The flaw that negates most of what he said: it is unimportant whether weed is 1% or 99% THC because people want to get only so high. All that high potency weed/etc does is require the user to consume less for the same effect. Basically, this guy assumes that EVERYONE who uses THC wants to nearly obliterate their brains with COLOSSAL levels of consumption of the stuff. That's like saying that everyone who drinks any alcohol wants to get totally, completely hammered, every time.
High potency weed is a good thing because it means we don't have to have as many inputs (soil, fertilizers, pesticides, electricity, etc) in order to get X level of output (in the form of being high). It also means that people who consume THC via smoking will inhale less smoke for the effect they desire. I have yet to see anyone address this.

Drank alcohol pretty much every day for 7 years, now a little over 4 months no alcohol. Cannabis has really helped me with that. I filed in heavy to Cannabis after quitting because I had not used it in 5 years and with all the newness around legalization in my state, it was exciting. But I hit a wall and noticed in cutting back on cannabis. Not wake and baking, smoking less and mainly only in the evening. I can see myself only using a few days a week and on weekends soon and then just a few times a week. I'm ok with that and I'm so much happier and healthier. Made my Mexicans, of course! Life is what you make of it and if people want to get high and drink alcohol, that is the poison that makes them happy. Everybody is allowed to do whatever they want. Some people want to sober up and some people are happy as alcoholics. My uncle drinks every day and he's happy even though his eyesight is failing because of the poison. But yeah, that's why people tell you to pick your poison.

I have been an occasional pot smoker for 49 years. Based on my experience pot is not nearly as dangerous as alchohol, cigarettes, or even sugar. A pot smoker is more mild mannered than a drinker. If I had to choose between a alchodrinker and a smoker to drive me home I would choose the pot smoker.
I think the laws against pot have been a travesty of justice and reprehensible. When alcohol came off prohibition law enforcement decided that pot was going to be targeted because minorities used it and it was competition for the alchohol industry. Religion called it the devil's weed.
The tobacco industry blatantly lied about the benefits of tobacco. The over consumption of sugar causes more health problems than pot.

THC is a succesful pain reliver, reduces inflammation which can help people with arthritis and other conditions, reduces some of the pain and nausea from chemotherapy, stimulates appetite which can help with certain eating disorders and chemo, is generally more safe and less addictive than alcohol, far less risky than opiods in treating pain, THC can also trigger apoptosis (cell sucide) in cancer cells,THC removes amyloid beta protein from the brain which is a neurotoxin that builds up and leads to neurodegeneration in Alzheimer patients, and who knows what else? While I agree the consumer is being led around by their nose, they stuck their nose there in the first place. This is America isn't it?

First I decided to give you a "like" and then I thought I also need to comment. Dead on point. Once something is commercialized, its a steep slope to control it. Honestly, the fact that you could grow decent weed yourself, I had always thought that that was the problem with legalizing it.

I agree whole-heartedly. This comment section was breaking my heart until I wandered upon this one. The true corruption in the selling or distribution of any product comes from the criteria of the consumer. If individual business between users of said product is not allowed, the consumers will have no choice except to extend their criteria and bite whatever business will sell. It appalls me that this conversation was not discussed BEFORE “legalization”

Especially, seniors with arthritis, gout, and many other health problems. No money is ever involved. It didn't take us long to figure out what we were doing. All plants are started from the same "Mother plant", so our results are fairly consistent. No one likes to smoke anymore but we eat a lot of brownies up here!

It's not pots fault the dispensaries are in "low income" neighborhoods and "located near the poor" when dispensaries first emerged they could be any place and they were! Then came zoning! And 95 percent of cities zoned them out!! The only cities here in Michigan now thanks to these zoning ordinances, are yes the more run down ones! Probably because the city could really use the funds, unfortunately more prominent neighborhoods don't "need" the money and zone it out! Trust me dispensaries have no issues opening in more shall I say "high class" towns! I'm sure prefer it! But unfortunately it's not allowed! And that isn't some persons scheme to get rich from the poor! Those people don't control the city ordinances, I'm sure they who ever they are would love to price gouge "rich city's" here in Michigan it's zoned out of everywhere except the big major city's (which yes have low income people's) catch 22 here damned if you do damned if you don't!

You have to weigh up the pros and cons. You may not like supporting big companies but in doing so you do have positive effects.

Then prosecute the states that are growing rn! Don’t believe me look it up! But what’s reading like conservatism even supposed to mean? 🤔 believing in god, working hard for what you have and not wanting to give 90% of it to taxes for them to give me “FREE HEALTHCARE”? Squad Bankz Yet, it was conservative politicians who really ramped up the war on drugs and it’s mostly conservative voters who keep electing and supporting politicians who are against legalization. But yeah, keep trying to justify voting against your interests...
And Biden is pretty conservative if you look at his record issue by issue so going after Biden just supports the OP 😂

@Jason Calcanis Because legalizing weed is supported by a majority of Americans, yet our drug laws haven’t changed since the 80s... Thousands of people have had their lives destroyed for smoking a harmless plant. These are people like you and me with jobs and families. Why do you have a problem with people choosing to consume cannabis, but are ok with alcohol? I thought conservatives were about personal responsibility...
Additionally, how is throwing harmless people in prison beneficial for the economy? I find the whole war on drugs a waste of my hard earned taxpayer dollars. Don’t you care about controlling the deficit and getting a new source if tax revenue that we can put toward drug treatment instead? Take off your partisan glasses and start thinking critically for once in your life, kid.

The problem is the way it is being legalized. It isn't being legalized so that you can grow your own but so that those with money can do so and make huge profits. For example, in kansas it's some a $3k per acre just to apply for the permit and then the cost go up from there and that's to grow hemp for cbd.

I would like to point out that I am a medical marijuana patient with Crohn's disease with a prescription from my family doctor. I wasn't a huge fan of getting high all the time so I tried consuming ONLY CBD and lost all of the medical benefits. It is the COMBINATION of the CBD AND THC that really bestows the medical effects. I have been in remission for 5 years by smoking about 3-4 grams a day of Cannabis, while when I tried consuming JUST CBD I had several flare ups and many symptoms that returned. To say that CBD is the only medical part of the plant is BAD SCIENCE.

The difference between medical marijuana and recreational marijuana is the same thing as the difference between medical prescription drugs and recreational use of prescription drugs.
Medical use is doing the amount the doctor suggest and for the purpose of treating a condition and and recreational use is just doing whatever amount you want for pleasure over and above concern for specific condition treatment.
Look up the difference between "self-medicating" and medicating under doctor supervision and that's the difference between medical and recreational anything whatsoever. Whether it's marijuana that were talking about or some well established and widely prescribed pill is really irrelevant.

As far as the THC increase goes... Meh. I like stronger cannabis. I'm an educated, functioning member of society. All of the GE that is applied to grow ops in areas with federalized distribution (OH, CANADA) are approved methods by leading scientists (though in Canada, I have yet to see a legal strain higher than 27% THC... I wish man, I wish!). This is not a problem.
What IS a problem is the corporate tactical methods of selling, and the criminalization of those possessing legal cannabis. I agree with him there. HOWEVER, this is not the fault of the plant; if you are looking for someone to blame, blame the neoliberal governmental system that is the USA.
In Canada, you can only buy from companies that are government officiated (in Ontario we have the OCS), which is mandated under federal legislation. This means less 1% profiteering, no detrimental selling tactics upon the ethnic minority or impoverished, and only government allowed strains.
Kids cannot buy it, as ID is non-negotiable, as there is a worker at the front of the store to screen, alongside a Canadian government enforcing officer.
Blame the terrible government style of the USA, which gives states near limitless unchecked power, and the greedy economic infrastructure, not the plant.
Aaaalso, the study he cites for THC "compounding mental illness" also makes note that these issues have to be existant in the individual at a severe degree before hand, in which case, it is STILL their choice whether they wish to consume it or not. It also states that even for said group of mentally ill people, THC can (around HALF OF THE TIME) have the exact OPPOSITE effect, and help those with mental illness due to cannabis' psychoactive properties.

Another surprising truth is that the body can only uptake a certain amount THC. That's why you can't overdose. And that not the product, but the environment people live in, is the biggest factor for getting a addiction.

Today’s pot is, unfortunately, a powerful drug. I’m an old stoner and this isn’t fun anymore. My group of friends can no longer sit around, share a bong and have fun. We have to practice ‘buzz management’. Today we can no longer take a hit from a fellow stoner because it’s now a powerful drug. Passing a joint around at a concert is a thing of the past. I was at an outdoor concert and a guy afforded me a hit. I had to politely turn him down. I now have to ask whether the joint is an indica or sativa or blend. And ,if it’s a blend, what percentage is each strain. I now have to educate myself with all of the various strains before I take a hit because I now have to get some idea as to the THC level. I have to realize all of these factors so I’ll know if I should take one hit, two hits or a half a hit. This isn’t fun anymore. If we don’t begin a serious education program with our youth, we are going to be n trouble in the near future.

    • @Hombolicious
      @Hombolicious 5 лет назад +1

This statement doesn't make enough sense. While there is theoretically a upper limit on how many receptors are active due to THC this isn't a simple calculation. THC binds with receptors in the brain, how much of the time each receptor is being activated is based in large part on the concentration of THC in the synaptic gap. When a THC molecule binds to a receptor it activates it then after some time detaches and floats away. The lag or delay between another THC molecule binding and reactivating the receptor is related to the concentrations of THC floating in the synaptic gap. As you increase concentration you reduce the time delay between bindings and so increase activation. The assumption in your comment Seph is that you ingest some weed, and the receptors bind and stay bound until the THC gets metabolised. That isn't how it works. Increasing the concentration both increases the total time receptors are activated and how many receptors are being activated simultaneously or in near succession. Lower concentrations will lower activation rates higher does will increase them. You obviously do not understand the mechanisms of how the neurons communicate pharmacologically.

The only good point he has is about the chemicals and that's just the same as what you saw, and are still seeing in the food industry with harsh chemicals on foods that them dealing with, and treating animals in cruel and unusual ways. There is a dark underbelly to any industry once it becomes wildly successful. It's about keeping it tame and not letting corruption and greed run rampant within it.

The prices were supposed to come down after legalization, but the taxes the states charge offset that. And the increased THC content is offset by not smoking as much to achieve the desired effect. "Natural" means not made in a beaker.

We used to say pot doesn't give a hangover (in moderation), but this new super weed can make one quite foggy afterwards. I can't smoke it now because of my job. Someday... I think this guys got it all wrong. Poor people aren’t poor because they smoke weed. They smoke weed to ease the stress of trying to pay rent every month. Minority groups are more likely to smoke weed because they are discriminated against. Take for example lgbtq people. They’re discriminated against and they have a huge struggle so it’s easy for them to turn to weed to ease their pain.
More kids if color are caught with weed because they come from families who are more likely to smoke weed because they’re discriminated against.
The issue isn’t weed here. It’s the discrimination against minority groups since America was founded.
