As a correction (someone probably already mentioned this), there is more than one method of obtaining Odin in Final Fantasy IX, as Dark Matter can also be won at the Auction House without ever having to find Ozma. Additionally, when Garnet is later able to obtain the equipment ability Odin's Sword, Zentetsuken gains the ability to inflict damage as well as attempting instant KO. With this ability, Odin's lower MP cost makes him an arguably more-efficient summon spell compared to Bahamut and Ark, since Odin will likely inflict 9999 damage to all targets at the end of the game if he also has Boost equipped. By the end of the game, he was my offensive method of choice for Garnet.
Glad to see you have brought the Bestiary series back. I always enjoy your insightful commentary on Final Fantasy and its creatures. It is very nostalgic and informative. Keep up the good work.
5:35 You can win Dark Matter from the Treno auction house, much easier and much earlier in the game. Also technically Dagger starts off with Odin as one of her initiate Edolon's. He is extremely expensive to use however, a whopping 112mp. But if you are very, very patient, and I mean we're probably talking at least a dozen extra hours here, given the extremely high level she'd need to be and the low experience the enemies give you so early on, you can get Dagger's Mp high enough to summon Odin before he is forceably extracted from her in the story. Also I feel I should mention that Ipsen's Castle seems to have a connection to Odin since his massive sword appears within it chained to a wall. Upon inspecting it you'll be awarded the Ancient Aroma (it appears to be a women's perfume) which grants Dagger the Odin's Sword ability, allowing Zantestuken to deal wind damage to enemies who survive the instant death effect. img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120611224322/finalfantasy/images/6/6e/Ipsen%27sCastleSwordRoom.png
Odin also appeared in Lightning Returns, but I realize not a lot of people like that game for whatever reasons. Just thought I'd mention it either way.
Love the series. Would love to see it more regulary again :D. I mean I know most of it anyways, but I usually get some information I dont know and also its fun to see stuff compared through the series.
1 Correction, Mr. Happy. You can get Odin looooooooooooooong before Ozma. You should at the very least get some Dark Matter through Chocobo Hot and Cold. Technically you could skip that chocoplate, but it's much easier to do it that way.
The FFXIV minion guide gives some extra info on Odin: It appears Odin got the sword Zantetsuken from an Auri warrior he had defeated. This warrior was the first to ever damage Odin's armor. This explains why a Nordic god is using a weapon with a Japanese name. In some versions of Final fantasy Zantetsuken is called "Atomic Edge". Wich refers to its sharpness.
Nemhyz Two years after your comment, Odin still wrecks PUGs. He can't be zerged if going at him synced. If you ignore mechanics in this fight, you will lose.
A little FYI, in Final Fantasy 9 there is another way to obtain Odin other than stealing from Ozma. The auction house in Treno will also sell Dark Matter.
Its been very long since I played FF9 and i remember little of it. I do remember having Odin fairly early in the game. And later obtaining an item wich let him do massive damage instead of instakilling wich made him more viable in alot of situations like bosses.
I would like to add that "Odin" is rendered in Old English as "Woden", and was the source of the English "Wednesday" Additionally, Tiw, the Norse God of Combat, is the source of the word "Tuesday" Thusday was named for Thor (You need to get out and watch some movies if I have to tell you who Thor is) Friday is named for Frigg, the wife of Odin, in Norse Mythology. This is debatable, though, as it may also be derived from Freja (Pronounced "Freya"... anyone here played FF9?), who is the Norse Goddess of Love. Due to similar pronunciation, it could be derived from either. Saturday was named for the Roman God Saturn, And Sunday and Monday were named for the Sun and the Moon, respectively. (I know, I know... "STFU already, Condon!! Quit being a know-it-all!" right?)
Out of all the cammeos, which one is your guys fav appearence? For me its Crisis Core,I mean his summon animation is so fucking dope where he draws Zantetsuken from his arm,Slepnier neighing toward the night sky then, then they LITERALLY kumo off a mountain and charge at you head on with Odin weidlding a flaming sword
Counter to what you said about Gil in FF 8. wheni fought the final form of last boss i had him show up twice in a 60 second window. one time he used excalibur and the other exicalipoor so its possible just very low chance
nope was in the final form. back in the day i use to record myself on vhs killing the end final fantasy bosses form y brothers to watch. i twas the form where she combined with her own summon
Um your information of Sleipnir is wrong for FFIII. Sleipnirs are not bosses in the game, they are just average normal encounters found in Eureka. But still, good video.
Trevor Bolen Look at the release date. The information you just said was only recently revealed with the patch making him a primal battle earlier this year.
While I like your videos and am entertained, some of your facts are a little inaccurate. Like Ozma isnt the only place you can get dark matter. And Ragnarok is a battle that was supposed to happen feb 22, 2014 and was supposed to destroy them world (more or less). Obviously it didn't. Just small stuff like that.

This video also came out before Lightning Returns
Ah, did not realize that lol. My bad.
Cool stuff, are you going to do one about Gilgamesh? I always wondered about Gilgamesh and where he came from and whatnot. anyhow, cool vids mrhappy~
Love the series. Would love to see it more regulary again :D. I mean I know most of it anyways, but I usually get some information I dont know and also its fun to see stuff compared through the series.
About time one of these got made.

Good video, very informative. Fought Odin today on my FFXIV Server.
Odin in Type-0 is, in my opinion, the most badass and epic incarnation.
The FFXIV minion guide gives some extra info on Odin:

Stefan Voorhout i think the minion guide only counts for xiv lore. some final fantasy games have completely different lore. could be the same though
*FFIX You can also buy Dark Matter in the auction house to get him earlier than the Ozma encounter.
well now i realize why this bastard is so powerful XD
Should also note in ffxiv, the elder primal is actually the sword and not the rider.
He's one of the most badass iconic FF figures.
I like how the Gilgamesh from 7 has those fake arms.
Also, you can get some dark matter in 9 way before Ozma.
Yay! I missed this series!
Odin was also in revenant wings as a tier three non elemental melee. You could get dark matter in the auction too.
I hope Odin gets a role bigger than lolzergboss later on in XIV. :(
Odin Savage would be the bee's knees
Nemhyz Two years after your comment, Odin still wrecks PUGs. He can't be zerged if going at him synced. If you ignore mechanics in this fight, you will lose.
Zhan-Tetsu-ken tsu being pronounced as tsoo don't mean to badger about it I normally call it youdienow
I love these Bestiary episodes!
Nice to see the return of the Bestiary :D
And in Lightning Returns, Odin is a white chocobo, referred to as Angel Of Valhalla.
In XIV it is later revealed that Odin is actually the Sword and what we fight are people he is possessing
Also, the FF14 iteration of Odin is a EQ and random boss in Phantasy Star online 2 as part of the PSO2xFF14 collaboration
Glad to see another bestiary dude. They are some of your best videos
A little FYI, in Final Fantasy 9 there is another way to obtain Odin other than stealing from Ozma. The auction house in Treno will also sell Dark Matter.

In FFIX, you can actually get Dark Matter in the auction house in Treno much earlier on.
In the name of Odin.

nice video Happy! keep it up these videos are awesome!
He also is one of the 5 Summons that appear in Super Smash Bros 4.
he just spawned as a lalafell in the kujata server my theory is who ever dealt last blow becomes odin next time just sharing
Thought that too originally, though it could be something else, considering even if you fail he still changes forms :)
i thought also that maybe its who ever bought odin gear after beating him too but then that wouldn't explain how he first spawned in the first place
Talking about him, when he pop in FFXIV exactly? Never see him yet, only on youtube
Love your content.
Also Odin appears in Soul Sacrifice Delta.
So i was wondering did odin and alexander in ff8 do battle on the centra ruins therfore obliterating that advanced civilization ?
Counter to what you said about Gil in FF 8. wheni fought the final form of last boss i had him show up twice in a 60 second window. one time he used excalibur and the other exicalipoor so its possible just very low chance
If within that window she was in two different phases I believe these count as different encounters :)
nope was in the final form. back in the day i use to record myself on vhs killing the end final fantasy bosses form y brothers to watch. i twas the form where she combined with her own summon
Um your information of Sleipnir is wrong for FFIII. Sleipnirs are not bosses in the game, they are just average normal encounters found in Eureka. But still, good video.
So...Sora learned Odin's must powerfull attack?
A much weaker version of it, yes. It's really more of an homage though. Which is kind of the whole point of Kingdom Hearts.
you missed a few tiny details here and there
what's with the FFXIV thing on the bottom?
i thought zantezuken the sword was actually the primal? in ffxiv anyways
Trevor Bolen Look at the release date. The information you just said was only recently revealed with the patch making him a primal battle earlier this year.
I remember being SO. PISSED. when Gilgamesh killed Odin in FF8.
you mean Seifer killed Odin and for him came Gilgamesh as random triggered summon.
nice vid! make 1 for the one and only Gilgamesh pls! :D
you forgot Ligtning retruns!
this was made before lightning returns was released
Oh yeah thanks for accommodating for my mistake. In that case "adds return to the list"
Weak against Lightning.
Mrhappy you so pro n cool!
yay bestiarys

FF best char is quistis lol
