The GTA 3 definitive edition version of Liberty City actually reminds me of GTA IV HD Liberty City, it’s odd looking at the older city with such an updated feel.

This is beautiful. It feels more like NYC just like how 4 does. The grainy realism is great. I'm a New Yorker and I approve
I would even go so far as to say the DeFinitive Edition of the Grand Theft Auto 3 version of Liberty City looks so much more realistic than the Grand Theft Auto 4 version of Liberty City!
Say what you want about bugs,glitches and cheesy character models but dude environment looks sick in these remasters.
Many parts of it look good. But there are still a ton of graphical issues they need to fix. For me, the most blatant one is the atrocious use of parallax textures. On paper, this would have looked incredible. In reality, Grove Street Games was too lazy to actually make unique parallax textures for each building they are used on. Whenever you look into a building, the interior is always a supermarket or a bedroom. The sign on the building could say radio store, but you look inside and it's a kids bedroom. What's worse, they didn't even align them correctly. So when you look inside some buildings, the entire room is actually underground, or the whole interior of the building is leaning on its side. It's gross and immersion breaking.
Plus, there are still a ton of locations where there are random bits of geometry just misaligned. There is a certain intersection under one of the bridges where cars and NPC's are driving through concrete, because the designers did not lower the geometry of the road to the actual ground.
I will defend the GTA 3 one.
Could be why they promoted that one the most also. It looks really damn good. Just look it at slay the orginal in every way possible.
The original plan was to only do the GTA 3 one, but after they noticed all the 3 games used the same engine and reused a lot of assets they tried to apply the same treatment to all of the 3 and everything went downhill since they didn’t consider how bigger the other 2 games were compared to 3
DE is definitely an improvement and it looks more modern, but I still prefer GTA 3 renderhook with reflections.
The thing that ruined the most in all 3 GTA games when it came to aesthetics in the definitive edition was the rain.

Ppl can talk trash abt the trilogy all they want, but we have to admit, it looks good. Especially GTA III, it got like the most improvements out of all the games

And the rain fits the tone. The city at night, really feels like a slimey/dark place. The headlights add a dramatic effect to the atmosphere.
I think people are being a bit too harsh on the GTA 3 remaster. And guess what! Its missing no songs!

i hope it kept the original gloomy atmosphere though -- thats the only thing keeping it from being great. maybe they'll add it in a patch, idk.

still a complete disappointment, it's better to play the og version with graphics mods, you can install tons of quality of life improvements among other things

There is something odd about the new version I do not like for some reason.
Look how distorted the horizontal neon lights look in the girls at 0:30. Using AI to upscale all textures is not something we should thank them. It's something worth of a refund.
