I purchased this camera 2nd hand from a friend in 2015. A heavy best it is, but also virtually indestructible. My shutter count has climbed to a million and the camera still works as if it were new.

I have the R5 but I miss my 1DX 1 because it’s low light performance I still can’t find in newer cameras, I think it was the larger mega pixels were larger and were less light sensitive, took some fantastic night shots with the 1DX

After much study I bought this camera. An interesting thing happens with cameras: you can track a model price, scarcity, condition over time and decide when to buy a camera. 1DX with low shutter count and in excellent condition is in it’s sweet spot but as we get closer to R1 release this camera will further come down in price and as a consequence become harder to find - so get a good one today or wait and pick thru what’s available. What you can get for $800-1000 will become slimmer pickings until nice ones gone then hard price drop on the ugly then nice ones will become rare and occasional and cheap. (All theory in order to feel better about a purchase) I can say this now that I have mine!

Even I moved to a R6II and R7, I kept my 1DX. First you don‘t get a lot of money for selling them (and for me they are more worth), secondly they are still used for example as a goal cam and thirdly I still use them in really harsh environment. Like tomorrow when shooting football in the pouring rain. The 1DX can handle a lot of water and an occasional beating without any issue.

5 good tips Rob. A couple more I use: Auto Rotate set to On PC only, so I get the full image size on playback on the camera, but it rotates on my PC, and Default Erase option set to Erase, makes it quicker to cull multiple images.

It’s crazy how the 1DX can still be a go to camera for many, even pros. Canon did well. The mkii improved on it nicely, but there probably isn’t scenario where you couldn’t get a shot with the original, that you’d get from mkii. I do prefer my mkii over the original though. I’ve only used my R6 ii for one sports job and I don’t think I got that many more keepers than I’d have got with the other two bodies.

Planning on replacing my Nikon D7200 with a 1dx mark ii this year. Mainly shooting rally for fun in wildly varying weather.

Good advice. I just picked up a Mkii to use with my older long Sigma glass. As nice as the R series cameras are, the new AF systems just don't work well with them.

For auto ISO setting should metering be set to evaluative?

Any one shoot remote? If so, what wireless trigger do you use. For my 5d MK iv I use the Yongnuo RF 603c. I plan on using a Canon 6d MK II during an upcoming theatre performance. BTW, just purchased a 1Dx for under 700 usd. Looking forward to shooting fast moving dance with it. I'll also be watching all of the tutorials on this channel.

What is a good replacement for 1DX from another brand or even from Canon rather than 1DX2 or 1DX3? I want to get a replacement for my Canon 1D3 first, then later i can think about a replacement for 1DX if necessary, but i feel like i will hold longer on my 1DX until i see that mirrorless camera affordable enough to outperform DSLR mainly 1DX line for sports/actions still burst, i am not a videographer.

any idea if all the info settings could be set to "OFF" so one can see only the image and BLACK all around the image ???

If I understand your question correctly you want to see just an image without info? Press the info button a few times and all info will disappear. You will see just the image itself.

Thank you! I am looking to get the 1DX ii and I'm sure that these tips will help with that as well. Many of these apply to my 7D ii as well. Have a great day, Rob!

Thanks Rob. I’m holding on to my two 1DX bodies with a lifeline as I don’t want to break the bank for new equipment. Like you mentioned I would encourage new shooters to look at the 1DX. Very capable as you noted. I also own two 1D2N bodies which are great bodies to learn on in the right lighting. Here is my only complaint about the 1D line. They are heavy and bulky. Not the best travel companions. I will be traveling from Canada to Asia in October. The trip is for leisure but I will be shooting some football. With new airline restrictions regarding weight the IDX could present a problem. I may leave my 1DX bodies at home and I’m looking to replace my 70D with a full frame - 6D or 5D2 or 3. Suggestions are welcome. Thx
