@@zaycarnage2780 Not really, the game came out right after 9/11. If anything substantial was changed, then the game would have come out much later. Only some textures and voice lines were cut. I get the feeling the Minigun weapon became the M-16 clone in the final game. Strangely they didn't alter the attributes of the weapon much so it has an ungodly rate of fire and pretty much anything that gets hit by it is dead or explodes in a second or two.

GTA3 is the greatest game of all time establishing mainstays for games to come for decades.

It's insane how much content was actually missing from the game because they weren't able to put it in there. This is such an in-depth video I watched the whole thing randomly when I woke up this morning! Like Vadim said, that would be really cool if they had a document book just like this for vice City and San Andreas. I think my favorite part about this video was the script and how much different it was compared to the original intro to the game
@@coolcat-nq4mj because it focuses on redeeming oneself after living a life full of mistakes, it focuses on the dilemma between staying loyal and doing the right thing. Moral conflicts are timeless, doesn't matter when it took place
Rockstar: "We never intended for Claude to ever speak in the game." Original script: "Are you sure about that?" Jokes aside, it would have been very interesting if Claude had not been mute in the game.
I didn't expect to see a video about GTA 3 today when the Trilogy Definitive Edition trailer was released. Also hearing Gary's voice after a long time makes me happy altogether.
this design document really shows why its important to just stop and brainstorm ideas with videogame development, as I doubt most people even do this anymore.
God this is well made, every aspect about it, the detail, the visuals, honestly everything. It deserves so much more views and I can’t wait to see these type of videos on the other titles. All your guy’s content is gold, keep it up🙏🏻
A lesson I've learnt here is always to think really BIG, if the outcome is only 40% of what you planned then you'll still have an awesome result. The Rockstar team here where definitely thinking really big and some of these original ideas are part of the GTA brand and feel till this day.
Goddamn, that intro script was kick ass. Nice reading, too. Added a lot to it. Rockstar clearly had a vision that was larger than life during that time.
Thank you for this especially diving deeper into Maria. I now feel for her. Especially in regards to how Salvatore was controlling her and denying her education
For a game from 20 years ago to have this much in development is crazy. The Masks Gang is definitely what caught my eye and I kinda wished they stayed in the game.
I just 100% completed GTA 3 almost twenty years later that I did the first time. Listening to this amazing video made me realize how much Rockstar was ahead and how visionary these guys are. What a great piece of content. Thanks for this incredible video and overall hard work you guys made it through all of these years. A huge thanks from Brazil!
Got mf damn, they used to have big dreams for GTA 3, I would've guessed it's either time constraints, too much work, or just flat out not being fun at all was the reasons for these things to be axed from the full game.
At 12:20 it mentions a Sean Penn esque lawyer. Sean Penn played a lawyer in Carlitos Way, the same character that Vice City took inspiration from for Tommy’s Lawyer. Just an interesting thing I thought I’d point out as they seemed to really want that dynamic with the lawyer and decided on it for the next game.
This was a fascinating insight into the development of this incredible game! Its amazing how they had all these ideas around this time for GTA 3 and were never able to implement them but then when 4 came around they could really go to town on making Liberty City how they wanted 8 years earlier! This confirms to me Vice City and San Andreas are merely expansions to GTA 3 as with all the crossover characters and shared universe and from GTA IV onwards is what they truly envisioned GTA to be all those years ago became reality due to better hardware.
I must say, as my favorite GTA, im very happy to see it being 20 years old and still getting attention. Thank you Rockstar/DMA for creating this, and thank you to all people who make videos and still care about GTA III ❤️
@ZuccTheAlien RDR2 was nice but not fun. The sandbox aspect is ruined by shitty "survival" mechanics and stupid wanted system. RDR1? Yeah that was actually fun to play and mess around in. Same with PS2 GTA.

Imagine they had just 20% of the budget they use today to make their games, it would of been even a crazier game !! 😎😎
Yeah the map would have benefitted from being bigger and whatnot with more areas to see. Like the so called suburbs don't really exist...just some mansion. We had enough factories on Portland.
GTA 3 was supposed to look exactly like New York City but has changed because of 9/11 tragedy
@@zaycarnage2780 Not really, the game came out right after 9/11. If anything substantial was changed, then the game would have come out much later. Only some textures and voice lines were cut. Minor stuff. A whole map change would have taken ages, and they would have had to retool the missions and pathfinding and spawns for it.

Hey! Those Kotaku leaks about the GTA 3, VC and SA remasters were not lying! Check out rockstar's channel
I get the feeling the Minigun weapon became the M-16 clone in the final game. Strangely they didn't alter the attributes of the weapon much so it has an ungodly rate of fire and pretty much anything that gets hit by it is dead or explodes in a second or two.
It could’ve been that city’s well known firearm invention. Where it’s disguise as an assault rifle but it’s fire rate is so rapid that it’s allow to be a special heavy weapon in spite of the category of firearm
m16 really has a high fire rate tho
@@majimadavis3602 not that fucking fast
@@majimadavis3602 the M16 shoots more like a minigun with that rate of fire. M16's don't fire that quickly.

As someone who played the two Stories games first in chronological order on PSP, I always have that “I did that” feeling every time I drive through Fort Staunton when I play GTA 3.
Great timing! Rockstar just announced the remasters.

Who's here after seeing the announcementfor GTA Trilogy - Definitive Edition?
Would definitely be cool to see a mod, or multiple mods, that feasibly bring a lot of these beta features to the OG GTA III
Gary 7MT literally has probably my favorite voice of all time. I want this guy to narrate my life.
Perfectly timing. In the same day rockstar released a teaser for the remaster of old gta trilogy. So glad that even after so many years these games still have so much attention
finally we can hear gary 7mt's voice again!
It's interesting to think that when they were working on GTA3 in 1999 and they knew the existence of PS2, everyone else was playing the latest PS1 games like FF8, Driver, MetalGear,
ROCKSTAR was already in the future
Damn, I wish Maria's backstory wasn't changed because that added way more depth to her than the gold digger route they went with in the final game. Also, her looks in that sketch look much more like her SA and LCS looks that lll or any other renditions.
You could not have timed this premier any better, lol. Great work, guys.
Please scan to PDF and share with the community for preservation’s sake
Up
Lol that’s a lot of work to have to do all the entire book, plus that would mess up the value of the book as well, it’s be a good thing for preservation sure, but you’re asking for all that work and effort and lost value, without even offering him any type of incentive.. quit being a cheapo and find a way to compensate the man with an offer or something. I’m guessing you’re a little young and don’t quite know how things work yet lol

A legendary game from a legendary company, thank you for planting the most beautiful memories of our childhood. This is a great achievement, and it is sad that the past is gone and will not return.💛
Simply the greatest game of all time. I'll never forget walking through Hastings and seeing it on the shelf, picking it up and silently exclaiming to myself "It's 3D now!?" Then taking it home and the first thing I did was beat an old woman with a baseball bat and take her money... my mind was blown and never had I experienced such a high. Despite Toshiro Kasen and her condo in a skyscrapper were scrapped for GTA 3 they ended appearing in Liberty City Stories

The design behind GTA III is the equivalent for "The design behind the future of Gaming"
Holy shit lmao, I literally live a walk away from their old original headquarters, that’s crazy to think about.

I wonder if the Twin Towers were originally going to be in this game
I loved playing GTA III. The graphics are so amazing and the whole story line is just like a movie scene. Took me ages to complete the missions.
A lesson I've learnt here is always to think really BIG, if the outcome is only 40% of what you planned then you'll still have an awesome result. The Rockstar team here where definitely thinking really big and some of these original ideas are part of the GTA brand and feel till this day.
Best 20th anniversary gift for this game. Awesome work, guys.

Great timing for a video like this! Just after the announcement of the trilogy!
GTA III location: exists
Rockstar: MINIGAMES!
Instead of just remastering the trilogy they should take the opportunity to add everything they couldn’t back then. It could really make it great.
Unfortunately, those people don't work at Rockstar anymore.
Leslie Benzies, the main producer of all the GTA games and the president, Dan Houser left the company, so future GTA projects won't be the same.
This video is so well produced and narrated, major kudos!
Yoooo they might be showing off that design document they got a hold of a year or two ago!
Thank you for this especially diving deeper into Maria. I now feel for her. Especially in regards to how Salvatore was controlling her and denying her education

@Mach-Infinite that too
The reason is consoles, game development to this day is always held back by their weak hardware.
@@toptierdiscordmod7806 yes, sadly
At 12:20 it mentions a Sean Penn esque lawyer. Sean Penn played a lawyer in Carlitos Way, the same character that Vice City took inspiration from for Tommy’s Lawyer. Just an interesting thing I thought I’d point out as they seemed to really want that dynamic with the lawyer and decided on it for the next game.
I just watched that movie, didnt even realised it was Sean Penn. I am shocked rn
My god how Rockstar has fallen. Not just from grace but from innovation and wanting to make fun games.
@ZuccTheAlien RDR2 was nice but not fun. The sandbox aspect is ruined by shitty "survival" mechanics and stupid wanted system. RDR1? Yeah that was actually fun to play and mess around in. Same with PS2 GTA.
