Born too late to buy vintage annuals when they were new, born too early to buy personalized transformers using my brain and a 3d printer; born just in time to watch Gav talk about whatever he wants and just enjoy his humor.
I had this one as a kid. I think the cover and that front and back inside art stuck with me the most though. You can tell Headmasters were the big deal in 87 from this. Wish I had some of them. All my friends did so I had to keep borrowing their toys. The idea that a little man could be in control of a big robot by being it's head made me dream of a future where I could transform into the head of my own personal robot. It's 2022 and we still don't have that tech. Can't believe Hasbro sold us those lies.
i honestly love the 85's-87's-88's eras of the g1 toyline, especially 87's,from the unique targetmasters and thier designs and personailtys (my personal favourites are:slugslinger-triggerhappy-crosshairs-sureshot-pointblank),and the terrorcons, one of my fan favourite combiner teams, and scorponok one of the best g1 designs, and the great headmasters (my personal favourites are:hardhead-highbrow-mindwipe-wierdwolf-skulkcruncher),and the list goes on
I love the vintage Transformers toy catalogues, I first learned how to draw by copying the pictures, especially Devastator and the Dinobots. I would keep all my drawings in the bottom drawer of our cabinet and my ma would show them off every time we had visitors. I think it helped a lot to build up my confidence and my ma's own way of encouraging me to keep drawing.
I appreciate the humbleness of your headmaster stats. As a kid I would have totally filled that in with all 6s and 9s (who am I kidding, I’d still do it now!)
Great review. I love these little annuals. Looking at them reminds me of a simple time when a neat story and great art would entertain me for hours. What am I saying, it still does that! Don't sell yourself short on the intelligence scale, Gavin. You're definitely higher than a 5. Maybe even higher than a 6 or 7 or something...
It’s weird that they put Ultra Magnus vs Galvatron in the middle of the book instead of saving it for last. Feels like it should be the book’s grand final.
In the Japanese Headmasters series the Headmasters were Cybertronian civilians, who had left Cybertron during the long war, and settled on the planet Master. The planet was extremely dangerous, so they eventually built larger transforming bodies called Transtectors that were just drones piloted by the Headmasters.
0:43 LIES, IT'S ALL LIES. But why wasn't Ultra Magnus leader? Was it a last minute change just so they wouldn't have another truck guy be the Leader? Fuck knows. But after the movie, Magnus kept getting robbed in subsequent continuities.
what a nostalgia-fest. I remember getting this for Christmas and poring over every page (aside from the prose stories, of course). The Swoop/Divebomb dynamic and cliffhanger-ish ending were my favourite part; I remember being mildly upset at seeing Ultra Magnus drowning in lava and equally mildly discomfited by Galvatron's apparent resurrection. Overall, though, pretty crap, if I'm being objective.

Wow 200 already?!? The last 100 flew by! I am expecting some epic self indulgent rubbish next episode!
Darn, now I'm nostalgic for 80's era of toy promotions on wastelands and rocks.

I appreciate that you wrote in the vintage book. Good on ya!
Nothing I loved more as a child than poring over a good catalogue. No Argos was safe
No way!!! A cheeky Deaths Head at 4:00. Again, another stellar vid Gavin ❤️🙏
Repugnus is one to talk about self indulgence while trying to wear Scorponok.
I’ve been reading these since you started doing these videos. Most of them eluded me for many years
I still have this and the Scorponok one. Still love them.
how am I nostalgic for stuff I wasn't even born to see?

Has anyone ever said that the Decepticon base from that Galvatron vs Magnus story looks like a giant toilet?
Aahh! This is the one! I know these stories back to front.
"Wrong Galvatron. The real victory is mine.."
Oooh Gav, perfect timing for an upload.
I finally found it. The book that first introduced me to Transformers in 2013, when I was only 8...
Sorry do you mean 28
@@TRDQ Nope.

Yooo!!!!, I was waiting for the next one of these!
I predicted the stats you'd give yourself a good five seconds in advance. Feeling pretty smug rn not gonna lie.
I hope Skullgrin is in the 88 annual!
That's not a "7" that's a backwards "f" lol.

6:30
Repugnok or Skorpugnus ?
i wish i could have a STR stat of 7
I'm sure I had all these, but being dyslexic AF, I just looked at the pictures. I couldn't read the prose, comics, or even the quizzes!
You're not missing much, haha

Five?? In 1987?? Wow you're old.
How Hot Rod of you.
As a big She-ra fan, I would love to see you do more MOTU stuff.
Did you enjoy the finale of He-man 2021?
I did!
@@TRDQ I'm glad :3
That comic art is leaking with 80's...ness.
