    The spider power meter is actually more accurate than the spindle power meter (±1.5% vs ±3%), and it measures full 360° power. The spindle power meters only measure power from your left leg and doubles it to get full power.

    I have the GX, and I must say the coating on the cassette and chain of the X0, XX models is a noticeable improvement in smoothness and noise. The GX works the same and is maybe more durable, but the shifts are loud and don’t have the immensely smooth gear meshing the other models have.

    I have XT and it's been a little finicky the past couple rides... I know it's good but it needed a tune-up and I was bugged that it had been noisy, skipping gears etc. Then I see today the launch of the new SRAM GX transmission and am half-considering upgrading. But then I also spent an hour cleaning and tuning the derailer and it's running 100% again with shifts smoother ever, so you could say I'm happy with XT haha
    I think this is sweet, but wouldn't buy for $1k to replace something already working fine. If I was building up a new bike, that's a whole other story -- I'll probably will get transmission for the next bike

    • @FanatikBikeCo
      @FanatikBikeCo  Год назад +1

      Hahaha, in my opinion, yes. You definitely don't have to think as much about what's happening down there. With the electric stuff (AXS as well) there's no sensory feedback from the cable through the shifter about what is happening at the cassette, so it is harder to get good shifts. Transmission kind of solves that problem, but with AXS it always felt pretty pronounced to me. Lot's of clanging around down there.

    This only makes sense on a complete IMHO too expensive. The only benefit is shifting under load which no one cares about except XC racers. The climbs here are so steep i dont shift a lot from lowest to hardest and the other way around at the top and bottom of the trail. The only thing i care about is the chain staying on. I break the stuff regularly and a full gx derailleur is cheaper than any replacement part on the transmission so it absolutely makes no sense for Enduro riding IMHO. The old mechanical and axs stuff is good enough. I love that they bring this new stuff out because it makes the old XO1 stuff so cheap. Now i can get a XO1 derailleur for 159 EUR and a gx for 88 EUR and a XO1 cassette for 248 because. My only fear is that they discontinue the GX mechanical.

    Have to disagree re mech impacts... Ime it is mainly the cage taking riding impacts and either clipping that on rocks or hidden stumps etc or sticks getting stuck in cage & wheel. Laying the bike drive side down isn't the concern for potential consumers!
    And basically saying you didn't test real world impacts for 'video entertainment' doesn't really cut it for a review & test video!
    I guess it's good you admitted (after the fact) the impact testing was purely for entertainment (and obviously garnering sales!) & not a serious review video. Missed opportunity to really test this system v traditional.

      @@FanatikBikeCo I mean, yea it’s equally useless as saying it could withstand the momentum of a cruise ship traveling at something like 0.00001 m/s. The impact strength of a part is not at all represented by the change in momentum it can withstand. The issue is due to force being equivalent to the time rate of change of momentum. In the case of hitting it with a hypersonic baseball, the impact duration is so extremely fast that the force is enormous. In the laughable counter example, the impact with a barely moving cruise ship would take an eternity allowing for a low impact force across a long duration.

These "coatings" like hard anodize, anodize, TiN, electrolitic, electroless, DLC, Kashima coat... whatever.... there should be nearly 0 price difference between any of the coatings. One might be $100, and one might be $200 (as an extreme example) but companies that do surface treatments charge for BATCHES of... 100... 1000 or more? whatever. So $200/100 parts = $2 dollars they paid for that "coating" per part. If their batch was 1000 parts (which is a tiny batch, they paid 20cents!) Just because its desirable and people pay extra for SHINY is all it is.
