    The review is amazing..
    I looked at all the reviews posted online. And frankly, I find it unnecessary for someone using the Sigma 24-70 DG DN Mark 1 to switch to this one. There doesn't seem to be enough difference between DG DN Mark 1 and Mark 2 to sell the old lens and buy a new one.
    24-70 DG DN The corner performance of Mark 2 is slightly better than Mark 1. Contrast is improved. Apart from this, a diaphragm ring has been added. And there is 1 extra button. It is not better than its rival Sony 24-70 GM II. But it is at a very good point in terms of price.
    However, the 24-70 DG DN Mark 1 was in a much better position than the Sony 24-70 GM 1 when it was announced.
    In short, the situation shows this;
    If Sigma 24-70 DG DN Mark 1 users do not need an aperture ring, 100 grams less weight and a little more corner sharpness, there is no need to switch.
    For those who are going to buy a new lens from scratch and find the Sony 24-70 GM II too expensive; If they want to achieve 95 percent of the performance of the GM II at almost half the price, it makes much more sense to buy the Sigma 24-70 DG DN II.

    Thank you for another fabulous review. I am partial to the smoother quality of the background blur/bokeh on this lens in comparison to its predecessor and also the GM II. The mark I Sigma, just based on sample images I remember seeing, seemed to have a more sudden falloff and a harsher, busier, somewhat distracting look to the background. This new lens seems to render quite nicely.

    It's always at the Briton Piers that I realised RUclips changes my resolution to 720p 😂
    I am on the R8 as I made the purchase after watching your Canon EOS R8 and Sony A7iv videos. I am very happy with my purchase. I put the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG OS HSM Art lens on it with the Canon EF-EOS R Control Ring Mount. The image is better than I anticipated and I was very happy with it... until my family of 4 went travelling to some high altitude destination.
    The lens + mount was 1.2 KG and it felt like a mini-fridge. I traded it in for the RF 24-105mm f4L for halving the weight (600g). I regret that purchase. The image is inferior, both the sharpness and, especially, the chromatic aberrations are very disappointing. It's good enough for travel, at least it is light, but it's inadequate for my studio fashion portfolio. I am thinking whether I should buy the old Sigma lens I previously own secondhand again, or wait for this lens to come out on the RF mount, since I heard Canon is finally allowing 3rd party manufacturers to make RF lenses. I still have my non-L RF prime lenses, so I am not in a hurry.
    You have helped every of my camera gear purchasing decision, and I have been very happy with all of them so far (it wasn't you in the 24-105mm f4 video). Please advice.
    PS. I wasn't unhappy with the purchase, just that I expected more of the new RF lens. I literally feel that the RF50mm f1.8 and RF85mm f2 both outperform the RF24-105 f4L at f4 and the zoom is set at the primes focal length. Of course, the zoom lens is way more diverse in focal lengths. You win some, you lose some.

    • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  6 месяцев назад +1

      Well I wouldn't hold your breath for full-frame Sigma lenses for Canon, that might take some time. It's only cropped APSC right now. So maybe consider using some RF primes until then?

    • @kenneth6102
      @kenneth6102 6 месяцев назад

      @@cameralabs True. I might actually buy another used Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG OS HSM Art for Canon EF mount the second time if changing lenses on set becomes too cumbersome. I made 200 quid after using it for 2 years, I simply cannot complain.

  •  6 месяцев назад +1

    The focus breathing there 17:03 is VERY strange, you can see it actually changes the spherical distortion quite remarkably, meaning that'll be difficult if not impossible to fix with normal tools (such as Resolve stabiliser). There must be something quite odd going on with the elements. It's less visible at 70mm, though it is there.

    • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  6 месяцев назад +1

      My test does show the full focusing range from nearest to furthest though which no-one is likely to do. I'd base an eval more on my shorter focus pull on the bottle or my piece to camera.

    •  6 месяцев назад

      @@cameralabs That's a fair point. Regardless, it's a very odd effect, especially at the wide end! To be honest I do often pull all the way from background to quite close for products and so on, but usually with a longer focal length. I don't think I've seen this kind of distortion variation before!

  • @funtaril
    @funtaril 6 месяцев назад +6

    I watched 5 reviews (Chris&Jordan, Christopher Frost, Gerald Undone, Arthur R and you), and everyone sees completely different results with all aspects of this lens, except maybe center sharpness and focusing speed.
    And it's not the case of "you should watch more reviews to get comprehensive opinion" - no, it's just like y'all got very different lenses. Just compare results in testing LOCA, focus breathing, distortion, onion ringing and even sun stars!
    I can't build ANY opinion this time

Not sure if it is worth it to sell the version one and get the version two. I shoot A1, A9III, A7RV, so maybe I will save up and get the Sony 24-70mm f2.8 GM II in the future just for the higher frame rates. • @maaaps
      @maaaps 5 месяцев назад

      @@kevinl8791 Ultimately only you can make that decision. Both options… every option really, will have upsides and downsides. A couple things I would point out; the 24-105 is a bit old. Wouldn’t surprise me if it gets a refresh before too long. I own the v1 of the sigma 24-70. Overall it’s fantastic. Biggest downsides for me are the weight; it works pretty well with the rs3 (I have the regular gimbal, not the mini) but any heavier I think would be too much. Don’t know how it would be on the mini. V2 of the sigma is a little lighter. Second and biggest problem for me is the fact that active stabilization is less effective on 3rd party lenses. That really hurts when I don’t want to drag the gimbal around. Does sometimes make me wish I had the native Sony 24-70 2.8 or supposedly upcoming 24-70 f2.

    • @maaaps
      @maaaps 5 месяцев назад

      @@kevinl8791 There's no perfect lens, it's all a series of tradeoffs. I use v1 of the Sigma 24-70 with the RS3 (not the mini) and it's pushing the weight limit. I think it's doable on the mini but barely. Don't know if there are any reports yet about the slightly lighter V2 on the mini. Thing I miss most with the Sigma is the enhanced active stabilization. For that reason (and it's probably the only reason) I do sometimes wish I had the native Sony version. The 24-105 is an older lens; it's probably going to get a refresh before too long. Sony 20-70 F4 and 24-50 2.8 should probably be on your list too. Personally, I don't like zooms that start at 28mm; losing 24mm is a deal breaker for me, but again, all down to preference.
