    This was helpful. I've seen the usual lists of technique problems and none of them have explained why my kicks barely get me across the pool... even the swim coaches are a little stumped. This has a few more things that I can look into.

      Glad to hear you liked the video! It’s definitely frustrating when the usual advice doesn’t do the trick, and I totally get that feeling when even coaches are scratching their heads.
      Sometimes it just takes finding those little details to unlock things.
      If you want some extra tips, I offer free help at Danswim.com/online-swim-school where we can dive into stuff like this together.
      Hopefully, I like can help you become a better swimmer!

    Thank you I will try this. I try to use the kick board and don't move anywhere. I am learning to swim at age 51. I can swim freestyle with the snorkel. I don't have the breathing thing down yet. But my propulsion is coming from arms and shoulders feeling it after a swim. I will focus on these drills my next swim.

    • @danswimnyc
      @danswimnyc  8 месяцев назад +1

      Focus on moving your legs just enough to keep them afloat! That is normal and you should get the most of propulsion of your strokes

      😅😅😅
      Remember there were finger boards, and if you weren’t good enough to skateboard 🛹 you were finger boarding…
      Maybe you can try to splash 💦 the water with your finger kicks 😬
      To be serious though, it’s pretty hard to substitute water with the dry-land exercises.

  • @Its.Just.Sam.M
    @Its.Just.Sam.M 7 месяцев назад +1

    4:34 I have a dense body composition with a low bf%. I find that when I kick slower, my legs begin to sink. Actually, I sink when I do anything slower. (My legs even sink with a pull buoy).
    When i try to stroke or kick slower during freestyle, I struggle to stay along the surface of the water. When i turn to breathe, I eventually breathe in water due to gradually sinking after about 3 breath cycles.
    I noticed that my kick pauses when i breathe, and my body position lowers quickly in the water, and I struggle to regain a balanced position.
    Any tips for breaking past this learning point?
    P.S. thank you so much for these videos. I never learned to properly swim in my adolescence, aside from one summer of lessons in middle school. I've decided to take on the endeavor this summer, and have been making progress through one 8-session course. However, I'm back on my own and want to keep improving. Your videos have really helped me in this journey!

    • @danswimnyc
      @danswimnyc  7 месяцев назад +1

      Heavy muscles and dense bones might be one of the reasons. May be your joints are way too locked and you’re not kicking in both directions up and down. Make sure your ankles are relaxed and pointed down.
      Pay attention to both keeping phases push the water up and down while having your ankle and knee joints relaxed.
      I’m launching a community where We would be able to exchange ideas and fix mistakes, you would be able to ask the question directly from me and the team of my Swim Instructor.
      Would you be interested in that?

    Sir,Any Tips to kick from hips rather the Knees ?
    I'm learning how to swim, but my flutter kick is always from the knees, and not the hips. It feels like I'm kicking from the hips, but when I had someone take a video, it was all knee.

      There might be multiple reasons. Most likely your legs are too tight, you might be Initiating kicks from you knees, toes might be pointed down.

    • @danswimnyc
      @danswimnyc  7 месяцев назад

      Think of your kicks as of ongoing engine that should run all the time. There are various kicking techniques. Two kicks per stroke, 4, 6
      4 and 6 kicks per stroke used in sprint, which you don’t need.
      So instead, focus on slow but consistent legs kicking. Make sure your kicks are rhythmical and not to hard
