The David Lee Roth band, with Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan was off the charts awesome! .. the combo of Steve and Billy was phenomenal .. and with Dave singing? .. forget it .. was awesome!
How in the world do you NOT mention Greg Bissonette. He just got voted Best Overall Drummer by Modern Drummer Mag. As a drummer Greg is equal to both Bill and Steve
The skit at the beginning of the song is hilarious!!! It's what was fun of the 80s. No one took the stereotypes seriously, whether they were true or not. It was all in fun. Loved it!!!! 😂😂😂😂
This song is a tribute to the Statue of Liberty in New York. It was released around the time it was being renovated, so interest was high in the statue.
Yes, this is a tribute to America most people don't realize it. America, She's a vision from coast to coast, the words are there its just the visuals that confuse people.
Yankee rose was just simply an all American girl. This song was Diamond Dave’s coming out party after parting ways with Van Halen. The “ guess who’s back in circulation” was specifically aiming at just that.
80s was the age of MTV and they made special effort at music videos to entertain the teens of that era and 90% of the teens kept the tv on mtv 24/7. This was a great era for music
Lmao not gonna lie this was hilarious to watch 😂knowing the song n video and what was in store for you guys was funny lol.. Plus the honest reaction was good too 😂
Actually, Vai had already started his solo career before joining David Lee Roth. He was already working on many studio pieces and one of his solo albums.
I saw Diamond Dave in Copenhagen many years ago where Dave after a small break in the music suddenly came out standing on a surfboard carried by 6 big buff types was dancing on the board through the public.....doing his "Monkey hour" (as he likes to describe it when he´s going full in). He always give the audience what they wanted to see/hear...one of the best frontmen a band could have. Unfortunately for Van Halen both Dave and Eddie are big personalities...and it had to come to a crash at some point. Still they did truly great music.
Dave was a huge personality, I'm sure he could get tiresome at times due to to his constant desire to create a spectacle. But when he hit the stage, he really delivered the goods!
These 2 guys are part of Daves buddies. He to go to Papa New Guinea and hang with the native peoples when he wasn't touring. The headress was supposedly to celebrate their culture in his adventures. He was just having fun😂 I went to this concert my senior year and the next one Skyscraper a few years later. The entire concert was like this! His band was so perfect for his first 2 solo albums
Welcome to the late 80s, dramatic, crazy, amazing, entertaining, individual, fun loving. Not the cynicism of the internet era. Much prefer the 80s. Steve Vai was a legend. His ability to turn the guitar into a talking person (effectively) was great.
Hi guys! Love your reactions. I stumbled over your reactions to Sabaton. Songs like 40 to One and Uprising :-) You guys brought tears to my eyes! I have come to know some wonderful people from Poland over the years. Beautiful, hardworking, and warm people! Greetings from your Norwegian friend 🙂
I was 15 when this video aired. One o the few videos that defined the 80’s. Flashy , over the top and fun. As far as the skit goes, nobody cared. Back then we were able to separate reality from entertainment. We all knew it was silly and over exaggerated. It was David Lee Roth for gods sakes!
I was 17 when this came out.. That's how we dressed back in the day over here in America. I still have my neon spandex from back then. Doesn't fit very well tho..
I was in a band called Yankee Rose back in the day. We use to play different gigs all over with Van Halen. It's kinda crazy he named that song Yankee Rose?
That was the 80’s baby. GLAM ROCK!!! THE 80’s were the best - excess, greed, sex, drugs and rock and roll. I need a Delorean with a working Flux Capacitor
Some context. This was the 80's. DLR and VH had broken up and this was basically his "in your face" to VH. Yes, the crotch shots and all that are cringy, but were very normal DLR behavior at the time. Side note, but Steve Via (guitar) and Billy Sheehan (bass) were considered at that time 2 of the best at their respective instruments. Sort of a "super group" at the time. Check out some of Steve Vai's solo stuff or maybe his "Highly Strung" with Orianthi (fantastic female guitarist). Yes its silly, but take it for what it is. lol
Adding more to the DLR band and VH going back and forth, this song is from the album "Eat 'Em and Smile," to which Van Halen's next album was named OU812 (Oh, You Ate One Too?). A little bit of back and forth subtle shots. But as you said, Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan were (and still are) two of the best with their instrument. "Replacing" Eddie wasn't an easy task, but Vai was probably the best choice Dave could have made.
David lee Roth band Eat em and Smile 1986 Greg bisonette (drum) Billy Sheehan (bass virtuoso) and genius of guitar Steve Vai italian American, whit italian cityzenship. Frank Zappa is mentor Vai...
Want a real treat? .. Go watch Steve Vai - Teeth Of The Hydra (Official Music Video) .. Then go catch some of Steve Vai's other songs, like "For The Love Of God", "Whispering A Prayer", "Tender Surrender" .. etc. This will show you a little bit of the raw talent that Roth was able to attract into his band, one of the best guitarists and bassists (Billy Sheehan) in the world. Fantastic stuff! Also check out many of the other song that the David Lee Roth band produced, like "Just Like Paradise", "Ladies Night In Buffalo" and others.
Even for the 1980s this video was a bit over the top. One of my aunts called him a pervert when he was showing his butt cheeks in spandex pants. But that was Dave being Dave, the leader of the immoral majority, as he liked to describe himself. He's a lot older now but still in great shape from all the martial arts training he's done for several decades.
A large portion of Europeans view all U.S. citizens as "Yankees"....kind of like everyone from Mexico views everyone not from Mexico as "Gringos." While in the U.S., we (those of us in the south, for the most part) consider anyone born and raised in New England (Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island) as "Yankees."
Yankee Rose = Statue of Liberty which is our course kind of like the USAs "Freedom mascot" and the beginning is a representation of the "great American melting pot" of all the types people that come here from differnt places and cultures
Don't beat yourself up about thinking it was about New York. It's a song about the Statue Of Liberty, and she stands in...... New York! So you were right. One thing she said made me laugh. Van Halen, they politely asked him to leave.... Well, no. It was a fight that divided Rock and Roll fans to this day. People in the US will still fight over the Sammy vs Dave thing. At the time, I was team DLR. As it turns out, Sammy had the longer, more successful career, but I stand by the statement that, in his prime, there was no one cooler than David Lee Roth. When he was told that Sammy Hagar would be replacing him, he said, "Well, I hear Sam throws a Hell of a party, but I AM the party"!
Lol Dave was a great showman back in the day..... The video in the beginning was over the top and an exaggeration for comedic purposes. The over the top cringey butt and crotch shots was all Dave lol he had one of those personalities
The #1 and #2 most reviewed artists are Van Halen with Roth, and Roth solo, fact. Because they are interesting. On the flip side, you NEVER see Sammy Hagar being reviewed. Because he's boring and uninteresting.
I remember I hated this when it came out, it was so over the top, all the posing in music videos made me cringe at the time. i still cringe at the video, but I have nothing negative to say about the band or the song. Steve Vai, Billy Sheehan, only among the best ever on their instruments.

The band had some of the best musicians around!
Can't possibly beat Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan .. incredible talent and from time to time they have worked so well together for many years.
This song is a tribute to the Statue of Liberty in New York. It was released around the time it was being renovated, so interest was high in the statue.
Yes, this is a tribute to America most people don't realize it. America, She's a vision from coast to coast, the words are there its just the visuals that confuse people.
Fun, fun, fun 😊 the 80's we're all about having fun!
The Yankee Rose is the Statue of Liberty.
Yankee rose was just simply an all American girl. This song was Diamond Dave’s coming out party after parting ways with Van Halen. The “ guess who’s back in circulation” was specifically aiming at just that.
@@jameslawson2663 The Yankee Rose is the statue of Liberty.
Dave's solo stuff is great 👍 another funny video of his is "I'm Just A Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody"
6:49 🤣🤣🤣🤣"I'm trying to listen to the song but the butt cheeks are in my face" - That made me laugh.
This was wild in the 80s, but it’s David Lee Roth and you could always count on him to do something wild 😂😂
Diamond David Lee Roth is a showman of that there is no doubt.
80s was the age of MTV and they made special effort at music videos to entertain the teens of that era and 90% of the teens kept the tv on mtv 24/7. This was a great era for music
OMG! This is gonna be a shock!
Lmao not gonna lie this was hilarious to watch 😂knowing the song n video and what was in store for you guys was funny lol.. Plus the honest reaction was good too 😂
Yes the 80s were f'ing CRAZY. Trust me...
Sooo much fun to watch! Looks like a big party!
Steve Vai (the guitar player) started a great solo career later. Recommendable songs are "For the Love of God" or "Tender Surrender"
Steve Vai also did Highway to Hell with 2Cellos. That is an awesome version!

Actually, Vai had already started his solo career before joining David Lee Roth. He was already working on many studio pieces and one of his solo albums.
Yes, in the 80's this was crazy.
He is very much to be putting the rock and roll to us. 🙃

i saw it also
Dave was a huge personality, I'm sure he could get tiresome at times due to to his constant desire to create a spectacle. But when he hit the stage, he really delivered the goods!
David Lee Roth translates directly into all languages.
These 2 guys are part of Daves buddies. He to go to Papa New Guinea and hang with the native peoples when he wasn't touring. The headress was supposedly to celebrate their culture in his adventures. He was just having fun😂
I went to this concert my senior year and the next one Skyscraper a few years later. The entire concert was like this! His band was so perfect for his first 2 solo albums
Saw the concert. Don't remember much other than it was fun!

David Lee Roth? Hilarious. Steve Vai? Awesome.
Another David Lee Roth song is his cover of the Beach Boys, California Girls.

3:56 "Is that happening in American groceries?" Yeah, pretty much.
He's go a lot of spunk!
This brings me back. Thank you.
I put this under the category of fun and not to be taken too seriously.
Well said! Today anything on line is taken literally
I was 17 when this came out..
That's how we dressed back in the day over here in America. I still have my neon spandex from back then.
Doesn't fit very well tho..
The Yankee Rose Is The Statue Of Liberty.
Now I fully understand Steel Panther.😅
i think she will be TRAUMATIZE for life 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol 6:50 You understand why Van Halen said…. “next singer please…”
All the characters at the begging of these videos were from the movie Crazy From the Heat Dave was working on.
I was in a band called Yankee Rose back in the day. We use to play different gigs all over with Van Halen. It's kinda crazy he named that song Yankee Rose?
STAGE FULL OF ROOSTER 🐓S..ALWAYS DUG THIS JAM...they're performing for the statue of liberty..our beloved Yankee Rose!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
He’s talking about the Statue of Liberty lol
That was the 80’s baby. GLAM ROCK!!! THE 80’s were the best - excess, greed, sex, drugs and rock and roll. I need a Delorean with a working Flux Capacitor
This is a great collaboration between Artists.
Yankee Rose has nothing to do with the baseball team. Yankees are 'Northerners', like me in Ohio.

Nutn but fun
He is still crazy

I saw him get carried onto the stage and play an entire show from a chair because he was so drunk and he was incredible
You just made that up.
"butt cheeks." we all know what you mean. and Yes, DLR is having fun.
Want a real treat? .. Go watch Steve Vai - Teeth Of The Hydra (Official Music Video) ..

David practices Jeet Kune Do. I may have read he's even a black belt.

Yankee is a term the British used against the U.S. in the war of independence .
You look a bit perplexed… Ha! Try “Just Like Paradise” next!
🤣
In the immortal words of Rick James: “Cocaine is a helluva drug.”
Next Van Halen Panama.
They reacted to that one a couple of weeks ago.
man, could Eddie make his guitar talk...
🥱
Americans from south of the Mason Dickson Line call us from north of the border "Yankees"
He’s an entertainer and definitely not modest. I love DLR, but I think his antics overshadow his incredible voice at times.
Hello, plis review:
AFTER DARK- MR. KITTY.
I WAS NEVER THERE- THE WEEKND.
PLIS PLIS ❤
You don’t think thru rock and roll
Lol Dave was a great showman back in the day..... The video in the beginning was over the top and an exaggeration for comedic purposes. The over the top cringey butt and crotch shots was all Dave lol he had one of those personalities
Ya jus duit

americans are yankees. a yankee rose is an american woman. OR IT COULD BEE RON DESANTIS.

The "skit" before the song starts is a prime example of what David Lee Roth thinks is hilarious. It's not. It wasn't then, and it sure isn't funny today. But the song is amazing.
I disagree.
Double meaning like most of Dave's stuff
Your wife is a bit repressed.
