    Good stuff Tad!
I love the title of that book, mirror sound. It really is the essence of self recording, it's like looking in a mirror to see how you really sound. That's one thing I tell my students when they ask me how to get better at singing. I tell them to record themselves on a phone and listen back, then you will really know how you sound.
I agree also with you that opening up to record other would take some of fun out of it for me too.

Well put, Tony. I think that the self-reflection of writing and recording is a pretty healthy thing to have in our lives. Cheers man, and here's to many more years of mirror sound!

I definitely feel you on the hobbyist vs professional vibe. I've thought about maybe making a run at opening my space up for potential clients, but I think that would take so much of the fun out of it for me. Nice to see others in operating comfortably in this space.

I think that's pretty close to why I never wanted to branch out and start having people come into my studio...it really does take a lot of the enjoyment out of it for me. I don't mind jamming with friends and coming up with silly ideas, but running a business isn't really something that I'm interested in. I just like playing and recording and obsessing over gear :D

I started as self recording home studio, then I ended up building my soundproof studio since my family could not stand me making noise. They said I sounded like skinning a cat! LOL. It's the sound I make when recording the music and mumble the song as I play, to keep in time. So now I can do it all night long :)

Ha, I know that feeling. I'm very self-conscious when I record, and I loved having a soundproof room! I spent more than one late night in that room making awful noise and nobody minded one bit. I miss it so much!
Cheers, I hope all is well with you! And I hope that the pandemic lightens up and allows clients to come back to the studio!

I started using all stock sounds and samples but as mics got cheaper the joy of setting up a mic and recording a shaker or a tambourine or even a triangle and using it in a song quickly took over. I'm now experimenting with recording IR's for reverbs and cabs (( reverbs are fun...pop a balloon in a big subway (even using a cheap mic) and the results are amazing)) thanks for taking the time to upload a new video, looking forward to the next one

That sounds like a lot of fun! I've thought about trying to make some impulse response files but I've never actually tried it. Do you use special mics or anything?

@@YHRS for capturing spaces for reverbs i use the Behringer ECM8000 Measurement Mic. For capturing cabs, speaker and mic combo's its anything that youve got but setting that up is a bit of a dark art, experimenting is the key, be prepared to loose a few days in youtube :)

@@deesoundrecordingstudio9739 The ECM8000 is the mic that I keep forgetting that I have. Since I got it as a measurement mic, I totally forget that I can use it for other things. Thanks for the info!
