The 1dx max iso is 3200-4000 max ! Iso 3200 is ideal max but hey I,shoot kickboxing in nyc with candle light above a nice ring or cage . I
1dxii maxes at iso 6400 Before it looks crappy and falls apart raw or,jpeg . Bit 1dx max if u have to imo is iso 10,000 , 12,800 is where is degrades bad aka some work maybe in post but with robs fast phat nimble nubs n what the hells wrong with his hide forehead . Rob doesn’t need ur utube money so stop . He’s well of,lets just put it like, that . End of story. Canon iso lacks, behind Nikon and Sony shines here . Ergonomics the canon always. Wins . But with 1d bodies the freaking 1dx wtf thx is discontinued and the wtf 1dxii is $500 I don’t have for what sounds like a useless perhaps, gadget . Oh Ron’s got Ethernet at games well we🥦don’t automatically get that acces. In nyc at msg fool . Now move the hell ALOMG AMD HAV A BLESSED DAY !

I shoot martial arts and agree that rings, cages or venues are always candle light. A 1dx goes to 10k with a f2.8 with good results. In comparison, a 7dii does okay-ish until 6.4k with the same aperture. The lower pixel density on a ff makes all the difference, including the R6. Obviously, sensor tech has improved masses also.

This is amazing stuff...Just really started seriously photographing my son’s ice hockey with my 70D. Prior to that I did mostly portrait and outdoor landscape stuff...and the last time I was really serious about photography was landscaping with my EOS 630...So, pushing ISO above 2000 still feels weird to me...Will use my newly arrived R6 with Canon’s RF 70-200mm lens this weekend for hockey and see about jacking up that ISO so I can get some really good stills with the puck frozen in the air (my son is a goalie)...thanks again!

I have been looking for this comparison. I'm a 1DX shooter also, bought the R6 couple of weeks ago. I have been on the field with with the R6 only once and I honestly felt that is was not as capable at high iso as my 1DX. I felt slightly more noise and loosing details in the shadow areas more than I am used to. I'm a wildlife photographer enthusiast, so reproducing the same scene to test both cameras is not an option, unfortunately. More real world testing will be done. Thanks for your coparison.

  • @nogerboher5266

The R6 had the overall image clarity, sharpness and colors well ahead of the images from the 1DX, however, from the point of 10,000 ISO (5:09) and up, the 1DX surprisingly kept the colors, most of the sharpness and image clarity within all the photos, while the photos from the R6 were getting paler and paler with worse and worse image clarity and sharpness. I'm really surprised to see that happen, because I was expecting the exact opposite to happen, I was expecting the good old 1DX to completely obliterate the image quality and colors in lower ISO's and then start falling behind later on - but the exact opposite happened! I still have and shoot with my 1DX from time to time, amazing camera still to this day, considering the biggest jump in technological advancements in the entire history of photography, that happened over the past 5 years... Especially nowadays, going against the fully digital ''mirrorless'' cameras and the newest tech...

Science. But look how good that camera from 2012 still holds up today! The RF is capable of fine output. So is the Nikon full frame Z series, or Sony a7 family. My top ship mirrorless is a Sony a7R ii, and my on the way 1DX complement the 1D mk4 I currently have. All takes EF Canon glass. I love the L lens 70-200mm IS lens the most. Even on my Sony a6400! Holy Cow that combo has the reach, and speed a bit smaller. But the 1DX whatever mark it is says the speed, durability, capability is here for the duration. It is the anti-marketing ship today. Not newest, not mirroless, no plastic, not light, not chique. It has a job to do, no matter where, what, how, when, what weather, the 1DX is there. The torrential rains in Thailand for instance the 1DX is still shooting where unless you have a weather sealed body like a 1D family, say a Nikon D body, and lens, it could get dicey. Robust. As John Wick once said." I need something robust." He would shoot a 1DX family Camera.

Anything past 2500, is "who-cares" land for me. People kill me by saying "oh this machine goes to 102,000 iso"... to that I say "and?" The most important range for me is below 1600, and at an event below 8000 iso. I guess concert goers would really need that or anyone that does things in ALOT of darkness. Either way, GREAT review! It might be the pixel density that plays a part in the R6 looking sharper in many of these shots, since we are looking at a 18mp vs 20mp comparison. The 1DX has a disadvantage in terms of resolution so will never look as detailed. Still crazy good for a 10 year old camera and proof that there is only so much you can do with sensor size, since the laws of physics dictate how many photons fall onto it.

I'm trying to understand what you mean by the R6 has the edge. On every one of the shots you showed the 1dx image was clearly sharper. check the white dots on the gray background. They give away the loss in details from the R6 immediately. The color on the R6 also seems bleached out when you compare the tabletops. Both cameras deliver an awesome ISO performance, but the 1DX clearly has the cleaner file.

    • @RobSambles

Thanks for the video! I would suggest comparing a bird photo, and cropping in just a little to emphasize the bird. The area of the background behind the bird is what people would really want to see in terms of difference. Well, bird photographers like myself. I had the 1dx, and I never shot over 1600 iso. Call it pure ignorance or just superstition, but I never liked to have to use denoise software after. I own the R6 now and shoot my 600mm II f4 lens. I still don’t go more than 2000 iso, but with the R6 it seems like I can. I’ll experiment a little with 6400 and see how it looks. Both great cameras though but once you go mirrorless and eye tracking it’s like going back to horse and buggy in my opinion. It’s almost like cheating where you don’t have to focus and recompose all the time. Thanks friend

Hi Rob! Thanks for the video! In your professional opinion, which one would you choose as your main camera: 1DX ii or the R6? It looks like the R6 has an advantage in max ISO, but overall what do you think? I shoot wildlife, landscape, portraits and fashion. I am in between those two cameras, trying to choose. I now specs are important, but I don’t mind not having IBIS, animal eye autofocus, etc. I think 1DX ii has very good autofocus as well and if you now your way around the camera, it should not matter much... Plus 1DX ii has great specs as well as a stills camera. What matters to me alongside with the specs - is reliability, that you can depend on. In this case, I think 1DX ii has no competition. Also durability, as I shoot in different weather conditions and climates (snow, polar vortex temperatures, deserts, heat, dust, rain, forests, open fields, etc.). Do you think the R6 can take over the 1DX ii as main camera all things considered (specs, reliability and durability)? I am a little puzzled which way to go and do not want to make the wrong move with my money. Thank you! Igor.

Thank you for your test, as I was wondering about the comparisons, though I have both the 1DX and 1DX2, I have held off on getting either the R5/6 models until more certain about the noise factor, though other focusing features and fps are very attractive. Because I shoot mostly sports, the voice recording features on the DX's are very important to me, thus I would lean on getting the Canon R5, which has that feature. Plus, the R5 having the 45 mp sensor is a great help when cropping in for better details, and there is that risque of slightly higher noise typical of the higher number of image sensor pixels. I have seen videos of the Canon R6 at +10000 ISO and noise levels are quite acceptable with better detail. So far, my move is toward the R5, though I foresee the DX durable "built to take it" to become a mirrorless version of the R-series and without the rolling electronic shutter, but will it be worth the wait?

The AF performance of Canon R5 onwards did it for me. My last pro body was 1D3. The R7 I now have makes even old glass like 400 F5.6 L perform better than they ever did with dslr - no microfocus adjustments needed, the IBIS does make a difference, the video capabilities. No, there is no comparison. D850 users will swear no Canon is useable for high iso. It’s all BS. My R7 has iso 10 000 shots of owls in the dark that I could process nicely. So sensors with larger photo sites will be even better. Im glad Canon went mirrorless properly and I am amazed at what they achieved in the AF department. And we get to still use that EF glass!

I own the 1D X and its biggest noise problem occurs when you use low ISO (even ISO 100) and then try to recover shadows. Modern cameras do that so much better. I used the image comparison tool from DPreview, downloaded the RAWs at ISO 100 and then blew up the exposure by five stops. Then I compared them at 100%, even if that seems unfair because of the different resolutions. I know that is quite extreme, but it is still shocking how bad the recovered shadows around the wine bottles look on an ISO 100 shot by the 1D X, as ISO 100 plus five stops basicially should have ISO 3200 noise. Even the 1DX II does that MUCH better although it has a slightly bigger sensor. I often do night shots where I want to recover a few stops of shadows and might even add some clarity. That pretty much destroys the photo, if you used a 1D X.
In that comparison the 1D X III even looks better than the R6, although I thought they have the same sensor.
By the way, my 1D X seems to be dead. I thought it was the battery, so I bought a new one, but it still does not work. So it might be the main board. That is why I might be forced to buy a new camera, although it only is a hobby for me. That is quite a shock, because I do not have thousands of Euros lying around.

WhydoIneedashitgoogleplusquestionmarkforRUclipscomments: So your 1dx Mark II has a "fuller" frame 36 x 24mm sensor compared to the full-frame 36 x 24mm sensor in the 1dx? I guess that resides somewhere between full-frame and medium format...hahaha!

The R6 has the same sensor and processor as the 1Dx mkIII according to Canon’s web site. The main difference is the AA filters. The R6 doesn’t have an optical filter. It uses a filter built in the sensor. When you compare the two they should be very similar.

    • @AdamBotond
      @AdamBotond 3 года назад

It certainly has something to do with the AA filters. However, considering that both 1DX (og) and R6 have a conventional type of AA filter, it is somewhat surprising how the R6 renders noise and smears details in the shadows. Some reviewers hinted that R6 may apply some noise reduction in raw files and that's what it looks like to me too. Also, I have noticed some more color noise, as well.

I have all these cams plus 1dx I23 r6 all 4 and Rob is simply not showing real, world cases of sports 1dx maxed out at 4000 iso for decent use for pro sports pub in the USA. I say iso 3200 is tops for,the 1dx the 1dxii max is 6400 as it was a stop better that’s all and the r6 has the best high iso as the 1dxiii has . Rob should be comparing 1dxiii vs canon r6 we all know they share the same if not 98% the same just the r6 is newer than the 1dxiii as well and cheaper
