in the last mins of the video you comment on the suspension of the previous gen being better. I actually sat as passenger in a 2008 tiguan, back in 2014 and the suspension and dampening was really good, even compared to my 2006 passat i was driving at the time. I drive a GLA 2021 now and the comfort is nowhere near as good as the tiguan back then. I guess it is the setup of Merc to not want the car to bend a lot in corners with the stiffer suspension, but you really do sacrifice in comfort, especially in consecutive anomalies of the road. It could be also that back then, i was on German roads while now living in Greece (much worse roads with many potholes and bumps everywhere in the cities). Highway comfort is good though but for many cars is the same i guess. I found the new Enyaq more comfortable and think to myself that maybe i should have waited a bit..

The old tiguan was coming out with the rear door electronics better in the window switches at least for the driver is better off than the new

I heard that the interior quality in newer VW cars have downgraded after they lost money from the diesel scandal. Is that true with the new Tiguan? Is the interior not as good as the old one?

The newer car's boot looks small for such a big car. Yes I know it has a spare wheel underneath. it's still small.

+Marek Drives What trim are these Tiguans? Thanks for the comparison. I've been thinking whether I should get a 2014 Tiguan SEL or something from a newer year. Doesn't seem like there are huge difference though the 2016 one looks more high-techie and wider.
I have no idea, what SEL means by European standards. The black Tiguan is Highline (that's top trim in Europe). The beige one is who knows what, because it was imported from the Middle East.

I've been waiting for someone to make the comparison of the older and newer generation Tiquan for a long time. I would like a road comparison of both old and new generation Tiquans. That being said, I have to beg to differ with you on the looks. The new one to me looks far better all around and also looks meatier as well. I was surprised to find out from you that the suspension is perhaps firmer on the new one or perhaps less compliant on road bumps. BMW had that problem with the e-90 and had to change the shock rates to make the 2007 more compliant than the first model e90 in 2006 which had a terrible ride on rough roads and could even be jarring. Overall, I'm a big fan of Volkswagen for their innovative and ergonomic engineering approach while still offering handling and driving pleasure, nimbleness and joy at a reasonable price. Good video.
On the road I like the older one better.
As far as suspension is concerned VW claims it has nothing to do with comfort, because damping is good. It's just the sound made by the adjustable suspension. I had a similar problem with Volvo XC90. Perhaps it's the same supplier. Anyway, there's no excuse for a car, which costs around 50k euro to have noisy suspension, even if it doesn't impact ride comfort.

Use your head. The engine is EXACTLY the same. The OLD one weighs LESS and the suspension is STIFFER.
Which one do you THINK drives better?

Realistically speaking - spring. I couldn't go to the launch event, and now I'm waiting for a test car in Poland. I'll be taking a winter break from filming (bad weather), so unless they give me the car within a couple of weeks, I'm going to book a test drive late February/early March.

So you get a power tailgate, big screens inside, more toys, but.... it has less space, worse suspension, and the same boot which is kind off bigger becouse you dont have a spare tire. Ofc this car, since its new gets a nice price increase from the old model....

i hope you were being sarcastic, the new has more interior space (measured, not fcked up "opinions"), lighter, stiffer, technology that other brands don t even have as an option, it brakes by itself if it detects a pedestrian, autonomous driving to a certain speed, coasting capability, etc etc etc etc etc

But the bottom line is, the new one has the same engine, is heavier and has a less stiff tranny.

The old car sold terribly in the U.S. (compared to its rivals). The new car reflects the things most Americans want.
@@genogrinberg6014 you made many mistakes, the new Tiguan is bigger inside and out and weighs less,it has DSG,it has better fuel economy, does not need premium fuel, and it does not have the same engine, the new Tiguan uses a newer TSI engine which is more reliable.
Very nice comparison. Maybe ride and comfort comparison also? Also, dont forget new vs old for other cars. Very useful to know what you really get by spending more.
As far as ride is concerned, IMO the old one is better. I spoke to VW about the issue of suspension noise in new cars. The press office claims this noise is related to Dynamic Chassis Control. Allegedly it does not impact the ride quality, just noise on bumpy roads. I beg to differ, but I will have to verify it by myself in months to come. It's hard to find a VW press car in Poland without DCC.
Mk7 golf (non-DCC) has also suspension noise. Just have to get used to that. Known problem, if it gets too loud, then people have gotten new shock absorbers. Is this MQB thing? Anyways, honest comparison old vs new is very interesting.

Any comparison with the drive and fuel consumption?
One is an old 2-litre TSI, the other is a new 2-litre TDI. No comparison to make.
The new one is much better in term of fuel economy, the old one is more sporty to drive.
2016 more big?...and what a fuel consumption for 2010?
Terrible. 12L/100 km in the city, 7-8 extra urban.

520l is real boot of new Tiguan and 615 are only when you slide back seats all the way to front seats ,but then you cant sit on back seats

I don't like too big cars which chev tahoe, volkswagen tuareg and now of course new tiguan. They eats much petrol 20-25 litres. But I funner about models toyota. Old tiguan is like to fortuner while new tiguan - cruiser. A lot of diesel cars in Europe. On my place diesel only trucks. There are japan cars in Novosibirsk;)

@@Revealthereal_ First it was a diesel and and caught up in the emissions scandal, no compensation from VW. Then 3 expensive stop/start batteries in 4 years. Finally it has a "rubber problem", All suspension, engine, gearbox and drive shaft rubbers replaced at a cost of $3000 after 40,000km.Think it is a lemon. Take care and check it out before you buy.

@@zelemesve possibly, but all of that new tech doesn’t come cheap, so I guess they had to compromise somewhere to keep the price at a reasonable level, that’s just my view
