In 1986 I went to my first concert when I was 14 and it was David Lee Roth and Cinderella and it was awesome seeing Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan do their dueling solos was out of this world!
Eddie, Randy Rhoads and Steve Vai are my top 3 guitarists. Vai makes his guitar talk in the opening. It's 'David... why are we here... whoa... catcall whistle... laughing... wild.... wild... wild' (at least to me). Vai can do so many crazy things with his guitar. To me, this was more like the harder rocking pre-1984 VH than what VH was putting out.
I saw David Lee Roth in 1987 with Poison opening for him and it was one of the loudest concerts I’ve been to. Steve Vai on the guitar was incredible, he had to double neck guitar shaped like a heart, and David Lee Roth came to the stage Flying through the air on cables, landing in a boxing ring and then going onto the stage. I was 10th row center at the right front corner of the boxing ring. Incredible show.
Dave always had really fun videos. Many of the same characters appear in them. It makes a little more sense if you watch them in order of his initial solo releases….California Girls; Just a Gigolo/I ain’t got nobody; Yankee Rose; That’s Life

Sounds like a band, but he plays EVERYTHING on both albums. And there is not a bad song on either album! I recommend starting off with "Don't back down, Another Celebration at the end of the World, or Horribly Right.") In a great video and song that is NOT typical of his sound, he does a very touching tribute to his father called "Distance." You have to do the official video for that one. He mixes in home footage of him with his parents.

Best solo break away from an iconic historical band... This whole album kicks ass! Steve Vai, Gregg Bissonete, and Billy Sheehan. And now if you're ready DLR raps in the song "Big Trouble" 😊
I saw DLR on the Eat 'em and Smile tour! August 26, 1986 at the Mid South Colosseum in Memphis. He had a great band backing him. They put on a great show
The bass player you were in awe of listening to "Addicted to That Rush" by Mr Big a couple weeks ago?.......yeah, thats him here playing bass for DLR. The great Billy Sheehan. I got my tickets to see Mr Big's farewell tour coming up in February. ❤❤
Wow, haven't heard this one since the 80's, watching the video! The talking guitar is next level. Very cool, DLR never disappointed to bring the energy! Thanks for doing this one!
Got tickets to the concert. Paid an airbrush artist $25 to make a t-shirt from my design. The Statue of Liberty holding up a rose. The words Yankee Rose in red, white, and blue flag stars and stripes. My friend and I shoved our way to the front. 5 feet away staring straight up at DAVID LEE ROTH!!! Crushed into the rail by the crowd. A girl threw up on my new shoes. Sweated off my make-up, hairdo, and streaked the paint on my shirt. Best show ever!🎉❤❤❤
This song is about the Statue of Liberty. And how she is the symbol known round the world and what she stands for. Great tune. The guitar player is Steve Vai, and the bass player none other than the great Billy Sheehan.
The "Yankee Rose" is actually the Statue of Liberty. He said that at the time, the statue was being rebuilt, and everything in New York was named after it. Like, every diner would have a "Liberty Burger", etc. He said that they used to hang out on the sidewalk and whenever a hot girl would walk by, they'd be checking her out. So he got this idea to pretend that the Statue of Liberty was a hot girl walking by while they're hanging out on the sidewalk. Once you know this, you can listen to the words and it makes perfect sense. Steve Vai on guitar, by the way.
This song is forever ingrained in my mind or at least the hangover I had the next day after a night of debauchery where this song seemed to get a lot of play lol! I didn't think I'd live to see 1987😅. I love DLR cause the guy just puts it all out there take it or leave it and that makes for some freaking great entertainment and some great rock!

In a great video and song that is NOT typical of his sound, he does a very touching tribute to his father called "Distance." You have to do the official video for that one. He mixes in home footage of him with his parents.
Love your review, guys. It’s always a great way to start my day with one of your upbeat song feedback. Jordan looks chill and Amber looks really pretty . Looking forward to your next film review
Epic song. Epic album. Epic DLR line up.
The beginning of the official music video for Yankee Rose is hilarious!!! 😂😂😂 Gotta check it out on your own time.
If you know Steve Vai… one of the best guitarists in the whole wide world 🌎. ❤
I saw this tour on David's Birthday in East Rutherford NJ it was a great show.
Use the like button to re-do this reaction with the official video!
That was Steve Vai on Guitar, Billy Sheehan on Bass, and Matt Bissonette on drums, so he had a killer band behind him on this album.
You need to see the official video for this song. It better explains this song
Uh, the video doesn't do anything to explain the song. The song is about the Statue of Liberty.
This one's been coming up in my head as an Earworm a whole bunch recently!!
We need more Cinderella
"Just a Gigolo" is one of my favourite David Lee Roth songs.
Best solo break away from an iconic historical band... This whole album kicks ass! Steve Vai, Gregg Bissonete, and Billy Sheehan. And now if you're ready DLR raps in the song "Big Trouble" 😊
I would go with McCartney, Lennon, Paul Simon, Phil Collins and Sting before DLR.
@surlechapeau those bands broke up, DLR was basically kicked out of the biggest band of the day... and hit back with this album.Just sayin'
point taken. Genesis continued after Peter Gabriel left and The Supremes continued after Diana Ross left.@@TB6791
Oh wow. My friend and I were so in love with him. We loved this soooo much!
I saw DLR on the Eat 'em and Smile tour! August 26, 1986 at the Mid South Colosseum in Memphis. He had a great band backing him. They put on a great show
I'm so excited you reacted to this!!!! Eat em and Smile is an awesome album, one of my top 10 of all time.
I love seeing younger people(I'm 53) enjoying music that I enjoyed in my teens and is special to me.
The bass player you were in awe of listening to "Addicted to That Rush" by Mr Big a couple weeks ago?.......yeah, thats him here playing bass for DLR. The great Billy Sheehan. I got my tickets to see Mr Big's farewell tour coming up in February. ❤❤
Billy and Steve!! 😍🤩What could go wrong?? And hey, Greg as well!
Wow, haven't heard this one since the 80's, watching the video! The talking guitar is next level. Very cool, DLR never disappointed to bring the energy! Thanks for doing this one!
WoW! What a flashback man. Yeah, Steve Vai on guitar. I remember my uncle having that cassette tape when I was a lil boy. I dug it. GREEN DAY!
Saw the band on this tour. Poison was the opener. Jacksonville Municipal. Great show!
If you don't watch Dave's official videos then you are not getting the hole experience. Dave has a great sense of humor. 😂
My favorite from this album is Big Trouble but I’m weird! I was blessed to see this in Dallas. Great concert
He is singing about the Statue of Liberty. This was when she was being renovated.
Steve Vai guitar, Billy Sheehan bass, Greg Bisonette drums - a quite spectacular line up of musicians. saw then live on this tour in London Hammersmith Odeon (as it was then). Amazing gig
You definitely needed to do the video for this. David Lee Roth wearing stage costumes and moves only he could get away with!!
