can be used indoors. Like I said, I hope you tried it one day. I’m an art teacher, and I always love seeing the joy and our students faces when they experience what oil pain can do and what they can do with it. I would absolutely love to see your work.
@@JessieNebulousGaming I’ll go check out your channel immediately. Thanks for sharing❤
Don't forget the movies taking place in the Jim Crowe south right after slavery the racism was kept to a minimum because they didn't want the film to be dominated by that so basically the lawyer and wild Bill represented that and the chain gang at the beginning
Makes sense. Thanks for explaining
Gotta watch BIG toooo!!!!
I ball my eyes out every time I watch this film
WOW! I just finished watch Forrest Gump video's and i just looking for "The Green Mile" on your channel and here it is! Incredible! (sorry for my english, i'm french haha)
I’m glad you’ve been watching my videos and enjoying it. Your english is great. Have a merry Christmas.💛
Tom Hanks is in quite a few of my favourite movies. Love the movie The Terminal and Turner and Hooch (one of my favourite movies of all time).
I like the way they used the movie to trigger our memory similar to the way it triggered Paul’s in the beginning.
5:24 yeah they did that a lot back then, they really pissing the picture for you of what people are like in the inside, not surprise you with it later.
Your in for a ride, an your going to cry an make me 😢 again
Such a beautiful story that will break your 💔 if you're human ❤️
For a ride indeed. Letting out a good cry is always a positive😊
Percy pissed everyone off. No loss when he went.
I had the book first and took a while before I read it (usually like to read the book before the movie comes out), but had the book around the same time. Once I read the book couldn't watch the movie until about 6 months later as was so traumatised.
Bro I absolutely love your input with these movies, keep doing what you're doing. Only tip I would like to give is maybe using a less "harsh" censor beep sound effect for cuss words or at least make it less loud. It's quite distracting during some of the more emotional scenes.
After you watch this movie I don’t think you ever feel the same about this type of punishment. 😢
Real talk. It’s not right
My favorite movies based on books by Stephen King are this one staring Tom Hanks who is excellent as always, also Stand By Me (1986), The Shawshank Redemption (1994), Misery (1990), Dolores Claiborne (1995).
I love movies like this
They’re incredible
I love the artwork in the background. Is the lady with the blue headscarf for sale?
Hello there. Sorry for the late response. Thanks for asking about the painting. No it is not currently for sale because I am planning to put it in several gallery shows. However I have made Museum quality canvas prints of them if you would like that. You can check it out here in my shop:

Joe versus the volcano
It has my favourite tom hanks speech in it.
This movie is explosive
Suggestion:
Tom Hanks, in a recent interview, mentioned that his most under-rated film is "Cloud Atlas".
He also seemed quite bummed out that not many people have seen it.
"Cloud Atlas" is an interesting film. It's played by an ensemble who, as the film goes on, are shown in different time periods wrapped around a subtle central theme. The theme underlies the action and events in each time period. The ensemble cast appear in each time period interacting as very different people. I believe this is one of (if not the only) film role where one of Hanks's characters is a villain, and in "Cloud Atlas" two of his incarnations are terrible people.
Highly recommend "Cloud Atlas".
I'm not surprised that's a film he likes. I found it to be almost a nod to the secret societies that have controlled much of the power in Hollywood (and some other industries). They seem to have an agenda that transcends the generations.
Idk if Jerry Springer can be called "fantasy" - maybe Sci Fi? 🤣
Lmaoo yep cause there’s a lot of extraterrestrial shit going on in that show 🤣😭😂😆
Ur a good man
🧡🧡
RE: Fantasy as a genre description; See also Magic Realism, which is what it gets called in written form. Author: Stephen King.
^^ Also, while I'm thinking about it, Stephen King stories sometimes have weird interconnected themes, and this one is no exception. What makes John Coffey special isn't necessarily autism, but might be closer to the Shine in "The Shining". The "Dark Tower" cycle of books also seems to me to be thematically linked with ideas about righteousness and evil.
You can tell a good person by the way they react to this movie.
You my friend, are a good person, no doubt.
Much love from England.
This is in my top 10 of movies.
