  • A few months ago SRAM released the latest version of their top-of-the-range Eagle AXS wireless transmission, a new generation of wireless electronic gear shifting for performance-oriented riders who want to be able to shift under load. However, with high-performance components comes a premium price tag... Until now, the all-new SRAM GX.

    I recently pulled the trigger and bought the Axs XX T Tyoe. Fitted it to my trail bike and it’s flipping awesome. Doddle to fit and under load gear changes are a game changer. This GX version is the same thing just a fair bit cheaper. Prefer the battery placement too, something them didn’t do on the top tier versions. Awesome kit, SRAM are knocking it our the park at the mo. Paired it up with the new Ultimate stealth brakes also. Tidies up the cockpit and cables hardly noticeable now. Such a clean look with the AxS dropper. 👌👍

      I have exactly the same feeling as you. I use a mechanical 1x12 sram GX and I do not really see the point of the electronic gears. I have ridden bikes with electronic gears and I do not notice the shifting difference, a few milliseconds do not really matter if only a computer can notice them, I could not really see the benefit of it in racing or hobby riding. A well installed and maintained gear cable and mec shifts perceptively just as good and within similar precision. I really wish that Sram and Shimano will not fade out developing new mechanical group sets. Not saying that I am opposing the technology but I wish they still made both mechanical and wireless so they can please both parties.
      I have a feeling that soon this kind of debate will transform into one of those rim brake vs disk brake topics.

      With release of the Transmission line up it was obvious, that the "old" eagle line up will be substituted with that. As always it startet from the top end, with the lower price points released later. The Problem is, although named gx, so like the mid range predecessor, the new gx is priced way above that.
      The people who bought XTR now can buy gx
      The people who want more can buy the new expensive stuff. But what is with the people who bought gx and nx?

Great for the people who want everything. But what about the people who once bought the Budget? There is nothing left for them in the 2022 Series.
      Lets see how its gonna be with the Transmission line. In the eagle line the high end Stuff costed 1.5 grand, the best bang for buck was 500-600 (gx). That was the "group of the people" and the budget one was around 300-400

      It was a weak clutch for sure, but the main problem was the whole DR slopping around as there is no cable housing to keep it tensioned. I really wish that Sram and Shimano will not fade out developing new mechanical group sets (for now I am not sure what they plans are). Not saying that I am opposing the technology but I wish they still made both mechanical and wireless so they can please both parties.
    I have a feeling that soon this kind of debate will transform into one of those rim brake vs disk brake topics.

    I like the setup a lot, except the price.
    Last month I wrecked my first (M8100) rear mech, a branch popped up into it and ripped it apart. (Cage broke, and the aluminium paralellogram also broke)
    I replaced it with a M7100 mech, which I guess is somewhat comparable with normal GX?
    It cost me €85 . What would replacing the cage and skid plates on this GX AXS cost? I can imagine it would cost me more.

    • @rustler08
      @rustler08 Год назад +1

      No, the GX is more equivalent to the M8100 and the XX1 is equivalent to the M9100. X01 is in weird position where it doesn't really exist in Shimano land.
      A cage with pulleys is like $30 for GX

I am thinking of buying the Spectral 125 CF8 and read a lot of comments online mentioning that the factory chainstay protector is kinda short. In old X-sync there also was labels everythere "only x-sync, only sram" - i managed to race XC races for two years with cheap AliExpress front chainrings with my Sram Eagle GX AXS, ~3000km.
