My pot roast has four basic ingredients: a package of Lipton onion soup, a can of cream of mushroom soup (plus one can of water), some chopped onion and some sliced mushrooms. Everyone seems to love it, and any leftover gravy can be used in subsequent meals with pork or even with chicken. I live alone, so I freeze gravy in sandwich-sized bags for individual portions.

The thing I don’t like about most roast recipes, roast beef, pork, pot roast, is that they all say to put in the onions, carrots, potatoes and whatever other veggies in first. Some even say to sauté the veggies first, then they are already half cooked. That’s OK if you don’t plan to eat the veggies, just using them for flavor. If I’m going to cook veggies, I’m going to eat them, except maybe the onions. My mother always cooked the roast with onions, but the vegetables were always put in the last 30 minutes or so. We never liked our veggies turned into mush. I’m sure that with this recipe I could add some veggies during the last 30 minutes. I could cook the veggies separately, but putting them in the same pot with the roast gives the veggies a little extra flavor and I don’t have another pot to clean.

I remember when Lipton onion soup mix was first being used in roasts in the 60's. Mom tried it with our Sunday eye of round chuck roast and we all loved it and the gravy made from the juices was so good. I make it as often as I can and it's the same delicious flavors!

If your making this the day before you can take the meat out out thr juice in the frige for a little while and that fat will get hard turn whitish and you can just get it all out with a slatted spoon all the juice will run out of the spoon but all the cold hard fat will stay in the spoon and just throw it away after you ger all the fat out you can warm it up and pour it on the meat. Also I make roasr similar to this but i dont use the lipton onion soup mix I use 2 cans of Campbells french onion soup but I bet it taste wonders with the lipton soup mix too...
    looks really good❤😊

Lol lol , when you pulled off the freshness pad made me think what I did one time. I also had a beautiful chuck roast, put it in the crockpot with my seasonings and let it cook slow all day. Went to turn off crockpot looked inside to see how tender it was and saw white pieces of paper in it had no idea what it was so I went to turn over the roast and there was the freshness pad, I had cooked it all day too, I had to throw out my roast.

Instead of pouring all that juice AND fat on the meat, I would have snipped a corner of the liner and let the juices go into the roast and stopped the juices once it reached the fat top. Then just through the bag and layer of fat in the trash!! I will be making this, Melaney from SoCal

I always make my roast exactly like my granny did. She always browned hers good all over on top of the stove. Then she cut 2 onions really thick and put them under the browned roast. Cut up your carrots and potatoes, throw them in , salt and pepper everything good. Add 2-3 cups of water , cover and simmer on med low for 3-4 hours. It’s so good… My granny’s roast is my favorite meal. But this looks delicious Tammy. ❤❤

Pick up the plastic liner, tilt to the corner, snip the end of the corner and let the good juice drain out and the fat will stay on the top, in the bag
I cook mine similar, only in a cast iron pot, in the oven at 190 degrees for 6-8 hours. It does come out great and it dont last long

just use a low salt cooking soup instead of the dry onion soup. I can't tolerate onion, so when I make this I use Campbell beefy mushroom. Just look for an appropriate low sodium soup or I use a dry gravy package, but only use half.
Taco seasoning is full of salt. Look at the ingredients and make your own. Leave the salt out. For any of these online recipes I cut the salt to a 1/4 to a 1/8 of what is called for. You can always add a bit more.

Ok.... I have a question 🤔. You never add water to the roast ? Mannn all these years I've been doing it wrong?
I like your au jus better than mine. Hmmm .

I've been making this for my family since the 70's... Its so good! I use the Brown Gravy Mix on some of my roasts and with potatoes, carrots, n onions... Sometimes I just make mashed potatoes n pour the gravy over them and serve with other sides! So delicious! Several ways to cook your roast. Yummy!

We cooked a roast this way yesterday. I sampled it last night and will enjoy having it tonight for my dinner. It's great to know that something so easy to do can still taste great. Thanks.

So Delicious! One of my favorites is Beef Roast. I hope you saved a little taste for the furry babies 🐶. I saw them patiently waiting when you were pouring the Au Jus over the roast. 💜
