I think this is one example of Go-Bots' handy smaller size; You could not make a playset/star ship for the larger Transformers back in the 80's, unless they were micromasters.
Hell, show me one today. The closest I can think of is the unicron trilogy having micromaster sized playsets that also combined with big lads, like Armada Optimus.
I liked the huge variety of sizes in Transformers _but_ will say that, for the standard small Gobots size, they had better quality than TFs of a similar size. It was like a mid-way point between the quality of an Autobot Car and the size and simplicity of an Autobot Mini-Vehicle.
I love how you barely held back your own laugh after the AT-AT joke, makes this one feel more special. But yeaaaah, the implications on that command center are highly questionable at best, war crimes at worst.
There used to be a site called counter-x. It had all kinds of stuff, but the go-bots content was the best. It would have really in depth reviews of the gobot show that would actually take deep looks into the sci fi content of the world building and some of the implications of it... yeah, Gaurdians having questionable ethics at times made it there. Same site would actually have a lot of other reviews like Classic Dr Who or Machine Robo but most episode reviews of those would be a paragraph while Go bots would get like an entire page with sub headings. Sites lost to the web and hard to view even on archive, but this brought back some memories. Anyway, looking forward to more reviews, it's going to be fun.
What I love about Go-Bots is that even to this day, Hasbro is still acknowledging them and using them every now and then. An example that comes to mind is Road Ranger from the Golden Disc Two Pack that they did a bit ago. But it's nice isn't it? That even after all this time, they are still coming out every now and then as a "brand new" figure!
The tonal contrast of light-hearted techno-foodie puns in the cafeteria with a Clockwork Orange-style "reprogramming centre", and Torquemada-esque (the Nemesis the Warlock one) "disintegration station" is genius. Love this monstrosity. And the rebranding of TRDQ into TRDQ is equally inspired! You don't have to create a new logo design or run the risk of losing fans. I think most us would be quite happy to listen to you reviewing a brick. Which, come to think of it, you've actually done with PowerMaster Prime, Broadside, Quickswitch etc.
The story on behind the enemy reprogramer is that a majority of the renegades were actually normal gobots who were basically brainwashed into being minions of cy-kill some were even expiramented on and were created into freakish gobots monstrosities for cy-kill and the other renegades to use in battle As for how i know this, well the official hannah barbera youtube channel had posted some clips of the gobots tv show and some clips of episodes had appeared on RUclips over the years and there was even a DVD box set i believe
My GoBot command center used the same nine volt battery for nearly 20 years. And now, I get to hear the same tone whenever the alarm goes off on my fuel panel at work.
I still remember when I was in 2nd grade and seeing some other kids at school with the Command Center. I was entranced by the red of the bridge and the sleek curves of the play set. I did get one myself, but well after Transformers had buried Go-Bots. Which didn't matter to me and my friends. All transforming robots were part of the same warband of the kid that owned them. And mine had a lot of space shuttles (Super Spay-C, Astrotrain, Blast Off).
Congrats on getting to 200 episodes without getting entirely sick of our nonsense. Really shows how strong and great a character you have. Looking forward to all them toy reviews but if you make me want He-Man figures I'll be thoroughly ticked off while looking for where to buy them. They are real tempting ain't they? There's a Movie Skeletor coming out. Might not be able to resist that.
Many thoughts about this episode. I'm in love with the Gobot command center's unique combination of daft and dark. The screaming face at the top of war crime tower got a big laugh out of me. As for the war crimes themselves like the reprogramming station, the Transformers may not have depicted such acts in their toys but I just watched an episode of the g1 cartoon where Optimus Prime was pretty enthusiastic about using "Dominator Disks" to brainwash the constructicons. Freedom is the right of all sentient beings eh? I'll admit the rebrand saddens me a little only because I thought it was pretty funny whenever another toy snuck on but I'll always love this show. I'm always happy to see you pop up in my feed and I'll keep watching these videos no matter what the T stands for. Looking forward to 200 more.
Great review! Thank you! Yeah, GoBots get a bad rap, but they were fun, and they were affordable. What's more, they had so much more to choose from, right from the go. Sure, they had sports cars and trucks and jets, but they also had motorbikes, locomotives, scooters, antique cars, seacraft, monsters -- WAY before TransFormers offered them. Congratulations on 200 episodes, and looking forward to seeing whatever you're planning on doing!
My dad has a few go-bots from when he was a kid; my favorites have always been the forklift guy (which you have in the video, nice!) and the submarine guy. The submarine one is cool because transformers didn’t have very many submarines until sixshot was rebranded as one
This was released about a year before Mark Gruenwald did his Squadron Supreme maxi-series, which also featured "heroes" that brain-washed their enemies. I think we can definitively say Gruenwald drew his inspiration from this playset.
Was in a bit of a GoBots kick, so I rewatched this one! Still a favorite, I love the suspiciously heinous Guardians. I'm glad for the rebrand, it's great to see you film other tat!
I also started collecting Gobots/Machine Robo this year, I really like the two I have for now: SteamRobo (Loco) and White Body CessnaRobo (Waterwalk) I would love to see more reviews of them in this channel.
Congrats on 200! I vaguely remember playing with this at a friend's house but my abiding memory is from Tom Scioli's comic interpretation - pure 80s scifi horror. Looks like it was ever thus
Wow Gav, 200 funny, fast paced, reviews. I’m VERY excited for Toy reviews done quick, let me tell you. And of course, episode 200 itself is an all timer
I actually got a Gobot from my aunt when she worked in Japan in the 80's before I got my first Transformer. It was Royal-T and I played him to death (literally) till his arm fell off. I was so heartbroken that my pa fixed him by reattaching it with copper wire. The rich kids in school brought their Starscreams and Voltrons and Macross VF-1s to school but as much as I wanted to bring Royal-T so I can show them that I too, had an expensive transfoming robot from Japan but I didn't want to accidentally lose him.
Aaahhh! I MISSED THE PREMIERE. Work just gets in the way sometimes. I did like the GOBOTS simplicity in the designs. The Command Center and the Renegade Thruster were both solid playsets for a neat little toyline. Again, great review!
I found one of these at a garage sale in the 1980s when I was a kid, and that same one currently sits in my closet. And yes, it was my stand-in for the AT-AT back then.
ive been using this playlist to fall asleep to because its so nice and relaxing. so imagine how terrified I was when, in my dream, the train car I was in began flooding and I woke up to that sound at 3:05 and didnt have time to discern whether I was actually in a train car slowly flooding or my nice, comfy bed with this video on in the background.
I'm in the TF camp but one thing Machine Men had over us was proper play sets with an _inside_ to put figures into. Standing toys on top of cityformers always seemed to be missing something.
Hooray for branching out to more toys! Looking forward to some good He-Man reviews from you! Also, good form maintaining your acronym through a transition!
Congrats man! I’m happy to say that I have watched, liked and have been entertained by every single video you’ve made. Keep up the great work, my dude! 👍
Much as I'd like to say the first transforming toy I ever bought was a Transformer it was in fact a Gobot: Tank! The second was 'Road Ranger' (Great seeing him here in all his trucky goodness). These boys were actually the last I got rid of when I was finally pressurised by society into replacing fun and imagination with teenage angst and tax returns. No wonder I now have a cupboard filled with Transforming toys. Hah! Whose got the last laugh now, eh? MUH,HAH, HAHA!!!!
Wow, I’ve never heard of this before! It feels very Star Trek or Battlestar Galactica (original series at least.) I do like that big face at the top, it’s like the inside of a bionicle!
I look forward to the rebranding of TRDQ into TRDQ but I also look forward to the eventual re-rebranding into TRDQ(Toby's Reviews Done Quick) where Toby supplants both Gavin and Repugnus to become the rightful host of the show.
The real theater of the mind here is pretending the guardians aren’t using the reprogrammer and de-materializer for ANY renegade they encounter, including children
how DARE YOU change your branding??? I much preferred TRDQ. Jokes aside it's great to see you give yourself more freedom, even if I don't care about much other toylines I'll definitely watch the new videos!
So this is basically a military base that commits all sorts of atrocities and war crimes against Renegades for where they stand………but hey at least there’s a cafeteria???…..
IIRC the De-Materializer was just the Go-Bots version of the Star Trek transporter so at least that one's a bit less sinister, although placing that right next to the prison and the tort---er, interrogation chamber does seem a bit sketchy. Not as sketchy as "enemy reprogramming center" though. "Renegades *have* no rights! They gave up their rights when they became Renegades!" -Leader-1 probably
I think the Gobots could work well in an actual Transformers show. Two factions of cybertronian colonists fighting each other. Make an episode where a few Autobots and Decepticons show up and interfere. It’d be a good chance to make fun of some cliché’s in the franchise without dragging down the importance and tone of the main war. Ok, I’m done.
I can name sort of every go bot i owned as a child. right now though i only have puzzler, drill guy, deluxe space C, future car that is based on the car from an anime called Cobra and road ranger.
I love the war crimes base having a cafeteria, it’s like the fact that the pentagon has a Taco Bell

A "build a playset" gimmick could be fun.
@@austinreed7343 Dude, yeah! They could bring back Weaponizers to this end!

Huh, Counter-X is gone? I wonder what happened?

When you put it like that, Leader One even sounds like a dictator name

Ooooh Gav, you’ve done it now, becoming a go-bot reviewer? That’s hit an itch I’ve had for years.
The story on behind the enemy reprogramer is that a majority of the renegades were actually normal gobots who were basically brainwashed into being minions of cy-kill some were even expiramented on and were created into freakish gobots monstrosities for cy-kill and the other renegades to use in battle

200th episode! I'm so proud of my baby brother. You've created something entirely unique and I'm looking forward to seeing the new content.

The Lacus Defender Zaku marks you as a man of impeccable Gundam taste
Your Scooter actually stands up! And the alt mode holds together by itself! JEALOUSY!!

Brilliant for Gobots to give children complex ideas of morality, truly the breaking bad for 5-10 year olds

I had this along with a handful of Go Bots when I was a kid. It was a fun toy at the time. And, yes, I loved the Cafeteria sticker too.
God i think this is peak content on RUclips
Wow Gav, 200 funny, fast paced, reviews. I’m VERY excited for Toy reviews done quick, let me tell you. And of course, episode 200 itself is an all timer
The noise it makes describes life in the 2020s
Yeah, the sticker work, ESPECIALLY the cafeteria, make that playset. I'd love backdrops for my bots with a fun-first vibe like that.

TRDQ fans: Oi boy! It’s the 200th episode! What transformer are you going to review Gavin?
Gavin: Fuck You, here’s some Gobots.
I'm in the TF camp but one thing Machine Men had over us was proper play sets with an _inside_ to put figures into. Standing toys on top of cityformers always seemed to be missing something.
Congrats on the 200th episode! Looking forward to the rebrand, sounds like fun!
Go ham on anything Gav!👍
Congrats on the 200th!
I always wondered what else was in your collection. I loved seeing it in places in the backround
Congrats on 200 videos you absolute legend!
A figure so good Gavin had to create a 2nd Gobots playlist just for it.
heck yes! i'd love to see some other things besides transformers. that pink gundam thing and gobots really peaked my interest

Pretty excited to see non-Transformers reviews (although I hated that Grune!). Good luck!
3:05 Great, somebody shut down the containment grid again. Somebody call Ectotron.
wow this is an item chock to the brim with sheer grim fear. The eyes, the noise, that face, all the, fuckin' torture chambers. Nightmarish
I had exactly 1 go-bot growing up - Trainbot - def wanna pick up the vintage & modern versions, loved that toy
I'm rather glad my younger self just focused on the funny cafeteria sticker and ignored the war crimes going on in the other rooms.
Now there’s a different type f nostalgia. Something I haven’t seen or thought of at all since the 80s
I think across the years I've only ever heard you kay into people that like gundam so obviously can't wait

Ah yes the V.M.T, the Vertical Mransport Todule.
I welcome more daft shite and other nostalgic toys. This video also has me wanting to go hunt down a gobots super couper.
Lol that lights and sounds feature is fantastic

Ah, the VMT: the Vertical Mransport Todule.
Don't be surprised by Scooter in the chair. There were plenty of Gobots with identity crisis in the show.
It says 'Robot De-Materializer'. As much as I remember, Go-Bots were cyborgs.
That new name! What a reveal!

Go-bots needs more love
Don’t worry, I’d enjoy the cafeteria too
Because every hero has a de-materializer

i'm one of the unaccounted fans of yours that really wants political commentary in your Go-Bots reviews specifically so this video was great
You have the High Grade Zaku Warrior Lacus Clyne version. I like you even more now.
I LOVE how borderline anti Geneva convention this thing is. reminds me of Bay movies Optimus Prime
Well since we won’t be needing him anymore, throw Repugnus in that Go-Bot dematerializer.
3:08 Jesus Fucking Murphy that's creepy AF!
And congrats on 200th episode keep up the good work Gav!
I don’t remember Go bots being this evil, for fuck sake the goodies make Megatron look like an upstanding member of society
I loved Gobots! I had the command center which was damn cool
I'd absolutely love to see you review He-Man stuff
Gavin, some how, I don't know how. Random kiddie friends I guess. These all strike my remembrance cortex. Cheers
That's a lad. Raise that lift.
-Boing- to 200!
You go, Bots!
GOBOTS! GOBOTS! GOBOTS! GOBOTS! GOBOTS! GOBOOOOOTS! (Yes, I am excited.)
wait wait wait wait
i'm not sure i'm ready for an acronym change
Yes!!!!! That my after work entertainment sorted!!!

SEVEN MINUTES??? Gettin' a bit big for our britches, aren't we?
Okay, which is the go bot that turns into an Iowa class battleship?
As a little kid mine didn't have the lights and sounds. After experiencing what they do i suspect my parent's removed them before christmas morning.
YYEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS!
I can name sort of every go bot i owned as a child.
