C'mon lad. Grow a pair and make some honest recommendations. Okay, since I'm not looking to get sponsored by anyone, here's me take on your video. The Sony v1 is outdated and too expensive for what you're getting. The Sigma, has the nice warm colors, but the corner optical performance is below some of the others, autofocus is slow, and it's minimum focus distance at 70mm is not very good. The Sony v.2 is significantly smaller, lighter, and has many controls to play with. However, though optically sharp in the center, it too has corner sharpness issues, though better than version one and the Sigma. Now for the Samyang...it's significantly heavier than the competition and it's as parfocal as I am beautiful. However, it is significantly cheaper than the competition, has just as good center optical performance and completely demolished the competition in optical corner performance. The autofocus is also very good, though not as good as the Sony's. The clear recommendation is the Samyang. Best bang for the buck and optically better than most. If money is no object, then the Sony v2. It's lighter, optically excellent, and is full of controls. You may wish to purchase this lens if silent shooting is a priority in your workflow or if you have enough money to burn and you're into matching logos for your camera/lenses.

Samyang, a small Korean company with a short history, surpasses Japanese giants Sony and Sigma in optical performance. If Samyang had sufficient funds, it would be excellent in design and marketing.

You can set up the custom switch (normally MF / Aperture) on the Samyang to act as an AF/MF switch... also you can have Linear / Non-Linear mode dedicated on that switch... Hence in a way it's better than an old fashioned AF/MF switch (that most of the time ppl don't use)

I hope they do a mk II Samyang and can get weight down to say 850g, add programmable buttons, AF-MF switch faster linera AF motors, and not compromise the excellent IQ. Even if it were another $200 dollars it would be a bargain compared to the Sony's. Sigma's AF is a bit slow for my liking and corners were pretty poor wide open. A shame you didn't also try the Tamron 28-75 G2 as that is probably the lens I would go for. Just waiting for the rumoured 17-28 G2 to drop or see how the Sigma 16-28 performs.

the Samyang was a really good lens for the short time that I had it- was a bit
heavy though- but I liked it a lot. image quality and lens performance
were excellent... however, there are two really huge problems with it:
first, is that the mounting plate is screwed into four small plastic
posts- this is all that is holding your lens onto your camera. so let's
say you trip and fall and you bang your lens on the ground (which I've
done with my sony 28-70mm kit lens- but it still works perfectly), or if
your tripod with your camera falls, as mine did, the plastic posts will
simply break on impact and your lens will just snap straight off your
camera. the second problem is trying to get that repaired. it will not
go well because repair shops cannot get any parts for your lens, and
Samyang has only one location in the US to fix the things covered by
their warranty... so ultimately you'll learn that you've bought a $1000
disposable lens... a real shame because I would have easily replaced it
with another. Instead, though I'm gonna miss the 4mm on the wide end, I
    got the Tamron.

    • @sandb1867
      @sandb1867 2 года назад +4

"...the plastic posts will simply break on impact and your lens will just snap straight off your camera." Speaking from experience (Olympus EM1ii & 12-100), that's what you want to happen. The alternative is your lens is built rock solid to the lens flange and it bends or rips the mount out of your a1/a9/A7r/A7. Olympus re-attached my lens flange for a few hundred dollars.

As much as I love the price & look of the Sigma, the reversed focus/zoom rings is a dealbreaker for me. I tried it once & it’s too frustrating to use. Kept using the zoom when I wanted to focus, & kept focusing when I wanted to zoom. Really messes up shots when you’re doing ENG or events/concerts when you only get 1 take at a shot.
