I don't usually watch reactions where one person has seen the film because they usually act in a way that gives stuff away or say/do things before something happens and it's annoying, but Denise doesn't do any of that. She keeps the reaction perfect! So glad I found your account. This film is so emotional and reduces me to a tearful mess every single time without fail.
1935 was the year of the highest number of recorded executions. It's worth noting that was deep in the Depression, and all the guards were probably lucky to have decent jobs.(making the "bread line" threat more real)
Any infection can turn into sepsis if severe enough/ left untreated for long enough. Also, I'm not sure when it ended, but for a long time, doctors would tell the husband/male relative what was wrong with a woman and it was simply up to him whether or not he wanted her to know. Lurleen Wallace was a governor of Alabama in 67 and her husband was told that she had suspicious tissue growth after a C-section and he elected not to tell her so she could help him with his campaign. She didn't get immediate treatment and her condition worsened, she eventually found out but it'd already progressed and she died at the age of 41. That's why the warden knew his wife's diagnoses and had to tell her himself. 🤷♀️
I have to be in a very particular mood to be able to watch this movie. The part where John Coffee talks about how to tell God the Father that it was a kindness Boss Edgecomb was doing….OMG. “Lonely as a sparrow in the rain…..”. Especially tonight I can relate to that and it breaks my heart…
Hahaha oh goodness. Yeah, it's definitely a common trait now that people run their mouths, spewing atrocities and expect everyone to be chill. Freedom of speech is not freedom of consequence!
The saddest part is that the execution scene of John Coffey was based on real life events...the wrongful conviction & execution of a 14 year old boy in South Carolina..the line that John Coffey said about I'm scared of the dark...thats what the little boy said. His name was George Stinney. Tragic
21:37 Bear in mind, not ONLY does Hal have to live with the fact that his beloved wife is going to die, he has NO way to really tell her. Her tumor is a brain tumor, often affecting memory and sense of reality. Even if he somehow worked up the courage to tell her in one of her more lucid moments, there is little to no chance she would remember in the long term.
Precisely, this!! It's devastating to see how the tumor changes her and messes with her memory. We cannot imagine how painful this must have been for her, but also for Hal, and how helpless he must have felt...
The actor who plays that crazy wild bill is an amazing actor. He also did a great job in a movie called Box Full of Moonlight" (1996) Completely different character a good guy. An awesome performance. The movie is definatley worth the watch.
Gary Sinise the lawyer he went to see was also Lieutenant Dan with Tom Hanks as Forest Gump in The movie (Forest Gump) another fantastic movie to watch if you haven't seen it yet!
Gary Sinise is a fantastic actor, wonder why we don't see more of him nowadays! Forrest Gump is actually on our list, we'll be reacting to it very soon!
John Coffey never had a chance. 1930s, racist court system, racist defence lawyer, black man. He was convicted before anyone put any cuffs on him. This movie will always be one of the most heart breaking stories ever.
Oh absolutely - race was definitely at the core of his trial and this likely also influenced the proceedings themselves. His end destroyed us - such a pure and kind soul deserved so much better.
@@OfficialMediaKnights It is one of those movies where you are emotionally exhausted afterwards. I had read the book, I knew what was coming and still, I was wrecked the first time I saw it.
Nothing suggests the lawyer was racist or the court was 'racust'. Possible they were or weren't. But, I'd say the fact he was found with thr bodies, blood all over, and claiming 'he trued to take it back' are legit reasons to convict him. WE know the story. The court doesn't know they're in a Stephdn King story and something supernatural is around. Not everything is racism. Go watch/read To Kill A Mickingbird. THAT was racism. This story has ZERO to do with racism. Only a racist gets focused on racism when it's a non issue
I mean sure it played a part, but he was found with two dead girls in his arms and saying "I couldn't help it - I tried to take it back, but it was too late". Not knowing about his powers there's only one way most people will take that, and that's as a confession.
Thank you so much for the comment and support! We debated quite a bit, but in the end there were just too many amazing moments! Stay tuned for Part 2, it's going to be up soon!
My brother used to be a corrections officer before going into Federal law enforcement, from the time he was a guard then later as a supervisor never wanted to know what a person had been convicted of. He said he wanted to only judge a person on what he saw & how he interacted with them. When you know a person's crimes implicit bias goes into overdrive and there is already a bias from a person being convicted that exists. When people would ask him but shouldn't you know in case their dangerous? He say "Any living being put in a cage is dangerous, but to then brand them, force them into a corner & make them defensive is a much greater danger. Plus we are trained to always be aware, to never let your guard down & always be prepared something might not be as it seems." He never once had an altercation. I am not sure if that was part of his training or just our upbringing but it has served him well. I know that not every corrections officer has that same approach because of what I have witnessed working in hospital nursing. We often would get inmates that needed greater medical attention than a corrections facility could provide and some of the CO's were cruel & lacked decency. There was one inmate that came in for a DNC after being raped presumably by one of the guards since she had been behind bars when she got pregnant. She also had several physical injuries from another inmate the main reason for her admission. She had wanted to have the baby but when her family refused to assume custody she chose to end the pregnancy rather than give her child away. Every single corrections officer went out of there way to tell the nursing staff her criminal history hoping that they would withhold pain medication. Or they would tell us no give her the lowest dose possible on the range of her med order ( simply meaning a doctor may order .5ml to 4ml every x amount of hours for pain depending on their stated pain level). However while that was meant to be physically cruel they also were emotionally abusive because they would put on shows like "A Baby Story" knowing that she had been pregnant. When we tried to report these incidents we basically were blown off because not wanting a person over medicated and an inmate not liking what was on tv aren't crimes or abuse of power. The Green Mile is such an exceptional movie for demonstrating the nuance that good & bad people exist on both sides of the law. I loved this movie and the book. The Green Mile speech in the book on the last pages is among my all time favorite literary lines. It is done well in the film too.
Wow. This was difficult to read. Thank you, for taking the time to share your and your brother's experiences. This brings Brutal's line to mind - that these men had been paying their dues. A basic sense of decency and humanity has to be present, though it may be difficult due to that implicit bias you mentioned. Not digging into their crimes and getting to know the inmates as they are at the present would likely have built an easier rapport with the inmates. There are sadly too many in the law that do things for the wrong reasons - control, power and the abuse of both. And our understanding of abuse has yet to grow as it's not just the physical but also psychological and emotional abuse that can destroy minds and bodies of the victims. We tend to forget that, of course depending on the prison, that some of those people are incarcerated for more minor infractions. Then we also must consider the inequality within the justice system that leads to mishandled trials, tampered evidence etc. It's a very complex topic and certainly a difficult one to give a simple answer to. This story has captured the good and the bad within humankind so incredibly well - nuanced and with grace. The book must also be incredible. As a huge Stephen King fan, I'm (Denise) going to be ordering the book asap! Again thank you for your comment, we appreciate your candor and effort!
I remember watching this movie along side my dad as a you g teen!! Great movie, with amazing performances, and it also brings back memories! This movie is so good!!!
Aw we can only imagine!! I remember watching this when I was super young and though I didn't remember too much, I remember the feelings it showed me as a kid. This film is absolutely beautiful!
Dean also in Once we were Soldiers and Saving Private Ryan! Not in Blackhawk Down, tho some people think so. The Trustee is Harry Dean Stanton. He's been in every Hollywood movie since the silent era!😁 He was in Dillinger, outsiders, Godfather 2, Red Dawn, alien and many others.
24:07 he sounded so much like he was forrest gump again for a second lol. I absolutely love del like yes i read about what he did but hes so damn loveable and adorable lol
Harry Dean Stanton played Toot Toot, the trustee practicing the execution. Stephen King was such an admirer of his that he named two of his characters after him. HARRY Terwiliger and DEAN STANTON.
Im a new sub and going through your older stuff and I absolutely love when Denise has seen something and Ari hasn’t. The glances directly into the camera are wonderful.
22:10 - 22:18 Exact same thing I thought! 25:33 - 25:41 🤭When I 1st saw this movie all I knew was that there was this big, black man who was executed while actually be innocent...when I saw this scene I was like:"Wait...there is MAGIC in this movie???😱I had no idea!!!" 33:28 - 33:31 Percy in a nutshell.😅
It's pointed out in the book that Bitterbuck was killed on the first discharge. The doctor heard continued flutterings of Bitterbuck's heart after he was dead, and that's why they jolted him again. If you'll notice, Bitterbuck wasn't groaning or anything else the second time.
Such a beautifully directed film. Have watched and enjoyed it many times and been brought to tears every time. I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction, so genuine, real and intelligent. Am subscribing. Looking forward to more from you. Hello from Australia 😁👍
We are so glad we watched it. It’s a beautiful film with so much heart. One of those rare ones that stick with you forever. Thank you so much for watching this with us and saying hi right back all the way to Australia! ❤️
Gotta say it’s pretty up there for us too. You have the cruelty aspect of humanity but also compassion, love, and respect. It’s truly an incredibly told story. And the end wraps it up so neatly. This is one of those films that stays with you forever. And in our opinion there is no bigger sign that your art succeeded than when it leaves a mark.
Is anyone going to mention that both Hunt sisters have played Tom Hanks’s wife? Bonnie Hunt in this movie and Helen Hunt in Cast Away. Both came out within a year of each other.
Funny thing was that Brutal's actor is taller than Michael Clark Duncan. They had Mike stand on a plank or box while Tom stood in a hole in the scenes with all three😂
Fun fact, they made a platform for Michael Clarke Duncan to walk on and they made his bed and Sparky smaller to make him seem taller as Michael Clarke Duncan was 6ft 7in and John Coffey was 7ft tall
That's movie will be studied in college if im not wrong ✊🏼 R.i.p to the child of real life story and R.i.p to the beautiful actor play the role very well Michael Clarke Duncan
I was getting anxious as I was watching because there wasn’t enough time for all that was left thinking “they can’t cut this o that scene”. I was so relieved when I realised it was two parts
John Coffey is a Christ figure. He appeared out of nowhere, as if he had just “fallen out of the sky.” He had foreknowledge of future events. He can see the good or evil that is in men’s hearts. He can heal illness and afflictions and resurrect the dead (if it’s not too late). He is innocent, with a pure soul, yet he is made to suffer and die because of the sins and wickedness of others. And even his initials are J.C., just like Jesus. (Note the scene when John is watching his first ever “flicker show” and the light from the movie projector is shining from behind, illuminating his head just like a halo - the symbolism is unmistakable.)
Great choice of movie. Great reaction. I like you. Unfortunately, I'm not too interested in most of the series you're following, but when you do a great classic movie like this one, I'll be back.

@@OfficialMediaKnights I would have to say Percy as well because even though the warden was evil as hell at least he had a motive which was the money and not wanting to get caught. Percy on the other hand was doing it all simply because he enjoyed it. Truly sadistic.
I immediately clicked off a comedy reaction from another channel when this came up on the feed. This is definitely up your alley. The book isn't too bad either.
I've never done it, but I've always had a huge fear that I might start bust out knee slap laughing at a funeral. I used to do it in church, class, family gatherings. I guess I'm just able to keep my crap together at the most solemn of gatherings, thank God. When Paul makes the comment about it, I'm always reminded of that fear.
Oh my goodness, definitely can relate to that fear! Laughing in stressful situations is actually not that uncommon of a response, so it makes sense that he wanted to nip that in the bud! Nobody needs to hear someone laughing whilst strapped to a chair, awaiting their imminent ending...
Added to our list! Thank you for the suggestion and for watching with us. This is an excellent choice for someone's favorite film. This one will stick with us forever ❤️
Some people may ask why Paul didn't just use penicillin for his UTI. Well, although it was discovered in the 1920s, it wasn't mass produced until the mid 1940s, about 10 years after his UTI. In case it's not obvious, the "judges" and "politicians" who came to see Del's mouse perform were just employees of the prison, such as janitors, etc. They just needed to get Del out of there so they could do the rehearsal of the execution without him being there. Speaking of Del, they don't say it in the movie but his crime was raping, murdering and setting on fire a young girl. Then, that fire caught the next door building on fire which killed six more people. They left this out, I suspect, because it would be harder to feel sympathy for Del if we knew how horrific his crimes were. Even so, when Del says "I wish I had met you guys somewheres else" it always gets me in the feels because it makes you think about how different a person can be under different conditions.
"Dale &aped and murdered a young girl before starting a fire, which caused the deaths of six more people (including two children), which led to him being sent to death." (novel) Stephen King.
The UTI cure: even though it took a moment - this is the first time I saw a reactor go from "WTF! what kind of movie is this?!" to catch on: "oh yeah, stephen king"...
This movie I only watched once about 20 years ago and I will never watch this movie again. This movie is incredibly great, but it breaks my heart and makes me cry a lot...
In my opinion this is one of the most beautifully shot movies ever . I can't watch it anymore Because it makes me so sad 😅. I even tear up when I watch the reaction channels watchi the movie. The acting between everybody is phenomenal
John is every good and moral black man in America. P.S. An if John lawyer wasn't so immoral maybe John might have healed his son. Michael should have won an Oscar for playing John Coffey! Oh and there is a story about a Roman soldier who helped kill Jesus that was cursed to live until Judgement Day too.
Phenomenal movie, loved it, everytime I watch it, I cry, and anyone who says they don't or didn't cry at this movie is either lying or they have no heart. I know exactly hoe Paul Edgecombe feels, I'm disabled and have had urinary infections before, so I know exactly what he was going through, and pissing razorblades is exactly what it feels like.
The guy who plays Percy is actually a pretty creepy human in real life. He married a 16 year old when he was in his late 50's they maid a show about it I think.
I’ve always liked the coincidence of having actor Harry Dean Stanton in a movie with two characters whose names are “Harry” and “Dean Stanton”. Makes me wonder if Stephen King used the actor’s name as inspiration for the characters’ names.

Percy is like a lot of people on the internet today. They have never been punched in the mouth and it shows.
It was indeed Thomas Newman! He's my favourite composer, his creations always hit such a soft spot in me.
The actor who plays that crazy wild bill is an amazing actor. He also did a great job in a movie called Box Full of Moonlight" (1996) Completely different character a good guy. An awesome performance. The movie is definatley worth the watch.
He plays a character you hate in Green Mile, and a character you love in Galaxy Quest, and a character you love to hate in Iron Man 2.
In Box full of moonlight hes just awesome and amazing.
Sam Rockwell is also excellent in Moon.
He's also great in 7 Psychopaths and Mr. Right both black comedies.
The Way Way Back is also an amazing one with Sam Rockwell. Wish more people knew about it.
If you look at the actor credits, I was able to count at least four people that were both in this film, and 'Shawkshank'. 😉
Yesss!! Darabont loves working with the same cast! You can also see many of them in The Mist and even the Walking Dead!
Real people reacting to a great film. Hats off yall.
Thomas Newman's music is just amazing, as it always is . Perfect accompaniment to this classic.
Yes!!! His work is so beautifully versatile but also always carries his signature. Absolutely love his work!
Here due to the Reel Rejects interview! 😊
You are the best guys i love you honestly
Thank you for keeping more of the film in ❤
2 parts. great decision. can't wait. wonderful reactions/commentary's!
Thank you for the information.
Every few months I pick a RUclips couple to watch movies with, y’all are it for a while, and also great! Greetings from Tennessee 🖤
"I don't need no radar, I can tell! I just listen to the wind; it said, "fifty-nine, nail him!" ~Walter Crow Horse played by Graham Greene
Dale was Mr. Noodle in Elmo's world. Love that
great reaction guys cant wait for part 2! p/s: next movie recommendation, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
Thanks so much for your support and kind words, it means the world to us! Also wooow that's a fantastic recommendation, thank you for that!
This might be my favorite Stephen King adaptation. Besides IT and Shawshank redemption
"He paid what he owed.. He's square with the house again.. So keep your goddamn hands off of him!.."
One of my favorite lines.
Michael Duncan. May you rest in peace kind Sir
One thing about this movie I say to myself every time I watch this. Dogs never attack for absolutely no reason.
A RUclips reaction essential at this point
24:07 he sounded so much like he was forrest gump again for a second lol.
I absolutely love del like yes i read about what he did but hes so damn loveable and adorable lol
Screenplay was written by Frank Darabont who also wrote the screenplay for The Shawshank Redemption
Darabont really brings Stephen King stories to life. The two you mentioned, and also "The Mist"
Ok I am awaiting part 2. You guys are among the top 5 reaction makers of movies I like. Here again you have made it.😀
Aww that means the world to us! Can’t wait to share part 2 with you. It’s coming out soon! ❤️
Harry Dean Stanton played Toot Toot, the trustee practicing the execution. Stephen King was such an admirer of his that he named two of his characters after him. HARRY Terwiliger and DEAN STANTON.
It is Thomas Newman, and he did the same score as Shawshank Redemption. Two of my favorite film scores.
percy , , that you hate him so bad, is the sign of a very gifted actor, Doug Hutchison , great actor, very under rated under appreciated
Absolutely agreed - it takes talent to make people hate you so much!
Im a new sub and going through your older stuff and I absolutely love when Denise has seen something and Ari hasn’t. The glances directly into the camera are wonderful.
22:10 - 22:18 Exact same thing I thought!
25:33 - 25:41 🤭When I 1st saw this movie all I knew was that there was this big, black man who was executed while actually be innocent...when I saw this scene I was like:"Wait...there is MAGIC in this movie???😱I had no idea!!!"
33:28 - 33:31 Percy in a nutshell.😅
Awesome ! can't wait for the rest.
Yayy thank you for coming back! Always great to see your comments! The rest will be up very soon!
This movie covers every human emotion .
It's IMO one of the top 10 best movies ever made. What do you think?
Gotta say it’s pretty up there for us too. You have the cruelty aspect of humanity but also compassion, love, and respect. It’s truly an incredibly told story. And the end wraps it up so neatly. This is one of those films that stays with you forever. And in our opinion there is no bigger sign that your art succeeded than when it leaves a mark.
Such a great film and faithful adaption of a great book.
Forrest and Lt. Dan reunites again! ))
Love watching you. Greetings from Estonia
Is anyone going to mention that both Hunt sisters have played Tom Hanks’s wife?
Bonnie Hunt in this movie and Helen Hunt in Cast Away. Both came out within a year of each other.
I can't believe they gave the best supporting to Cuba Gooding Jr. that year. Insane. R.I.P. MCD
They used elevated walkways and risers to help make Michael Clark Duncan appear to be bigger than he actually was .
Funny thing was that Brutal's actor is taller than Michael Clark Duncan. They had Mike stand on a plank or box while Tom stood in a hole in the scenes with all three😂
Hahaha no way?! That is hilarious! Movie magic at its best!
Hey, Michael was still an inch taller than Morse. But, yeah, his height was exaggerated in the movie.
Thank you so much for your support and kind words! If you have any movie recommendations, feel free to comment them, we try to get to every one!

Loved part one can’t wait for part two! You guys are so good at reacting 👌🏽 Now who do you hate more Percy or the warden in Shawshank? 🤔
Thank you so much for this wonderful comment, it means the world to hear you enjoy our reactions!
Also damn!! That's a tough question!! Though the warden was sleezy, manipulative and evil as well, I think we still hate Percy more haha. Percy's cruelty is just unmatched... But not sure! How about you?!
@@OfficialMediaKnights I would have to say Percy as well because even though the warden was evil as hell at least he had a motive which was the money and not wanting to get caught. Percy on the other hand was doing it all simply because he enjoyed it. Truly sadistic.
Yes!!! Precisely, that's it!! Percy's cruelty felt so unnecessary and vile...
Percy
Love your reaction to my favorite movie.
Since you recognized Graham Green: I highly recommend the movie "Dances With Wolves". It is a great movie.
Added to our list! Thank you for the suggestion and for watching with us. This is an excellent choice for someone's favorite film. This one will stick with us forever ❤️
Is that Lieutenant Dan in that scene when they were talking on the porch about Michael Clarke Duncan's character
Didn't know that, thank you for sharing!
Hey guys, some of the actors were also in Shashank Redemption.
Same writers producers directors and many actors also in Shawshank Redemption!
The UTI cure:
even though it took a moment - this is the first time I saw a reactor go from "WTF! what kind of movie is this?!" to catch on: "oh yeah, stephen king"...
Hahaha the entire film seemed so grounded, it definitely felt like a plot twist of its own that there was a supernatural element in this after all!
This movie I only watched once about 20 years ago and I will never watch this movie again. This movie is incredibly great, but it breaks my heart and makes me cry a lot...
I can definitely feel that. The ending is just too sad, too unfair...
That's the point. The best movies touch your deepest emotions. Stay in your feelings. Let them out.
good call on the Thomas Newman music score.
it's shocking how many films he has done the music for.
In my opinion this is one of the most beautifully shot movies ever . I can't watch it anymore Because it makes me so sad 😅. I even tear up when I watch the reaction channels watchi the movie. The acting between everybody is phenomenal
Please remember in the 1930's,antibiotics were just a dream
John is every good and moral black man in America. P.S. An if John lawyer wasn't so immoral maybe John might have healed his son. Michael should have won an Oscar for playing John Coffey! Oh and there is a story about a Roman soldier who helped kill Jesus that was cursed to live until Judgement Day too.
A UTI does hurt. I had one when I was eight. It felt like I was peeing staples .
John Coffey is a name with the initials J.C., not a accident according to an associate producer's interview I saw.
Very interesting! Yes, that seems to be the theory out there amongst fans as well, and it definitely tracks!
I love Denise's knowing looks. 😊
Percy is one of those people who needed routine percussive maintenance. With a hammer. That’s on fire
Another great movie with Doug Hutchinson is The Salton Sea. It's very underseen imho. Plus, one of my favorite Val Kilmer roles.
One of Stephen King's best story's
Can't wait for part 2!
We’ll be posting that soon! 😃❤️
The reason Paul didn't bother going to the doctor was because there wasn't much they could do. There were no antibiotics back then .
The guy who plays Percy is actually a pretty creepy human in real life. He married a 16 year old when he was in his late 50's they maid a show about it I think.
now percy just doing a good acting here or you wouldnt hate him so bad 😂 😂
Hahaha nah the actor did a fantastic job, it's tough to make people despise you this much! Respect!
Nominated for 4 Oscars including Best Picture but lost to American Beauty.
This was such an incredible film. Honestly we're not even surprised that it got nominated. Absolutely deserved it!
American Beauty has sure suffered with time
I’ve always liked the coincidence of having actor Harry Dean Stanton in a movie with two characters whose names are “Harry” and “Dean Stanton”. Makes me wonder if Stephen King used the actor’s name as inspiration for the characters’ names.
