Leviathan kinda appeared in FFX, if Tidus became the Final Aeon he would have been the Leviathan (which would be ironic since his father became a whale like humanoid aeon, then became a whale like sin - the leviathan in the bible was described as a whale). Also Tidus' and Chappu's sword, Brotherhood, is based on the leviathan, with the water/wave like blade and the head of the leviathan on the hilt/handguard.
Leviathan is one of my favorite summons in the series! When I played SMN on FFXI, I always reverted to Leviathan for dependable high damage output. Grand Fall was awesome and so was his 2 hour ability!
First I want to say that Leviathan has always been my favorite summon, but one thing I always found odd was that he wasn't in FFX. That was the only game with such a strict code of elemental weaknesses and the only one where water was included as not only an element but as a multi-tier black magic spell. So that being said, I always thought it was odd that that was one of the only games that DIDN'T include Leviathan. Thoughts? Also you should do one of these videos for Bismark!
There is a likely reason why Leviathan was not included in FFX. Notice how there was never a water-type summon, and then pay attention to Tidus's thematic, deeply attuned to water, and notice the game's ending.
Leviathan could make his next appearance in the Kingdom Hearts as a great secret boss to the series. In Atlantica, Sora, Donald, Goofy, Ariel, and Eric are sailing through the sea; until they were ambushed by Leviathan and Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Eric have to fight against the sea serpent. When you defeat Leviathan, he backs off and leaves you alone. Saying he was protecting his territory, mistaking you as Ursula because Leviathan was once control by the sea witch and he didn't want to be under Ursula's command anymore. Then he goes back into the water and all of Sora, Donald, Goofy, Ariel, Melody, and Eric wave goodbye to Leviathan.
So instead of being a Gummi-Ship in Kingdom Hearts I thought they can make Leviathan as a secret boss battle in some future games and made up the story of how would this serpent appear in some future Kingdom Hearts games.
So what makes a summon stronger than another in Realm Reborn? Is it its followers, the presence of the element they represent on the planet (like there is more water than fire so Levi is stronger than Ifrit) or something that is never discussed?
basically. how dire their situation, the crystals they collect, aether, there are a few things that can influence their power but it centers around the followers.
when you are doing the quest to fight the primal's hard mode they say that the followers got more crystals, which make them able to summon them stronger... possible due to major flow of aether... so the more or the stronger their crystals, the stronger the summon will be
in final fantasy 7 he had more lore he was the 'god' and he was a sacid materia only earned throu combat only for i think hairs to the way of the ninja there is still lesser lore i forget atm but i do know you can get a key item his scales witch has a little bit of lore of their own but they are mostly used to get items from a fire cave
I think it was said that it wouldn't happen until the level cap is raised. Source can be found here: goo.gl/bzr3Xe I'm also sure that the level cap was said to come along with the first expansion for XIV, or some time after that.
Leviathan was always one of my favorites, but he never struck me as that epic unless I was fighting him and even then he was a pain in my ass. To me Bahamut will always beat him out though.
I like the bestiary vids. Have you ever thought about doing vids about the history of jobs like warrior, paladin , black mage, etc. I think it would be interesting
the history of Paladin might be the most interesting, as it was a big part of the plot in one of the old games.. I can't remember which number, but it was my favorite plot when I was a teenager.
Too bad his story from FFXI was retconned a bit, since they later said Admiral Veydal used Yagrush and Aymur, a club and axe to kill Leviathan, neither of which he lost in the fight, since the Aht Urghan Emperor took them from him later.
I was really upset that Leviathan did not get any role in FF X. The game's theme was water, and they decided not to use the king of the seas.

JulianSkies I'm pretty sure I've seen fan art depicting Tidus as the Fayth for Leviathan...
Interestingly, Leviathan is the ONLY Water-elemental Materia in FF7, and thus the only one capable of adding water affinity to your weapon or armor.

leviathan also seems to be on xv's logo, seems like hes going to have a pretty huge role in that game
I'm really getting into this Bestiary, keep it going! I'd like to see you do Titan.
i like Leviathan the most out of all summons or whatever they are called in all the games
Love this series happy..keepem comin!
I really like the Bestiary series :)
dont forget leviathan was present in final fantasy unlimited as well... he played kinda strong role there along with bahamut
You missed Leviathan being the most powerful boss next to Omega in Chocobo's Dungeon 2
He was my favorite summon in FFXI. :)
This is my favorite FF summon
He's also a water god in brave Exvius
Was waiting for this one!

pretty much followers have the largest influence.. also if iremember correctly.. the more desperate his followers are the stronger the summon becomes
when you are doing the quest to fight the primal's hard mode they say that the followers got more crystals, which make them able to summon them stronger... possible due to major flow of aether... so the more or the stronger their crystals, the stronger the summon will be
Do you know if we will be able to get his Egi? I hope so like u said he's epic and my fav but I really hope we can
in final fantasy 7 he had more lore he was the 'god' and he was a sacid materia only earned throu combat only for i think hairs to the way of the ninja there is still lesser lore i forget atm but i do know you can get a key item his scales witch has a little bit of lore of their own but they are mostly used to get items from a fire cave
My favourite GF from ffviii and cos of that he was my favourite avatar to show off in FFXI
Do you think that Leviathan along with Shiva and Ramuh will be added as Egi for Summoners in the 2.2 patch? Just curious.

Logan Forrests Thanks, that sounds about right. I'm looking forward to it.
Can't seem to get you on Facebook

Any chance of a leviathan egi.

I agree I always liked the dragoons and monks in FF
hmm leviathan also called the goddess of the sea and refer as a she in final fantasy 15

also ff 15
In XV, Leviathan is a she, I believe.
yes
I how Scholar get a new Summon pet,
You sound disappointed every time his prominence is reduced in a game.
In FF15 Leviathan is female
