Because Nikon is at its knees. If it goes on like this then they will be out of business. Technically, their Z Line is so far a bummer. It’s a stupid decision from Nikon also not to open their Z Mount for 3rd party lens manufacturer. Availability of lenses is key for survival. Especially when also the FTZ Adapter is giving only a lousy performance with older F Mount lenses. Stupid Nikon, I have to say.
Stefan1968ful thank you for your opinion but the Z camera isn’t that bad. It’s a solid camera however so many people want to focus on what it “doesn’t “ do when In fact you can get good shots with the camera. In the court of public RUclipsrs opinion Nikon is crappy. I say use it and enjoy it.

Interesting.
Gerald Williams 1 second ago @Test86 One4 I own the excellent Sony 24-105mm f4, but I still bought the Sigma Art 24-70mm f2.8. Finally they understood that ergonomic is as important as quality. We don't need an enormous extremely fast lens that can't be used in real world. A nice and well engineered 24-70 2.8, boom of pre orders
Well Canon gives you a choice, you don't need to buy their 28-70 f/2, they also have an incredibly well built 24-70 f/2.8, but for many the 28-70 f/2 saves them buying three primes, and is more convenient.

I'd like to share my experience with this lens. I bought it along with the Sony A7R IVA and I changed it after few days. The reasons I did that are : - quite consistent chromatic aberration - eye AF not very reliable - dust issue inside the lens ( serious problem for a lens that should be at the top) - quite soft on the edges From this review and others I really thought this lens would have been amazing, but unfortunately it was not the case. I'll be waiting for the Sony 24-70 2.8 mark II
People keep saying that all Sony full frame cameras have image stabilization. The a7s is a full frame camera that does not have IBIS. In fact there are a handful of full frames sony cameras that do not have IBIS. Is there an update I wasn't aware of?
@@joaquinnolasco5210 Yeah but we already know that the value you get for the money is pretty shit with the Sony so it would be interesting comparing it to the Tamron which is roughly in the same price class.
M4 16 buddy, that’s why I put “best” in quotations. Also, before the Sigma came out, the GM was the best lens. The Tamron is a great lens, especially for the price, but the GM was much better.
Great video! 2 years later still very relevant: I can get the Sigma new (no 2nd hand/refurbished available around here atm) for €1100 and the 'old' GM I for €1199 refurbished (inc warranty, etc). Would love to get some opinions! Thanks
I am in the same boat. If the Sigma is within $200 of the Sony when I go to buy one of the two in March I will go with the Sony. When the price diff is that small then I would rather get the 1st party lens. When they are $500 or more apart then I will 100% get the third party.
I wonder how it fares it very low light situations. Using an A7iii, I shoot lots of corporate events where it's dim lighting for cocktail hours, and a popular thing now is casino nights. Almost as dark as night club situations. My Tamron 28-75 has trouble grabbing focus at times, and I have never tried the G Master in this setting. If the Sigma works better than the Tamron, I will definitely make the switch.
Great review. This is why I watch your channel. Yes, there is some technical stuff about the lenses, but unlike most other channels, you test these lenses out. You give comparisons and give your personal thoughts why you like the lenses. I love black and white, it can even have digital noise and still look good. Sometimes it adds to the character of the image. Colour? Yes, bold colours on the spectrum from the purple-blue to the yellows and reds, nice to see. Especially when they are so bold. Great video as always. One thought ( don’t know if others agree). Sigma seems to work well with the Sony’s and Tamron seems to work well with Nikon.
For the people who already have this lens is the focus ring really easy to turn because I just got it and idk if it’s just my model or that’s just how they made it
For someone who is not a pro photographer and are looking for good cheap lenses, and tend to go much outside in rainy and snowy days (damn norway... ) Please inform in your reviews if the lens you are testing is weather sealed. Other then that, great work! Pretty new sub, but I love following your reviews and guides
Hello, i just got the sony 24-70mm GM for fathers day and today and got to play with for a few mins before needing to go to work. I thought the lens was incredibly fast with taking the pictures. Definitely gonna give my sony a7iii a run for its money. My question is, does the Sigma also perform as fast?
@jadedpolin hello, thanks for good information. I need some opinion from you. I want to get a good camera which I’m in budget , for shooting my newborn and I have to work fast bc my baby is super alert. The thing is I don’t have a professional lighting , I use the string lights which was hanging on my windows for long time and I have small space for shooting as well.I don’t know if the sigma lens able to help shooting in this lighting condition and still give a clear crisp image or should I get the Sony 24mm 1.8? What do u think about the Sony a7iv and Sony a7iii, which one better? Is there any equipment to help for auto detect the right ISO /aperture / shutter speed? Please advise. Thanks
good lighting will make your images look much better than a better lens will.... cameras literally capture light, you need good lighting. A great lens wont make someone look good in crap lighting.,
Ok, you got me... I was on the hunt for a zoom all-rounder lens for my A7R III and 24-70 2.8 was (for me) ideal. I already have the 20mm 1.8 G lens and it is fantastic. I really don't want to swap my camera with a Nikkor 18-105 anymore. I just wanted a single main camera with two lenses. And the Sony GM was giving me the cute eyes but the price... ugh, the price... And then, this video came up in recommendations. And guess what? I have a brand new Sigma coming my way as we speak!!! Thanks dude! The next beer is on me!!!
Jared I'm a Nikon shooter and will stay a Nikon shooter the Z mount cams I have are wonderful and serve my purposes with flying colors but what are your thoughts as to when they will allow other lens manufacturers in...given the success with Sony bodies thus far
I would like to know this also. I am in the market for a new camera and have been giving the Nikon Z series some thought. But I can't get past the fact that the Z mount just doesn't have the range of lenses it should considering it is their newest tech. Yes I could get an adapter to user some of the older lenses but with Sony already having the advantage over both Nikon and Canon in this respect, i feel my money would be best spent there.
@@chomerly its depends where you are in your career. I'm a 30 year Nikon shooter with a large range of lenses so I stayed with my Nikon brand that has served me so well for decades, The Z mount gets too much slack it is in fact a better mount than Sony and its only going to mature and get better. but you do what is best for you...
I do not use UV filters, either. But, I do use Clear filters. Some of my Canon L glass is not fully “weather sealed” until you use a protective filter.
Ok ,the shot of AOC was freaking great. It captured her the she is. She leaning in to tackle the tough problems. No fluff (bokem) background, just a real honest shot. Great work. Question: should I get this lens if I already have the 28-70 f3.5. If not, what lens would you suggest. I mainly shoot street photos. Thanks home Boy, I'm from Philly also.
Funny, I came up with the same decision just by studying the numbers and results. You just confirmed this purchase. Now, the problem is finding it. I'm getting this for the A7Siii
I read one test that said the Sigma out resolved the GM on the 61mp A7r 4. and another test that said it was sharper than the new Nikon 24/70 f2.8, and new Canon 24/70 f2.8, witch really surprised me after all the talk about Canon and Nikon's bigger lens mounts being better than Sony's smaller one. and the Sigma lens being half the price it really is a no brainer. I wish I could find out how many lenses Nikon actually sold of the 0.95 lens lol, it's cool that you're getting behind the scenes with Burnie, its like watching history being made, and It looks like Burnie Sanders is really drawing in the huge crowds. and now he is leading in the poles. I wonder if he actually has a chance of winning. I never thought I would see the day that you would have a bag full of Sigma glass lol.
At 6 minutes in, the shot was taken at 5,000 ISO. Did you add any grain when processing the image? The noise/grain looks massive and way worse than I would have expected to see. I knot that's not the lens (which looks great) but even so I'm a bit surprised by the grain/noise I see there.
Great, I’ve today acquire this lents and in the first shoot this lents is fantastic, i love the color of the sigma art thanks for the review and video 👍👌
hello, I discussed with sony's users and they explained me that higher price for Sony 24-70 could be explained by three factors : sony uses titanium, more expensive but more robust to shocks than aluminium used by sigma, sony is better tropicalized and because sigma with newer technology is perhaps better than sony for photos but dual motorization of sony makes its 24-70 better for video 4K and its autofocus. what do you think, mainly for video because I have no idea what we need for video on a camera.
i know this is a year old but in short NO the sigma is much bigger on a small body throwing off the weight ratio for anybody that finds this comment & is looking for a decent zoom on APS -C around $1000 or less look into the sony 18-55mm f2.8 , sony 18-105mm f4, tamron 18-200mm f3.5-6.3, specifically the tamron 17-70mm f2.8 VC will be the closest comparable to this lens
I just sold my 24-70GM to get the Sigma 24-70and used the extra cash to buy an Aperture light and new CFExpressA card. I wish the Sigma was out back when I purchased the GM!
@@AJGalecki Hey I’m about to pick one up, have you noticed any dust issues? I’ve heard people are getting a ton of dust in the lens after a few months, I’m wondering your experience as someone shooting weddings.
One common complaint that I see on many different rating is the sealing is not the best and it is a dust magnet and you can see the dust on the lens when shooting and on pictures
Love the real world reviews Jared. Besides the lens review is a great way to better understand what goes behind the scenes of a shooting. I pre-ordered this for THE LLLLLLLLLLLLLL MOUUUUNT ALLIANCE for my Panasonic s1. And honestly my question is..if you are a Panasonic shooter, in 2 years from now, would you still consider to buy "overpriced" Panasonic lenses instead of this amazing sigma glass that works perfectly fine ? Great job as always guys 🔥🔥
still wondering how Jared shot his photo simultaneously with taking video in one time, someone please tell me. is he screenshot from the video file? but why it is so good? help me.
The Sony is 4 years old and second hand still goes for $1,400 (used) - 1,650 (like new) depending on quality. That being said, it seems like a safer option to park your money into as an investment in terms of selling.. but if you’re running the lens into the ground, the Sigma makes more sense from this perspective
Erik $1,600 and I’m sure you could use it for a year and sell it off for $1450-1500, meaning it essentially cost $100-150 to rent it for 52 weeks. That’s the interesting thing about the GM used market, moreso with Binflation these days
@@Bloodshade yeah true. With sony it's all about the quality plus the resale. I've tried selling off some of my Sigmas and it's hard to get anything close to what you paid for on those.
Light! Aziz!..More Light!..now that made me chuckle. :) This sure is one badabadaboom lens. Lucky enough to pick one up a month ago and it's sweet! Don't forget that when talking about the zoom range being 'just about enough for a portrait', teamed up with the A7R4 and shooting in cropped mode, you still have 26MP and an effective reach of a little over 100mm
Probably a weird question but a min. focus distance of 18cm would be inside the lens since its normally taken from the sensor plane. Sounds like sigmal is providing the number from the front of the lens ?
Cant speak for anyone ells but I have the GM 16-35 the 70-200 and after much testing I did have the 24-70 but that went back. It really didn't blow me away the same as, say, the 16-35 GM, the GM 24-70 really only excels (by a hair) in the in the infinity focus rendering (think mountain detail in landscapes) in comparison to the Sony 24-105 and even then it cant hold a candle to the ridiculously good 16-35GM! I have since got the Sony/zeiss 55mm, I would recommend testing/renting out both the Sigma and the Sony 24-70 as you may be surprised! I always thought Home branded expensive premium glass was the pro way to go to get top tier image quality..depending on the type of glass I am starting to doubt my thoughts!?

I bought it along with the Sony A7R IVA and I changed it after few days.
The reasons I did that are :
- quite consistent chromatic aberration
- eye AF not very reliable
- dust issue inside the lens ( serious problem for a lens that should be at the top)
- quite soft on the edges
From this review and others I really thought this lens would have been amazing, but unfortunately it was not the case.
I'll be waiting for the Sony 24-70 2.8 mark II
Great review!
Got a tamron 28-75mm last year and remains on my A7III... 24mm would've been a nice reach to have but still happy w/my tamron 🙃
I think there is still no better value than the a7iii with the Tamron 28-75 on the market. I love mine too.
if u need 24mm i prefer 24mm f1.4.
What about Tamron 28-75? I'd include it in the comparison too.
That’s what I’m curious about as well
After the 3.10 firmware nerfing non-native lenses, it focuses even slower than slow.
RidingThe RR but mines was never slow in the first place? I love my Tamron
Houston International Media r u on that firware? Cuz one of my friends owning it with the a7iii complains it is slower after the update.
RidingThe RR uh oh... guess I’ll stay off that new firmware 😂
Been waiting for an actual real review. Appreciate all your work. Thanks for your help! Definitely picking up this lens !
Luis Pinto you will love it, I do.
People keep saying that all Sony full frame cameras have image stabilization. The a7s is a full frame camera that does not have IBIS. In fact there are a handful of full frames sony cameras that do not have IBIS. Is there an update I wasn't aware of?
Finally nice to see quality 3rd party glass for the E mount. Took long enough, but not helpful to those of us who went Sony years ago.
What about comparing it to the equivalent tamron?
DJLsb Vapes isn’t it better if he compares it to the “best” 24-70 on the market now?
@@joaquinnolasco5210 Yeah but we already know that the value you get for the money is pretty shit with the Sony so it would be interesting comparing it to the Tamron which is roughly in the same price class.
@@joaquinnolasco5210 Most expensive...not necessarily the best.
M4 16 buddy, that’s why I put “best” in quotations. Also, before the Sigma came out, the GM was the best lens. The Tamron is a great lens, especially for the price, but the GM was much better.
The Tamron is not equivalent: it’s 28-75.
Bought the Sigma like 3 hours ago :D

Your simple language and your videos are very good for beginners as well as pro photographers.
LOVE FROM INDIA
😂😂😂 „Assis: Light!“ what a cool link to „The 5. Element“
Thanks Jared, went with the Sigma thanks to your advice. Cheers
I have the Sigma 14-24 f 2.8 and the Sigma 24-70 f 2.8 for my Sony A7iii:) still waiting for the 70 200 f 2.8...
markus very nice arsenal 💯
Yep, great setup.
Do you have any info when will sigma release 70-200 2.8 e mount?
Reef Oceania when 70-200 f2.8?
Do you regret not saving a little more for the sony set? I’m interested in that lineup, but worried about focusing in video.
For the people who already have this lens is the focus ring really easy to turn because I just got it and idk if it’s just my model or that’s just how they made it
So glad I'm not the only one who gets the "Aziz, Light!" comment
Leeloo offers you her protection. She supreme being.
Ha ha ha... Aziz... "Aziz... Battery". It was a good movie!!! Thanks for the good review. I just got A7iii and looking to get additional lens. 👍🍺
Sony is killing it for sony. Love my 105 1.4 and 70mm macro.
That Eye-AF blows my mind 🤯 Nice video man!
Can anybody still take pictures without eye af 😂😂
I do with my rebel t6 😂 one day my struggle will end lol
It's more of, is there any point in manual focus these days.... You're doing the same thing but 1000 times easier, quicker and more efficiently
Was that a Fifth Element reference? Because I think that was a Fifth Element reference...
Multipass!
Love to follow your reviews @Jared, they are funny, punchy and very instructive.
One of those rare paintball photographers out there, and man I've seen them go straight through cheaper lens. The good glass holds up though.
Aziz, light!
Classic!
Great video! Would love to see your photos with the 135 GM!
Very helpful review, It was very informative and useful for me! Thank you so much Jared!
now i need to pick between this sigma and the tamron 28-75 g2...
Great review Mr P. Appreciate the impartiality.
Lmao that Danny DeVito comment cracked me up! 😆 great review as always 👍
She's full of crap. Tackling nothing. Just another loud mouth fraud.
I love the Nikon 24-70. I try and stay away from the scientific talk and stick to the results I get in the real world
At 6 minutes in, the shot was taken at 5,000 ISO. Did you add any grain when processing the image? The noise/grain looks massive and way worse than I would have expected to see. I knot that's not the lens (which looks great) but even so I'm a bit surprised by the grain/noise I see there.
Well 62 MP have their downsides too
@@WuschelofDespair Very true.
Great, I’ve today acquire this lents and in the first shoot this lents is fantastic, i love the color of the sigma art thanks for the review and video 👍👌
hello,
I discussed with sony's users and they explained me that higher price for Sony 24-70 could be explained by three factors : sony uses titanium, more expensive but more robust to shocks than aluminium used by sigma, sony is better tropicalized and because sigma with newer technology is perhaps better than sony for photos but dual motorization of sony makes its 24-70 better for video 4K and its autofocus. what do you think, mainly for video because I have no idea what we need for video on a camera.
Please, can you tell us how suitable this is for the Sony A6400? SHarpness? Focus accuracy? etc? thanks
i know this is a year old but in short NO the sigma is much bigger on a small body throwing off the weight ratio for anybody that finds this comment & is looking for a decent zoom on APS -C around $1000 or less look into the sony 18-55mm f2.8 , sony 18-105mm f4, tamron 18-200mm f3.5-6.3, specifically the tamron 17-70mm f2.8 VC will be the closest comparable to this lens
I just sold my 24-70GM to get the Sigma 24-70and used the extra cash to buy an Aperture light and new CFExpressA card. I wish the Sigma was out back when I purchased the GM!
Do you regret it?
@@hawathathomas5231 not at all, ive shot a few weddings with it, performs exactly the same as the GM
@@AJGalecki Hey I’m about to pick one up, have you noticed any dust issues? I’ve heard people are getting a ton of dust in the lens after a few months, I’m wondering your experience as someone shooting weddings.
@@cementedoctopus Maybe they are more relax with not putting on lens caps? Ive never had a any dust issues, and Ive used it heavy at this point!
One common complaint that I see on many different rating is the sealing is not the best and it is a dust magnet and you can see the dust on the lens when shooting and on pictures
jared moving from RUclips to Hollywood, to DC and back. Keep on Keepin' on. Love the Sigma Art lenses.
Thanks Jared, considering this when I’m ready for a 24-70
"Unless you're playing paintball than yes" 🤣
I'm watching this just to make myself feel better about ordering this lens earlier today, haha! Thank you.
Fantastic review.
Really enjoyed and informed. 👌👌👌
Does the same apply to the Sigma vs Sony in the 70-200 f2.8? This is my next lens so curious if the Sony is worth the extra money in that zoom range.
There are many users have dust problem with Sigma. Jared, do you have the dust problem with Sigma 28-70?
"Azis light">> Five element
JARED U HAVE A TASTE FOR MOVIE
didn't know that quote is as famous in english as in french
"aziz lumière !" :D
'The Fifth Element - Aziz, light!' here on RUclips
people reported the firmware 3.10 on a7iii slows the autofocus with tamron 28-75
What's your feedback on the lens long term? Are you having dust issues like so many have complained about? Thanks
Light Aziz ... Fifth Element , John Bluthal ........
what about autofocus in video?
still wondering how Jared shot his photo simultaneously with taking video in one time, someone please tell me. is he screenshot from the video file? but why it is so good? help me.
they attach an external recorder to the camera, and still take pictures.
The Sony is 4 years old and second hand still goes for $1,400 (used) - 1,650 (like new) depending on quality. That being said, it seems like a safer option to park your money into as an investment in terms of selling.. but if you’re running the lens into the ground, the Sigma makes more sense from this perspective
agree with everything you said. i just bought a like-new today for 1,600. I don't think I could pay full price though.
@@Bloodshade Bidenflation
@@Profile.4 it’s only gotten worse since I posted this lmao

The 5th Element reference got me! I'm subscribed now.
I subscribed from the intro alone.
I use the Sigma 24-70 2.8 with EF mount on my Canon 6D Mark II - by far my favorite lens!
is the image stabilization a big deal say if i get this lens for my a-6400 ?
Why would you put a full frame lens on a apsc body?
@@TheOneAboveAll_ because the lens still works great and you can upgrae to full frame when ever
Probably a weird question but a min. focus distance of 18cm would be inside the lens since its normally taken from the sensor plane. Sounds like sigmal is providing the number from the front of the lens ?
I think you should mention the DUST issue which scratches out all the great stuff it has...
HELP! Should I consider this lens in 2023 (with a7 IV)?
