    Yes! French Bulldogs are prone to disc disease. Stevie probably had a hemilaminectomy, which is the removal of matter in the spine that's compressing the spinal cord. ALL IN ALL...Don't get a frenchie unless you're rich OR educate yourself and take preventative measures. Great story and I'm glad you took him for surgery immediately!

    • @LawnOfCorn
      @LawnOfCorn Год назад

      Don’t get a french bulldog full stop. Unless it’s a rescue. They are so unhealthy and are prone to so many issues, people who breed them are cruel and by buying them you are supporting breeders who don’t give a shit about the dogs health.

      Dachshunds are also rather susceptible to spinal problems, and the risk of injury goes up if they attempt big jumps. So it’s a particularly good idea to condition them to using ramps or stairs in key locations. Barring that, or despite it, some of us accept a life of servitude dedicated to lifting them on and off anywhere they want to go all day (including so-called off-limits furniture ). It’s a very good workout if you have a “solidly built”Standard. 😅

      Thank you so much for your comments , it’s very informative and it will definitely help me to decide upon what breed of dog to get in the future. I’ve had mixed breeds and pugs, pugs were definitely more expensive when it came to vet bills…

    • @montanawhite5699
      @montanawhite5699 5 месяцев назад +10

      Pugs also have bad problems. Too much inbreeding for short face. If you aren’t rich I highly suggest getting a mutt. A mixed dog breed. All pure breed dogs have more problems. It’s a proven fact. Go to the pound and adopt a dog on death row. That’s what I did. My dog is now 11, and the only signs of aging he has is some grey hairs replacing his black and being more grumpy. Joints, eyes, health is all still great. Only vet visits since I got him was for a torn ear and general checkups.

    I grew up on a dairy in Alabama, USA. My daddy was a dairy farmer and my mom, my brother, and myself worked alongside him. I was in charge of checking all cows (Holsteins) udder, feet, heat… I was young (about 8) when I first started in the barn. Before that I only tended the calves and the heifers. I appreciate the videos and I trimmed a LOT of hooves growing up. I never ran across some of the things you do; however, I did find a fence staple in a cows hoof. Daddy didn’t blink. He handed me a pair of pliers and I pulled it out. She went into the shoot after milking and Daddy showed me how to help her heal. I really love the memories your vids bring back. April 26th will be six years without Daddy. Thanks for helping me relive memories of my precious daddy.

    Graeme, I'm so happy that in our own small way we were able to help Stevie as well as help your family if/when there are times of need. The product that you bring to RUclips is phenomenal. Yes, you make your living by trimming cows hooves, but the real product you bring to us is the wonderful films that show us the challenges that you face while trimming. The information about your family members allows us to pray for them (I pray for them), and basically you let us into your life. If you were suddenly taken off of RUclips - you decided that you're going to retire and you're just going to play with your kids, and play with your toys😊
    I don't think I would watch anything else on RUclips, you really are it. I'm so very thankful for the product that you put out for all of us to enjoy, and I hope that you do it for many many many many years to come and all of us can enjoy your superb filmography talents. We love you Graeme, we really do❤❤❤
    P.S. Please give Stevie-boy some extra love from all of your fans 😁

    Stories like Steve is exactly why I have my pupper insured. I know that with the amount medical costs these days, if anything happened to my sweetpea, I would go bankrupt trying to save her. Decided the day I got her to get her on good health insurance, and I use it to keep her in good health. Hoping it never comes to what poor Steve had to go through, but it's huge peace of mind knowing I can provide her the treatment she deserves

    I work in vet med in the states and often take for granted the amazing technology that the specialty hospital just up the road has available. They truly are able to work miracles and save lives. Thank you for actually caring enough to drive 3 hours and provide that emergency care to Stevie. Many, many people flat out refuse to do this for their pets, even when the prognosis is good. Hopefully, in a few months, he will be able to return to full activity.

    • @jeannetteashlin1725

      I don't think so much about people refusing to get care for their pet as it is they can't afford it. Small animal hospitals charge a lot just to be seen then things add up to where you're looking at a $400+ visit or procedure that needs to be done. It could be paying for vet stuff vs food on table vs rent/mortgage, etc.

      @user-ld2zc6qu8o I have had clients tell me their pet isn't worth simple issues. It's understandable when someone can't afford a 10k decompression surgery. The worst not being "worth it" was over $55/month heart medication. They insisted paid $300 to put her to sleep.

    Give Stevie hugs from all of us, delighted to know he is out of pain Thanks for this video, we don't necessarily need to see dreadful infections. We just want to see what you are doing and follow your adventures with those sweet bovines.

    I was telling my dad about your channel and Robert's channel, as we are Scots-Irish. When I mentioned you are located in SW Scotland, he informed me that many of our ancestors and living relatives, the McCrearys, hail from your neck of the woods! Small world!
    GO, STEVIE!!!!!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!!!

    Graeme, it’s wonderful to hear that Stevie Boy is recovering well! I have a dachshund, very long and very short, so unfortunately I’m familiar with the same issue Stevie had…. We’ve had two surgeries to correct the back issue, and both the vet teams we worked with were very kind and supportive. My best to Stevie Boy, I don’t doubt he’s under the best possible care.

    New subscriber. Since the boring hoof trims rarely make it into videos, may I ask a question? Roughly how many cows would you trim for every interesting-enough-for-a-video trim you do?
