Aw, you missed my favorite part! When Duke says to Eddie: "...and bacon, like in a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich." And Eddie Murphy looks directly at the camera! That one look MADE Eddie Murphy a star in the 1980s!

Pawn shop guy is Bo Diddly, world famous blues guitarist. He and John Belushi, starting with the movie, blues brothers, always put blues musicians in their movies!
It should be noted that Don Ameche hated swearing and wasn't at all keen on using the 'n' word. He apologised to those on set during the appropriate scenes and even turned up early to be able to do so. He had very good morals.
He also didn't want to when the scripted had him shouting “F**k him!” at the end of the climax. but John Landis and Eddie Murphy convinced him that it was just one take and that’s it. And for one take, that was a pretty convincing one, that feels in line with his character, not caring about his brother.
It's the same story that the musical "My Fair Lady" is based off of, which is "Pygmalion" by George Bernard Shaw. Granted they used different characters but the story is essentially the same. Next to Oscar Wilde, Shaw was one of the greatest English playwrights of the Victorian era.
5:51 Gus from Breaking Bad on the left. 11:03 Voice of Miss Piggy/Fozzie Bear/Yoda and film director Frank Oz 26:40 Future Senator Al Franken in the middle. 27:34 John Belushi's brother Jim in the monkey suit.
Frank Oz also played the property guard (similar role) when Jake (John Belushi) was getting out of Joliet Prison in the Ackroyd/Belushi movie The Blues Brothers "one soiled". The 2 duke brothers (Don Ameche and Frank Bellamy) were also in Eddie's "Coming To America" movie as 2 bums that Eddie gives a stack of money to "Randolph, We're BACK!!". The character crossovers in THIS movie plus the Blues Brothers, and Coming to America make them even MORE funny!!
"When we wanted a jacuzzi we had to fart in the tub!" 😂😂😂 There are so many great, classic moments in this movie. Trading Places is a comedy masterpiece. Its full of meaning and laughs.
The little guy who takes Winthorpe's coat, whom he addresses as Folsey, was George Folsey, Jr., who only acted 4 times but had a long career in film behind the scenes. The servant at the club, Ezra, to whom the Dukes gave $5, was Avon Long, a great dancer for several decades. He performed at the Cotton Club in Harlem during the 1930s and was on Broadway a number of times, including in Porgy and Bess, playing Sportin' Life the hustler/cocaine dealer. Both Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy were in the casts of Saturday Night Live. Aykroyd was in the first cast, Murphy in the second.
31:23 "Who thought of this concept...?" It draws from several classical sources, but most would say it's heavily influenced by The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain.
The 2 train guys worked as writers on SNL for years! The ape suit guy is Jim Belushi, big movie star, but his brother was John, a superstar on SNL and movies. With wynthorpe here, they did The Blues brothers! John had the number 1 TV show, movie, and concert tour all at the same time! Then died way too soon of a drug overdose, same place Marilyn was murdered, by the mob......er ......she overdosed!😅
25:57 No, this movie precedes Coming to America. In CtA the Dukes are homeless on the street when Prince Akeem gives them a bundle of cash and one of them declares "we're back!".
The two baggage handlers transporting the gorilla 27:24 on the train are comic duo Al Franken and Tom Davis from Saturday Night Live (SNL). Al Franken would become a (D) United State Senator from 2009 to 2018.
Looking aside from this classic movie, if you go back to the jail scene when Eddie Murphy's character first gets arrested, you'll see a young Giancarlo Esposito clinging to the bars behind him....he later went on to become the guy who shot Malcolm X in the Denzel Washington film....and then, of course, became one of the greatest villains of all time....Gus Fring, in BREAKING BAD!
Gabby does some funny/great imitations so I knew this movie was gold for her and I was right! Very entertaining Gabby. Love those Christmas jammies you wearin' too! ❤🎄
In 2010 part of a law ( Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act) was passed with a specific section making insider trading on unreleased crop information illegal because of his movie. It is also known as the Eddie Murphy Rule
Great movie, Murphy and Aykroyd are legends. The same time of this movie a Major connected adoption agency in NYC was getting paid by a researcher to place twins/triplets/etc into multiple homes from low to high income and monitor them through various 'checkups' , to determine if what you become in life is reflective of Nature or Nuture. They made a documentary about it called "Three Identical Strangers", of triplets who found each other in their late teens. Crazy story.
Ralph Bellemy and Don Ameche were classically trained actors from the 40s and 50s starring next to Cagney, Bogart etc. Don Ameche was such a Gentleman he refused to say the "N' word during filming. Eddy Murphy had to joke around with him for a while to get him to say it. Bo Diddly is the Pawn Shop owner. His photo and music are in the background. Dan was a close friend of Bo.
In JLC's apartment she has a poster on the wall for See You Next Wednesday. John Landis likes to include this in a lot of his movies. It's even mentioned in Michael Jackson's Thriller video, which Landis also directed. Loving your reaction vids. Keep up the good work.
Don’t know if you know, or if someone told you, the the 2 old homeless men on coming to America that Akeem gave the McDowells bag full of money to were Randolph, and Mortimer
I know this is barely appropriate but you are simply stunning. Your laugh, your eyes and that blowtorch of a smile. No one as beautiful as you would ever spend time with me in the real world, but I appreciate being able to hang out on line. Take Care and Merry Christmas.
It's probably been said a lot, but there is a triple trading places. 1) Winthorp and Billy Ray trade places. 2) Winthorp/Billy Ray trade places with Randoph/Mortimer 3) The stock exchange is a place were trades are made.
You are absolutely beautiful, CAblend, with an amazing smile and wonderful attitude. I've been loving your reactions! ❤ Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche were Hollywood legends, back in the day. Ameche was a true gentlemen. He hated using the racial slurs and kept apologizing to Eddie Murphy, who assured him it was ok. I read that he insisted on filming that last scene on the trading room floor in one take, because he refused to say the F-word more than once. You can also see him in the 1985 Ron Howard film, Cocoon.
When you mentioned the concept of Rich people taking advantage of poor people and using them for entertainment. I thought about "Surviving The Game". A black police officer is paid to recruit young homeless black men in major cities with the promise of a job that pays extremely well to be a servant for the wealthy at a hunting resort.

Although this is a classic hilarious movie, the sad fact of the matter is that the very wealthy do indeed use people and play with their lives. If they really cared, there would be no homeless people. ("They" include people in the government who use their office to enrich themselves.)

He still delivered his lines so well. Ameche certainly didn't phone it in
He apologized in advance, and asked for everybody to get it right so he only had to do one take.
Its quite scary that noises from the mouth can be offensive.

Eddie Murphy joked on set that between him and the two actors who played the Dukes, they had been in 150 films. This was only Murphy’s third film.
Denholm elliot tye butler, was a good actor, he played Marcus Brody in the Indiana Jones franchise.
I recommend Eddie Murphy's "other" cop movie, 48 HRS. from 1982. ("Other" because most people know about Beverly Hills Cop from 1984.)
The two actors playing the Duke brothers were super famous heartthrobs from the Golden Age of film. No reactor has ever tackled any of those movies.
The guy logging in Winthrop’s possessions is Frank Oz, the muppeteer who does the voice of Grover, Bert, Miss Piggy, Fozzie bear and Yoda.
Wow I didn’t know that.
