  • Welcome to our first-time watching as we react to The Equalizer (2014).
    The Equalizer is a 2014 American vigilante action-thriller film directed by Antoine Fuqua. It is based on the 1980s TV series of the same title and the first of three films starring Denzel Washington. The cast includes Marton Csokas, Chloë Grace Moretz, David Harbour, Bill Pullman, and Melissa Leo. Washington plays Robert McCall, an ex-Marine and DIA officer, who reluctantly returns to action to protect a teenager from the members of the Russian mafia.
    As he systematically dismantles the criminal empire, McCall faces off against a deadly enforcer (Marton Csokas) and finds himself hunted by the very people he seeks to destroy. With precise and calculated methods, McCall proves that justice has no equal.
    The Equalizer is a gripping and intense thriller that showcases Denzel Washington at his finest, blending powerful storytelling with electrifying action.

    Hey, guys! So glad you watched this. I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but: I love how the books that Robert is reading mirror where his character is in the story. The Old Man and the Sea speaks to Robert struggling with who he is. Don Quixote is him as the last knight "tilting at windmills", as it were. Then, at the end, he becomes "The Invisible Man". Such smart writing.

    • @OfficialMediaKnights
      @OfficialMediaKnights  Месяц назад +51

      That’s so accurate, it’s amazing how they signalled to us where he is in his journey, using those books. Especially how he spoke of the Old Man and the Fish, and how each simply have to be who they truly are. This wasn’t just towards Chloe Grace Moretz’ character but for himself too - he, too, had to accept and be who he truly was.

    He closes the door three times as a symbol of his last internal wavering over a decision he swore he'd never make again. I also adored the "ferris wheel mind" shot. I know that feeling, and his lack of sleep, all too well. Edit: just wanted to add that I also love the end conversation between Robert and Alina: she really did have a deeper understanding of who he is, simply due to her own empathy, trauma, and ability to observe. I have no doubt that she reminded Robert of his wife in no small way. She understood his leaving and never questioned their stories diverging. It's a beautifully human moment. She knows, he knows... So good.

    I really love your reactions. One thing, and this isn't just you guys. Almost all of the reactors, especially the younger ones, miss the OCD queues. It used to be a really big cinematic trope, and isn't used much anymore, but with movies like Rainman, storytellers would show a person with extreme OCD or high functioning Autism by showing them counting and doing a lot of stuff with numbers. Movies got away from this eventually because it's not a really good representation of EVERYONE with those disorders. In this case tho, it really shows how he was able to be as good as he is at what he does, because it is a part of his psyche that lends itself well to his particular kind of work. The devil truly is in the details for someone with whom every detail can be the difference between life and death.

      @OfficialMediaKnights ABSOLUTELY! I would definitely recommend continuing with the other Equalizer movies, which both stand well on their own, but also do great homage to the groundwork laid by the 1980s TV series they're based on. However, the Denzel movie you should really check out is Man on Fire, which is a remake of a 1987 movie based on a really good book by AJ Quinnell. Not only is it directed by Tony Scott (brother of Ridley, and director of Top Gun and a slew of other Denzel movies worth watching), but the music is by Harry Gregson-Williams and has one of the best accompanying scores in any movie I've ever seen. Also, the cinematography by Paul Cameron is absolutely breathtaking!

Will keep it free of infection and help it heal faster than just a bandaid or would dressing alone

    FYI, honey has been used on wounds to prevent infection since at least the time of the Pharaohs of ancient Egypt, probably longer. There are records of it being used to dress the wounds of Egyptian nobles after battles (it was probably too expensive for commoners, though). Honey works to keep wounds from getting infected because it's completely antibacterial and nothing can live in it. That's why pure honey never goes bad, even after thousands of years. It'll eventually crystallize, but it'll never go bad.

    Honey has natural antibiotic properties and has been used to treat wounds for centuries. Just don't heat it beforehand like he did in the movie. Have a sore throat? Grab a teaspoon of honey and savor it for a while, bit by bit. Do it a few times a day, if necessary. It'll help.

    • @alyxgriffen5073

      Yeah, him boiling the honey before applying it was to cauterize the wound so it would stop bleeding. In Ye Olden Days (and not so olden), people used a red-hot poker, or other metal implement, to do the same thing. But this way, he cauterizes the wound, and then also benefits from the honey's natural antibiotic properties afterwards.

    By the way, the scene with the honey is legit. Heated honey eradicates the spores that may be present. And per the NIH: "Honey has anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It can be used as a wound dressing to promote rapid and improved healing. These effects are due to honey’s anti-bacterial action, secondary to its high acidity, osmotic effect, anti-oxidant content and hydrogen peroxide content. The use of honey leads to improved wound healing in acute cases, pain relief in burn patients and decreased inflammatory response in such patients."

    Pure honey has Anti-bacterial properties, so its great to use to treat infections, it also has anti-inflammation properties and it can be used to treat burns. Honey is very versatile plus its sticky and not easily absorbed so u can apply it and bandage it and it will do its thing for quite some time. As for why he heated it up id say to make it less goopy/sticky so it would penetrate the wound better then when it cools down it will partially solidify blocking the wound and helping to treat it.
