18MMer Thats great mate. Good work.
fake it till you make it.
Hey guys, I'm not a painter but wanted to help our kids pedal prix team and paint their trike.
I use a hvlp gun, wide open fluid, about the hand span fan and around 28 psi at the reg on my gun ( cheaper one) with a1.4 mm tip.
I e bed up with some good shots, but some orange peel aswell.
What settings for a Colourthane 2pack whine using a hvlp gun please.
awesome, finally a video that's helped me setup my gun properly.
I have watched several videos on how to set up your gun. This one is by far the best. I especially liked how you CLEARLY showed how to set the pressure at the gun.
V&G auto free lesson is great. Mario really explains what needs to be done from start to finish. With just one of this lesson i managed to paint my car bumper saving me about $350.00. I even got paint made by V&G Auto in a spray can. The result was great. Thanks Rakesh.
I used my paint gun for the first time today and all I could hear was Mario saying "hand span fan" from when I watched this months ago. Genuinely made the painting successful.
Today i bought my first spraygun. I have dreaming so many years to teach myself to paint with spraygun. I have watched many of your videos and i have learnt so much. So i have to say THANK YOU. Can´t wait that day when i will test my spray gun. :)
Your videos are useful for people like me So keep it going!
A haaand spaaand baaand!!.... lol top tips and great vid. cheers form Pom land.
Haa its ok, we always tease Mario about his OK's he loves any attention. Cheers.
the correct method is to keep the spray gun straight toward the panel, this is so the metallics and pearls go down even. It also ensures you get even coverage over the whole panel. flicking your wrist is ok if the gun is off the panel your painting.
Excellent tutorial on basic set-up, surprising how difficult it is just to find basic info on setting up the guns. Most appreciated and great work guys.
Ive watched this video a few times over the years, now currently doing test samples to paint a friends car and im back for a refresher. this has to be one of the best videos out there. Its good to hear someone who isnt just rabbiting on about turning the fluid and the air all the way out
Okay, okay, okay....love the 'Okay' melody; interspersed with the occasional 'Correct!', correct!. Great job guys. Thank you!
Herbrata Moeljo Mario normally recommends 2.5 turns of the fluid dial. Other painters say turn it all the way out. It is personal preference and is suited to your spray technique. All paints should have a recommended spraying viscosity if you can get a viscosity cup (a measured cup with a calibrated hole that is used to time in seconds how long it takes for the mixed and thinned paint to empty) and have the correct mixture then it helps with the fluid levels. Hope this helps.
OH YEAH DOCS WWOOOO
+Patrick Salmon OhKay? He'd be a little easier, ohkay, to understand if he'd just slow down a bit. Ohkay?
Hadn't used my gun for over then years and this really helped. many thanks!
I'm painting cabinet doors with an HVLP gun, but this video helped out quite abit for gun adjustment tips, thanks.
thanks, this really helps me! I am using artist primer to prime artist panels - will try thinning it with water 50/50.. hope it works! I wasn't sure what all the knobs were for but so glad you explained it in detail
cheers!
Thank you guys soooo Much! Im 17 years old and Im repainting my 2004 mustang my self.

Yes 1.8 or 2mm for all 1k acrylics colour and clear and 2K primer. 1.5mm and below for 2K basecoats and clears.
You need your own show on Ch 9 or 7. Great videos. Im almost ready to paint my 180sx thanks to you.
Thanks so much for this...ive got a job interview tomorrow to become a sprayer in the auto industry......
big up Mario
Unreal just bought a new gun this tutorial is spot on cheers fellas
Great video, any recommendations for inexpensive conventional sprayers to use? I learned more in 10 minutes from you than I learned in a lot of other DIY guidance! Cheers!
HAND SPAN FAN!!!
Buying my first gravity gun today. Thanks for the tutorial.
Great tips , many thanks , Like the HAND SPAN touch and distance . Getting good results
Barry
Hello, yes you can paint wood with acrylic. For a full gloss it will need to be sanded and buffed. Thanks
Gotta get this guy back in your videos Dave!
hand span fan, thanks dudes
good job making the video mate, note when you screw the adjuster in don't go too tight, just make contact or the needle will get damaged, to check for damage look for a ridge on the needle where it meeys the seat.
Very good video. The best I have seen on youtube. Mario's explanation and demo are honest and clear to the point. Thx.
Hey, you can paint straight over the black panels after sanding with 800g wet but they really should be primed for the best result. Use a primer suitable for your topcoat. Bare plastic parts should always be primed with plastic primer. If they are already primed then your good to go.
Best set up vid on YT. Many thanks guys for taking the time to make and post this up. Cheers
Yes 50/ 50 is fine. depending on weather will depend if you thin it more or less. Use an Acrylic thinner or multi thinner.
Beautiful! This video was great and very educational! Keep teaching me!
Thank you gus. It was very helpful. Especially the fact about the HVLP setup and info about it. Thank again.
Just what I was looking for thanks guys !! My gun is LVLP A.N.I gun which I'm new to so helped out heaps
These guys are really nice guys.Very helpful. Thanks guys for all the advice over the years.
HANDSPANFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNN!!!!
Great info....
Adjusting a spray gun depends on the gun type. HVLP guns use much less air pressure. My gun is a Jaguar, I back the fluid out 1 [and a little more] turns, and use about 8-10 psi. You get a lot less over spray every where, and use [waste] way less paint. I did an experiment once and the conventional [non HVLP] used almost twice the paint as the HVLP. It mostly into the air, rather on the part I was painting.
Why didn't I youtube first??? My paint job came out horrible because 1.) My spread was way too narrow, 2.) not enough paint was flowing out, 3.) I set the air pressure without pulling the trigger on the paint gun, and 4.) I didn't know which size nozzle to use. Thanks for posting this video this really helped me out!!!
Thanks for the video. Very helpful, and informative. Much appreciated.
I liked it when the guy kept yelling after the compressor shut off.
Awesome video!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!
Typical Maltese haha thanks for the vid mario. I got my first spray gun and I'm 14 learning to use one. I am painting a slasher but eventually want to spray my nunno old international tractor
Great video guys love the hand span reference for a novice sprayer it's very easy to remember.Appreciate the great advice.
Thanks for all your advices and for sharing your knowledge. Greetings from Venezuela

Good JOB, best explenation I ever see.... THANKS!
thank u men for the information.. u are helping me.. larry in indianapolis..
mario is passionate, i like that
Hand Span Fan...Thanks for making this simple!!!!!..I want to live in Australia.
Excellent video - precise and directly to the point.
Dont pay attention to the negative comment people, they have no life, they sit behind a computer scared to do anything real with their life.
Thx for the tips there was a few in there i like. Im looking at using acrylic paint soon instead of 2k its more suitable for what i do. Good begginers tutorial !
I'm so confused. I keep reading online that you use 25-30 psi but they are using 35-40 psi in this video!
Clear concise..excellent demo.
Good video, 1 hand span band. Got it!
A beauty. I've been looking everywhere for just this. Thanks.
OK...! your a great instructor, thank you, for your complements.
you should put Mario in your intro. what a legend!
To achieve the air pressure correctly, we can adjust the air pressure control gauge and reading the number on it.
To achieve the width spread correctly, we can adjust the spreader adjustment valve and measure how width it is (by inch or cm).
To achieve the correct distance between gun and the surfave, we can measure it (by inch or cm).
But how to achieve the correct fluid debit or velocity?
What is the best indication / direction in adjusting the fluid control and how to know if the volume of the fluid's spray is right and properly? (whether is too much or too little?)
This is a really good tutorial.
Mario is the most Australian person i ever seen =D
Love it
very good thank you ,, from australia...... love use blokes that help us
Very helpful and plz make another vid about the compressor set-up for an hvlp gun
Great thanks guys! Once again, very helpfull tutorial. I am getting closer and closer to achieving my goals and this tutorial is helping in it aswell. Thanks!
thank you...your knowledge was great and got me started!!!
Excellent video!. Love you Aussies!
Quick and clear! nice video
God sent Video here. Sure wish you guys would do a good vid on like Limco 8:1:4 Urithan in small amounts in a Grav fed gun. Thanks loads.
Thanks guys great vid and Mario's a champ and a great teacher!
Yeah great job. I share my electronics experience with others. You should have a video on how a noobie would go to the store and how to buy a system that will work for spraying a car and a fence.
hi guys! you done goooood job! Superb dynamic way!
Thanks very much for sharing of your precious knowledge with us!!!
Go ahead!!!
Very helpful videos, cheers. I reckon old mate might have sucked in a few paint droplets over the years though, he doesn't seems to wear a mask a lot in your vids. And the awky seeya mate at the end lol Classic stuff :'D
Really handy video. Could you do one on how to blend the paint in when spraying?
just like pizza/french fries... if you don't handspanband, you're gonna have a bad time! (ps, good video! lol)
so you can add a little reducer to the clear coat, in addition to the hardener? 4:1 , so how much reducer?
Thanks for a great and informative video!!
Great videos, ive learned alot from em : ) basically everything i was still in fog about
for a 10 min video, a lot of info!!!
gracias por este video me ayudo con la configuracion de la palma de la pistola ... gracias
Awesome video, Mario's a badass
Brilliant video!!
thank you both of the demonstration!
but if you want a really top job and a 3 dimensional look to your paint you mix the clear in with the paint it not only gives you a 3 dimensional look it shines better and you don't have clear fade or your clear coat falling off in the sun.
Do you need to run an oil and water separator?
Awesome tutoria. Congrats to you both & thx.
@kent9286 your welcome mate.
Good vídeo
Awesome post, keep up the great work!
EXCELLENT VIDEO VERY DETAILED THANK YOU
