I have the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 limited. In love the car. I was trying to purchase a Tesla model Y or 3, but you would need to order on line. Both vehicles were not available and had to be put on the waiting list. Then I looked at the Hyundai Ioniq 5. I was able to get one within 45-60 days. I ended up with the ioniq 5 limited AWD. Range on Tesla was a little higher than the Ioniq 5, but the rapid dc charge blows Tesla away. Charging from 10-80% in less than 20 minutes on a 350 kw charger. I was able to find a 150 kw charger and it was only 5 minutes longer. For the money, the Ioniq 5 is the better buy!!!

I'd choose the Ioniq 5 in part because I actually like the way it looks a lot more. I've test driven them both and they both drive fine, with satisfying horsepower, but I want the bells and whistles that the Limited trim has. I can tolerate the looks of the Y and I think in a lot of ways it's the more practical choice because of the efficiency and the charging network. But I wouldn't be making a purely rational choice. The most rational choice would probably be to just save my money and keep driving the car I have. I'd like to be a little excited about my next car and I'd like it to do things my current car can't do.

All you have to do is sit inside both vehicles, which is exactly what we did this week. The tesla is absolutely bland, no accents, no ambient lighting. Whereas, Ionic 5 has so many awesome features which includes futuristic features and accents. We drove both, tesla was dry and bumpy with a lot of noise from the interior. Whereas, the Ionic did not have that problem. Smooth quiet and fun to drive. Ultimately, we ended up purchasing the ionic 5 as it offers significantly more than the tesla does in most aspects.

One thing I've noticed is that it's harder to hit the Tesla EPA because those numbers were determined using ideal driving conditions. The Ioniq 5's (and other EVs) EPA rating seems to be rates for average driving conditions, so it's far easier to get more than what's advertised. My max rating on eco mode when driving my Ioniq efficiently is about 337 miles

I was leaning firmly toward purchasing an Ioniq 5 and thrilled when our dealer got in a large # of them (we previously drove 3+ hours to test drive it in a neighboring state), but after I took a serious look at charging availability on X-country routes in the U.S., I've decided to re-test drive the Y this week. I test drove it in 2021 and found the ride harsh and my husband, a comp sci prof, disliked the single screen interface. After he rented a 3 in Europe, he has changed his tune, and I'm hoping improvements to the suspension make it a good choice for me now. I personally can't see purchasing a car that will seriously limit where I can drive on a trip; the upper MW is lacking in charging stations on several non-urban routes...

Well, it's highly subjective which is better. Really comes down to your preferences.
I chose the Ioniq 5 (over any T) because:
    - Hatchback
    - CarPlay (I'm an iOS developer-all my live revolve around my iPhone: contacts, calendar, maps etc is all wired through it so it's mighty convenient for the car instantly knowing where I'm going).
    - Driver Instrumentation
    - Unique on the road, still (not that many even here in Quebec, the second largest EV market in the Americas after California)
    - Doesn't look like a suppository
    - Available in black without the Felon tax of 2,500$
    - am not supporting a racist misogynist right-wing narcissist
I did upgrade my RWD/LR with the deep Asian/Euro 54L frunk. So a tad more convenient than the North American stock 26L frunk.

We were being pushed to lease rather than own the Ionic due to the technicalities on how to get the tax incentive (or Hyundai's discount equivalent). I have the ioniq5 for 15 months now. It still looks cool. I also have a model 3, and I think it's ugly-ish, and especially the Y. Tesla should really invest mode in the Design. Model S/X look much better.
I like to drive the tesla more, it's snappier, even though both are 4 wheel drive. Both cars have serious software issues that are not being addressed since launch. Like tesla's random window wipers and ioniq's almos non-functioning rear BOSE speakers. While tesla has many issues with it's infotainment and wipers, I'd say ioniq has more serious issues. Like, when battery is full or cold, when you release accelerator to brake in traffic, instead of braking it starts beeping and pops up messages on screen - not a perfect time to read them, as you are having a possible emergency due to car not behaving as expected. It should just apply mechanical brakes in those situations, but it does not, even though it has all latest updates.

    • @joan4422
      @joan4422 Год назад

Strictly responding to your first paragraph re. design: design is personal and subjective, but I did go to design school, so my opinion is colored by that. I strongly prefer the clean, minimal, and soft shaping of the Tesla Y over the Ionic 5, which is generally referenced as "retro". I think that the majority of the Tesla models are extremely successful in terms of their exterior design: forward-looking and lasting in their style. I think the Tesla Y will remain attractive longer because it is not "retro" in its styling, and thus prone to falling out of fashion.

    • @circuitdotlt

@@joan4422 while I agree that ioniq 5 may fall out of fashion quickly, I like the old model S way more than 3/Y.

    • @realshit9325
      @realshit9325 11 месяцев назад +2

@joan4422 I get what you're saying, and it's all about preference. But tesla literally started a trend of overtly rounded, wavy, "ev" looking car design. It's far "trendier" imo than sharper lines of cars that remind us of 80s and 70s. Ioniq does have a concepty look, but I suppose design is subjective. All the car designers have a design background, too, and that influences their choices regardless of whtlether it aligns to your preferences.

The 3.5 s performance if for Model Y Performance not for Long Range. Let's have an apples to apples comparison please. The bit about suspension is a straight up lie, you are stanning hard there. Nearly every person who has driven a Model Y will tell you how terrible its suspension is in terms of ride quality. You can dress it up as "sport" but what it really is, is bumpy.
Never mentions other features like ride quality, or charge speeds or the fact that its way more reliable than the Model Y. From a tech stand point too, Model Y literally has bad vision based parking assist, and no ultrasonic sensors.

I did a roadtest on both. The ioniq5 is definitely my favourite. The ride was more natural and smooth. Visibity was great on both.. But i felt that i was in a real suv in the ioniq5. I also like the interface on the ioniq5 more. The ioniq5 is also a better looking vehicle,, The model 3 is better looking than the model Y…. the Y looks like a model 3 stretched up which doesn't look that good. At the end, i bought the model 3 2023 rwd with lfp. The reason i went with the model 3 is first i am claustrophobic. The base ioniq5 has no moonroof nor sunroof. You have to get the Ultimate premium which is quite expensive.. The basic model 3 has a very large moonroof which is great for car camping. Also the model 3 rwd has almost no wait time.. you can order now and expect a delivery within a month or two.. and if you are lucky (i was) you can have it a week later after you place your order. In my area, the ioniq5 has a 4 years wait if you put a reservation on it. 2 years if people cancel. By the time you get your ioniq5, your trade in vehicle will lose its value way too much.. also if you need to change your vehicle now. You have to get something.. since you can not predict when your ioniq5 will arrive, you will run into issue on D day. If you have a lease, will they accept to take it back sooner because your ioniq5 arrived? If you buy a new car and your ioniq5 arrives two years later, how much will you lose?
Another major problem with the ioniq5 is in case you crash your new ioniq5. Your insurance will cover the replacement, but since it is a 4 years wait.. your insurance will just tell you to buy something else with the money.. because there is no way your insurance will be able to get you a new ioniq5.
Parts are also hard to find, for a small repair, expect to wait months, Tesla. Also has a long repair time. But atleast if you crash your tesla, it shouldn't take more than a year to get another tesla.
Lastly the charging network.. i believe Tesla have is winning this race too. AnwyAy, i really enjoy my model 3, it is the most expensive csr i ever owned. The jeep wrangler being the second most expensive.
Because my model 3 is an expensive car, i am very nervous when i take it. I drive slow, and im not old. There are so many idiots texting while driving, that i i have to carefully pick the right road. The down side of tesla is the depreciation. Their value drop so fast compared to the ioniq5.. because elon increasd the production and keeps lowering the price, all tesla depreciate faster than normal.

@@amintalayarabyasooaIt is true that Tesla has a higher share than Hyundai in US, but my choice is Ioniq 5.

Prefer Model Y any day. For me, tech and performance matters more than anything else where model Y is the winner. Also, looks wise, as it is subjective, I still prefer model Y over ioniq 5. I don’t understand the hype around ev6 and ioniq5 designs but to me they just look like a little bigger and regular hatchback.
    Go Tesla.

Teslas are so boring and cookie cutter. Offering much of the same for a much higher cost.
    Teslas are so old news.

The Ioniq 5 is cooler in the design. Besides, buying a Tesla and supporting all the craziness of Elon Musk is a big NO NO!

Lease a Hyundai, buy a Tesla.

Hyundai has stupid exterior to be honest, looks like a toy car, while tesla has more decent and professional.
hyundai has little more fancy interior with different cuts and stuff, but don't ignore tesla's wood interior with bigger ipad which controls the whole system and no buttons, plus a lot more features.
now talk about performance, ahhhh Hyundai con not beat tesla even in their dream, ik the software for hyundai how it get stuck, while tesla has more reliability.
So my choice is Tesla over the Hyundai.

Ioniq5 is all but not aerodynamic cv 0.28 Tesla model y cv 0.23
Hyundai is not a drivers car the soft suspension makes the car feel like a boot on the sea and it does not give me the confidence being in control. Ioniq5 already looks dated in the clatter cabin and the lack of power does not even come close to Tesla is the king 🤴

  • @MrZola1234

The Ioniq 5 is not aerodynamic, that’s why it’s efficiency is garbage. And, the Y is not even close to being a traditional SUV. It looks like a traditional sedan with a hatchback door so Tesla can pretend it’s an SUV.

the 7500 tax credit trump all lol but joking aside how's the Ioniq 5 build quality? I mean Tesla still have a very questionable build quality after all these years.

    • @FaizAly

The build quality is great! Much better than Tesla’s

I had a early model 3 and I changed so many things in that car to make it finally be great. I changed the backup camera system, front windshield, glass roof, rear speakers, B Pillars, and rear windshield. I haven't had to change one thing in the ioniq 5 yet but random weird warning lights go on once every month but then dissapears when you restart the car. Go figure. I got the 7500 tax credit for my Ioniq 5. I just bought (today) a 2023 Model 3. On the drive home, I already found that there is a warning light and the alignment is off as it veers left when steering wheel is straight. But the panels look better than my early model 3. So Tesla is improving but Hyundai's quality has been way better.
