Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel! This RUclips channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf equipment reviews, golf instruction & I play against some of the best golfers in the world!
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts! - Спорт
Feels like a throwback video 🔥
After the horrible round I played yesterday, Rick was reading my mind on the video I needed! Thank you for posting this in a time of need!
Amen to that!
Throwback RS need more of these vids!!
We totally need more of these videos back. Long time since we had a coaching vid.
I’m 57 and just started golfing late last season. It didn’t take long to figure out golf is a little challenging, so figured lessons may be necessary. Took the first lesson last week and Rick’s tips are almost word-for-word the same as the instructors.
Hopefully Rick continues with these instructional videos, might save me some money.
Thanks Rick 🤘😎
2 years younger, and just started too. It is exhausting trying to remember all these hints, tips, and instructions.
@@GCKLXIX just remember one tip, and work on that until it is habit. Then move to the next thing. you wont find a good swing overnight.
Be careful getting lessons.
Make sure the instructor is truly trustworthy and very, very good. I played better golf before I ever had lessons. The instructor just wanted me to keep coming back. I wish I would've never gone to him.
Some even say Tiger went to the wrong instructor and never was the same.
It's like it has become cool to drill the guy. He knows what he's doing and these gems are free.
Appreciate the help, Rick. Was a bit nostalgic watching this!
Yeah it is sad how he has gotten so far away from the instructional videos that made him. Deserves a lot of criticism
needed this, and more like it, sometimes videos can be 10-20 minutes from pros and its great but a nice change of pace with a shorter video teaching some basics is awesome! thanks Rick 👍🏼
That’s a really helpful easy guide. Thanks Rick.
I’ve watched a lot of Rick’s videos. The one ‘new’ tip I saw here, which I don’t think I’ve seen before, was the club being a couple of inches above the knee.
That was helpful, as I understand the shoulder width, and the ball position, but struggle with how far away I should stand from the ball.
Will be doing this, next time at the range.
Thanks Rick! ⛳️
Never seen this tip before either! I will be doing this check before every single shot from now on 😁
@@PK-wo4vo genuinely think this will help get more consistent strikes. They might all be hooks or all be slices, but that’s the next hurdle 😂
How did it work for you? Feels like I'm standing way too far away from the ball when I do that.
@@Vcize felt strange, because was actually a bit closer to the ball than I normally set up (fade/slice has always been my natural shot lol) but getting used to it slowly and seeing the slice less frequently 👌🏼
Love the instructional videos. Helps my game.
I'm not a great player and barely a weekend golfer but I watched this before my second round of the year today and broke 100 for the second time. Massive difference in striking and consistency. Thanks Rick!
I really like you short and simple golf tips. Easy to understand and do. Keep them coming.
For me, this was an amazing golf lesson. Thank You😁
The instructional videos are what made this guy. Good to see one again. I basically ignore all of the other ones he produces.
This all highlights a very good point. The key to hitting good consistent shots is removing variables. I went from a 20+ handicap down to an 8 by slowly (years) removing the variables in my swing/setup. I will also say to anyone here looking to improve their game, TAKE LESSONS! While Rick is a great golf mind, he has not seen YOUR swing. You may watch a video and inadvertently 'fix' something that isn't broken.
2nd time going out this year and this was the exact lesson I learned to be more consistent, Setup is the key
I sometimes struggle with consistently setting up regarding "how far away from the ball" I am. That tip about clubhead resting just above the left knee is a GREAT one, will try that the next time I hit the range. Thanks!
After losing a slight consistency with my set up I needed this video so badly! Perfect timing thank Rick!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thanks Rick , so simple to follow
As someone who's just started golf and only had two driving range sessions so far, this comes at a great time after I just wasn't feeling comfortable today!
Tried this set up when I got home and holy crap I was making pure contact! Unsure if left or right because net but they were near middle clubface and just the sound and feel was pure af
Helpful reminders never the less. Thanks Rick
Rick at his best...coaching, total natural at this.
Thank you Rick. This video has helped me a lot! Instead of chunking or slicing my shots, I hit shots that almost looked like I knew what I was doing
🤩 just started refining my swing again for the golf season. Perfect timing with this video Rick!
I played at the Cullinan in Belek 🇹🇷 2 weeks ago ⛳. Great place.
Good to see you getting back to what you're good at.
honestly that tip about setting up the club first and stance after is such a good tip
Excellent and very helpful not over explained easy to follow guidance.
Great tips! For sure going to use them and focus on rehersing the setup next time im practicing.
Keep these coming Rick. How about some tips for those of us in the senior age bracket? 👏👏
I love this range at Cullinan Golf Club in Turkey! 🇹🇷
Love that tip Rick! I struggle with consistency being in the same position in my setup.
Great video Rick thank you instantly improved my contact and direction
Rick, this was exactly my problem this weekend. My dispersion was all over the club face. Thanks for the pointers!
This is what I started watching RS for great great vid Rick 👍
Nice video! I’ll try this next time I hit the range or the course!
I came into Rick for his instructional videos. I like that he still sprinkles some in for us. I certainly don’t expect Rick to be flawless in execution. I know I can count on sage advice from the best teacher on RUclips.
pause... you did what now?
Good tips. That’s pretty much my process too, but I might adjust my grip ever so slightly once I’ve positioned my feet to ensure it’s in the fingers , else all good.
I will definitely take this into account next time I go golfing!!!
Thanks! Going to try these this weekend
Wow a coaching video, course vlog style golf bidder challenge, just missing Rick cutting a ball in half for old time's sake! Well done as always
Really miss these short instructional videos that brought me to RS in the first place.
really enjoyed this video!
Thanks Rick. Quick question can you use the 2 inches above the knee for resting the club for the driver as well as you 6 iron? That you used in this video. Thank you.
Like the tip of there the club should hit just above knee to get the correct distance away, find that the hardest thing to judge and has so many impact on the club path I assume. Thanks Rick.
Thanks Rick, great vid!
countless hours of coaching on youtube and nobody talks about the simple stuff, well done Rick.
Great tip will use it
summer is on its way im back to watch videos here for the season
Love the og content 💪
Gonna send this one to Rick Shiels.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Needed this!
will try the knee test next time :)
thank you!
I just went and addressed a few of my clubs to see how it compared to this video... oh my gosh.. When I let my club rest against my leading leg it's almost at the top of my thigh. I tried to bring it down to just a few inches above my knee and re-address and it feels so weird. Feels like I'm reaching a mile for the ball, but I'll have to try it out later with an actual swing to see if I can even make contact.
I’m sure your tip on shaft distance away from body is great for the average player that these videos are for, but I would like to hear your opinion on why some pros set up with shaft almost touching their… other shaft.
About to take this to the course!
As always nice and easy
Another fantastic tip, thanks
Thanks Rick !!
Question Rick !
I’ve got a heated debate with a golf buddy on whether an avg golfer could win the Masters if all they had to do was putt the greens. Starting from the furthest point from pin.
Would love your insight on this.
Im saying no chance.
Hey Rick, I feel totally backwards if I don’t get my grip right and then put the club head down. My feet position always comes last though. Anytime I don’t set the grip first I feel all kinds of whack. Is this alright or should I change it?
Thank You
Great info
Literally searched this exact title this morning. Great timing lol
Still the man Rick
Getting better everyday!
One of top 3 issues in playing golf is the anxiety I have in trying to keep the game moving. I am not fastest player and more often than not find myself being pressured by other golfers and course marshals to keep'er moving. It really makes the game less fun. Resulting in playing far less golf than I would like to play. and much less desirable courses. Fortunately for me, my friends are supportive and patient.
I feel like I need to stand a tiny bit closer to the ball than most because I have extremely short arms in relation to my height. With the butt of the club dropped against my knee if it's only 2 inches above I feel as though I'm reaching too far.
Some nice tips here!
Cant wait to see all the petty snidy comments from the arm chairs slappers who cant break 90
Striping it!
baseball grip (ten finger)
Miss the RS instructional videos
I think you should be a collab with Steve Johnston Golf. He's not having the greatest of times on his channel but i think you could do a fun video together. Maybe 3 ball with Danny Maude too.
I always, but its hard, look at the ground just infront of the ball, and I get crisp shots regularly.
Love the other videos but please more of these of us weekend hackers
Why oh why would you grip before establishing shaft lean?
I can’t hit my driver or my woods or my hybrid. But I can destroy 120-150 yds with my PW easily. I’m super inconsistent with my irons too.🤦♂️ I need some professional help lmao.
Interesting to see (relatively) new entrants challenging the big brands... just goes to show how much big brand marketing works
People, just because Rick is open about posting both bad and good rounds on RUclips does not mean he’s not an excellent coach. Do you think Hank Haney , Butch Harmon, or Sean Foley can hit the ball as good as the pros? Heck, even one of the worlds best short game coaches, Dan Grieves, acknowledges he’s not great off the tee and with his irons. Across all sports, some of the world’s best coaches aren’t as good you’d think they are. It’s even more ridiculous since Rick can probably break par on a lot of the mini courses we all play.
Rick got popular on RUclips because he was posting these types of tutorials. Before he was a “RUclipsr” he was a golf coach. His advice has personally helped me go from an abysmal golfer to breaking 100. Let’s think about what we’re saying before we say it
100% agreed
You better be right, mister!!!
How to hit GOOD golf shots consistently:
1. Hit a good golf shot
2. Do the same thing again and again
I’m struggling to complete step 1, but when I do, it should be downhill from there 😅
Rick of all people giving tips to hit the ball good consistently 😂😂
I love Rick! But it does feel a little like the blind leading the blind here.😂 he is definitely qualified to teach though… so I guess the saying is true. Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach.
Looking forward to seeing more consistent rounds from you mate.
If only Rick could apply this lesson to his own golf game and hit shots consistently 🤣
Makes a video on how to hit more consistent. Turns around and replays it for him self.
do you still do golf lessons really interested
Lee Trevino shuffled. ( Haha )
Rick needs rick to advise on wedge set up😂
I’m already very consistent in hitting inconsistent shots…
Hogan 5 fundamentals
If you watch this Rick, you might be able to break 75.
Bryson taught you how to get more consistency with the bunker method. I guess you didnt learn
He should've taken his advice for the golf bidder challenge. Picking the R7s was a dumb mistake
Omg, have you seen the comments below 🤣 everyone below must be tour pros 😂😂
Practice makes perfect. It’s a saying for a reason
I do everything perfect, set up, grip, backswing, but the down swing just doesn't make any sense to me. I can do it 20 different ways and get 20 different outcomes
how to do consistent chipping, Rick ?😅😅😅
101. Ok
RS out here stickin his bum out on RUclips.
That’s how you get 2 million subscribers. 😂
Well as they say… “those who can’t do, teach!” J/k you can be a good coach without being a good player in any sport.
